Not really. Over a long enough timeframe, entering a position in the fintech company’s shares right now could end up being a highly profitable move.
\n
Assuming of course, that it becomes the nextPayPal(NASDAQ:PYPL) orSquare(NYSE:SQ). Even so, that doesn’t mean there’s an urgent need to rush out and buy it today. More likely than not, the stock will deliver underwhelming returns in the months ahead.
\n
Why? The negative factors that have been weighing down on growth stocks. First, the risk that a hike in interest rates will result in avaluation contraction for richly priced namessuch as this one. Second, slowing economic growth could be another risk for shares. If today’s booming economy takes a breather, it may be tough for SoFi to deliver the blockbuster quarterly results investors expect from it.
\n
With the possibility of it languishing at $15 per share. Or worse yet, falling to $10 per share or less, the best move hasn’t changed in the past month. If you’re still bullish on it? Take your time when it comes to entering a position.
\n
SOFI Stock and Possible Further Downside
\n
After itsJune 1 deSPACing, SoFi shares seemed primed to make a comeback. Not only that, it seemed like the reputation of Chamath Palihapitiya, the sponsor of this former SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) was making a comeback as well.
\n
Yet, flash-forward around two months, and it seems like things are getting to where they were after last spring’s“SPAC Wipeout.”Investors haven’t shown much interest in Palihapitiya’slatest SPAC venture has been met with a yawn. Shares in his higher-profile holdings, like SOFI stock, along withClover Health(NASDAQ:CLOV) stock have again lost their luster as well.
\n
SoFi has fallen back once again. But don’t assume it’s bottomed out. Not as much to do with any issues with the company itself. Instead, due to economy-wide factors that may result in it making another move to lower price levels. Not really. Over a long enough timeframe, entering a position in the fintech company’s shares right now could end up being a highly profitable move.\nAssuming of course, that it becomes the nextPayPal(NASDAQ:PYPL) orSquare(NYSE:SQ). Even so, that doesn’t mean there’s an urgent need to rush out and buy it today. More likely than not, the stock will deliver underwhelming returns in the months ahead.\nWhy? The negative factors that have been weighing down on growth stocks. First, the risk that a hike in interest rates will result in avaluation contraction for richly priced namessuch as this one. Second, slowing economic growth could be another risk for shares. If today’s booming economy takes a breather, it may be tough for SoFi to deliver the blockbuster quarterly results investors expect from it.\nWith the possibility of it languishing at $15 per share. Or worse yet, falling to $10 per share or less, the best move hasn’t changed in the past month. If you’re still bullish on it? Take your time when it comes to entering a position.\nSOFI Stock and Possible Further Downside\nAfter itsJune 1 deSPACing, SoFi shares seemed primed to make a comeback. Not only that, it seemed like the reputation of Chamath Palihapitiya, the sponsor of this former SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) was making a comeback as well.\nYet, flash-forward around two months, and it seems like things are getting to where they were after last spring’s“SPAC Wipeout.”Investors haven’t shown much interest in Palihapitiya’slatest SPAC venture has been met with a yawn. Photographer: Gilles Sabrie/Bloomberg\nMSCI Inc.’s decision to start tracking internet giants JD.com Inc. and NetEase Inc. via their Hong Kong shares rather than American Depositary Receipts may reinforce a gradual shift in liquidity away from the U.S. for Chinese stocks.\nThe move comes amid heightened tension between the U.S. and China over listing rules that is seeing some firms favor security at home over the allure of Wall Street.\nInvestors and analysts say there is also potential for the developments to encourage other companies to bring a greater proportion of their float to Hong Kong, eventually qualifying them for the Stock Connect program with mainland markets.\nThe change from MSCI takes affect on Dec. 2 and follows a similar move earlier this year to track Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. via its Hong Kong shares rather than its ADRs. Of the more than 40 Chinese ADRs tracked by MSCI, there are about a dozen with shares in Hong Kong that could see a similar switch in the future.\nWhile the change isn’t expected to have any significant impact on the share price of JD.com or NetEase in the short term, it is likely to see passive funds that follow MSCI migrate their holdings from ADRs to shares in Hong Kong, if the experience with Alibaba is any guide. Also aiding JD and NetEase’s passive inflows is Hang Seng Indexes Co.’s announcement to add the two companies to the city’s benchmark Hang Seng Index effective on Dec. 6.\n\nAsset managers including BlackRock Inc., T Rowe Price Group Inc., UBS Group AG and State Street Corp. rushed to shift holdings in Alibaba into Hong Kong stock in May, U.S. and Hong Kong exchange filings show.
But don’t assume it’s bottomed out. Not as much to do with any issues with the company itself. Instead, due to economy-wide factors that may result in it making another move to lower price levels. Yet I don’t expect this factor alone to be what knocks it down to lower prices.
\n
What will? Again, it’s a sooner-than-expected rise in interest rates that could send shares down to even lower prices. But that’s not the only thing that could do so. Even if the Federal Reserve doesn’t turn on a dime, and shift from dovish to hawkish monetary policy, SOFI stock could find itself in trouble. How? Yet, the above-average economic growth seen during the pandemic recovery/reopeningcould be running out of gas. If the economy starts to slow?
