Continuing","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2193111443","media":"Investopedia","summary":"Put/call ratio climbing rapidly","content":"
Key Takeaways
\n
\n
Best Buy stock remains in a sharp downward trend.
\n
Recent trading volumes appear bullish at first glance, but finer aspects of recent changes to the open interest appear bearish.
\n
The share price for Best Buy remains well below its 20-day moving average.
\n
Volatility-based support and resistance levels allow for a larger move to the upside.
\n
\n
The share price of Best Buy Co., Inc. (BBY) has remained in a downward trend since the company fell 12% the day after its latest earnings report was released in late November. Despite beating analyst expectations, investors bid down the share prices of Best Buy as analysts expressed fear toward consumer demand and high supply chain costs. Recent market volatility has not provided a foundation on which Best Buy stock can pivot to the upside.
\n
At first glance, it appears thatr option traders are positioned for the Best Buy share price to reverse its recent downward trend. However, a deeper dive into the finer aspects of the Best Buy open interest paints a clearer picture. In addition, aspects of the Best Buy implied volatility suggest that the market is predicting further downside in the near term for Best Buy.
\n
Whereas recent trading volumes for Best Buy appear bullish at first glance, a more in-depth analysis of recent open interest changes and the impact of implied volatility suggests that option traders are buying put options and selling calls.
\n
Chart watchers can gain valuable insight into the overall sentiment toward Best Buy stock by combining an assessment of recent option activity with technical analysis of share price activity. The chart below depicts the recent price action for the Best Buy share price as of Tuesday, Dec 21.
\n

\n
Chart Analysis
\n
The chart illustrates the share price action of Best Buy over the course of the past three months. Each candle represents one trading day. The blue lines are a historical volatility range formed by 20-day Keltner Channel indicators, which depict price levels that represent a multiple of the average true fange (ATR) for Best Buy stock. ATR is a standard tool for illustrating historical volatility over time. The outer bands of the historical volatility range widened after the earnings-based share price drop and appear to be further pushing outwards to the downside as the share price continues to decline.
\n
From the left-hand side of the chart, Best Buy stock was in a mild downward trend, trading below its 20-day moving average. This is highlighted by the red arrow. This trend reversed at the beginning of October. This upward trend is highlighted by the green arrow. This helps to highlight the way that Best Buy stock rose to the extreme highs of the volatility range, topping out with its 52-week high the day before releasing earnings in late November.
\n
After dropping 12% the day after reporting earnings, Best Buy stock has remained in a strong downward trend at the extreme low of the volatility range. This trend is highlighted in blue. It's interesting to note that, at this time, Best Buy stock has failed to trade above its 20-day moving average, even on an intraday basis.
\n
In the past month, the highest Best Buy share price was $141.97, a 52-week high, in late November. This price is highlighted by the green balloon. Conversely, the lower share price during this time was $94.54 in mid-December, highlighted by the red balloon.
\n
Tip
\n
The Keltner Channel indicator displays a set of semi-parallel lines based on a 20-day simple moving average and an upper and lower line. Because the upper lines are drawn by adding a multiple of ATR to the average and the lower lines are drawn by subtracting a multiple of ATR from the average price, this channel indicator makes for an excellent visualization tool when charting historical volatility.
\n
Option Analysis
\n
Recent trading volumes of Best Buy options greatly favor calls over puts. On Tuesday, Dec. 21, over 8,000 calls were traded compared to 4,100 puts. This is nearly double the number of calls than puts, which, at first glance, appears bullish. However, trading volumes alone only tell one part of the story.
\n
An analysis of a stock's open interest can provide greater context into the sentiment of option traders. The current open interest for Best Buy features 75,000 calls against 82,000 puts. While recent trading volumes are incredibly bullish, these open interest figures illustrate a more moderate view of Best Buy's share price from option traders. However, much like trading volumes, open interest figures require further analysis to provide deeper insights into option trader sentiment.
\n
For Jan. 21, the next monthly option expiration date, there are a greater number of put options in the open interest than calls. The single option with the highest open interest is the $90 put with 4,400. This represents 7% downside to the current share price of Best Buy.
\n
Considering at-the-money options and one strike in either direction up or down the option chain, there are more than 2.5-to-1 puts than calls in the open interest for Jan. 21. This is important to consider, as these strikes perhaps reflect more realistic price action based on current share prices rather than far out-of-the-money options, which may have numbers skewed by speculators and option sellers collecting premium. The current number, with far more puts than calls, expresses a bearish sentiment.
\n
While the open interest is slightly bearish in total, option open interest as a whole is noticeably down. Over the past five days, total open interest has decreased 34%. While the open interest of puts has decreased by 22%, the call open interest has declined by 43% over this time period. This means that, while fewer option traders are willing to hold Best Buy options, more traders are taking positions with put options than calls. This is reflected in the put/call ratio, which has risen 36% in the past five days.
\n
A key measure for option trader sentiment in open interest is implied volatility. For options expiring Jan. 21, implied volatility suggests that traders are selling calls and buying puts. That's because for call options, the open interest is rising while implied volatility is falling, suggesting that traders are selling more contracts on short positions in the option. Conversely, for put options, open interest is rising while implied volatility is also rising, indicating that traders are adding to long positions in the option.
\n
While considering implied volatility, it is helpful to understand a concept known as volatility skew. Volatility skew is a measure of market implied volatility to both the upside and the downside, and the comparison of how they relate to each other. Current implied volatility skew is very bearish toward Best Buy. That's because the implied volatility for downside puts is greatly increasing relative to upside calls, which suggests that the market is pricing in a larger fear of a downside move for Best Buy. This skew can also be seen visually by the expanding volatility bands on the chart.
\n
The chart below illustrates at-the-money options expiring Jan. 21. The green box represents the pricing that call option sellers are offering and it implies a 38% probability that Best Buy shares will close inside this range or higher by expiration. The red box illustrates the pricing for puts, with a 37% chance if prices go lower by expiration.
\n

\n
The Bottom Line
\n
Over the past month, Best Buy shares have fallen 29.6%. (BBY) has remained in a downward trend since the company fell 12% the day after its latest earnings report was released in late November. Despite beating analyst expectations, investors bid down the share prices of Best Buy as analysts expressed fear toward consumer demand and high supply chain costs. Recent market volatility has not provided a foundation on which Best Buy stock can pivot to the upside.\nAt first glance, it appears thatr option traders are positioned for the Best Buy share price to reverse its recent downward trend. However, a deeper dive into the finer aspects of the Best Buy open interest paints a clearer picture. In addition, aspects of the Best Buy implied volatility suggest that the market is predicting further downside in the near term for Best Buy.\nWhereas recent trading volumes for Best Buy appear bullish at first glance, a more in-depth analysis of recent open interest changes and the impact of implied volatility suggests that option traders are buying put options and selling calls.\nChart watchers can gain valuable insight into the overall sentiment toward Best Buy stock by combining an assessment of recent option activity with technical analysis of share price activity. The chart below depicts the recent price action for the Best Buy share price as of Tuesday, Dec 21.\n\n Chart Analysis \nThe chart illustrates the share price action of Best Buy over the course of the past three months. Each candle represents one trading day. The blue lines are a historical volatility range formed by 20-day Keltner Channel indicators, which depict price levels that represent a multiple of the average true fange (ATR) for Best Buy stock. ATR is a standard tool for illustrating historical volatility over time. The outer bands of the historical volatility range widened after the earnings-based share price drop and appear to be further pushing outwards to the downside as the share price continues to decline.\nFrom the left-hand side of the chart, Best Buy stock was in a mild downward trend, trading below its 20-day moving average. This is highlighted by the red arrow. This trend reversed at the beginning of October. This upward trend is highlighted by the green arrow. This helps to highlight the way that Best Buy stock rose to the extreme highs of the volatility range, topping out with its 52-week high the day before releasing earnings in late November.\nAfter dropping 12% the day after reporting earnings, Best Buy stock has remained in a strong downward trend at the extreme low of the volatility range. This trend is highlighted in blue. It's interesting to note that, at this time, Best Buy stock has failed to trade above its 20-day moving average, even on an intraday basis.\nIn the past month, the highest Best Buy share price was $141.97, a 52-week high, in late November. This price is highlighted by the green balloon. Conversely, the lower share price during this time was $94.54 in mid-December, highlighted by the red balloon.\nTip\nThe Keltner Channel indicator displays a set of semi-parallel lines based on a 20-day simple moving average and an upper and lower line. Because the upper lines are drawn by adding a multiple of ATR to the average and the lower lines are drawn by subtracting a multiple of ATR from the average price, this channel indicator makes for an excellent visualization tool when charting historical volatility.\n Option Analysis \nRecent trading volumes of Best Buy options greatly favor calls over puts. On Tuesday, Dec. 21, over 8,000 calls were traded compared to 4,100 puts. This is nearly double the number of calls than puts, which, at first glance, appears bullish. However, trading volumes alone only tell one part of the story.\nAn analysis of a stock's open interest can provide greater context into the sentiment of option traders. The current open interest for Best Buy features 75,000 calls against 82,000 puts. While recent trading volumes are incredibly bullish, these open interest figures illustrate a more moderate view of Best Buy's share price from option traders. However, much like trading volumes, open interest figures require further analysis to provide deeper insights into option trader sentiment.\nFor Jan. 21, the next monthly option expiration date, there are a greater number of put options in the open interest than calls. The single option with the highest open interest is the $90 put with 4,400. This represents 7% downside to the current share price of Best Buy.\nConsidering at-the-money options and one strike in either direction up or down the option chain, there are more than 2.5-to-1 puts than calls in the open interest for Jan. 21. This is important to consider, as these strikes perhaps reflect more realistic price action based on current share prices rather than far out-of-the-money options, which may have numbers skewed by speculators and option sellers collecting premium. The current number, with far more puts than calls, expresses a bearish sentiment.\nWhile the open interest is slightly bearish in total, option open interest as a whole is noticeably down. Over the past five days, total open interest has decreased 34%. While the open interest of puts has decreased by 22%, the call open interest has declined by 43% over this time period. This means that, while fewer option traders are willing to hold Best Buy options, more traders are taking positions with put options than calls. This is reflected in the put/call ratio, which has risen 36% in the past five days.\nA key measure for option trader sentiment in open interest is implied volatility. For options expiring Jan. 21, implied volatility suggests that traders are selling calls and buying puts. That's because for call options, the open interest is rising while implied volatility is falling, suggesting that traders are selling more contracts on short positions in the option. Conversely, for put options, open interest is rising while implied volatility is also rising, indicating that traders are adding to long positions in the option.\nWhile considering implied volatility, it is helpful to understand a concept known as volatility skew. This skew can also be seen visually by the expanding volatility bands on the chart.\nThe chart below illustrates at-the-money options expiring Jan. 21. The green box represents the pricing that call option sellers are offering and it implies a 38% probability that Best Buy shares will close inside this range or higher by expiration. The red box illustrates the pricing for puts, with a 37% chance if prices go lower by expiration.\n\nThe Bottom Line \nOver the past month, Best Buy shares have fallen 29.6%. The share price decrease and current downward trend was kick started by a 12% single day earnings-based share decline. Option traders appear to be positioned for the Best Buy share price to continue to fall in the near term. That's because the Best Buy put option open interest percentage is declining less rapidly than the call option open interest percentage, and the put call ratio has recently risen an alarming amount.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1098,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691191771,"gmtCreate":1640143977626,"gmtModify":1640143978069,"author":{"id":"3573265010793105","authorId":"3573265010793105","name":"doubleDees","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c61dade65d42065972c6833062a92ed","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573265010793105","authorIdStr":"3573265010793105"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh no papá ","listText":"Oh no papá ","text":"Oh no papá","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691191771","repostId":"2193016659","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1072,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":693483116,"gmtCreate":1640061789434,"gmtModify":1640061789819,"author":{"id":"3573265010793105","authorId":"3573265010793105","name":"doubleDees","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c61dade65d42065972c6833062a92ed","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573265010793105","authorIdStr":"3573265010793105"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please help me to like this comment, thanks. The popular QQQ, which represents the largest companies in the Nasdaq Composite, closed Monday at 380.69, and is down 3.3% in the month to date but up 21.3% in 2021 thus far.\nvia Fundstrat Global\nMeanwhile, Newson wrote that the NY-FANG Composite index, along with the addition of Microsoft Corp., has neared \"'Make-or-Break' levels from a mild uptrend from Spring 2021 lows.\"\nNewton said he is expecting the downturn to provide opportunities for investors, despite technical indicators pointing to further selling in the coming days.\n\"Sentiment has turned quite negative near-term, and bearish sentiment combined with bullish seasonality looks to be an effective 1-2 combo to buy dips ahead of Christmas,\" he wrote.\nNewton said that a confluence of factors suggests that the atmosphere could improve by the end of the week, but cautioned that if trend lines are broken, \"one will need to hold out for some evidence of stabilization.\"\nFundstrat also remains bullish on the so-called Santa Claus Rally period, which is technically the final five trading days of a calendar year and the first two sessions in January.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1229,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":699797145,"gmtCreate":1639889746549,"gmtModify":1639889746972,"author":{"id":"3573265010793105","authorId":"3573265010793105","name":"doubleDees","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c61dade65d42065972c6833062a92ed","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573265010793105","authorIdStr":"3573265010793105"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like, thanks.","listText":"Please like, thanks.","text":"Please like, thanks.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/699797145","repostId":"2192035909","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1128,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":699502271,"gmtCreate":1639829849619,"gmtModify":1639829850011,"author":{"id":"3573265010793105","authorId":"3573265010793105","name":"doubleDees","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c61dade65d42065972c6833062a92ed","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573265010793105","authorIdStr":"3573265010793105"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like, thanks.","listText":"Please like, thanks.","text":"Please like, thanks.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/699502271","repostId":"1116106959","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1116106959","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1639785552,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1116106959?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-18 07:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street ends down after mostly negative week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1116106959","media":"Reuters","summary":" - Wall Street finished lower on Friday, weighed down by Big Tech as investors worried about the Omicron coronavirus variant and digested the Federal Reserve's decision to end its pandemic-era stimulus faster. All three main U.S. stock indexes ended with a decline for the week after the Fed on Wednesday signaled three quarter-percentage-point interest rate hikes by the end of 2022 to combat surging inflation.Nvidia dropped 2.1% and Alphabet lost 1.9%, both weighing on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. The S","content":"
(Reuters) - Wall Street finished lower on Friday, weighed down by Big Tech as investors worried about the Omicron coronavirus variant and digested the Federal Reserve's decision to end its pandemic-era stimulus faster.
\n
All three main U.S. stock indexes ended with a decline for the week after the Fed on Wednesday signaled three quarter-percentage-point interest rate hikes by the end of 2022 to combat surging inflation.
\n
Nvidia dropped 2.1% and Alphabet lost 1.9%, both weighing on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
\n
The S&P 500 growth index lost 0.7% and the value index declined 1.4%.
\n
All of the 11 major S&P 500 sector indexes fell, with financials leading the way down with a 2.3% drop. But it's now a memory handing out an expensive lesson ","content":"
The meme stock rally was fun while it lasted. But it's now a memory handing out an expensive lesson as it increasingly falls apart versus the S&P 500.
\n
A more than monthlong slide in meme stocks erased all aggregate gains by pounding online Reddit traders' favorites, like AMC Entertainment(AMC),GameStop(GME),Peloton Interactive(PTON) and the direct player Robinhood Markets(HOOD). Those are among the hardest hit, says an Investor's Business Daily analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence and MarketSmith. The analysis looks at the 25 most-popular stocks with meme traders plus those most highly shorted compiled by Solactive for the new Solactive Roundhill Meme Stock ETF.
\n
Game Over For Meme Stocks
\n
But now the selling has completely wiped out the aggregate gains from the entire phenomenon this year. And it continued on Monday. Former meme darling GameStop (GME), which kicked off the Reddit trading rage, dropped more than 13% Monday on concerns of the company's future.
\n
These 25 stocks, on average, are down 27% in just a month. And that adds up to a painful $80 billion loss on them in just four weeks. In comparison, the S&P 500 has been under pressure, too, but it's up in a month. It's the first time many of the speculators playing these risky stocks, many with no fundamentals, have seen losses.
\n
\"We have many investors who don't have real depth and experience in the markets right now and, using the analogy of going to a casino, the worst thing that can happen is that the first time you go, you win big,\" said Eben Burr, president of $2.2 billion in assets advisory Toews. \"Then you keep going back and may get reckless — you're not as skilled as you believe and the house eventually wins. Meme stocks have to be seen as a very speculative move.\"
\n
Assessing Brutal Meme Stock Damage
\n
Meme stock pain is reaching levels their fans haven't seen before.
\n
A custom market-cap weighted index of the 25 stocks topped out on Jan. 27. And since then it has collapsed more than 22%. Much of that pain has happened in just the last four weeks, with the index dropping roughly 20% in that time.
\n
Some of the individual stocks have done much more poorly.Robinhood is among the worst of them all, plunging 44% in just a month. That loss alone cost investors more than $13 billion in just a month.
\n
GameStop, too, is gobbling up speculators' quarters fast. The original meme stoc kis down 32% in a month, sucking more than $4.8 billion out of investors' portfolios. And it lost more than half its value from the meme stock high.
\n
What's Next For Meme Stocks Vs. The S&P 500?
\n
Fans of meme stocks might point out they're still up for the year. That's true. But they're lagging the S&P 500 now.
\n
Take theater chain AMC Entertainment. It's still up huge for the year and it's even up 16% from the meme peak. But in just one month shares are down more than 40% to 23.17. That's much worse than the S&P 500's 0.2% rise in that time.
\n
And that's the point. But it's now a memory handing out an expensive lesson as it increasingly falls apart versus the S&P 500.\nA more than monthlong slide in meme stocks erased all aggregate gains by pounding online Reddit traders' favorites, like AMC Entertainment(AMC),GameStop(GME),Peloton Interactive(PTON) and the direct player Robinhood Markets(HOOD). Those are among the hardest hit, says an Investor's Business Daily analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence and MarketSmith. The analysis looks at the 25 most-popular stocks with meme traders plus those most highly shorted compiled by Solactive for the new Solactive Roundhill Meme Stock ETF.\nGame Over For Meme Stocks\nBut now the selling has completely wiped out the aggregate gains from the entire phenomenon this year. And it continued on Monday. Former meme darling GameStop (GME), which kicked off the Reddit trading rage, dropped more than 13% Monday on concerns of the company's future.\nThese 25 stocks, on average, are down 27% in just a month. And that adds up to a painful $80 billion loss on them in just four weeks. In comparison, the S&P 500 has been under pressure, too, but it's up in a month. It's the first time many of the speculators playing these risky stocks, many with no fundamentals, have seen losses.\n\"We have many investors who don't have real depth and experience in the markets right now and, using the analogy of going to a casino, the worst thing that can happen is that the first time you go, you win big,\" said Eben Burr, president of $2.2 billion in assets advisory Toews. \"Then you keep going back and may get reckless — you're not as skilled as you believe and the house eventually wins. Meme stocks have to be seen as a very speculative move.\"\nAssessing Brutal Meme Stock Damage\nMeme stock pain is reaching levels their fans haven't seen before.\nA custom market-cap weighted index of the 25 stocks topped out on Jan. 27. And since then it has collapsed more than 22%. Much of that pain has happened in just the last four weeks, with the index dropping roughly 20% in that time.\nSome of the individual stocks have done much more poorly.Robinhood is among the worst of them all, plunging 44% in just a month. That loss alone cost investors more than $13 billion in just a month.\nGameStop, too, is gobbling up speculators' quarters fast. The original meme stoc kis down 32% in a month, sucking more than $4.8 billion out of investors' portfolios. And it lost more than half its value from the meme stock high.\nWhat's Next For Meme Stocks Vs. The S&P 500?\nFans of meme stocks might point out they're still up for the year. That's true. But they're lagging the S&P 500 now.\nTake theater chain AMC Entertainment. It's still up huge for the year and it's even up 16% from the meme peak. But in just one month shares are down more than 40% to 23.17. That's much worse than the S&P 500's 0.2% rise in that time.\nAnd that's the point. Meme stocks are now lagging the market, even if you include gains from the start of the year. The index of the 25 meme stocks is now flat for the year. Had you just bought the S&P 500, you'd be up much more than that — 25%. And that doesn't even include the S&P 500's 1.4% dividend yield. Investors generally do much better by following sound investing rules.\nNow that's a tough lesson to take.\nMeme Stocks Are Crashing\nAll but one of the 25 top meme stocks dropped in the past month\n\n\n\nCompany\nSymbol\n1-mo. % ch.\nMarket value change one month ($ millions)\n\n\n\n\nMarathon Digital\n(MARA)\n-51.2%\n-$3,977.8\n\n\nRiot Blockchain\n(RIOT)\n-44.9%\n-$1,400.1\n\n\nRobinhood Markets\n(HOOD)\n-44.2%\n-$13,376.8\n\n\nUpstart Holdings\n(UPST)\n-42.7%\n-$9,252.6\n\n\nAMC Entertainment\n(AMC)\n-42.1%\n-$8,649.3\n\n\nClover Health Investments\n(CLOV)\n-40.7%\n-$1,004.3\n\n\nSundial Growers\n(SNDL)\n-37.8%\n-$714.9\n\n\nContextLogic\n(WISH)\n-36.7%\n-$1,275.6\n\n\nSoFi Technologies\n(SOFI)\n-35.8%\n-$6,548.0\n\n\nTilray\n(TLRY)\n-35.6%\n-$2,039.9\n\n\nCassava Sciences\n(SAVA)\n-34.8%\n-$957.5\n\n\nGameStop\n(GME)\n-32.1%\n-$4,860.4\n\n\nfuboTV\n(FUBO)\n-30.0%\n-$1,062.8\n\n\nDraftKings\n(DKNG)\n-28.4%\n-$4,680.3\n\n\nBest Buy\n(BBY)\n-25.8%\n-$9,152.5\n\n\nBeyond Meat\n(BYND)\n-25.3%\n-$1,363.2\n\n\nVirgin Galactic\n(SPCE)\n-22.7%\n-$1,126.2\n\n\nPenn National Gaming\n(PENN)\n-17.9%\n-$1,766.1\n\n\nRush Street Interactive\n(RSI)\n-17.0%\n-$199.1\n\n\nPeloton Interactive\n(PTON)\n-16.7%\n-$1,370.1\n\n\nLucid Group\n(LCID)\n-10.4%\n-$6,302.4\n\n\nCleveland-Cliffs\n(CLF)\n-9.5%\n-$1,055.2\n\n\nDigital World Acquisition\n(DWAC)\n-7.2%\n-$171.7\n\n\nZIM Integrated Shipping\n(ZIM)\n-0.2%\n-$9.5\n\n\nRoblox\n(RBLX)\n3.7%\n$2,303.8\n\n\nSPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust\n(SPY)\n0.2%\n\n\n\nSources: IBD, S&P Global Market Intelligence","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":663,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":604835984,"gmtCreate":1639367433037,"gmtModify":1639367521255,"author":{"id":"3573265010793105","authorId":"3573265010793105","name":"doubleDees","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c61dade65d42065972c6833062a92ed","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573265010793105","authorIdStr":"3573265010793105"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like, thanks.","listText":"Please like, thanks.","text":"Please like, thanks.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/604835984","repostId":"1171271872","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1171271872","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1639348466,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1171271872?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-13 06:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Rivian,Adobe,FedEx,Lennar,Campbell Soup, and Other Stocks to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1171271872","media":"Barrons","summary":"The main event for investors this week will be the Federal Reserve’s rate-setting committee’s last meeting of 2021. Stocks famously crashed in October 1929, 1987 and, most recently, 2008.
\n
But the marketisn't always a terrifying place to be just before Halloween. In fact, stocks typically go up in October.
\n
According to data from Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial, October is just about in the middle of the pack: It has been the 7th best month for the S&P 500 since 1950 and the 4th best over the past 10 and 20 years.
\n
\"October is known for some spectacular crashes and many expect bad things to happen again this year,\" Detrick said in a report last week. \"But the truth is this month is simply misunderstood, as historically it is about an average month.\"
\n
And it could be better than average this October, because there are no potentially game-changing election results coming in November.
\n
Since 1999, the S&P 500 has gained 3.6% in odd-year Octobers and fallen 1.1% in even-numbered ones, corresponding to the US election schedule.
\n
\"It turns out stocks don't like politics much,\" Detrick said.
\n
Many risks remain but outlook still promising for stocks
\n
Of course DC headlines could still roil the market this year, albeit not because of an election.
\n
The debt ceiling debate has yet to be resolved, and Congress still hasn't passed President Joe Biden's infrastructure and social spending plans. Meanwhile Biden also must soon decide whether he wants to nominate Jerome Powell for a second term as Fed chairman or pick someone else.
\n
\"The fourth quarter — like the conclusion of sporting events or Broadway plays — is where the drama lies,\" Louis Navellier, chairman of Navellier & Associates, said in a report last week.
\n
That said, Navellier is hopeful the usual seasonal tailwinds for the markets and the broader economy will lift stocks this year.
\n
Stocks tend to enjoy not just solid gains in October, but also for the remainder of the fourth quarter. Consumer spending surges during the holiday shopping season and businesses often look to boost investments before annual budgets run out.
\n
With that in mind, some strategists think that investors will continue to focus on the positive when looking ahead to earnings for Q4 and 2022.
\n
Yes, worries remain about Covid-19, Fed policy, inflation, global shipping delays and numerous other economic warning signs.
\n
But although this could create more volatility than usual in October and the rest of the fourth quarter, few expect that these challenges will lead to another recession. So the path of least resistance for stocks is still upward.
\n
\"Virtually all of these problems are showing tangible signs toward resolution,\" Robert Teeter, managing director at Silvercrest Asset Management, said in a report Monday, \"and should not inflict any long-term damage to stock valuations.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Don't worry (too much) about an October market crash
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nDon't worry (too much) about an October market crash\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-06 10:14 GMT+8 CNN Business\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
New York (CNN Business) - October has often been a spooky month on Wall Street. The rally came despite concerns about the spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus and unease about the timetable for an eventual rollback of easy-money policies implemented by the Federal Reserve at the onset of the pandemic last year.
\n
On Monday, U.S. stock exchanges, including the Intercontinental Exchange Inc. -owned New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Inc.,will be closed, so don’t look for any action in individual stocks or indexes including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 or Nasdaq Composite indexes.
\n
The S&P 500 has already notched 54 record closing highs in 2021 and was looking for its 55th on Friday, while the Nasdaq Composite was on track to book its 35th all-time high of the year. The Dow stood less than a percentage point from its Aug. 16 record, mid-afternoon Friday.
\n
Sifma, the securities-industry trade group for fixed-income, also has recommended the bond market close on Labor Day, including trading in the 10-year Treasury note, which was yielding around 1.33% after the U.S. August jobs report came in weaker than expected.
\n
However, the Labor Department’s employment report, which showed that 235,000 jobs were created in August, far below expectations for more than 700,000, failed to dull expectations among sovereign debt investors for a near-term announcement of tapering of the Fed’s $120 billion in monthly purchases in Treasurys and mortgage-backed securities.
\n
Trading in most commodity futures, including Nymex crude-oil and Comex gold,on U.S. exchanges will also be halted Monday.
\n
Is there any significance to the holiday for average investors, besides the time off in the U.S. and the barbecues?
\n
Probably not.
\n
But the May Memorial Day to September Labor Day period in recent years has proven a bullish stretch one for investors, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Dow, for example, is up by about 2% over that period and averages a gain of 1.3%, producing a winning record 65% of the time. The Dow is currently enjoying a win streak, over the past six Memorial Day/Labor Day periods, representing the longest win streak since 1989.
