In early 2020, the companies said they are shelving the plans for a Lincoln-branded EV but would go ahead with an alternative vehicle based on Rivian technology.\nThe Ford CEO suggested in the interview that the company is now increasingly confident in competing in the EV space by itself. Another handicap that forced the going-solo decision was the complexities involved in integrating the hardware and software together.\nWhy It's Important:Rivian shares debuted on Wall Street on Nov. 10 following aninitial public offeringat a bumper valuation of over $100 billion. The company's strong debut and the subsequent run up in shares have raised eyebrows over its valuation which has taken it past the market capitalization of legacy U.S. automakers, including Ford.\nRivian's product pipeline consists of RIT, an EV pickup truck, which it began delivering to customers in September. As of Oct. 30, the company produced 180 R1Ts and delivered 156 R1Ts, with the bulk of them going to the company's employees.\nThe company noted that at the end of October, it had preorders of about 55,400 R1Ts and R1Ss. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.\nFord, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.\n\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.\nRivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.\n\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.\nRivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"F":0.9,"RIVN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2193,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":878421367,"gmtCreate":1637223723540,"gmtModify":1637223723996,"author":{"id":"3555014251535651","authorId":"3555014251535651","name":"Dollarvan","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0316ab12b442ee2cd79936de06de5089","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3555014251535651","idStr":"3555014251535651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/878421367","repostId":"1176032461","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1176032461","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1637223589,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1176032461?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-18 16:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Rivian Could Be the Next Tesla — But Don’t Pay More than $100 Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1176032461","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"RIVN stock has gotten ahead of itself early in its life as a public company","content":"
\n
Sometimes a stock can really get a jump when it first launches into the public markets. As an example,Rivian(NASDAQ:RIVN) went public on Nov. 9. So far since that date, RIVN stock is up 47%.\nThe incredible thing about the Rivian gains is that Ford’s(NYSE:F)12% stake is valued at around $15 billion based on Wednesday afternoon’s market capitalization of around $130 billion.Amazon’s(NASDAQ:AMZN) 20% stake is worth $28.6 billion based on that same market cap.\nFord paid $820 million for its equity position, which has it sitting on a 1,729% gain over three years. This represents 19% of Ford’s $78 billion market cap. If you’re a Ford shareholder, you have to be ecstatic. If you’re Bill Ford or CEO Jim Farley, you’re over the moon.\nWhat happens next from both Ford and Amazon will be interesting to see. Unfortunately, neither company will be too eager to fork over the $88 billion required to buy the electric vehicle start-up.\nFor now, it seems that both will continue to maintain their Rivian stakes as strategic minority investments rather than pursue outright majority control. But that’s assuming the jump in price is justified. So I’ll consider both sides of the argument.\nRIVN Stock Gains Are Justified\nRivian CEO RJ Scaringe recently said that he expects the company to be producing one million vehicles annually by 2030 from as many as four assembly plants around the world. The vehicles produced from those plants include its R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and Amazon’s electric commercial van.\nIts current plant in Illinois has an annual capacity of 150,000. It can up that capacity by 33% to 200,000 and plans to do so by 2023. Its second factory will also be in the U.S., followed by plants in Europe and China.\nSo, let’s assume that it gets to one million vehicles by 2030. What kind of valuation should it have at that point?\nWell, Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) sold its one-millionth vehicle in March 2020, just 17 years after the company was founded. This happened at the same time as its Model Y launch, its fourth electric vehicle that’s available for sale.\nIn 2020, the company produced and delivered 509,737 and 499,550 vehicles, respectively. In 2021, it’s on track to deliver one million vehicles annually.\nThrough the third quarter, it delivered 627,350 vehicles. In Q4 2020, it delivered 180,667 vehicles. In Q3 2021, it had 20% sequential growth to241,391 vehicles. Assuming 20% sequential growth in Q4 2021, that’s 289,669 vehicles for a total of 917,019. So it’s conceivable it could hit the million-mark with a solid final quarter of fiscal 2021.\nTesla’s market cap is $1.01 trillion despite the 10% decline in the past week due to Elon Musk’s stock sales. Based on one million vehicles, the market cap works out to $1.02 million per delivered car.\nToday, Rivian is valued at nearly $111 billion. To get to $1 trillion, it would require RIVN stock to grow 27.7% compounded annually over the next nine years. Tesla’s stock over the past 10 years has appreciated by 65.4% on an annualized basis.\nBased on this history, I’d say Rivian can get to $1 trillion by the end of 2030 if it hits delivery marks.\nIt’s Got No Revenue\nBloomberg recently stated that Rivian is the largest U.S. company by market cap without any sales to show for it. That’s some trick. It’s knocked Lucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID), another EV start-up, off the mantle.\n“[It’s] seriously mind boggling when it hasn’t even earned any discernible revenue yet,”Bloombergreporter Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets, stated about Rivian’s valuation.\nSpeaking of valuations, Rivian has the fourth-highest market cap of the major automotive manufacturers behind only Volkswagen(OTCMKTS:VWAGY),Toyota Motor(NYSE:TM), and Tesla. Those three company’s trade at 0.5x,0.9x, and 25.6x sales, respectively.\nSo, assuming a similar multiple to Tesla, it ought to have $4.8 billion in revenue. It has none. That suggests valuations have gotten excessive.\n“Despite the popularity of the electric vehicle market and huge gains in Tesla’s stock, we think investors should avoid the temptation to buy Rivian shares,”investment research firm New Constructs said about Rivian before its initial public offering (IPO) in aCBCarticle.\nNew Constructs went on to say it’s ridiculous to pay such a high price for a company’s stock that has yet to prove it can consistently produce and deliver vehicles.\nThe Bottom Line for RIVN Stock\nWhile it’s easy to get excited about another U.S. EV company coming to market, I do think that the cart has gotten ahead of the horse in this situation. I could see its shares dropping under $100 before the end of the year. It will trade under the symbol ZIP.

ZipRecruiter itself is not selling shares with the offering and will not receive proceeds from the direct listing. Instead, its shareholders will offer up to 86,598,896 shares of Class A common stock for resale, according to the document.

ZipRecruiter will be the third company this year to use a direct listing to go public:Coinbase(ticker: COIN), a cryptocurrency exchange, used the method to list its shares in April on the Nasdaq, after the gaming platform Roblox(RBLX) did so for its March debut on the NYSE. (Squarespace, a website design company, has also filed to go public via a direct listing on the NYSE, but has yet to set a trading date.)

Companies mainly use direct listings because they’re cheaper than traditional IPOs and allow shareholders to sell their stock to the public without intermediaries. In a traditional IPO, a company sells shares and uses an investment bank or banks to underwrite the deals. But in a direct listing, a bank or banks typically work as financial advisors for the company going public.

ZipRecruiter has lined up six investment banks—Goldman Sachs(GS),JPMorgan Chase(JPM), Barclays Capital,Evercore Group(EVR), William Blair and Raymond James—to advise on the upcoming offering. However, only Goldman and JPMorgan Chase will consult with a designated market maker to set ZipRecruiter’s opening price.

Direct listings typically do not include lockups, which prevent shareholders from selling for a certain period of time. ZipRecruiter stockholders, similarly, will be able to selltheir shares as soon as the company lists later this month.

In a traditional IPO, a company will have a roadshow where the management team makes presentations to institutional investors to create interest in the stock. Direct listings have replaced the roadshow with the investor day, when investors typically learn about a company going public via a webcast meeting. ZipRecruiter is hosting its investor day on May 10.

Founded in 2010, ZipRecruiter is an employment marketplace for people looking for work and businesses seeking employees. More than 2.8 million businesses have used ZipRecruiter to find an employee while 110 million jobseekers have sought employment on the site, the filing said. The company became profitable in 2020, reporting $86 million in income from $6.3 million in losses in 2019. Revenue droppednearly 3% to $418 million in 2020, the prospectus said.

ZipRecruiter has raised $219 million in funding, according to Crunchbase. This includes a $156 million round in 2018 co-led by Wellington Management Company and Institutional Venture Partners, or IVP. IVP owns the biggest chunk of ZipRecruiter’s voting power—21.1%.

Several shareholders have registered their class A common stock, which they may or may not sell via the direct listing, the prospectus said. It will trade under the symbol ZIP.ZipRecruiter itself is not selling shares with the offering and will not receive proceeds from the direct listing. Instead, its shareholders will offer up to 86,598,896 shares of Class A common stock for resale, according to the document.ZipRecruiter will be the third company this year to use a direct listing to go public:Coinbase(ticker: COIN), a cryptocurrency exchange, used the method to list its shares in April on the Nasdaq, after the gaming platform Roblox(RBLX) did so for its March debut on the NYSE. (Squarespace, a website design company, has also filed to go public via a direct listing on the NYSE, but has yet to set a trading date.)Companies mainly use direct listings because they’re cheaper than traditional IPOs and allow shareholders to sell their stock to the public without intermediaries. In a traditional IPO, a company sells shares and uses an investment bank or banks to underwrite the deals. But in a direct listing, a bank or banks typically work as financial advisors for the company going public.ZipRecruiter has lined up six investment banks—Goldman Sachs(GS),JPMorgan Chase(JPM), Barclays Capital,Evercore Group(EVR), William Blair and Raymond James—to advise on the upcoming offering. However, only Goldman and JPMorgan Chase will consult with a designated market maker to set ZipRecruiter’s opening price.Direct listings typically do not include lockups, which prevent shareholders from selling for a certain period of time. ZipRecruiter is hosting its investor day on May 10.Founded in 2010, ZipRecruiter is an employment marketplace for people looking for work and businesses seeking employees. More than 2.8 million businesses have used ZipRecruiter to find an employee while 110 million jobseekers have sought employment on the site, the filing said. The company became profitable in 2020, reporting $86 million in income from $6.3 million in losses in 2019. Revenue droppednearly 3% to $418 million in 2020, the prospectus said.ZipRecruiter has raised $219 million in funding, according to Crunchbase. This includes a $156 million round in 2018 co-led by Wellington Management Company and Institutional Venture Partners, or IVP. IVP owns the biggest chunk of ZipRecruiter’s voting power—21.1%.Several shareholders have registered their class A common stock, which they may or may not sell via the direct listing, the prospectus said. IVP has registered about 22.7 million Class A shares, while Wellington is offering roughly 1.9 million shares. The index fell by more than 4.5% in September for its first monthly decline since January, with concerns around fiscal and monetary policy, inflation, regulations in China and the ongoing pandemic all colliding to knock equities from their upward trajectory. Still, the S&P 500 remained up by about 15% for the year-to-date through Thursday's close.
\n
Cyclical stocks, though down during Thursday's session, led the way higher in September as investors bet on higher inflation and rising rates. A jump in crude oil prices helped make the energy sector by far the best performer in the S&P 500. When the year started, shares initially surged more than 20%. But the stock has now given up all of those gains, with a year-to-date return of negative 1%. This means the stock has significantly underperformed the S&P 500's 18% gain this year.
\n
But one analyst thinks the stock could take off.
\n
\"We still really like this stock.\"
\n
In February,Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Pottermade a bold call, boosting his 12-month price target for thegrowth stockfrom $515 to $1,200. He said Tesla deliveries could increase from 500,000 vehicles in 2020 to nearly 900,000 this year. Of course, this projection was made before global supply shortages worsened. Nevertheless, Tesla is growing extremely rapidly. The company's second-quarter deliveries more than doubled compared to the year-ago quarter, rising to 201,304.
\n
Following Tesla's second-quarter earnings release late last month, the analyst reiterated this target, noting that the company looks poised to benefit from market share gains, the monetization of the company's Autopilot software, and \"underappreciated opportunities\" in Tesla's energy business, which includes revenue from battery energy storage and solar energy generation products.
\n
Further, Potter pointed to Tesla's strong second-quarter operating margin of 11%, which he expects will see incremental improvement from Tesla's recently launched Autopilot subscription.
\n
On Aug. 3, Potter once again reiterated an overweight rating on the stock and a $1,200 price target, saying \"We still really like this stock.\" He pointed to growing demand for battery electric vehicles overall.
\n
So what gives?
\n
If shares could truly rise to $1,200, why do so many investors seem to think the stock is worth so much less (based on the stock's price of just under $700 at the time of this writing). After all, if $1,200 was generally viewed by investors as a likely outcome for Tesla stock within the next 12 months, shares would be trading significantly higher today.
\n
The issue boils down to the stock's forward-looking valuation. With a price-to-earnings ratio of about 370 at the time of this writing, Tesla shares are largely priced for strong growth for years to come. Since the company's valuation is based largely on profits far into the future, slight variances in views for Tesla's future growth trajectory yield dramatically different assumptions about the stock's intrinsic value today.
\n
Investors, therefore, shouldn't be quick to buy Tesla stock just because one analyst has a high price target for shares. Still, Potter does notably have some good points about Tesla's strong business momentum. Even Tesla itself reiterated guidance for vehicle deliveries to grow more than 50% this year -- and that guidance was provided during a time that many companies around the world (including Tesla) are negatively impacted by supply chain shortages. Further, Tesla management noted in its second-quarter update that demand for its vehicles was at an all-time high going into Q3.
\n
While a $1,200 price target for Tesla stock would be difficult to justify, shares may be trading low enough for investors to start a small position in the stock.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Stock: Headed to $1,200?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Stock: Headed to $1,200?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-08 09:13 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Key Points\n\nTesla deliveries more than doubled year over year in Q2.\nRising demand for electric vehicles could benefit Tesla.\nInvestors should exercise caution when it comes to analysts' price targets...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/07/tesla-stock-headed-to-1200/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1159872041","content_text":"Key Points\n\nTesla deliveries more than doubled year over year in Q2.\nRising demand for electric vehicles could benefit Tesla.\nInvestors should exercise caution when it comes to analysts' price targets.\n\nIt's been a wild year for Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)stock.
