Some investors dove in because it was a short-squeeze stock. Others bought it for its still-strong growth prospects. But in the past few weeks, SKLZ stock has pulled back once again.
\n
The latest round of “meme stock madness” has dissipated, and Reddit traders have bailed out of their Skillz shares. Concerns about possible interest rate hikes have also led to bearishness around growth stocks. Both of these factors played a role in knocking SKLZ stock back down to its prior price levels.
\n
Negative sentiment for Skillz may be on the rise. Yet you still may want to buy it ahead of its next quarterly earnings, which arescheduled to releaseafter the market closes on Aug 3. Just like last quarter, losses could come in higher than expected. But if its sales come in above forecast and management raises 2021 guidance once again, it may be enough to renew investors’ enthusiasm for SKLZ stock.
\n
Admittedly, its valuation is still a concern. Like other growth stocks, worries about rising rates could give way to multiple contraction. But if you’re confident in its “story,” buying Skillz stock at today’s price may be a solid “buy the dip” situation.
\n
SKLZ Stock and Its Upcoming Earnings Release
\n
As Skillz is not expected to be profitable until it scales up, earnings-per-share (EPS) is not a focus with next week’s earnings release. Instead, investors should look for revenue numbers and any updates to its 2021 guidance.
\n
Will it meet (or beat) analyst revenue consensus for the quarter ending June 30, 2021? Average revenue estimates for last quarter currently stand at$88.2 million. AsInvestorPlace’sMark Hake discussed July 22, it beat revenue estimates andupped its full-year guidancelast quarter.
\n
Some may anticipate this happening again. But based on the performance of SKLZ stock over the past month, that’s not the majority opinion.
\n
In July, shares pulled back more than 30%. Yet this lack of enthusiasm could be a positive for investors bullish on SKLZ stock. Possibly oversold at $14 per share, it could bounce back to $20 per share if its latest results exceed expectations.
\n
On the other hand, if the company disappoints for the quarter, the stock could get hammered once again. Its valuation is also a risk, so solid results and upgraded guidance may not be enough to keep shares steady, let alone raise them to previous highs.
\n
Caution May Be Needed Even With Strong Results
\n
Obviously, a revenue miss for this richly-priced stock (shares currently trade for 20.4x estimated 2021 sales) would mean big declines ahead. So would any change to the company’s guidance. But that’s not to say it’s all smooth sailing from here if the company beats on sales and positively revises its 2021 forecast.
\n
Factors that are not company-specific could have a negative impact on the price of SKLZ stock. The first that comes to mind is a possible hike in interest rates. How far could shares sink if multiple contraction continues for growth stocks?
\n
More mature names in the mobile games space, likeZynga(NASDAQ:ZNGA), trade at price-to-sales (P/S) ratios in the mid-single digits. Therefore, Skillz’s valuation could fall to high-single digits and still reflect the company’s higher-than-average growth. The issue is that a contraction like this implies a possible 50% in downside from today’s prices.
\n
Putting it simply, this stock could see a big move higher if its latest earnings beat expectations, but a multiple contraction could have an outsized effect on it as well.
\n
SKLZ Stock May Be Worth the Risk
\n
InvestorPlace’sLuke Lango haslaid out the bull casefor SKLZ stock, and his argument is compelling. Some investors dove in because it was a short-squeeze stock. Others bought it for its still-strong growth prospects. But in the past few weeks, SKLZ stock has pulled back once again.\nThe latest round of “meme stock madness” has dissipated, and Reddit traders have bailed out of their Skillz shares. Concerns about possible interest rate hikes have also led to bearishness around growth stocks. Both of these factors played a role in knocking SKLZ stock back down to its prior price levels.\nNegative sentiment for Skillz may be on the rise. Yet you still may want to buy it ahead of its next quarterly earnings, which arescheduled to releaseafter the market closes on Aug 3. Just like last quarter, losses could come in higher than expected. But if its sales come in above forecast and management raises 2021 guidance once again, it may be enough to renew investors’ enthusiasm for SKLZ stock.\nAdmittedly, its valuation is still a concern. Like other growth stocks, worries about rising rates could give way to multiple contraction. But if you’re confident in its “story,” buying Skillz stock at today’s price may be a solid “buy the dip” situation.\nSKLZ Stock and Its Upcoming Earnings Release\nAs Skillz is not expected to be profitable until it scales up, earnings-per-share (EPS) is not a focus with next week’s earnings release. Instead, investors should look for revenue numbers and any updates to its 2021 guidance.\nWill it meet (or beat) analyst revenue consensus for the quarter ending June 30, 2021? Average revenue estimates for last quarter currently stand at$88.2 million. AsInvestorPlace’sMark Hake discussed July 22, it beat revenue estimates andupped its full-year guidancelast quarter.\nSome may anticipate this happening again. But based on the performance of SKLZ stock over the past month, that’s not the majority opinion.\nIn July, shares pulled back more than 30%. Yet this lack of enthusiasm could be a positive for investors bullish on SKLZ stock. Possibly oversold at $14 per share, it could bounce back to $20 per share if its latest results exceed expectations.\nOn the other hand, if the company disappoints for the quarter, the stock could get hammered once again. Its valuation is also a risk, so solid results and upgraded guidance may not be enough to keep shares steady, let alone raise them to previous highs.\nCaution May Be Needed Even With Strong Results\nObviously, a revenue miss for this richly-priced stock (shares currently trade for 20.4x estimated 2021 sales) would mean big declines ahead. So would any change to the company’s guidance. But that’s not to say it’s all smooth sailing from here if the company beats on sales and positively revises its 2021 forecast.\nFactors that are not company-specific could have a negative impact on the price of SKLZ stock. The first that comes to mind is a possible hike in interest rates. How far could shares sink if multiple contraction continues for growth stocks?\nMore mature names in the mobile games space, likeZynga(NASDAQ:ZNGA), trade at price-to-sales (P/S) ratios in the mid-single digits. Therefore, Skillz’s valuation could fall to high-single digits and still reflect the company’s higher-than-average growth. The issue is that a contraction like this implies a possible 50% in downside from today’s prices.\nPutting it simply, this stock could see a big move higher if its latest earnings beat expectations, but a multiple contraction could have an outsized effect on it as well.\nSKLZ Stock May Be Worth the Risk\nInvestorPlace’sLuke Lango haslaid out the bull casefor SKLZ stock, and his argument is compelling. The company’s mobile gaming platform stands to gain massively if its tournament-based revenue model replaces traditional advertising-based models.\nNext week’s earnings results could remind investors, who have grown more bearish on Skillz in recent weeks, that high growth remains on the menu. This could mean a rapid move back to $20 or more in the short term.\nGranted, its high valuation remains a risk. Shares could fall 50% and still trade at a premium valuation. But if you believe these concerns are overblown and positive sentiment will return, buying SKLZ stock today may be worth it.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SKLZ":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":97,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":803254075,"gmtCreate":1627443777197,"gmtModify":1631892000312,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Fk terrence","listText":"Fk terrence","text":"Fk terrence","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f896e059e269f4d9c934f5aebe6819cb","width":"750","height":"2280"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/803254075","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":85,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":809326333,"gmtCreate":1627349122522,"gmtModify":1631892000323,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Fak terrennce","listText":"Fak terrennce","text":"Fak terrennce","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/809326333","repostId":"2154969984","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2154969984","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627347420,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2154969984?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-27 08:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Low on Cash, Lordstown Motors (RIDE) Gets a Lifeline as it Secures up to $400M in Purchase Agreement with YA","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2154969984","media":"StreetInsider","summary":"Lordstown Motors (NASDAQ: RIDE) announced on Monday that hedge fund Yorkville Advisors (YA) has agre","content":"

\n
Lordstown Motors (NASDAQ: RIDE) announced on Monday that hedge fund Yorkville Advisors (YA) has agreed to purchase up to $400 million of the company’s shares. Inflation fears have eased, economic indicators are strengthening and the Federal Reserve remains accommodative.
\n
But look past the sunshine and lollipops, and you’ll find a growing sense of defensiveness.
\n
Investors are taking risk off the table as the fast-spreading delta variant of the coronavirus causes fresh outbreaks in many parts of the world. Airline and cruise stocks are being dumped while there’s a renewed embrace of the stay-at-home trade. Businesses’ hiring woes have increased concerns over rising wages, prompting a pivot toward pricing power. Sectors seen as hardy growers, like technology, are back on top.
\n
There are even indications that the S&P 500’s 90% rally from the pandemic bottom could be due for a pause, since fewer stocks are participating in the latest leg up. This has helped put a halt to massive equity inflows and driven a sharp demand for government bonds.
\n
“What the market is starting to recognize is that all the good news cannot be good in every single way,” Daniel Skelly, head of market research and strategy at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, said in an interview on Bloomberg TV and Radio. “There is a realization that earnings revisions are starting to plateau and roll over.”
\n
The S&P 500 advanced for a fifth week in six, closing above 4,300 for the first time in history. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index outperformed, rounding out seven straight weekly gains, the longest streak since November 2019. Economically sensitive shares lagged and the Russell 2000 of smaller companies fell.
\n

\n
The contrast between tech and small-caps is the latest example of investors quickly adjusting their positions in anticipation of stronger headwinds. In this playbook, safety is the name of the game.
\n
Exchange-traded funds focusing on U.S. stocks lost almost $6 billion in the week through Thursday, a departure from the first few months of the year, when they lured more than $200 billion of fresh money, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Meanwhile, demand for safe havens spurred the second-highest monthly inflows to the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (ticker TLT).
\n
Professional speculators also started to rein in risk. In the final days of June, hedge funds reduced their long positions while covering their shorts. Combined, their risk-off activity reached the highest level since late January, prime broker data compiled by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. show. Still, with net leverage sitting higher than 90% of the time over the past year, positioning is hardly bearish.
\n
While the list of worries is long, there is no shortage of reasons to stay invested. Growth may be peaking, but corporate earnings are still expected to expand through at least 2023. Fed policy makers have shown a hawkish tilt, yet say they’re a long way from raising interest rates.
\n
To Liz Ann Sonders, Charles Schwab Corp.’s chief investment strategist, the market outlook remains murky.
\n
“Did the pandemic pause the cycle that was in play in the economy and the market up until February last year, or did it end one cycle and start a new one?” Sonders said in an interview on Bloomberg TV. “We’ll start to get answers to that in the next few months when we move past the base effects in terms of economic data and inflation data.”
\n

\n
Investors are not waiting to find out. With inflation rising, companies seen as better equipped to pass on costs to customers without hurting their business are in vogue. Inflation fears have eased, economic indicators are strengthening and the Federal Reserve remains accommodative.\nBut look past the sunshine and lollipops, and you’ll find a growing sense of defensiveness.\nInvestors are taking risk off the table as the fast-spreading delta variant of the coronavirus causes fresh outbreaks in many parts of the world. Airline and cruise stocks are being dumped while there’s a renewed embrace of the stay-at-home trade. Businesses’ hiring woes have increased concerns over rising wages, prompting a pivot toward pricing power. Sectors seen as hardy growers, like technology, are back on top.\nThere are even indications that the S&P 500’s 90% rally from the pandemic bottom could be due for a pause, since fewer stocks are participating in the latest leg up. This has helped put a halt to massive equity inflows and driven a sharp demand for government bonds.\n“What the market is starting to recognize is that all the good news cannot be good in every single way,” Daniel Skelly, head of market research and strategy at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, said in an interview on Bloomberg TV and Radio. “There is a realization that earnings revisions are starting to plateau and roll over.”\nThe S&P 500 advanced for a fifth week in six, closing above 4,300 for the first time in history. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index outperformed, rounding out seven straight weekly gains, the longest streak since November 2019. Economically sensitive shares lagged and the Russell 2000 of smaller companies fell.\n\nThe contrast between tech and small-caps is the latest example of investors quickly adjusting their positions in anticipation of stronger headwinds. In this playbook, safety is the name of the game.\nExchange-traded funds focusing on U.S. stocks lost almost $6 billion in the week through Thursday, a departure from the first few months of the year, when they lured more than $200 billion of fresh money, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Meanwhile, demand for safe havens spurred the second-highest monthly inflows to the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (ticker TLT).\nProfessional speculators also started to rein in risk. In the final days of June, hedge funds reduced their long positions while covering their shorts. Combined, their risk-off activity reached the highest level since late January, prime broker data compiled by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. show. Still, with net leverage sitting higher than 90% of the time over the past year, positioning is hardly bearish.\nWhile the list of worries is long, there is no shortage of reasons to stay invested. Growth may be peaking, but corporate earnings are still expected to expand through at least 2023. Fed policy makers have shown a hawkish tilt, yet say they’re a long way from raising interest rates.\nTo Liz Ann Sonders, Charles Schwab Corp.’s chief investment strategist, the market outlook remains murky.\n“Did the pandemic pause the cycle that was in play in the economy and the market up until February last year, or did it end one cycle and start a new one?” Sonders said in an interview on Bloomberg TV. “We’ll start to get answers to that in the next few months when we move past the base effects in terms of economic data and inflation data.”\n\nInvestors are not waiting to find out. With inflation rising, companies seen as better equipped to pass on costs to customers without hurting their business are in vogue. Their stocks, as tracked by Goldman, last month beat a cohort with low pricing power by the most since March 2020, the start of this bull market.\nMeanwhile, brooding over a potential economic slowdown sparked a rotation back to growth stocks out of value, a style dominated by cyclical shares. The Russell 1000 Growth Index outperformed its value counterpart in June by the most in two decades.\nThe reopening trade that’s frolicked since November’s vaccine rollout has been quieted as the delta variant spreads from Europe to Asia. A Goldman basket of stocks poised to benefit from a return to normal economic activity just suffered its worst month since last July relative to the stay-at-home basket.\n“People are really nervous about anything that could see a resurgence in cases or a return to some of the shutdowns,” said Chris Gaffney, president of world markets at TIAA Bank. “It’s just a reminder that this Covid is still out there and could raise its head again.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":363,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":152284483,"gmtCreate":1625297423942,"gmtModify":1631893936886,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Aw aw salakau","listText":"Aw aw salakau","text":"Aw aw salakau","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9a076744f25aa07545a8e72207afc3b6","width":"750","height":"2216"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/152284483","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":50,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":151770283,"gmtCreate":1625109862942,"gmtModify":1631893936893,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy n hold long term","listText":"Buy n hold long term","text":"Buy n hold long term","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/151770283","repostId":"1198389317","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":180,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":189825218,"gmtCreate":1623251993634,"gmtModify":1634035294358,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noice","listText":"Noice","text":"Noice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/189825218","repostId":"1158809705","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1158809705","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623248940,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1158809705?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-09 22:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Biden Revokes TikTok, WeChat Bans and Orders Security Review","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1158809705","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"President Joe Biden is revoking Trump-era bans on the Chinese-owned apps TikTok and WeChat on Wednes","content":"
President Joe Biden is revoking Trump-era bans on the Chinese-owned apps TikTok and WeChat on Wednesday, and instead will review software applications from foreign adversaries that could pose a risk to Americans’ sensitive data, senior administration officials said.
\n
Biden, in an executive order, is directing Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to evaluate the apps and block those that pose a security risk. Semiconductors -- the basic yet incredibly sophisticated components in most every modern device -- took centerstage in a 250-page White House report, which highlighted Beijing’s “ultimate goal of cyber sovereignty and establishing first-mover advantage.”
\n
The U.S. Senate expressed bipartisan support by passing a bill offering $52 billion to bolster domestic chip manufacturing the same day. That’s aimed at reassuring industry leaders like Intel Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. as they consider expanding investments in production capacity in the country. It’s a hefty pledge, but the money will go fast in an era where a single advanced wafer fab runs more than $10 billion.
\n
China has made technology advances a major plank of its 14th five-year plan, with President Xi Jinping pledging $1.4 trillion over six years to secure a lead in sectors like chips, artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. South Korean companies like Samsung and SK Hynix Inc. are committing $450 billion over a decade on chip research and expansion, while TSMC alone has earmarked $100 billion over the next three years.
\n
“$50 billion is a great start but this is an expensive industry with heavy levels of subsidies being proposed across multiple geographies,” said Anne Hoecker, a partner at Bain Capital. The investment “provides more assurance for semi manufacturers to make large, multi-year investments.”
\n
Biden is demonstrating a willingness to break with the laissez-faire traditions of the U.S., calculating the semiconductor industry merits a different approach given the deep government involvement in other countries. He has powerful allies in his corner, in nations that command leads in different sectors of the giant global chipmaking apparatus.
\n
Among the goals outlined in Tuesday’s report is an effort to entice more private investment from abroad and leverage U.S. diplomatic muscle. TSMC and Samsung are currently in talks to secure vital incentives to build advanced chip plants in the U.S., which would instantly elevate both U.S. semiconductor know-how and capacity.
\n
The White House also called for effective multilateral export controls that would “protect U.S. national security interests by limiting advanced semiconductor capabilities in countries of concern.”
\n
The Netherlands is home to ASML Holding NV, which enjoys a virtual monopoly over the market for advanced extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment -- essential in making the most advanced 5-nanometer chips and beyond. It’s been unable to ship any EUV systems to China as the Dutch government hasn’t renewed its export licenses for Chinese customers. Meanwhile, Japan’s Tokyo Electron Ltd. and Nikon Corp. supply sophisticated gear to first-tier chipmakers such as Intel and also Chinese companies.
\n
Biden’s plan is in part a reflection of a growing concern globally. The world’s heavy dependence on a handful of crucial Asian-based chip suppliers like TSMC was exposed this year after a global supply crisis idled factories at several U.S. automakers, threatening to cut $110 billion in sales.
\n
China’s rising threat is the other long-term danger. The country remains at least several generations behind Taiwan and the U.S. in chip design sophistication. But China’s track record of being the world’s factory floor and vast reams of data could give it a leg up in certain pivotal segments, such as the labor-intensive but vital work of assembling and packaging semiconductors, or the younger field of AI-enabled chips.
\n
In a sign of the urgency of that effort, the nation’s top semiconductor executives and senior policy makers converged on Nanjing this week for the three-day World Semiconductor Conference to brainstorm future approaches and cement alliances.
\n
Advanced chip packaging offers China a chance to push performance by combining a number of chips in one package, but it’s ultimately not a replacement for fundamental semiconductor development, Bain’s Hoecker said.
\n
“China has been chasing the rest of the world over the past decade. But as the performance of chips increases significantly slower today than in previous years, it’s for sure that China will be able to close the gap with the leaders,” said Wu Hanming, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a state-backed research institute that houses elite scientists.
\n
In the short term, Biden’s blueprint promises a shot in the arm. Semiconductors -- the basic yet incredibly sophisticated components in most every modern device -- took centerstage in a 250-page White House report, which highlighted Beijing’s “ultimate goal of cyber sovereignty and establishing first-mover advantage.”\nThe U.S. It’s a hefty pledge, but the money will go fast in an era where a single advanced wafer fab runs more than $10 billion.\nChina has made technology advances a major plank of its 14th five-year plan, with President Xi Jinping pledging $1.4 trillion over six years to secure a lead in sectors like chips, artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. South Korean companies like Samsung and SK Hynix Inc. are committing $450 billion over a decade on chip research and expansion, while TSMC alone has earmarked $100 billion over the next three years.\n“$50 billion is a great start but this is an expensive industry with heavy levels of subsidies being proposed across multiple geographies,” said Anne Hoecker, a partner at Bain Capital. The investment “provides more assurance for semi manufacturers to make large, multi-year investments.”\nBiden is demonstrating a willingness to break with the laissez-faire traditions of the U.S., calculating the semiconductor industry merits a different approach given the deep government involvement in other countries. He has powerful allies in his corner, in nations that command leads in different sectors of the giant global chipmaking apparatus.\nAmong the goals outlined in Tuesday’s report is an effort to entice more private investment from abroad and leverage U.S. diplomatic muscle. TSMC and Samsung are currently in talks to secure vital incentives to build advanced chip plants in the U.S., which would instantly elevate both U.S. semiconductor know-how and capacity.\nThe White House also called for effective multilateral export controls that would “protect U.S. national security interests by limiting advanced semiconductor capabilities in countries of concern.”\nThe Netherlands is home to ASML Holding NV, which enjoys a virtual monopoly over the market for advanced extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment -- essential in making the most advanced 5-nanometer chips and beyond. It’s been unable to ship any EUV systems to China as the Dutch government hasn’t renewed its export licenses for Chinese customers. Meanwhile, Japan’s Tokyo Electron Ltd. and Nikon Corp. supply sophisticated gear to first-tier chipmakers such as Intel and also Chinese companies.\nBiden’s plan is in part a reflection of a growing concern globally. The world’s heavy dependence on a handful of crucial Asian-based chip suppliers like TSMC was exposed this year after a global supply crisis idled factories at several U.S. automakers, threatening to cut $110 billion in sales.\nChina’s rising threat is the other long-term danger. The country remains at least several generations behind Taiwan and the U.S. in chip design sophistication. But China’s track record of being the world’s factory floor and vast reams of data could give it a leg up in certain pivotal segments, such as the labor-intensive but vital work of assembling and packaging semiconductors, or the younger field of AI-enabled chips.\nIn a sign of the urgency of that effort, the nation’s top semiconductor executives and senior policy makers converged on Nanjing this week for the three-day World Semiconductor Conference to brainstorm future approaches and cement alliances.\nAdvanced chip packaging offers China a chance to push performance by combining a number of chips in one package, but it’s ultimately not a replacement for fundamental semiconductor development, Bain’s Hoecker said.\n“China has been chasing the rest of the world over the past decade. But as the performance of chips increases significantly slower today than in previous years, it’s for sure that China will be able to close the gap with the leaders,” said Wu Hanming, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a state-backed research institute that houses elite scientists.\nIn the short term, Biden’s blueprint promises a shot in the arm. A $50 billion federal program to incentivize domestic semiconductor manufacturing would add $24.6 billion annually to the U.S. economy, the Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics estimate. It would generate 280,000 permanent jobs, of which 42,000 would be employed in the semiconductor industry directly.\n“The U.S. semiconductor goal is simpler than China’s. It only needs to reshore chip manufacturing, and is already well on the path to doing so,” said Dan Wang, technology analyst at Gavekal Dragonomics. “China’s challenge is to master not only the manufacturing of chips, but also invent the equipment -- which are some of the most complex instruments in the world -- to produce them.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"ASML":0.9,"CAAS":0.9,"INTC":0.9,"TSM":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":373031472,"gmtCreate":1618801040096,"gmtModify":1634290829202,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NASDAQ-100 Index ETF(QQQ)$Stacked","listText":"$NASDAQ-100 Index ETF(QQQ)$Stacked","text":"$NASDAQ-100 Index ETF(QQQ)$Stacked","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f056709d1dca85e935299414d91c41cf","width":"828","height":"1434"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/373031472","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":409,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":373031637,"gmtCreate":1618801017629,"gmtModify":1634290829565,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SEA LTD(SE)$yeeeet","listText":"$SEA LTD(SE)$yeeeet","text":"$SEA LTD(SE)$yeeeet","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/91450a7d3232a1f36ed9a88adc4df47f","width":"828","height":"1434"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/373031637","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":216,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":341135032,"gmtCreate":1617791077326,"gmtModify":1631888985593,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ARK Next Generation Internet ETF(ARKW)$anotha one to the moon","listText":"$ARK Next Generation Internet ETF(ARKW)$anotha one to the moon","text":"$ARK Next Generation Internet ETF(ARKW)$anotha one to the moon","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1806715d3c7ced9123c3f40bc639af23","width":"828","height":"1434"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/341135032","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":422,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":343624202,"gmtCreate":1617715161606,"gmtModify":1634296970552,"author":{"id":"3575348507224102","authorId":"3575348507224102","name":"Cheahmanda","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85933c7123d4b95f87fbba0cd7951e7f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575348507224102","authorIdStr":"3575348507224102"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yeet","listText":"Yeet","text":"Yeet","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/343624202","repostId":"1182647190","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1182647190","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617714552,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1182647190?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-06 21:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The SPAC Bust Has Created Bargains for Investors. How to Play it.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1182647190","media":"Barrons","summary":"The hottest market in history for special-purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, has slowed down m","content":"
The hottest market in history for special-purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, has slowed down markedly in recent weeks. That’s being felt both in the relative dearth of new SPACs filing to go public and in the stock-price performance of already listed SPACs. The pullback has opened up numerous arbitrage opportunities for yield-seeking investors.

SPACs list on a stock exchange in an initial public offering just like any other company. However, the so-called blank-check companies don’t have any business operations when they list. SPACs are just publicly traded cash shells with backers—called sponsors—responsible for identifying and negotiatinga merger with a private operating company, usually within two years. Cash raised in the IPO sits in a trust earning interest.

Once the companies merge, the operating company takes over the SPAC’s stock-market listing—the ticker symbol usually changes—and puts the SPAC’s cash toward investing in the business, buying out existing investors, or other uses. SPAC shareholders and sponsors both get a stake in the combined company.

SPACs exploded onto the scene in 2020 after spending more than two decades asrelatively obscure vehicles with less-than-stellar performance. Nearly 250 SPACs raised some $83 billion in IPO proceeds last year, according to SPAC Insider, with another 298 raising $97 billion just since the start of 2021. More credible sponsors, rock-bottom interest rates, and the market’s insatiable appetite for new public companies have fueled the SPAC boom.

Companies including QuantumScape (ticker: QS),Playboy(PLBY),Utz(UTZ), and DraftKings(DKNG) have all taken the SPAC route to go public over the past year. Those deals have beenhits with investors, and SPAC shareholders have earned a multiple on their investments. But plenty of other recently completed SPAC deals—such as MultiPlan(MPLN),Clover Health(CLOV), or United Wholesale Mortgage(UWMC)—have flopped.

Betting that a SPAC’s sponsors will complete a well-received merger is an inherently speculative exercise. It requires investors to put their faith into the team’s connections, negotiating skills, and ability to judge the prospects of a potential target business. The frothy SPAC market for most of the past year has been happy to take that bet, with the vast majority of SPACs trading at a premium to their trust values—until a few weeks ago.

The average SPAC’s market pricepremium to its trust valuehit a high of 26.9% in early March, according to data from theAccelerate Arbitrage Fund’s(ARB.Canada) Julian Klymochko. But just as rising bond yields have deflated valuations in many growth stocks and more speculative companies, they’ve helped prompt a correction in the SPAC market. The average SPAC premium had declined to about 3.5% by the end of March.

Numerous SPAC shares now trade for less than their per-share trust value. That opens up a much simpler and less speculative arbitrage strategy for investors in the sector thanbetting on deal makers’ abilityto close a deal with an attractive target company. Arbitrage investors swoop in when the price of an asset temporarily diverges from its underlying value and pocket that difference. This trade is similar to the arbitrage strategy employed by investors in closed-end funds, which involves buying or selling when the market price diverges from the net asset value per share.

That’s applicable to SPACs thanks to a unique right that their investors have: At the time of a SPAC’s merger, shareholders can redeem their stock for a proportionate share of the SPAC’s trust cash instead of participating in the deal. A SPAC that reaches its deadline without completing a merger automatically liquidates and returns its trust cash to shareholders.

Take Spartacus Acquisition(TMTS), a technology, media, and telecom-focused SPAC that raised $200 million in an IPO last October and a deadline 18 months later on April 20, 2022. The SPAC’s stock traded around $9.90 on Monday, versus a trust value per share of $10.15,according to its IPO prospectus.

Investors can effectively buy $10.15 worth of cash for $9.90, and still have the potential upside of a well-received deal if Spartacus’ sponsors deliver. In the case of a dud, investors can choose to redeem and get the $10.15 trust value plus whatever interest is earned meanwhile. That’s a guaranteed minimum yield of 2.5% to be received between now and the SPAC’s deadline about a year from now. Compare that to the 0.06% yield on the U.S. 1 Year Treasury bill.

Here are 20 SPACs that were trading at meaningful discounts to their trust values on Monday.

SPAC Arbitrage Opportunities

SPAC

Ticker

Recent Price

Est. That’s being felt both in the relative dearth of new SPACs filing to go public and in the stock-price performance of already listed SPACs. The pullback has opened up numerous arbitrage opportunities for yield-seeking investors.SPACs list on a stock exchange in an initial public offering just like any other company. However, the so-called blank-check companies don’t have any business operations when they list. SPACs are just publicly traded cash shells with backers—called sponsors—responsible for identifying and negotiatinga merger with a private operating company, usually within two years. Cash raised in the IPO sits in a trust earning interest.Once the companies merge, the operating company takes over the SPAC’s stock-market listing—the ticker symbol usually changes—and puts the SPAC’s cash toward investing in the business, buying out existing investors, or other uses. SPAC shareholders and sponsors both get a stake in the combined company.SPACs exploded onto the scene in 2020 after spending more than two decades asrelatively obscure vehicles with less-than-stellar performance. Nearly 250 SPACs raised some $83 billion in IPO proceeds last year, according to SPAC Insider, with another 298 raising $97 billion just since the start of 2021. More credible sponsors, rock-bottom interest rates, and the market’s insatiable appetite for new public companies have fueled the SPAC boom.Companies including QuantumScape (ticker: QS),Playboy(PLBY),Utz(UTZ), and DraftKings(DKNG) have all taken the SPAC route to go public over the past year. Those deals have beenhits with investors, and SPAC shareholders have earned a multiple on their investments. But plenty of other recently completed SPAC deals—such as MultiPlan(MPLN),Clover Health(CLOV), or United Wholesale Mortgage(UWMC)—have flopped.Betting that a SPAC’s sponsors will complete a well-received merger is an inherently speculative exercise. It requires investors to put their faith into the team’s connections, negotiating skills, and ability to judge the prospects of a potential target business. The frothy SPAC market for most of the past year has been happy to take that bet, with the vast majority of SPACs trading at a premium to their trust values—until a few weeks ago.The average SPAC’s market pricepremium to its trust valuehit a high of 26.9% in early March, according to data from theAccelerate Arbitrage Fund’s(ARB.Canada) Julian Klymochko. But just as rising bond yields have deflated valuations in many growth stocks and more speculative companies, they’ve helped prompt a correction in the SPAC market. The average SPAC premium had declined to about 3.5% by the end of March.Numerous SPAC shares now trade for less than their per-share trust value. A SPAC that reaches its deadline without completing a merger automatically liquidates and returns its trust cash to shareholders.Take Spartacus Acquisition(TMTS), a technology, media, and telecom-focused SPAC that raised $200 million in an IPO last October and a deadline 18 months later on April 20, 2022. The SPAC’s stock traded around $9.90 on Monday, versus a trust value per share of $10.15,according to its IPO prospectus.Investors can effectively buy $10.15 worth of cash for $9.90, and still have the potential upside of a well-received deal if Spartacus’ sponsors deliver. Here are 20 SPACs that were trading at meaningful discounts to their trust values on Monday.SPAC Arbitrage OpportunitiesSPACTickerRecent PriceEst.
