Norwegian Cruise Line to sail 75% of ships by January, 100% by April

Seeking Alpha2021-10-06
  • Norwegian Cruise Line (NYSE:NCLH) will begin sailing its full fleet of 28 ships by April 1 of next year, said CEO Frank Del Rio on CNBC. 75% of the company's cruise ships are expected to return to normal operations by the end of the year.
  • Eight of Norwegian's vessels are currently sailing and travelers are required to be fully vaccinated before boarding. Unvaccinated children not yet eligible for the shot are barred from the cruises. Del Rio believes that the mandate is a "competitive advantage" for the company despite the possibility missing out on customers.
  • The CEO hopes that more people get vaccinated to bring the pandemic to a close. “If anything, the world is opening up, more people are getting vaccinated,” said Del Rio. “Pent up demand continues to be very, very strong for the sailings we’ve operated thus far.”
