report showed an","content":"
Stocks rose at the open and the S&P 500 hit another record high after the June jobs report showed an accelerating recovery for the U.S. labor market.
\n
The broad market index rose 0.3%, while the tech heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.4% to hit its own intraday all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added about 56 points.
\n

\n
The economy added 850,000 jobs last month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones were expecting an addition of 706,000. The print topped the 559,000 jobs created in May.
\n
The unemployment rate did come in at 5.9%, higher than expected.
\n
\"This is a strong report and should be taken as a sign of things to come for an accelerating labor market,\" Aberdeen Standard Investments deputy chief economist James McCann said in a note.
\n
“Today’s data won’t change the Fed’s view. An acceleration in the labor market like the one signaled in this report is exactly what they were anticipating,” McCann added. “The pick-up in hiring should tell the central bank that firms are having more success finding workers, which will ease concerns about a more protracted period of increasing wages. How far can it go from here?
\n
Nvidia shares have finally been giving bulls something to cheer about as the stock scorches higher.
\n
Just like most of big tech, Nvidia topped in early September, hitting roughly $588 a share. We’ve had spurts above that level, but none of the rallies have been sustainable.
\n
That’s despite a shortage in semiconductors keeping demand elevated. It’s also despite the crypto-mining market keeping demand high for mining-specific chips.
\n
Even with strong earnings and an impressive GTC event (where management again updated its guidance above consensus expectations), Nvidia stock couldn’t get moving.
\n
Others like Apple and Amazon have been experiencing the same thing - strong operations and better-than-expected results but a stagnant share price.
\n
For Nvidia though, shares finally broke out after the company’s most recent earnings report. Now investors are trying to figure out just how far this stock can run.
\n
Trading Nvidia
\n
Daily chart of Nvidia stock.
\n
Shares stumbled for a day after the company reported earnings in mid-May. Growth stocks were still in a bear market and investors weren’t sure if they should buy Nvidia despite strong results.
\n
It took a day to figure out, but then they started to gobble up the stock.
\n
However, with sustained growth acting as a tailwind and a 4-for-1 stock split coming on July 20, buyers may continue to bid this name higher. That’s what we saw near the end of summer last year with Apple and Tesla.
\n
In any regard, the rally here has been steep and while Nvidia stock has rested for a few days at a time, it still has not tested 10-day moving average in almost a month.
\n
As it stands now, shares are hitting the 161.8% extension areas from both the larger and shorter ranges from 2021. How far can it go from here?\nNvidia shares have finally been giving bulls something to cheer about as the stock scorches higher.\nJust like most of big tech, Nvidia topped in early September, hitting roughly $588 a share. We’ve had spurts above that level, but none of the rallies have been sustainable.\nThat’s despite a shortage in semiconductors keeping demand elevated. It’s also despite the crypto-mining market keeping demand high for mining-specific chips.\nEven with strong earnings and an impressive GTC event (where management again updated its guidance above consensus expectations), Nvidia stock couldn’t get moving.\nOthers like Apple and Amazon have been experiencing the same thing - strong operations and better-than-expected results but a stagnant share price.\nFor Nvidia though, shares finally broke out after the company’s most recent earnings report. Now investors are trying to figure out just how far this stock can run.\nTrading Nvidia\nDaily chart of Nvidia stock.\nShares stumbled for a day after the company reported earnings in mid-May. Growth stocks were still in a bear market and investors weren’t sure if they should buy Nvidia despite strong results.\nIt took a day to figure out, but then they started to gobble up the stock.\nHowever, with sustained growth acting as a tailwind and a 4-for-1 stock split coming on July 20, buyers may continue to bid this name higher. That’s what we saw near the end of summer last year with Apple and Tesla.\nIn any regard, the rally here has been steep and while Nvidia stock has rested for a few days at a time, it still has not tested 10-day moving average in almost a month.\nAs it stands now, shares are hitting the 161.8% extension areas from both the larger and shorter ranges from 2021. Additionally, there is a bit of divergence on the Williams %R reading.\nThese observations have me a bit cautious on the stock in the short term, but not in a bearish way. Rather, it leaves me mindful of some potential consolidation, which to be honest, would be healthy after such a big rally.\nThat said, I am bullish on Nvidia. If this stock can maintain the 10-day moving average and hang around $700, it opens the door for higher prices. Specifically, it keeps $750 to $766 on the table, the latter of which comes into play around the two-times range extension.\nAt $750 post-split, Nvidia would be trading at $187.50. That could leave room up to $200 in a post-split world or $800 in pre-split world.\nFor long-term investors or traders, the 261.8% extension up near $860 seems impossibly far off, but if Nvidia can continue to trend higher, I wouldn’t rule this target out in the future.\nOn a close below $690 and the 10-day moving average, we could get a retest of the $650 breakout level and/or the 21-day moving average.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":340,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":138317558,"gmtCreate":1621909961074,"gmtModify":1634185571726,"author":{"id":"3564620605022995","authorId":"3564620605022995","name":"韭菜狗","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a3787c355e8f6dbf9fd978669006e71a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564620605022995","authorIdStr":"3564620605022995"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment That’s the basic question for which investors are seeking an answer.
\n
For investors who want to establish a position in Tilray now, they’ll be making a bet that its U.S. consumer packaged goods (CPG) efforts will bear returns. The company will introduce its brands through craft beers and other beverages to increase awareness. The company also plans to expand its presence in CBD and other cannabinoids.
\n
Let’s start by tackling how long it will take for the merger to really shake out. When can investors expect to be able to accurately judge whether the deal has provided value?
\n
Time Will Tell
\n
The old maxim serves no utility for investors. But it’s a relevant answer to how long investors should anticipate waiting to understand the true ramifications of the merger.
\n
One figure to look at is Tilray’s projection that within 24 months of the late April merger it will achieve 100 million CAD ($82.4 million) in pre-tax cost savings. Therefore, we can reasonably anticipate that the company believes Aphria and Tilray’s disparate operations will be fully integrated by that time.
\n
It’s probably more accurate that I say Tilray believes that in 24 months the two will be fully integrated and reflective of post-merger value.
\n
In any case, it’ll be easy to make a quantitative-based judgment call at that time.
\n
All we’ll have to do then is take a dive into the financials in a year and half from now, and fish out that pre-tax cost savings figure. If it exceeds 100 million CAD, that should indicate that the merger has proven accretive. If not, the opposite should be true. Expect markets to respond in kind whatever happens.
\n
Markets Are Hesitant Now
\n
A brief glance at the price chart of Tilray over the past three years tells a broad narrative about the market and cannabis stocks. Tilray became publicly traded in July 2018. Shares traded for about twice their current value then. Within two months share prices reached $214.
\n
Eleven months later TLRY stock was down to its IPO price. Prices were flat and trending down for the next year and a half. Then, viola! Prices spiked to $64 in February of this year.
\n
Investment in Tilray is not for the faint of heart, and that goes for the broader cannabis industry as well. For Tilray to truly thrive its CPG presence in the U.S. will be vital.
\n
Tilray’s CPG Strategy
\n
Tilray’s investor presentation for the Aphria merger indicated how the merged company will approach the U.S. market. The company is relying on two strategic pillars: branded cannabis lifestyle, and a hemp and wellness platform.
\n
Along those lines, Tilray acquired Atlanta-based Sweetwater Brewing for $300 million. Tilray is using the beer company’s distribution network to build awareness of its own products. Tilray’s Manitoba Harvest brand has access to 17,000 North American retail stores which will bring more awareness of Aphria products.
\n
Tilray also has a joint venture with Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD), giving its CPG business another base for potential success. The business, called Fluent, has yet to provide much to the company though.
\n
Tilray’s latest 10-Q sheds light on that fact. In the first quarter of 2020, Tilray realized a net loss of $3.496 million from Fluent (and Cannafections – its other JV).
\n
In the same period in 2021, the two 50% owned JVs saw a net loss of $3.574 million. Basically, they were stagnant at a high level.
\n
The Bottom Line on TLRY Stock
\n
Tilray remains essentially the same as it was prior to the merger: A company with lots of promise, but little to interest investors right now. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance. On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago, raising $587 million. The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this. The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far. Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":50,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":131347144,"gmtCreate":1621831094888,"gmtModify":1634186244916,"author":{"id":"3564620605022995","authorId":"3564620605022995","name":"韭菜狗","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a3787c355e8f6dbf9fd978669006e71a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564620605022995","authorIdStr":"3564620605022995"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment like","listText":"Comment like","text":"Comment like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/131347144","repostId":"1101357540","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":119,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":198627817,"gmtCreate":1620956894439,"gmtModify":1634194978291,"author":{"id":"3564620605022995","authorId":"3564620605022995","name":"韭菜狗","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a3787c355e8f6dbf9fd978669006e71a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564620605022995","authorIdStr":"3564620605022995"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like comment","listText":"Like comment","text":"Like comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/198627817","repostId":"2135945620","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":164,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":113943298,"gmtCreate":1622592147814,"gmtModify":1631892077379,"author":{"id":"3564620605022995","authorId":"3564620605022995","name":"韭菜狗","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a3787c355e8f6dbf9fd978669006e71a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564620605022995","authorIdStr":"3564620605022995"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment like ","listText":"Comment like ","text":"Comment like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/113943298","repostId":"1184181912","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184181912","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1622589761,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1184181912?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-02 07:22","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Zoom reports blowout earnings but warns of a coming slowdown","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184181912","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Zoomreported better-than-expected first-quarter results Tuesday, with sales growth of 191%.
