The practice can be risky, but also highly lucrative.</p>\n<p>Day trading may sound enticing for those looking to make a swift profit, but it can be extremely challenging to make a formidable career out of the practice. In fact, a study published by the University of California, Davis, in 2010 revealed that only 1% of day traders consistently make a living from that practice.</p>\n<p>But for the few who can succeed in the high-stakes world of day trading, it likely will consume most to all of their time. It is very much a full-time job.</p>\n<p><b>How Day Trading Works</b></p>\n<p>At its core, day trading is all about stock market volatility; day traders look for stocks that are on the move. Whether it’s positive or negative news which alters a stock’s trajectory, economic reports, corporate earnings, or simply a change in market mood, day traders cash in on rapid change. They enter and exit positions very quickly. Day traders must monitor positions closely, and often make quick, high-stakes decisions. There's no going to the pub for an afternoon drink hoping the positions they've taken will turn out.</p>\n<p>Something to note, opportunities are not limited to betting that an investment security will rise in price; traders can also profit by betting on downward price movements. Liquidity is also very important to day traders, even more so than other investors. Resistance refers to a level where an uptrend reverses a sell-off</i>.)</p></li>\n <li><p><b>News-based trading:</b>Here, day traders take advantage of volatility surrounding news events.</p></li>\n <li><p><b>High-frequency trading ((HFT)):</b>This method utilizes algorithms to exploit small or short-term market inefficiencies.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Swing Trading vs. Trend Trading vs. Buy and Hold</b></p>\n<p>While a day trader closes out his positions at the end of each trading day, a swing trader can hold her positions for days to even weeks before selling. In&nbsp;swing trading, since there is more time for an equity’s price to increase, there is also more opportunity to profit. With the right selling strategy, swing trading can be much less risky than day trading.</p>\n<p>By contrast, trend trading involves using a stock’s past price movements to make predictions on its future trajectory. Since trend traders operate on a longer timeline, they can also gauge broader economic trends and business cycles to determine when to buy and sell a stock. This strategy isn’t usually applied by day traders or swing traders.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, buy-and-hold is often hailed as one of the best strategies available to investors. Under this approach, investors buy an asset and hold it for a few years or even decades, if they wish to, no matter what bumps occur along the way. The aim of this highly passive investing style is to ride out short-term market instability and losses in order to maximize returns over the long term. This is the basis for most long-term investing programs like 401(k)s and IRAs.</p>\n<p><b>Buying on Margin</b></p>\n<p>Day traders often use borrowed money to make trades, a method called “buying on margin.” With a margin account, a trader can use the securities they already own as leverage to borrow up to 50% of the value of the security they’re going to buy. Buying on margin can help day traders increase their profits substantially — far more than what they could have made using their own money. But the practice doesn’t come without risks. Leverage magnifies one's losses when trades don't work out, resulting in costly&nbsp;margin calls.</p>\n<p><b>Day Trading Rules and Risks</b></p>\n<p>While day trading is neither illegal nor unethical, it can be extremely risky. In fact, the Securities and Exchange Commission&nbsp;warns on its website&nbsp;that the practice can result in substantial financial losses in a very short time.</p>\n<p>While conventional investing involves the careful analysis of stocks to determine whether an investment is wise, day traders use state-of-the-art technology and technical analysis to spot intraday trends. The risks to investors can be so grave that the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has rules in place to monitor this fast-moving practice.</p>\n<blockquote>\n <i>Key Takeaway: Day trading is neither illegal nor unethical, but it can be extraordinarily risky. For instance, it specifies that a \"pattern day trader\" must maintain at minimum $25,000 in equity on any day that they day trade. (A non-pattern day trader is only required to maintain $2,000). Furthermore, the required minimum equity must be in the account before any day-trading begins. And if the account slips below $25,000, day trading is not permitted until it is restored.</p>\n<p>A day trader may trade up to four times the account's maintenance margin excess as of end of business of the previous day. If a day trader exceeds that limit, however, the brokerage firm will issue a day-trading margin call. The day trader will then have, at most, five business days to deposit funds to meet that call. The brokerage firm can also charge a commission for these transactions.</p>\n<p><b>Does Cryptocurrency Trading Count as Day Trading?</b></p>\n<p>Another way to get involved in day trading is via cryptocurrencies. But since they aren’t regulated by the SEC or FINRA, at least at this point, investors won’t have to worry about day trading limits.</p>\n<p><b>Day Trading Taxes</b></p>\n<p>Day trading doesn’t qualify for favorable tax treatment. Successful day traders are expected to pay income taxes just like traditional investors in the stock market. In very rare cases, day traders can apply for special day trader tax treatment with the IRS. To qualify for that status, the IRS looks for the following criteria: 1) Profit seeking must derive from daily market movements in securities' prices, not from dividends or longer-term capital appreciation. 2) Market activity must be high. 3) The investor must be trading with both continuity and regularity.</p>\n<p>But for those who aren’t eligible, the following rules apply:</p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Day traders are required to pay taxes on investment gains in the year they sell.</p></li>\n <li><p>Day traders may offset gains against losses, but the gains they offset cannot total more than their losses.</p></li>\n <li><p>If positions are held for a year or less, ordinary income taxes apply to any gains.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Is Day Trading for Everyone?</b></p>\n<p>For a new investor just starting to get into the markets, day trading likely isn’t suitable. Most day traders bring with them substantial training and knowledge about the markets. And with just one bad trade, large amounts of money can be lost very quickly.</p>\n<blockquote>\n <i>Tip: Day trading isn't usually advised for newer investors. Most day traders possess substantial training and knowledge about the markets.</i>\n</blockquote>\n<p>Unlike brokers who trade other people’s money, day traders are putting their own assets on the line. That’s precisely why regulatory bodies warn investors of the pitfalls associated with this type of trading.</p>\n<p>Many professional money managers even shy away from the practice of day trading. They argue that the benefits don’t warrant the risks. However, there are other reasons to own the stock.</p>\n<p>For example, you might appreciate Clover Health’s mission with itsflagship software platform, the Clover Assistant.&nbsp;With this platform, the company seeks to provide America’s seniors with highly affordable healthcare plans. That’s commendable, but is it profitable? Let’s check the data and find out.</p>\n<p>It might surprise you to discover that Clover Health is actually a revenue-generating juggernaut, or at least it was during 2021’s second quarter.</p>\n<p>For that quarter, Clover Healthtook in$412 million in total revenues. That represents a whopping 140% year-over-year increase.</p>\n<p>Clover Assistant was critical during this quarter, and according to Clover Health, that platform is on track to manage over $1 billion of annualized revenues.</p>\n<p><b>A Significant Milestone</b></p>\n<p>On top of all that,&nbsp;the lives recorded under Clover Management nearly doubled from the first quarter to the second, to approximately 129,000.</p>\n<p>Clearly, 2021’s second quarter was tremendous for CLOV stock.</p>\n<p>Plus, as Clover Health CEO Vivek Garipalli explained, a newly introduced method of healthcare delivery greatly enhanced his company’s profit potential.</p>\n<p>“Clover took another step in its journey to improve every life with the launch of Direct Contracting this past quarter. This milestone more than doubled our revenue and nearly doubled lives under Clover Assistant management,” Garipalli clarified.</p>\n<p>In June, Clover Health&nbsp;announced its plan&nbsp;to scale its in-home primary care program, Clover Home Care, through the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Direct Contracting model.</p>\n<p>This arrangement has the potential to make Medicare more financially sustainable for the patients. Single-digit earnings multiples have been the norm in past years, as investors have been reluctant to bet on a legacy automaker amid rapid evolution in key growth areas like electric vehicles and autonomous driving. Many have feared that GM would get left behind. GM hasn't been afraid to put money behind its efforts to catch up and become a leader in EVs, dedicating $35 billion in capital between now and 2025 toward the goal of building out its EV manufacturing capacity. In the next four years, GM expects to release 30 new EV models, and a combination of in-house development and strategic investment has helped improve the automaker's future prospects considerably.</p>\n<p>Most investors see GM's earnings continuing to grow modestly in 2022. That would provide further support for future stock gains if investors begin to recognize the prospects the automaker has to generate real growth in the years to come.</p>\n<h2>2. Capital One Financial</h2>\n<p>Financial stocks are perennial value plays, and <b>Capital One Financial </b>(NYSE:COF) is a great example of what the sector looks like right now. The banking and credit card specialist currently trades at between 10 and 11 times trailing earnings, and most investors following the stock see net income remaining at levels that will keep forward valuations below the 10 mark through the end of next year.</p>\n<p>The fear that many investors had about Capital One this time last year was that its exposure to credit risk could produce massive losses. Indeed, the reserves that the banking institution set aside to cover possible defaults caused Capital One to report net losses for the first half of 2020. The aim is to earn a profit on each trade, sometimes even small profits, and watch those gains compound. The practice can be risky, but also highly lucrative.</p>\n<p>Day trading may sound enticing for those looking to make a swift profit, but it can be extremely challenging to make a formidable career out of the practice. In fact, a study published by the University of California, Davis, in 2010 revealed that only 1% of day traders consistently make a living from that practice.</p>\n<p>But for the few who can succeed in the high-stakes world of day trading, it likely will consume most to all of their time. Many have feared that GM would get left behind. GM hasn't been afraid to put money behind its efforts to catch up and become a leader in EVs, dedicating $35 billion in capital between now and 2025 toward the goal of building out its EV manufacturing capacity. In the next four years, GM expects to release 30 new EV models, and a combination of in-house development and strategic investment has helped improve the automaker's future prospects considerably.</p>\n<p>Most investors see GM's earnings continuing to grow modestly in 2022. That would provide further support for future stock gains if investors begin to recognize the prospects the automaker has to generate real growth in the years to come.</p>\n<h2>2. Capital One Financial</h2>\n<p>Financial stocks are perennial value plays, and <b>Capital One Financial </b>(NYSE:COF) is a great example of what the sector looks like right now. The banking and credit card specialist currently trades at between 10 and 11 times trailing earnings, and most investors following the stock see net income remaining at levels that will keep forward valuations below the 10 mark through the end of next year.</p>\n<p>The fear that many investors had about Capital One this time last year was that its exposure to credit risk could produce massive losses. Indeed, the reserves that the banking institution set aside to cover possible defaults caused Capital One to report net losses for the first half of 2020. However, most of Capital One's customers benefited from stimulus measures that put much-needed money in their pockets, and that in turn kept Capital One's loss experience from being as bad as some had feared.</p>\n<p>Now, investors are excited about Capital One's ability to profit from an economic recovery. With its dividend restored to pre-pandemic levels and the prospects for a more favorable interest rate environment ahead, Capital One still looks promising even after a gain of 145% over the past year.</p>\n<h2>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AN\">AutoNation</a></h2>\n<p>Lastly, <b>AutoNation </b>(NYSE:AN) is the best performers on this list of still-cheap stocks. Shares have risen more than 160% since this time last year, but the auto dealer's stock still sports a valuation below 10 times trailing and forward earnings.</p>\n<p>AutoNation's success has stemmed from several sources. The used car market is extremely tight right now, and that's helping to boost prices of vehicles and bolster profit margins for smart dealers. AutoNation's first-quarter earnings tripled from year-ago levels and came in at an all-time record. Moreover, AutoNation has been making massive acquisitions to expand its nationwide network and build out an operation that can sell 1 million vehicles each and every year.</p>\n<p>In a highly fragmented business, AutoNation stands out with its willingness to embrace technology while offering an alternative to the locally owned dealer experience that make so many car buyers uncomfortable. Even once extraordinary conditions in the auto market start to return to normal, AutoNation looks poised to sustain its forward momentum and keep rewarding shareholders.</p>\n<h2>Be true to your investing self</h2>\n<p>It's always tempting when the rest of the market seems to have a different investment philosophy than you do to abandon what you've always done in search of better fortune elsewhere. Below, we'll look at three stocks that still trade at levels that most value investors would consider crazy-cheap -- even though they've already doubled from where they traded just a year ago.\nGM data by YCharts.\n1. General Motors\nGeneral Motors (NYSE:GM) has looked like a classic value stock for a long, long time. Single-digit earnings multiples have been the norm in past years, as investors have been reluctant to bet on a legacy automaker amid rapid evolution in key growth areas like electric vehicles and autonomous driving. GM hasn't been afraid to put money behind its efforts to catch up and become a leader in EVs, dedicating $35 billion in capital between now and 2025 toward the goal of building out its EV manufacturing capacity. In the next four years, GM expects to release 30 new EV models, and a combination of in-house development and strategic investment has helped improve the automaker's future prospects considerably.\nMost investors see GM's earnings continuing to grow modestly in 2022. That would provide further support for future stock gains if investors begin to recognize the prospects the automaker has to generate real growth in the years to come.\n2. Capital One Financial\nFinancial stocks are perennial value plays, and Capital One Financial (NYSE:COF) is a great example of what the sector looks like right now. The banking and credit card specialist currently trades at between 10 and 11 times trailing earnings, and most investors following the stock see net income remaining at levels that will keep forward valuations below the 10 mark through the end of next year.\nThe fear that many investors had about Capital One this time last year was that its exposure to credit risk could produce massive losses. Indeed, the reserves that the banking institution set aside to cover possible defaults caused Capital One to report net losses for the first half of 2020. However, most of Capital One's customers benefited from stimulus measures that put much-needed money in their pockets, and that in turn kept Capital One's loss experience from being as bad as some had feared.\nNow, investors are excited about Capital One's ability to profit from an economic recovery. With its dividend restored to pre-pandemic levels and the prospects for a more favorable interest rate environment ahead, Capital One still looks promising even after a gain of 145% over the past year.\n3. AutoNation\nLastly, AutoNation (NYSE:AN) is the best performers on this list of still-cheap stocks. Shares have risen more than 160% since this time last year, but the auto dealer's stock still sports a valuation below 10 times trailing and forward earnings.\nAutoNation's success has stemmed from several sources. The used car market is extremely tight right now, and that's helping to boost prices of vehicles and bolster profit margins for smart dealers. AutoNation's first-quarter earnings tripled from year-ago levels and came in at an all-time record. Moreover, AutoNation has been making massive acquisitions to expand its nationwide network and build out an operation that can sell 1 million vehicles each and every year.\nIn a highly fragmented business, AutoNation stands out with its willingness to embrace technology while offering an alternative to the locally owned dealer experience that make so many car buyers uncomfortable. This took place during the summer, which is usually considered a less active time in the financial markets.&nbsp;But then, 2021 is truly like no other year in market history.</p>\n<p>All that being said, I’d like to encourage investors to watch Clover Health carefully – not just for the fast-paced share-price action, but for the company’s surprising revenue growth as well.</p>\n<p>Okay, I’ll admit it. I can’t prove or disprove that Reddit users were responsible for CLOV stock’s astonishing summer time rally.</p>\n<p>Still, it would be difficult to explain the run-up from $8 to $28, which took place in a matter of days, without considering the possibility of a massive short squeeze.</p>\n<p>After all, CLOV stock met the criteria for a good short squeeze candidate. These include the low share price, relatively low trading volume (prior to the squeeze) and it’s not a blue-chip stock.</p>\n<p><b>A Closer Look at CLOV Stock</b></p>\n<p>Unfortunately for folks who chased the stock near $28, the Clover Health share price tumbled after topping out in February.</p>\n<p>By early September, the stock was trading at around $9. Also, it should be noted that Clover Health has trailing 12-month earnings per share of -$2.45.</p>\n<p>That’s not a terrific historical earnings profile, I must admit. Yet, some recently released financial data should provide encouragement to Clover Health’s loyal stakeholders (on Reddit and elsewhere).</p>\n<p>CLOV stock made its way into the financial headlines for its meme stock status. However, there are other reasons to own the stock.</p>\n<p>For example, you might appreciate Clover Health’s mission with itsflagship software platform, the Clover Assistant.&nbsp;With this platform, the company seeks to provide America’s seniors with highly affordable healthcare plans. That’s commendable, but is it profitable? Let’s check the data and find out.</p>\n<p>It might surprise you to discover that Clover Health is actually a revenue-generating juggernaut, or at least it was during 2021’s second quarter.</p>\n<p>For that quarter, Clover Healthtook in$412 million in total revenues. they make things there. If it’s good for Nike, good for Starbucks, it’s going to be good for Apple,” Cramer said on“Squawk Box.”\nWhile Nike’s sales in Greater China were up just 17% in its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended May 31, CFO Matt Friend said on the conference call that the company saw improvements in May and June after a weaker April.\nFriend also mentioned Nike’s 40-year history in the region and said, “We continue to invest in serving consumers with the best products Nike has to offer in locally relevant ways.”\nIn late March, Nike began to experience backlash in China for a statement regarding forced labor allegations in the western region of Xinjiang. Citi in Aprildowngraded Nike’s stock to neutral from buy, citing China concerns as a key reason.\nCramer had previously expressed concerns about geopolitics potentially weighing on Nike.
