Meanwhile, traders will also await more data on the U.S. economic recovery with the Labor Department's monthly jobs report later this week.
\n
The Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) November meeting will take place from Tuesday to Wednesday, with the policy statement and press conference from the meeting serving as the central bank's penultimate opportunity this year to announce formal plans to begin rolling back its crisis-era quantitative easing program. For the past year-and-a-half, the central bank has been purchasing $120 billion per month in agency mortgage-backed securities and Treasuries, as one major tool to support the economy during the pandemic.
\n
In late September, the FOMC's latest monetary policy statement and press conference from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell suggested the central bank was apt to announce the start of tapering before year-end, and continue the tapering process until \"around the middle of next year.\"
\n
\"The upcoming FOMC meeting will be important for three reasons: 1) the announcement of tapering; 2) guidance around what tapering means for the path of hikes; and 3) nuanced changes in views around inflation risks given recent data,\" wrote Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer in a note.
\n
\"The statement that announces the new pace of asset purchases will be followed by a note regarding flexibility stating that asset purchases are not on a pre-set course and will depend on the outlook for the labor market and inflation as well as an assessment of the efficacy of asset purchases,\" she predicted.
\n
She noted that Powell may also use the press conference to reiterate that the end of tapering would not necessarily indicate the start of rate hikes, and that both policy actions are distinct. In previous public remarks, Powell has already made a similar point in previous public remarks, saying, \"the timing and pace of the coming reduction in asset purchases will not be intended to carry a direct signal regarding the timing of interest rate liftoff.\"
\n
Given the market has been anticipating the start to tapering for months now, speculation around when the Fed will make a move on interest rates has become a point of particular interest to investors. Investors and economists have mulled whether the Fed may need to act more quickly than previously telegraphed on adjusting interest rates to stave off inflation, which has proven more long-lasting than some had suggested.
\n
WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 24: Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell testifies during a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Capitol Hill on September 24, 2020 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)Drew Angerer via Getty Images
\n
In September, core personal consumption expenditures — the Fed's preferred gauge of underlying inflation — rose 3.6% over last year for a fourth consecutive month, coming in at the fastest clip since 1991. And earlier this month, Powell acknowledged in public remarks that the supply chain constraints and shortages that spurred the latest rise in prices are \"likely to last longer than previously expected, likely well into next year.\"
\n
While the central bank will not release an updated Summary of Economic Projections with their policy statement on Wednesday, the latest projections from the September meeting suggested the committee was split on rate hikes for 2022, with nine members seeing no rate hikes by the end of next year while the other nine members saw at least one hike.
\n
\"I think the Fed has pretty well determined to start the taper pretty quickly. We expect them to announce it next week and then start it soon thereafter, so that's pretty well carved in stone,\" Kathy Jones, Charles Schwab chief fixed income strategist, told Yahoo Finance Live last week. \"I think the big debate now is how quickly the Fed moves toward actually raising rates. The expectation in the market has really shifted to expecting as many as two rate hikes in 2022 and 2023 ... that’s a pretty aggressive pace of tightening.\"
\n
October jobs report
\n
One of this week's most closely watched pieces of economic data will be the October jobs report, which is due for release on Friday from the Labor Department.
\n
Economists are looking to see a pick-up in the pace of hiring for October after a disappointing print in September, when just 194,000 non-farm payrolls returned versus the half million expected. Over the past two months, payroll gains averaged at just 280,000. The unemployment rate is expected to take another small step toward pre-pandemic levels in October as well, with the jobless rate anticipated to dip to 4.7% from 4.8% the prior month.
\n
Still, the labor market has still fallen short its pre-pandemic conditions on a number of fronts. The unemployment rate has yet to return to its 50-year low of 3.5% from February 2020. And as of September, the civilian labor force was still down by about 3.1 million individuals from pre-virus levels.
\n
One factor weighing on the labor market in August and September was the Delta variant, which may have deterred some workers from seeking employment in person for risk of infection. And an ongoing element dragging on the labor market's recovery has been a mismatch of supply and demand, with employers struggling to fill a near-record number of job openings while voluntary quits jumped to a historically high level.
\n
\"Next week’s October payrolls report will shed light on whether supply eased on diminishing constraints or if the labor market continues to face headwinds for now,\" wrote Rubeela Farooqi, chief U.S. economist for High Frequency Economics, in a note last week.
\n
But some data from the past couple weeks has reflected favorably on conditions in the labor market in October. Weekly new unemployment claims broke below 300,000 for the first time since the start of the pandemic during the survey week for the October jobs report, or the week that includes the 12th of the month. And in the Conference Board's October Consumer Confidence Index, just 10.6% of consumers said jobs were \"hard to get,\" down from 13.0% in September. That brought the Conference Board's closely watched labor market differential, or percentage of consumers saying jobs are \"hard to get\" subtracted from the percentage saying jobs \"are plentiful,\" to 45, or its highest level since 2000.
\n
Economic calendar
\n
\n

Monday: Markit U.S. Manufacturing PMI, Oct. final (59.3 expected, 59.2 in September); Constructing spending, month-over-month, September (0.4% expected, 0.0% in August); ISM Manufacturing Index, Oct. For the past year-and-a-half, the central bank has been purchasing $120 billion per month in agency mortgage-backed securities and Treasuries, as one major tool to support the economy during the pandemic.\nIn late September, the FOMC's latest monetary policy statement and press conference from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell suggested the central bank was apt to announce the start of tapering before year-end, and continue the tapering process until \"around the middle of next year.\"\n\"The upcoming FOMC meeting will be important for three reasons: 1) the announcement of tapering; 2) guidance around what tapering means for the path of hikes; and 3) nuanced changes in views around inflation risks given recent data,\" wrote Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer in a note.\n\"The statement that announces the new pace of asset purchases will be followed by a note regarding flexibility stating that asset purchases are not on a pre-set course and will depend on the outlook for the labor market and inflation as well as an assessment of the efficacy of asset purchases,\" she predicted.\nShe noted that Powell may also use the press conference to reiterate that the end of tapering would not necessarily indicate the start of rate hikes, and that both policy actions are distinct. In previous public remarks, Powell has already made a similar point in previous public remarks, saying, \"the timing and pace of the coming reduction in asset purchases will not be intended to carry a direct signal regarding the timing of interest rate liftoff.\"\nGiven the market has been anticipating the start to tapering for months now, speculation around when the Fed will make a move on interest rates has become a point of particular interest to investors. Investors and economists have mulled whether the Fed may need to act more quickly than previously telegraphed on adjusting interest rates to stave off inflation, which has proven more long-lasting than some had suggested.\nWASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 24: Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell testifies during a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Capitol Hill on September 24, 2020 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)Drew Angerer via Getty Images\nIn September, core personal consumption expenditures — the Fed's preferred gauge of underlying inflation — rose 3.6% over last year for a fourth consecutive month, coming in at the fastest clip since 1991. And earlier this month, Powell acknowledged in public remarks that the supply chain constraints and shortages that spurred the latest rise in prices are \"likely to last longer than previously expected, likely well into next year.\"\nWhile the central bank will not release an updated Summary of Economic Projections with their policy statement on Wednesday, the latest projections from the September meeting suggested the committee was split on rate hikes for 2022, with nine members seeing no rate hikes by the end of next year while the other nine members saw at least one hike.\n\"I think the Fed has pretty well determined to start the taper pretty quickly. The expectation in the market has really shifted to expecting as many as two rate hikes in 2022 and 2023 ... that’s a pretty aggressive pace of tightening.\"\nOctober jobs report\nOne of this week's most closely watched pieces of economic data will be the October jobs report, which is due for release on Friday from the Labor Department.\nEconomists are looking to see a pick-up in the pace of hiring for October after a disappointing print in September, when just 194,000 non-farm payrolls returned versus the half million expected. Over the past two months, payroll gains averaged at just 280,000. The unemployment rate is expected to take another small step toward pre-pandemic levels in October as well, with the jobless rate anticipated to dip to 4.7% from 4.8% the prior month.\nStill, the labor market has still fallen short its pre-pandemic conditions on a number of fronts. The unemployment rate has yet to return to its 50-year low of 3.5% from February 2020. And as of September, the civilian labor force was still down by about 3.1 million individuals from pre-virus levels.\nOne factor weighing on the labor market in August and September was the Delta variant, which may have deterred some workers from seeking employment in person for risk of infection. And an ongoing element dragging on the labor market's recovery has been a mismatch of supply and demand, with employers struggling to fill a near-record number of job openings while voluntary quits jumped to a historically high level.\n\"Next week’s October payrolls report will shed light on whether supply eased on diminishing constraints or if the labor market continues to face headwinds for now,\" wrote Rubeela Farooqi, chief U.S. economist for High Frequency Economics, in a note last week.\nBut some data from the past couple weeks has reflected favorably on conditions in the labor market in October. That brought the Conference Board's closely watched labor market differential, or percentage of consumers saying jobs are \"hard to get\" subtracted from the percentage saying jobs \"are plentiful,\" to 45, or its highest level since 2000.\nEconomic calendar\n\nMonday: Markit U.S. Manufacturing PMI, Oct. final (59.3 expected, 59.2 in September); Constructing spending, month-over-month, September (0.4% expected, 0.0% in August); ISM Manufacturing Index, Oct. Inserting actual house prices in place of the non-market rents would add roughly five percentage points to 4.2% headline and 3% core inflation readings. The last time the US consumer price inflation ran that high was during the 1978 to 1982 time frame.\nJust because reported inflation statistics no longer include actual house prices does not mean a rise in house price is not a sign of increased inflation and higher inflation expectations. If an increase in house prices is not inflation, then what is it?\nOne would think the current generation of policymakers would include house prices in their policy framework since it is an inflation-related outcome directly linked to monetary policy.\nInflation cycles don't end well, and the odds of a bad outcome should be measurably higher when policymakers are unaware that monetary policy is fueling an unsustainable price cycle.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":266,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":892385095,"gmtCreate":1628639493817,"gmtModify":1631888705875,"author":{"id":"3569931251743015","authorId":"3569931251743015","name":"Taozi","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569931251743015","authorIdStr":"3569931251743015"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":9,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/892385095","repostId":"2158035654","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":341,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":859819551,"gmtCreate":1634686472136,"gmtModify":1634686472329,"author":{"id":"3569931251743015","authorId":"3569931251743015","name":"Taozi","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569931251743015","authorIdStr":"3569931251743015"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Happy] ","listText":"[Happy] ","text":"[Happy]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/859819551","repostId":"2176710436","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":534,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":189702843,"gmtCreate":1623287505282,"gmtModify":1634034963754,"author":{"id":"3569931251743015","authorId":"3569931251743015","name":"Taozi","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569931251743015","authorIdStr":"3569931251743015"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":7,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/189702843","repostId":"1142408805","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1142408805","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623280126,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1142408805?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-10 07:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. stocks end lower ahead of inflation report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1142408805","media":"reuters","summary":"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Not everyone has a huge investment account and","content":"
Cheap stocks are always popular and with good reason. Not everyone has a huge investment account and cheap stocks let you spread your money around. Instead of spending everything on one or two shares of a tech giant or anelectric car company, you can take that same amount of cash and diversify.

Doing so makes investing more interesting. It also protects you from a catastrophic loss should one of those expensive stocks suddenly drop in value.

I’ve put together a list of seven cheap stocks that are well worth considering for your portfolio. They cover a diverse range of industries from tech to mining, so there’s something here for everyone.

Adecoagro SA(NYSE:AGRO)

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional(NYSE:SID)

Himax Technologies, Inc.(NASDAQ:HIMX)

National Energy Services Reunited Corp(NASDAQ:NESR)

United Microelectronics Corp(NYSE:UMC)

Wipro Limited(NYSE:WIT)

Workhorse Group Inc(NASDAQ:WKHS)

Making these choice even more compelling is that fact that each earns an ‘A’ rating inPortfolio Grader. Just because it’s a cheap stock doesn’t have to mean it isrisky or lacking in growth potential.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: Adecoagro (AGRO)Source: Shutterstock

Adecoagro is a South American holding company with a focus on agribusiness. AGRO is involved in a range of related ventures including farming of food staples like rice and sugar, dairy products and the production of ethanol from sugarcane.

Several trends spell long-term growth for AGRO stock. Global food prices have been on the rise, and that trend isprojected to continue. That’s good news for a company like Adecoagro that farms grains and other food products. In addition, the push to reduce carbon emissions is going to have an ongoing payoff for Adecoagro’s ethanol business. It will take decades before global vehicle fleets are converted to EVs.

Butethanol produces 46% less greenhouse gases than gasoline. That means Ethanol is going to be increasingly important as a way to cut vehicle emissions during the long transition to EVs.

AGRO stock is currently trading for $8.80 and has posted 118% growth over the past 12 months.

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (SID)Source: Shutterstock

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional is a company that’s poised to take full advantage of a post-pandemic economic boom. Brazil’s second-largest steel producer is also a large cement producer. One of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s strengths is its vertical integration. The company mines raw materials, refines them in its own processing facilities, produces the electricity for those plants and has a stake in the ownership of railway and port facilities used to distribute its products.

SID stock currently trades at $8.86, after posting impressive growth of 620% over the past 12 months. With China and other countriespushing demand for steeland cement, SID is one of those cheap stocks that is positioned for continued growth.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: Himax Technologies (HIMX)Source: Shutterstock

Himax Technologies is one of my favorite cheap stocks in the tech sector. This Taiwanese company is a fabless semiconductor producer, with a focus on image processing technology. Its chips are in high demand for game consoles, TV’s, laptops, cars, cameras and basically any product that’s equipped with a display.

That’s pretty mucheverythingthese days. That demand isn’t going anywhere but up.

The biggest risk right now for Himax is that as a fabless semiconductor company, it contracts its designs out to other companies for production. We all know about the shortages currently affecting global semiconductor producers. That has impacted Himax as well.

Despite not being able to meet demand, HIMX stock is up 325% over the past 12 months.CNN Moneyanalysts have a median price target of $17.50, so I’m not the only one who thinks there’s upside for HIMX. That’s only going to increase as the global chip shortage eventually eases.

National Energy Services Reunited (NESR)Source: VLADJ55 via Shutterstock

Fossil fuel stocks are becoming cheap, but they are far more likely to be on a “stocks to sell” list these days than a recommendation list. So what is NESR stock doing on this list?

True, National Energy Services Reunited is deeply involved in the fossil fuel industry. However, this is not an oil production company. Instead, NESR works with various oil and gas producers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions. It provides a wide range of production services to help the fossil fuel producers get the most out of their wells.

Zero-emissions electric and hydrogen energy may be the future, but the use of fossil fuels isn’t going to end tomorrow. They will be phased out over decades. In the meantime, producers will be avoiding the expense of developing new oil and gas fields, instead using technology to extract everything possible out of existing developments. That trend is going to benefit National Energy Services Reunited for years to come.

Currently trading just around the $12 level, NESR stock has gained 144% over the past 12 months.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: United Microelectronics(UMC)Source: Shutterstock

Himax Technologies is a chip maker facing shortages of its in-demand products due to its fabless approach. United Microelectronics is another Taiwanese chip company, but this one operates its own foundries. UMC is one of only a dozen global foundries that can make those chips fabless companies like Himax contract out. So this company is operating at full steam.

Naturally, UMC stock reflects the unprecedented demand. The company’srevenue grew 19.3% in 2020, despite the pandemic. Not everyone has a huge investment account and cheap stocks let you spread your money around. Instead of spending everything on one or two shares of a tech giant or anelectric car company, you can take that same amount of cash and diversify.Doing so makes investing more interesting. It also protects you from a catastrophic loss should one of those expensive stocks suddenly drop in value.I’ve put together a list of seven cheap stocks that are well worth considering for your portfolio. They cover a diverse range of industries from tech to mining, so there’s something here for everyone.Adecoagro SA(NYSE:AGRO)Companhia Siderurgica Nacional(NYSE:SID)Himax Technologies, Inc.(NASDAQ:HIMX)National Energy Services Reunited Corp(NASDAQ:NESR)United Microelectronics Corp(NYSE:UMC)Wipro Limited(NYSE:WIT)Workhorse Group Inc(NASDAQ:WKHS)Making these choice even more compelling is that fact that each earns an ‘A’ rating inPortfolio Grader. Just because it’s a cheap stock doesn’t have to mean it isrisky or lacking in growth potential.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Adecoagro (AGRO)Source: ShutterstockAdecoagro is a South American holding company with a focus on agribusiness. AGRO is involved in a range of related ventures including farming of food staples like rice and sugar, dairy products and the production of ethanol from sugarcane.Several trends spell long-term growth for AGRO stock. Global food prices have been on the rise, and that trend isprojected to continue. That’s good news for a company like Adecoagro that farms grains and other food products. In addition, the push to reduce carbon emissions is going to have an ongoing payoff for Adecoagro’s ethanol business. It will take decades before global vehicle fleets are converted to EVs.Butethanol produces 46% less greenhouse gases than gasoline. That means Ethanol is going to be increasingly important as a way to cut vehicle emissions during the long transition to EVs.AGRO stock is currently trading for $8.80 and has posted 118% growth over the past 12 months.Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (SID)Source: ShutterstockCompanhia Siderurgica Nacional is a company that’s poised to take full advantage of a post-pandemic economic boom. Brazil’s second-largest steel producer is also a large cement producer. One of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s strengths is its vertical integration. The company mines raw materials, refines them in its own processing facilities, produces the electricity for those plants and has a stake in the ownership of railway and port facilities used to distribute its products.SID stock currently trades at $8.86, after posting impressive growth of 620% over the past 12 months. With China and other countriespushing demand for steeland cement, SID is one of those cheap stocks that is positioned for continued growth.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Himax Technologies (HIMX)Source: ShutterstockHimax Technologies is one of my favorite cheap stocks in the tech sector. This Taiwanese company is a fabless semiconductor producer, with a focus on image processing technology. Its chips are in high demand for game consoles, TV’s, laptops, cars, cameras and basically any product that’s equipped with a display. That’s pretty mucheverythingthese days. That demand isn’t going anywhere but up.The biggest risk right now for Himax is that as a fabless semiconductor company, it contracts its designs out to other companies for production. We all know about the shortages currently affecting global semiconductor producers. That has impacted Himax as well.Despite not being able to meet demand, HIMX stock is up 325% over the past 12 months.CNN Moneyanalysts have a median price target of $17.50, so I’m not the only one who thinks there’s upside for HIMX. That’s only going to increase as the global chip shortage eventually eases.National Energy Services Reunited (NESR)Source: VLADJ55 via ShutterstockFossil fuel stocks are becoming cheap, but they are far more likely to be on a “stocks to sell” list these days than a recommendation list. So what is NESR stock doing on this list?True, National Energy Services Reunited is deeply involved in the fossil fuel industry. However, this is not an oil production company. Instead, NESR works with various oil and gas producers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions. It provides a wide range of production services to help the fossil fuel producers get the most out of their wells.Zero-emissions electric and hydrogen energy may be the future, but the use of fossil fuels isn’t going to end tomorrow. They will be phased out over decades. In the meantime, producers will be avoiding the expense of developing new oil and gas fields, instead using technology to extract everything possible out of existing developments. That trend is going to benefit National Energy Services Reunited for years to come.Currently trading just around the $12 level, NESR stock has gained 144% over the past 12 months.Cheap Stocks to Buy: United Microelectronics(UMC)Source: ShutterstockHimax Technologies is a chip maker facing shortages of its in-demand products due to its fabless approach. United Microelectronics is another Taiwanese chip company, but this one operates its own foundries. UMC is one of only a dozen global foundries that can make those chips fabless companies like Himax contract out. So this company is operating at full steam.Naturally, UMC stock reflects the unprecedented demand. The company’srevenue grew 19.3% in 2020, despite the pandemic. Monthly sales have continued at or near double-digit YoY increases through 2021 as well. UMC shares were going for $2.61 at this time last year. Now trading around $11, that’s a 300%-plus return for investors over the past 12 months.Cheap stocks don’t get much better than this.Wipro (WIT)Source: ShutterstockWipro is an IT consulting and business process services company based in India. With so many companies forced to have employees work from home because of the pandemic, IT services companies like Wipro have been booking record-breaking quarters. The best in a decade. That spending is expected to continue as companies keep up their IT spending to better prepare themselves for staff who may work from home permanently — and to enable seamless operation during future pandemic or extreme weather events. In addition, the strong U.S. dollar has meant that Wipro’s considerable U.S. business is helping to boost revenue through favorable exchange rates as well. In fiscal 2020,the U.S. market accounted for 59.1%of Wipro’s revenue. WIT stock has rewarded investors with 140% growth over the past 12-months.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Workhorse Group (WKHS)Source: Photo from WorkHorse.comYou may have seen Workhorse Group in the headlines lately, and not in a good way. WKHS stock plummeted 47% in a single day after the maker of commercial EV delivery vans lost out on a lucrative contract to replace the U.S. Postal Service’s fleet. The loss sent investors running for the exits.
