Tesla boosted its performance by cutting features it said were unused or unneeded and raising U.S. vehicle prices.
\n
Shares of the world’s most valuable automaker rose 1.5% in extended trade.
\n
In a call with investors and analysts, Tesla executives said that volume production growth will depend on parts availability, and Musk cautioned the shortage of semiconductors will continue.
\n
“The global chip shortage situation remains quite serious,” Musk said.
\n
Still, Musk said Tesla expects to launch production this year of the Model Y SUV at factories under construction in Texas and Germany. He said the company expects battery cell suppliers to double production next year.
\n
Despite the pandemic and the supply chain crisis, Tesla posted record deliveries during the quarter, thanks to sales of cheaper models including Model 3 sedans and Model Ys.
\n
The carmaker, led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, said revenue jumped to $11.96 billion from $6.04 billion a year earlier, when its California factory was shut down for more than six weeks due to local lockdown orders to fight the pandemic.
\n
Analysts had expected revenue of about $11.3 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.
\n
Excluding items, Tesla posted a profit of $1.45 per share, easily topping analyst expectations for a profit of 98 cents per share.
\n
Tesla said operating income rose with volume growth and cost reduction, which offset higher supply chain costs, lower regulatory credit revenue and other items including $23 million in losses on investment in cryptocurrency bitcoin.
\n
Tesla’s profitability has often relied on selling regulatory credits to other automakers, but in the second quarter, Tesla was profitable without these credits for the first time since the end of 2019. Tesla boosted its performance by cutting features it said were unused or unneeded and raising U.S. vehicle prices.\nShares of the world’s most valuable automaker rose 1.5% in extended trade.\nIn a call with investors and analysts, Tesla executives said that volume production growth will depend on parts availability, and Musk cautioned the shortage of semiconductors will continue.\n“The global chip shortage situation remains quite serious,” Musk said.\nStill, Musk said Tesla expects to launch production this year of the Model Y SUV at factories under construction in Texas and Germany. He said the company expects battery cell suppliers to double production next year.\nDespite the pandemic and the supply chain crisis, Tesla posted record deliveries during the quarter, thanks to sales of cheaper models including Model 3 sedans and Model Ys.\nThe carmaker, led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, said revenue jumped to $11.96 billion from $6.04 billion a year earlier, when its California factory was shut down for more than six weeks due to local lockdown orders to fight the pandemic.\nAnalysts had expected revenue of about $11.3 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.\nExcluding items, Tesla posted a profit of $1.45 per share, easily topping analyst expectations for a profit of 98 cents per share.\nTesla said operating income rose with volume growth and cost reduction, which offset higher supply chain costs, lower regulatory credit revenue and other items including $23 million in losses on investment in cryptocurrency bitcoin.\nTesla’s profitability has often relied on selling regulatory credits to other automakers, but in the second quarter, Tesla was profitable without these credits for the first time since the end of 2019. Its GAAP net income was $1.14 billion in the second quarter. Revenue from the credits only totaled $354 million.\n“Tesla impressed with its numbers, as most of its revenue came from vehicle sales,” Jesse Cohen, senior analyst at Investing.com, said.\nCarmaker Stellantis expects to achieve its European carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions targets this year without environmental credits bought from Tesla.\nTesla said it said it has delayed the launch of the Semi truck program to 2022 to focus on starting factories and due to limited availability of battery cells and other parts this year.\nBut the company’s new 4680 batteries are not ready for volume production; executives said it was difficult to predict when technological challenges would be resolved.\nIn an aside, Musk said he “most likely will not be on earnings calls” going forward to discuss financial results with investors and analysts.
These calls have been a colorful quarterly ritual Musk has used for discourses on Tesla technology, or to fire back at rivals or critics.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":314,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891062235,"gmtCreate":1628308742927,"gmtModify":1633751756431,"author":{"id":"3576721240338977","authorId":"3576721240338977","name":"2076eaf","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576721240338977","idStr":"3576721240338977"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ark is interesting","listText":"Ark is interesting","text":"Ark is interesting","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/891062235","repostId":"1141271021","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":911,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893836834,"gmtCreate":1628253798828,"gmtModify":1633752235072,"author":{"id":"3576721240338977","authorId":"3576721240338977","name":"2076eaf","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576721240338977","idStr":"3576721240338977"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Latest ","listText":"Latest ","text":"Latest","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/893836834","repostId":"1165886209","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1033,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":807021072,"gmtCreate":1627990285696,"gmtModify":1633754612627,"author":{"id":"3576721240338977","authorId":"3576721240338977","name":"2076eaf","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3576721240338977","idStr":"3576721240338977"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"After earning, will drop?","listText":"After earning, will drop?","text":"After earning, will drop?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/807021072","repostId":"2156128999","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2156128999","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1627989831,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2156128999?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-03 19:23","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Materion Q2 EPS $0.86 Beats $0.75 Estimate, Sales $371.00M Beat $343.50M Estimate","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2156128999","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Materion (NYSE:MTRN) reported quarterly earnings of $0.86 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $0.75 by 14.67 percent. construction, and lingering effects from chip and parts shortages and rising commodity prices.
\n
Tesla $(TSLA)$ is scheduled to report second-quarter results after the bell on Monday. The EV maker plans to host a conference call at 5:30 p.m. Eastern that day to discuss results with investors and others.
\n
Notably absent will be Jerome Guillen, the long-time Tesla executive who left in early June. Guillen, who spent more than a decade at the company, led Tesla's efforts to get the Tesla Semi, the company's commercial electric truck, off the factory floor.
\n
Tesla said in April that sales of the Tesla Semi were on track to begin this year, and investors will want to know if that's still on the table given Guillen's departure, which merited an after-the-fact, two-sentence notice.
\n
The company plans to build the Semi and the Cybertruck pickup at its newest plant being built in the Austin, Texas, area. Investors will wait for updates on these timelines as well as building progress for Texas plant and the one being built in Germany.
\n
\"Tesla shares have significantly underperformed the major OEMs such as (Ford Motor Co. $(F)$) and (General Motors Co. $(GM)$) so far this year, which we think reflects the fact that 2021 has largely been a transition year for the company as investors await the startup of those two new factories, which should drive more material revenue and earnings growth starting next year,\" CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson said.
\n
Gene Munster of Loup Ventures said Wall Street is likely to zero in Tesla's auto gross margins trends and the impact of component shortages.
\n
\"Investors will likely give the company a pass on margins given the component environment is tight,\" he said.
\n
Here's what else to expect:
\n
Earnings: The consensus estimate from 39 analysts polled by FactSet calls for Tesla to report adjusted earnings of 94 cents a share, which would compare with adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share in the year-ago period. GAAP earnings are seen at 55 cents a share.
\n
Estimize, a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts, as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others, is expecting an adjusted profit of $1.02 a share.
\n
Revenue: The analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of $11.53 billion for Tesla, up from $5.18 billion a year ago. Estimize sees revenue of $11.64 billion for the company.
\n
Stock movement: Tesla shares have underperformed the broader market, down around 8% versus gains of more than 14% for the S&P 500 index. In the past 12 months, however, the stock has nearly doubled, compared with an advance of around 33% for the S&P.
\n
Tesla's stock performance this year also compares with gains of 34% and 57% for Ford and GM shares.
\n
What else to expect: Tesla angered some customers recently when it announced a change in the way it goes about some of its autonomous-driving products, calling for subscription plans rather than upfront fees for its Full Self Driving package, which is currently being tested. The subscription prices were higher than expected, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said.
\n
FSD subscription \"will be a focus, and getting a sense on how to think about the uptake. Tesla has shied away from specific sales and production guidance, but investors will be keen on parsing out any indication that sales remain healthy.
\n
Hand in hand with that is Tesla's business in China, where demand concerns have mounted amid a recent recall, consumer criticism, and a growing number of domestic EVs as competition with Teslas.
\n
Analysts at Goldman Sachs recently zeroed in on downloads of the Tesla app in China as an indicator of demand.
\n
That data suggests \"overall demand remains solid in China and is up meaningfully (year-on-year,)\" the analysts, led by Mark Delaney, said in the recent note.
\n
Tesla has used its Shanghai factory for exports, not just to supply the Chinese domestic market, which could help explain an 11% quarter-on-quarter drop in second-quarter sales in China, the Goldman Sachs analysts said.
\n
\"Tesla sold essentially every car it made in (the first half of 2021) globally ... illustrating in our opinion that the company is supply not demand constrained.\"
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
