value fund tracks the S&amp;P SmallCap 600 Value Index (SLYV), composed of stocks with the strongest value traits based on book value to price ratio, earnings to price ratio, and sales to price ratio. SLYV rallied 32% this year through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>That more than doubles the return of its growth stock counterpart, SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth (SLYG), which is up 15%. The index SLYG tracks includes stocks with the strongest growth traits based on sales growth, earnings change to price and momentum.</p>\n<p>Back to SLYV, financials accounted for the biggest sector weight at 24% of assets. Industrials weighed in at about 17%, consumer discretionary 15% and real estate 10%. Information technology was next at 8% and materials, energy and health care, 6% each.&nbsp;Smaller positions in consumer staples, utilities and communication services made up the rest.</p>\n<p>SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Value is in IBD's ETF Leaders, but SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth is not.</p>\n<p><b>GameStop Stock Leads</b></p>\n<p><b>GameStop</b>(GME),<b>Macy's</b>(M),<b>PDC Energy</b>(PDCE),<b>Resideo Technologies</b>(REZI) and<b>BankUnited</b>(BKU) were the top five holdings as of Wednesday.</p>\n<p><b>Pacific Premier Bancorp</b>(PPBI),<b>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond</b>(BBBY),<b>Ameris Bancorp</b>(ABCB),<b>First Hawaiian</b>(FHB) and<b>Insight Enterprises</b>(NSIT) rounded out the top 10.</p>\n<p>GameStop has undergone wide swings this year. It rocketed about 2,500% early this year amid theshort-squeeze rallyfueled by the Reddit/WallStreetBets crowd.GME stockthen crashed 92% from a Jan. 28 high to its mid-February low. That was followed by an 805% surge the next three weeks, and a 66% drop over the next two weeks.</p>\n<p>Action had been relatively subdued since, until Thursday's 27% dive. Even after that, GameStop stock was up 1,070% year to date through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>Could GME be inflating SLYV's performance? Certainly, given its quadruple-digit gain. But a look at SLYG's portfolio is interesting. GameStop stock is also the top holding in the growth stock ETF, though the rest of the top 10 differ vastly.</p>\n<p><b>Second Meme Stock In Top 10</b></p>\n<p>PDC Energy, up 130%, saw the next biggest gain in the top 10. The Colorado-based oil and gas explorer has a 97Relative Strength Rating, which mean it's in the top 3% of all stocks. Its relative strength line is at a 52-week high, a bullish sign.</p>\n<p>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, another meme stock, is up 78% this year. Shares surged more than 200% in January, amid a spate of wild double-digit swings. BBBY stock then gave back the bulk of its gains.</p>\n<p>But the home goods retailer appears to be back on the radar of the WallStreetBets discussion group. On June 2, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond soared 62% before diving 28% the next session.</p>\n<p>The rest of the top 10 stocks have also outperformed the broader market. Macy's is up 68% year to date, while Resideo, Pacific Premier and Ameris have risen more than 40% each. The lowest gainer, bank holding company First Hawaiian, has advanced 20%. The index SLYG tracks includes stocks with the strongest growth traits based on sales growth, earnings change to price and momentum.\nBack to SLYV, financials accounted for the biggest sector weight at 24% of assets. Industrials weighed in at about 17%, consumer discretionary 15% and real estate 10%. JMIA stock shot up by more than 1500% from its pandemic lows earlier this year. However, in the past three months, it lost roughly 60% of its value.</p>\n<p>The reason is simple: its financials do not justify its lofty market capitalization of over $2.5 billion. Though that is true for now, the market is ignoring the business’ positioning and its incredible long-term potential.</p>\n<p>Jumia is a company in transition. It has shifted its business model towards third-party marketplace sales, which has heavily impacted its near-term growth. Moreover, it aims to be less reliant on one-off sales such as in electronics towards higher-frequency product categories such as clothing, food, and others.</p>\n<p>Additionally, higher-order frequency items will positively impact the penetration of its fintech offering called JumiaPay. It has also implemented several cost control measures and exited less profitable markets&nbsp;such as Cameroon.</p>\n<p>This being said, let’s look at Jumia in a little more depth and assess whether it’s a good investment now at this time.</p>\n<p><b>A Look at JMIA’s Financials</b></p>\n<p>It’s safe to that Jumia’s fundamentals aren’t impressive for its massive total addressable market and its meteoric valuation.</p>\n<p>Revenues in the past year&nbsp;declined by 12.9%&nbsp;though marketplace&nbsp;revenues grew by 19.6%. Moreover, its gross merchandise volume (GMV) was down&nbsp;by a considerable 19%&nbsp;for the full year. The trend has followed in its first-quarter results this year, where its&nbsp;GMV was down 13%&nbsp;and its sales dropped 6% on a year-over-year basis.</p>\n<p>The drop in revenues is linked to its transition in its business model, which I discussed earlier. However, an area where it is excelling is its gross margins.</p>\n<p>Gross margins rose by 22.3%&nbsp;last year compared to 2019, reaching positive territory after fulfillment expenses. Moreover, the trend followed in the first quarter this year, where&nbsp;gross profits reached €6.2 million, more than doubling year-over-year.</p>\n<p>The number of active users on its platform continues to rise at a healthy rate,experiencing a 12% growth&nbsp;in the past year compared to 2019.</p>\n<p>Additionally, the order volume on its platform increased by 5.1% in 2020 compared to 2019. It has shifted its business model towards third-party marketplace sales, which has heavily impacted its near-term growth. Moreover, it aims to be less reliant on one-off sales such as in electronics towards higher-frequency product categories such as clothing, food, and others.\nAdditionally, higher-order frequency items will positively impact the penetration of its fintech offering called JumiaPay. It has also implemented several cost control measures and exited less profitable markets such as Cameroon.\nThis being said, let’s look at Jumia in a little more depth and assess whether it’s a good investment now at this time.\nA Look at JMIA’s Financials\nIt’s safe to that Jumia’s fundamentals aren’t impressive for its massive total addressable market and its meteoric valuation.\nRevenues in the past year declined by 12.9% though marketplace revenues grew by 19.6%. Moreover, its gross merchandise volume (GMV) was down by a considerable 19% for the full year. It was a very successful combination.”</p><p>Investors are currently in the midst of a rotation into stocks seen as offering value in terms of earnings or sales growth as the economy recovers from the coronavirus pandemic rotation and are paring exposure to stocks that rose sharply as they benefited from the work-from-home trend in the past year.</p><p>“It is being driven by the re-opening trade, and improving macro outlook, and is directly linked to continuously increasing nominal yields, a steepening yield curve and increasing inflation expectations. SLYV rallied 32% this year through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>That more than doubles the return of its growth stock counterpart, SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth (SLYG), which is up 15%. The index SLYG tracks includes stocks with the strongest growth traits based on sales growth, earnings change to price and momentum.</p>\n<p>Back to SLYV, financials accounted for the biggest sector weight at 24% of assets. Industrials weighed in at about 17%, consumer discretionary 15% and real estate 10%. Information technology was next at 8% and materials, energy and health care, 6% each.&nbsp;Smaller positions in consumer staples, utilities and communication services made up the rest.</p>\n<p>SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Value is in IBD's ETF Leaders, but SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth is not.</p>\n<p><b>GameStop Stock Leads</b></p>\n<p><b>GameStop</b>(GME),<b>Macy's</b>(M),<b>PDC Energy</b>(PDCE),<b>Resideo Technologies</b>(REZI) and<b>BankUnited</b>(BKU) were the top five holdings as of Wednesday.</p>\n<p><b>Pacific Premier Bancorp</b>(PPBI),<b>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond</b>(BBBY),<b>Ameris Bancorp</b>(ABCB),<b>First Hawaiian</b>(FHB) and<b>Insight Enterprises</b>(NSIT) rounded out the top 10.</p>\n<p>GameStop has undergone wide swings this year. It rocketed about 2,500% early this year amid theshort-squeeze rallyfueled by the Reddit/WallStreetBets crowd.GME stockthen crashed 92% from a Jan. 28 high to its mid-February low. That was followed by an 805% surge the next three weeks, and a 66% drop over the next two weeks.</p>\n<p>Action had been relatively subdued since, until Thursday's 27% dive. Even after that, GameStop stock was up 1,070% year to date through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>Could GME be inflating SLYV's performance? Certainly, given its quadruple-digit gain. But a look at SLYG's portfolio is interesting. GameStop stock is also the top holding in the growth stock ETF, though the rest of the top 10 differ vastly.</p>\n<p><b>Second Meme Stock In Top 10</b></p>\n<p>PDC Energy, up 130%, saw the next biggest gain in the top 10. The Colorado-based oil and gas explorer has a 97Relative Strength Rating, which mean it's in the top 3% of all stocks. Its relative strength line is at a 52-week high, a bullish sign.</p>\n<p>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, another meme stock, is up 78% this year. Shares surged more than 200% in January, amid a spate of wild double-digit swings. BBBY stock then gave back the bulk of its gains.</p>\n<p>But the home goods retailer appears to be back on the radar of the WallStreetBets discussion group. On June 2, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond soared 62% before diving 28% the next session.</p>\n<p>The rest of the top 10 stocks have also outperformed the broader market. Macy's is up 68% year to date, while Resideo, Pacific Premier and Ameris have risen more than 40% each. The lowest gainer, bank holding company First Hawaiian, has advanced 20%. The latest data show outflows for a sixth consecutive day, the longest streak since the fund launched in 2014.</p><p>The slide comes with many of the fund’s top holdings caught up in a rotation out of highly-valued tech companies. Once coveted for the promise of strong future profit growth, the specter of inflation now makes stretched valuations harder to justify after robust earnings from tech giants failed to revive investor interest.</p><p>“Investors got a visceral reminder last week that the tech titans have not only surging earnings, but also reasonable valuations,” said Mike Bailey, director of research at FBB Capital Partners. “The relative attractiveness of the big five tech stocks might be making hyper growth stocks, such as those in ARKK, look even more expensive, as we see sentiment fade.”</p><p>ARKK outflows over the six-day streak total about $785 million, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. In April, the $21 billion fund saw its first monthly net outflow since October 2019. Ark Investment Management didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.</p><p>“This thing was a hot hot, go go momentum play,” said Mike Zigmont, head of research and trading at Harvest Volatility Management. “It’s not like everyone is in the poor house all of a sudden,” he added. But “you have a lot of shareholders who don’t think it’s as wonderful as the prior generations, and that’s going to represent a sentiment shift.”</p><p>The speculative corners of the market kept bleeding on Wednesday, with newly minted shares and unprofitable technology firms slumping.
