Nvidia (NVDA) is set to release its earnings on February 26th, and all eyes are on the semiconductor giant. The U.S. stock market recently declined following disappointing Michigan consumer sentiment data, which indicated that inflation expectations remain elevated. With the market hovering near a double-top high, Nvidia’s earnings could play a crucial role in shaping the next major move.
Too Much Hype Around Nvidia?
Personally, I think there's an excessive focus on Nvidia while many other stocks are being overlooked. Nvidia has been a market darling, driving much of the AI and semiconductor rally, but at current valuations, the stock seems overhyped. If Nvidia beats earnings, it could trigger a positive ripple effect across the market, lifting other tech and AI-related stocks. However, at this point, Nvidia's performance doesn't interest me much.
Stock Performance & Valuation Concerns
Last week, Nvidia closed at $134.43, with a 52-week range of $75.61 to $153.13. While it has delivered incredible returns, I personally find the stock overvalued. Even if it surges after earnings, I’m unlikely to change my stance. The valuation seems stretched, and unless it doubles from here, it won't grab my attention. Even in that scenario, I’d still be hesitant to buy.

Will Nvidia’s Earnings Impact the Market?
If Nvidia delivers strong results, it could temporarily boost sentiment, potentially pushing indices higher. However, given the broader macroeconomic concerns, including persistent inflation and the Federal Reserve’s stance on interest rates, a single earnings report may not be enough.
On the flip side, if Nvidia disappoints, it could trigger a sharp selloff in tech stocks, further dragging down the market. Given its massive weight in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, weak earnings could signal broader concerns about the AI-driven growth narrative.
Final Thoughts
While Nvidia’s earnings will be a major event, I remain skeptical about its long-term valuation. The hype around AI and semiconductors is undeniable, but it’s important to look beyond just one stock. Personally, I’m focusing on other opportunities rather than chasing Nvidia at these levels.
