Starting in August, Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)willlower its cutfrom independent games sold through its online store from 30% to12%.

The move could increase Microsoft's appeal among indie computer game companies, who face a roughly 30% fee through Valve's Steam shop and a 12% cut at Epic Games' online storefront.

The fees that tech giants collect from developers has increased regulatory scrutiny of the app stores of Apple and Google. Apple's App Store policies and 30% cut are at the center of a legal battle with Epic, which will go to trialearly next month.

Microsoft shares are currentlydown 1.3. Yesterday, a federal judge rejected motions from the Department of Defense and Microsoft to throw out Amazon's challenges to the$10B JEDI cloud contract.
