Krispy Kreme, which also owns Insomnia Cookies, is trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker \"DNUT.\"\nThe chain first went public 21 years ago during the dot-com bubble. In 2016, JAB Holding, the investment arm of the Reimann family, took Krispy Kreme private after buying it for $1.35 billion. JAB owns a number of other restaurant businesses, including Panera Bread and Caribou Coffee.\n\"The transformation that this company has done in the last five years has been incredible,\" Krispy Kreme CEO Mike Tattersfield said on CNBC's\"Squawk Box\"on Thursday. \"We've worked on our brand, we've worked on the culture.\"\nIn fiscal 2020, Krispy Kreme's revenue rose 17% to $1.12 billion, but the chain reported a net loss of $60.9 million. It has reported net losses for its last three fiscal years as it invests back into the business, such as spending $10.3 million to reopen a 24-hour flagship location in New York City's Times Square and buying back many of its franchised locations. Now, about 85% of its locations are company-owned.\nKrispy Kreme's start to trading comes during the busiest week so far in 2021 for U.S. IPOs, with at least 16 other companies making their public debuts.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":922,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":156068795,"gmtCreate":1625186656917,"gmtModify":1631891118472,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"That’s the reason Tesla price drop!! It also doesn’t work well as a currency, he told CNBC on Thursday.\nOne interesting aspect is that other cryptocurrencies have come up with solutions to address some of bitcoin’s flaws, said Prasad, who was formerly head of the International Monetary Fund’s China division.\n1. Mining harms the environment\nBitcoin mining refers to the energy-intensive process required to produce new coins and ensure the payment network is secure and verified.\nThe electricity used when transactions are validated on the bitcoin blockchain, as well as the mining process, is “certainly not good for the environment,” Prasad said.\nTesla CEO Elon Musk said last month that his electric car company will stop accepting bitcoin as a form of payment because of environmental concerns, causing the price of bitcoin to drop 5% in a matter of minutes.\nHe has since made an about-turn and said in a tweet on Sunday that Tesla will accept bitcoin in transactions if it can confirm “reasonable” and “clean energy usage by miners.”\nCrypto miners use purpose-built computers to solve complex mathematical equations that effectively enable a coin transaction to go through. The miners are rewarded for their efforts by being paid in the cryptocurrency.\nHowever, the entire process used to create a bitcoin requires a lot of energy and can consume more power than entire countries such as Finland and Switzerland, according to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index.\nOn the other hand,Ethereum— the second-largest cryptocurrency sometimes viewed as an alternative to bitcoin — is coming up with a different method of mining that requires less energy, Prasad pointed out.\nCalled“proof of stake,”it is the underlying mechanism for ethereum that activates so-called “validators” on the network, if they can prove that they hold ether, or a “stake.”\nUltimately, it should remove the need for vast amounts of computing power needed to validate transactions and the Ethereum Foundation claims it will use 99.95% less energy than before.\n“That is going to be much less energy intensive, and it could deliver a lot of the benefits that bitcoin was supposed to deliver. It could also make transactions much cheaper and quicker,” said Prasad.\nHowever, it’s not there yet, he added.\n2. Not so anonymous after all\nEarlier this month, U.S. law enforcement officials said they were able to recover $2.3 million in bitcoin paid to a criminal cybergroup involved in the ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline in May.\nThe FBI said its agents were able to identify a virtual currency wallet that the hackers used to collect payment from Colonial Pipeline.\n“The main idea of bitcoin… was to provide pseudonymity,” said Prasad. “But it turns out that if you use bitcoin a lot, and especially if you use Bitcoin to get any real goods and services, then it becomes possible eventually to link your address or your physical identity to your digital identity.”\nWhat’s interesting, he said, is that there are other cryptocurrencies trying to fix this and offer more anonymity. He highlighted Monero and Zcash as some examples.\n“So bitcoin really has set off something of a search for a better alternative and people seem to be on the lookout for a medium of exchange that does not require them to go through a trusted institution like the government or a commercial bank — but it’s not quite there yet,” Prasad said.\n3. Doesn’t work well as a currency\nIn theory, bitcoin was supposed to provide an anonymous and efficient medium of exchange but “it hasn’t worked in that respect,” said the economics professor.\nRather, it’s “slow and cumbersome” to use bitcoin to pay for goods and services, and the market is very volatile, Prasad said.\nBitcoin is prone to wide swings in volatility, as seen by its 30% plunge in a single day last month.\n“So you could take a bitcoin to a store and one day, get a cup of coffee and another day, with the same bitcoin, be able to treat yourself to a lavish meal. So that doesn’t work well for the medium of exchange,” he said.\nBitcoin has become a speculative asset for people who hope it will appreciate in value, rather than because they want to use it as a payment mode, Prasad said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1199,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168536562,"gmtCreate":1623978326956,"gmtModify":1631891118494,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nvidia - Interest in digital currencies intensified toward the end of 2020 and into 2021. And even after a massive crash that lopped half or more off the prices of some tokens, the area is still getting a huge amount of attention from investors trying to gauge the long-term prospects for cryptocurrencies and other related applications made possible by blockchain technology.
\n
The Nasdaq exchange recently became the home of the hottest publicly traded crypto stock.Coinbase Global(NASDAQ:COIN)has become a leading provider of cryptocurrency brokerage services, and its stock was up by almost 2% in late afternoon trading Wednesday as prices of leading cryptocurrencies rebounded from recent declines. But at least one Wall Street analyst is less than optimistic about Coinbase's long-term prospects.
\n
Not quite glittering like gold
\n
Coinbase's gain came as prices for several major cryptocurrencies made solid advances. Most top tokens were up by anywhere from 5% to 13% on the day, even though many had fallen to their worst levels in months just recently.
\n
It's reasonable for Coinbase's stock price to track the ups and downs of crypto tokens. When investors are excited about cryptocurrencies, that leads to an increase in trading, which gives the company more revenue. If investors decide that the space no longer has any long-term promise, then Coinbase's trading volumes would likely suffer, hurting its revenues.
\n
In the short run, Coinbase has emerged as a premier provider of crypto brokerage services. Many institutional investors have joined the individual investors who gravitated to its platform, and the growing popularity of its Coinbase Pro offering could well help the company build even greater customer loyalty.
\n
Say goodbye to fees?
\n
On the other hand, one Wall Street analyst believes that Coinbase faces a much steeper uphill battle. Raymond James started covering it Tuesday, and gave it an underperform rating.
\n
It's undeniable that Coinbase has a significant head start in gathering people interested in cryptocurrency trading. In a business in which reputation is key, it has managed to overcome the innate distrust that many investors have about crypto, allowing it to add large numbers of new accounts over the past year.
\n
As Raymond James sees it, though, the problem is that there's nothing stopping other companies from entering the space and challenging Coinbase's leadership role. Because the platform derives a large portion of its overall revenues from trading commissions, the emergence of new competitors could challenge its ability to keep charging as much as it does.
\n
Investors don't have to look too far to find parallels. Stockbrokers used to take in impressive amounts of fee revenue. Even during the discount brokerage era, major players still brought in billions of dollars from customers paying to trade stocks. Yet as time went on, intensifying competition forced commissions ever lower, a trend that culminated in the recent elimination of stock trading fees by nearly every major brokerage.
\n
If the same thing happens in the realm of cryptocurrency trading, then Coinbase's stock could continue along the downward slope it has been on since its first day of trading. Williams explains,
\n
\n “\n You could see financial implosion by preventing liquidity being put into the system. The system needs liquidity (freshly created dollars) to function. Without that liquidity, you would see more of an economic implosion than you have already seen. In fact, I will contend that the headline pandemic numbers have actually been a lot worse than they have been reporting. It also means we are not recovering quite as quickly. The Fed needs to keep the banking system afloat. They want to keep the economy afloat. All that requires a tremendous influx of liquidity in these difficult times.”\n
\n
So, is the choice inflation or implosion?Williams says, “That’s the choice, andI think we are going to have a combination of both of them...\"
\n
\n \"\n I think we are eventually headed into a hyperinflationary economic collapse. It’s not that we haven’t been in an economic collapse already, we are coming back some now. . . . The Fed has been creating money at a pace that has never been seen before. You are basically up 75% (in money creation) year over year. This is unprecedented. Normally, it might be up 1% or 2% year over year. The exploding money supply will lead to inflation. I am not saying we are going to get to 75% inflation—yet, but you are getting up to the 4% or 5% range, and you are soon going to be seeing 10% range year over year. . . .\n The Fed has lost control of inflation.”\n
\n
And remember, when the Fed has to admit the official inflation rate is 10%, John Williams says, “When they have to admit the inflation rate is 10%, my number is going to be up to around 15% or higher. My number rides on top of their number.”
\n
Right now, the Shadowstat.com inflation rate is above 11%.That’s if it were calculated the way it was before 1980 when the government started using accounting gimmicks to make inflation look less than it really is. The Shadowstats.com number cuts out all the accounting gimmicks and is the true inflation rate that most Americans are seeing right now, not the “official” 4.25% recently reported.
\n
Williams says the best way to fight the inflation that is already here is to buy tangible assets. Williams says,
\n
\n “Canned food is a tangible asset, and you can use it for barter if you have to. . . . Physical gold and silver is the best way to protect your buying power over time.”\n Gold may be a bit expensive for most, but silver is still relatively cheap. Williams says, “Everything is going to go up in price.”\n
\n
When will the worst inflation be hitting America? My number rides on top of their number.”\nRight now, the Shadowstat.com inflation rate is above 11%.That’s if it were calculated the way it was before 1980 when the government started using accounting gimmicks to make inflation look less than it really is. The Shadowstats.com number cuts out all the accounting gimmicks and is the true inflation rate that most Americans are seeing right now, not the “official” 4.25% recently reported.\nWilliams says the best way to fight the inflation that is already here is to buy tangible assets. Williams says,\n\n “Canned food is a tangible asset, and you can use it for barter if you have to. . . . Physical gold and silver is the best way to protect your buying power over time.”\n Gold may be a bit expensive for most, but silver is still relatively cheap. Williams says, “Everything is going to go up in price.”\n\nWhen will the worst inflation be hitting America? Williams predicts,\n\n“I am looking down the road, and in early 2022, I am looking for something close to a hyperinflationary circumstance and effectively a collapsed economy.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":102,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":131987718,"gmtCreate":1621821864934,"gmtModify":1631892328434,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Elon supporter","listText":"Elon supporter","text":"Elon supporter","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/131987718","repostId":"1149225587","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1149225587","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621821761,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1149225587?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-24 10:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"An RV Attachment For Tesla's Cybertruck, Which Isn't Even In Production Yet, Already Has $50 Million In Pre-Orders","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1149225587","media":"zerohedge","summary":"An RV attachment for Tesla's Cybertruck, that pops out of the the truck's bed and turns it into a li","content":"
An RV attachment for Tesla's Cybertruck, that pops out of the the truck's bed and turns it into a living space, already has $50 million in pre-orders. on Nasdaq, a 1.71-to-1 ratio favored decliners. The S&P 500 posted 3 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 34 new highs and 49 new lows.Financial Report4.5 Billion Parcels Expanded Market Share to 20.4%KE Holdings EPS beats by $0.04, beats on revenueVictoria's Secret parent L Brands swings to quarterly profit as sales riseCisco stock drops as higher costs amid chip shortage ding earnings outlookChip Design Software Firm Synopsys Trounces Fiscal Second-Quarter Targets","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":240,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":375766773,"gmtCreate":1619397699492,"gmtModify":1634273844143,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Market in bullish sentiment again","listText":"Market in bullish sentiment again","text":"Market in bullish sentiment again","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/375766773","repostId":"1184404050","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":228,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167276052,"gmtCreate":1624274198876,"gmtModify":1631891118482,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Another FUD reason","listText":"Another FUD reason","text":"Another FUD reason","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/167276052","repostId":"1125790272","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1587,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":138905480,"gmtCreate":1621903624840,"gmtModify":1631892328419,"author":{"id":"3568536339150618","authorId":"3568536339150618","name":"Jeffgoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a1166397d2b5f6ddeaca6a777eb59be6","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3568536339150618","authorIdStr":"3568536339150618"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Agreed . Its Mac and iPad sales did better, with its computers up 70.1% and iPad sales growing nearly 79% on an annual basis.

Apple said it would increase its dividend by 7% to $0.22 per share and authorized $90 billion in share buybacks, which is significantly higher than last year’s $50 billion outlay and 2019′s $75 billion.

Here’s how Apple did versus Refinitiv estimates:

EPS: $1.40 vs. $0.99 estimated

Revenue: $89.58 billion vs. $77.36 billion estimated, up 53.7% year-over-year

iPhone revenue: $47.94 billion vs. $41.43 billion estimated, up 65.5% year-over-year

Services revenue: $16.90 billion vs. $15.57 billion estimated, up 26.7% year over year

Other Products revenue: $7.83 billion vs. $7.79 billion estimated, up 24% year-over-year

Mac revenue: $9.10 billion vs. $6.86 billion estimated, up 70.1% year-over-year

iPad revenue: $7.80 billion vs. $5.58 billion estimated, up 78.9% year-over-year

Gross margin: 42.5% vs. 39.8% estimated

Apple did not issue official guidance for what it expects in the quarter ending in June. It hasn’t provided revenue guidance since the start of the pandemic, citing uncertainty. This is Apple’s second quarter in a row with double-digit growth in all product categories. Apple CFO Luca Maestri told analysts that the company expects June quarter revenue to rise by double digits year-over-year, although it faces some supply shortages due to the worldwide chip shortage.

Apple has said in the past months that its business has been boosted by the pandemic as consumers and businesses bought computers to work and entertain themselves while at home. But Apple’s strong results in the quarter suggest that the trend may persist as more economies open up.

Or, as Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement: “This quarter reflects both the enduring ways our products have helped our users meet this moment in their own lives, as well as the optimism consumers seem to feel about better days ahead for all of us.”

Mac sales were up 70%, and Cook said that the result was “fueled by” the company’s introduction of its Mac laptops that used its own M1 chips for longer battery life, instead of processors sold by Intel. iPad sales were up nearly 79% year-over-year.

Neither of those results include iPad Pro or iMac models the company announced in March, which are expected to drive additional demand.

“We’re seeing strong first-time buyers on the Mac … it continues to run just south of 50%,” Cook told CNBC’s Josh Lipton. “And, in China, it’s even higher than that … it’s more around two-thirds. And that speaks to people preferring to work on the Mac.”

Apple’s iPhone also reported strong results this quarter, quelling fears that the current annual cycle could slow down. Last year, Apple released iPhones with a new exterior design and 5G support, which many investors believed could prompt a major upgrade cycle, which this quarter’s results indicate.

In greater China, which includes the mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Apple’s revenue increased over 87% year-over-year to $17.73 billion, although the comparison is to a quarter last year in which China was largely shut down in the early days of the pandemic. Every other geographical category, including the Americas and Europe, were also up on an annual basis.

Apple’s high-margin services business, including iCloud, App Store, and subscriptions like Apple Music, also showed 26.7% growth.

One metric that Apple uses to show the growth in services is the number of subscriptions it has, which not only include its own subscriptions like Apple One, but also subscriptions through its App Store.

“We now have over 660 million paid subscriptions across the services on the platform, and that’s up 40 million from the previous quarter, which is an acceleration from 35 million,” Cook told CNBC.

However, Apple’s App Store has been challenged by lawmakers and companies that say it costs too much and has too much power. A closely-watched trial with Fortnite maker Epic Games over App Store policies kicks off next week.

“The App Store has been an economic miracle. Last year, the estimates are that there was over a half a trillion dollars of economic activity because of the store. And, so, this has been just an economic gamechanger for not only the United States, but several countries around the world. And, we’re going to go in and tell our story. And we’ll see where it goes.
