Could easily be flattening out/digesting as we do after a run to fresh records, a phase that has lately coincided with earnings season.\n\n\n\nMicrosoftis something to watch on this score. More important, I think, thanAAPLin terms of broad ownership as a consensus core position and non-cyclical steward of capital. When the stock has pulled back this year after a sprint higher, it’s coincided with a plateauing of the S&P for a few weeks.\n\n\n\nMuch fuss over pronounced weakness in small-caps, theRussell 2000dead money for five months and now 7% off its peak. Definitely a reflation/risk-appetite “tell” but not particularly useful as a broad-market bellwether. Sometimes the Russell peaks with large caps. Sometimes poor Russell performance leads to an S&P 500 pullback. Other times small caps go nowhere for literally years while the S&P plows higher. All else equal, bulls would prefer smalls lead and the rally stays broad, but not crucial. Also, Russell still outperforming S&P 500 by 13 percentage points over the past 12 months.\n\n\nPowell succeeded in changing very little about the monetary debate over two days of Q&A. He granted the discussion over tapering will be a constant, but preserved flexibility on timing. Powell also says we haven’t yet seen “substantial further progress” on key economic goals measured against December conditions (the Fed’s standard).\n\n\nTreasury yields back toward 1.3% on the10-yeardefinitely seem to be pricing in slightly higher odds of possible “mistake” of premature tightening muting longer-term growth and inflation, but yields remain off the lows so the alarms aren’t sounding. Jobless claims and regional Fed surveys decent, macro picture OK, even as Atlanta Fed GDP real-time second-quarter forecast is down to 7.9% from over 10% a month ago.\n\n\nSentiment has moderated somewhat. AAII retail bulls pulled back. Tactical traders are in “high-neutral” exposure levels via NAAIM. Meme stocks are looking wounded, and put-buying has picked up. Better than seeing unceasing optimism.\n\n\nAs noted, market breadth leans to the negative side, equal-weight Russell 1000 off 2% this week. VIX modestly higher as mega-caps ease back, may be a floor developing as the S&P stalls and everyone knows we now enter a seasonally dodgy period for stocks.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":357,"commentLimit":10,"likeStatus":false,"favoriteStatus":false,"reportStatus":false,"symbols":[],"verified":2,"subType":0,"readableState":1,"langContent":"EN","currentLanguage":"EN","warmUpFlag":false,"orderFlag":false,"shareable":true,"causeOfNotShareable":"","featuresForAnalytics":[],"commentAndTweetFlag":false,"andRepostAutoSelectedFlag":false,"upFlag":false,"length":4,"xxTargetLangEnum":"ORIG"},"commentList":[],"isCommentEnd":true,"isTiger":false,"isWeiXinMini":false,"url":"/m/post/170902995"}
