href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CCL\">Carnival</a> &nbsp;rose&nbsp;over&nbsp;3%&nbsp;in&nbsp;premarket trading,&nbsp;after&nbsp;the company said it plans to resume guest cruise operations across eight of its cruise line brands by the end of 2021. This would bring Carnival's total operating capacity to nearly 75% by the end of 2021.</p>\n<p>A total of 54 ships across AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, P&amp;O Cruises, and Seabourn plan to resume operations by the end of 2021.&nbsp;Carnival Cruise Line plans to return its full fleet to service this year, which would bring a total of 63 ships back to operations in 2021.</p>\n<p>Carnival stock has rebounded 32% over the last year but tumbled in June&nbsp;as it ran into some hurdles with the state of Florida's pushback over COVID-19 vaccine mandates, which Carnival views as important to making passengers feel safe on board.Cruise stockshave come under more selling pressure in July over a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.</p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the updated roadmap on returning to normal operations gives investors some near-term visibility on Carnival's recovery. There seems to be tremendous pent-up demand for people to travel again. That compares to shockingly large estimated increases in industrial sector profits of more than 570%, and energy industry profits, up 220%. Earnings for the financial and materials sectors are expected to be up more than 100% each.\nThose huge gains and expected earnings beats should be a positive for some cyclical stocks this quarter. Earnings season kicks off Tuesday with reports fromJPMorgan Chase,Goldman Sachs,andPepsiCo.\nThis earnings season will be the period where the tug of war that’s been a factor in the stock market, between cyclical and growth trades, is due to play out very clearly in the earnings numbers. Inflationary pressures, negative for tech stock performance, are expected to help boost cyclical earnings growth in the rebound, as companies face rising input costs but also up their prices.\n“I think what you’re going to see is a very unusual kind of contradiction between the data and the narrative,” said Jonathan Golub, chief U.S. equity strategist at Credit Suisse. “What companies are going to say is they are facing shortages and rising input costs and other things which are constraints to their success. And then what you’re going to see is massive beats and the biggest portions coming from higher margins. They’re not going to try to reconcile it.”\nGolub expects companies to provide detail on rising costs and supply shortages but not as much information on how much they are raising prices or how broadly.\n“If you listen to what the CFOs are going to say, you’re going to think the earnings are terrible, but if you look at the results, they’re going to be magnificent,” he said.\nBut ultimately, it’s tech and growth that will prove to be the best performers profit-wise over the long haul. “Their own earnings revisions for themselves are still good. They’re not deteriorating. They’re solid. They’re not getting worse. They’re not accelerating in this ridiculous way. They’re on the same solid trajectory they’ve been on,” said Brian Rauscher, Fundstrat head of global portfolio strategy.\nRauscher expects the trend to revert back to tech as the better earnings performer in two quarters from now, when cyclical airline stocks or industrial stocks like Caterpillar will see earnings growth back in the single digits. “Tech will keep growing at 25%,” he said.\nHe says economic growth will have slowed to a more normalized and sustained pace. By then it will be more apparent whether inflation is temporary or not.\n“If they are unable to pass along price increases, it will hit the earnings,” he said.\nGolub points out that tech profits in last year’s second quarter actually increased by 3.3% from 2019, as cyclical earnings plunged 85% in the same period. The 2021 second quarter earnings growth estimate for tech is 34.2%, while some cyclical earnings will rebound by more than 570% just to get back to even with 2019.\n“It says one of these is a near term trade, and one of them is a long term trade,” said Golub. “Once the supply chain issues are gone, [cyclicals] are going to be unimpressive.”\nEven with the push pull of tech and growth versus cyclical trades, strategists say the earning season should be good for the stock market.\n“I think the numbers will be very good, and it’ll be supportive for markets,” said Rauscher. We found five that are very appealing now to growth and income investors. While all are rated Buy, it is important to remember that no single analyst report should be used as a sole basis for any buying or selling decision.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MO\">Altria</a></p>\n<p>This maker of tobacco products offers value investors a great entry point now and was hit recently as cigarette sales have slowed. Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO) is the parent company of <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PM\">Philip Morris</a> USA (cigarettes), UST (smokeless), John Middleton (cigars), Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Philip Morris Capital. PMUSA enjoys a 51% share of the U.S. cigarette market, led by its top cigarette brand Marlboro.</p>\n<p>Altria also owns over 10% of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer. In March 2008, it spun off its international cigarette business to shareholders. The analyst has a $58 target price on the shares, while the consensus target is lower at $53.89. Altria stock closed on Wednesday at $46.79 per share.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CVX\">Chevron</a></p>\n<p>This energy giant is a solid way for investors who are more conservative to be positioned in the sector. Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) is a U.S.-based integrated oil and gas company, with worldwide operations in exploration and production, refining and marketing, transportation and petrochemicals. The company sports a sizable dividend and has a solid place in the sector when it comes to natural gas and liquefied natural gas.</p>\n<p>With the strongest financial base of the majors, coupled with an attractive relative asset base, many on Wall Street feel that Chevron offers the most straightforwardly positive risk/reward. Although current conditions do not warrant a large focus on production growth, Chevron possesses numerous medium-term drivers (<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NBL\">Noble</a> integration, Permian, TCO/WPMP expansion, Gulf of Mexico exploration, Vaca Muerta, and so on) that should support production levels in the coming years.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/IBM\">IBM</a></p>\n<p>This old-school tech giant still offers investors a very solid entry point. International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) is a leading provider of enterprise solutions, offering a broad portfolio of information technology (IT) hardware, business and IT services, and a full suite of software solutions.</p>\n<p>The company integrates its hardware products with its software and services offerings in order to provide high-value solutions. Analysts have cited the company’s potential in the public cloud as a reason for their positive outlook going forward.</p>\n<p>CEO Ginni Rommety, who had been in the position since 2012, stepped down in January, and the stock market greeted the news in a very positive manner. Arvind Krishna, who has led the company’s cloud computing business, became the new chief executive. Rometty will remain as executive board chair until the end of the year.</p>\n<p>Holders of IBM stock receive a 4.69% dividend. The $175 BofA Securities price target is well above the $144.14 consensus figure. The shares closed at $139.82 on Wednesday.</p>\n<p>Shareholders receive a 5.21% dividend, which analysts feel comfortable will remain at current levels. It requires a great deal of patience to invest in solid-state electric-vehicle&nbsp;battery maker&nbsp;<b>QuantumScape</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:<b><u>QS</u></b>). There are currently a number of QS stock investors holding the bag after a strong recent downtrend.</p>\n<p>On top of that, Wall Street analysts don’t expect QuantumScape&nbsp;to have any sales until 2024. That’s a hard pill for some investors to swallow.</p>\n<p>What we need to bear in mind is that QuantumScape is a development-stage company. In other words, investing in the company means have a vision for the future rather than focusing too much on the present.</p>\n<p>And thankfully, QuantumScape’s outlook for the near future suggests that the company should at least have enough capital available to flesh out its profoundly ambitious vision.</p>\n<p><b>A Closer Look at QS Stock</b></p>\n<p>First, a technical point: for much of 2020,QuantumScape was tradable&nbsp;through a shell company known as&nbsp;Kensington Capital, which had the stock ticker symbol KCAC.</p>\n<p>The business combination between Kensington Capital and QuantumScape&nbsp;was finalized on Nov. 27 of that year.</p>\n<p>Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. If you wanted to pick a poster child for the electric vehicle hype-and-fade cycle, QuantumScape would be a good candidate.</p>\n<p>For QS stock traders, the hype phase occurred in late 2020. During that year, the share price rocketed from around $10 in August to a mind-melting 52-week high of $132.73 in December.</p>\n<p>So far, however, 2021 has been less kind to QuantumScape’s shareholders. January was particularly dreadful, with the share price ending that month at around $44.</p>\n<p>The following months weren’t really any better. By the close of the market on May 20, QS stock had fallen to $27.50.</p>\n<p>Therefore, it’s understandable if the long-term stockholders are disappointed. Let’s now see if a recent earnings report can provide some hope of a recovery.</p>\n<p><b>Sorry, No Revenues</b></p>\n<p>I’ll go ahead and start with the bad news. During the first quarter of 2021, QuantumScape&nbsp;reported no revenues whatsoever.</p>\n<p>This shouldn’t be too shocking to most of the company’s investors. They ought to know by now that this is a pre-revenue company, and will continue to be that way for a while.</p>\n<p>Also, QuantumScape reported a net loss of 20 cents per share for the first quarter of 2021. That’s substantially worse than the 6-cent net loss from the first quarter of 2020.</p>\n<p>It’s also a miss compared to net loss of 7 cents per share which analysts polled by&nbsp;<b>FactSet</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:<b><u>FDS</u></b>)&nbsp;expected for 2021’s first quarter.</p>\n<p>And don’t forget, QuantumScape is still trying to shake off a stinging report from&nbsp;<b>Scorpion Capital</b>.</p>\n<p>That firm sarcastically charged that QuantumScape claimed “to have a ‘magic material’ that’s led to a breakthrough solid-state battery for electric vehicles.”</p>\n<p><b>Liquidity and Legitimacy</b></p>\n<p>In the wake of Scorpion’s harsh accusation, it appears that QuantumScape is fighting an uphill battle for legitimacy in the eyes of analysts and traders.</p>\n<p>Fortunately, there’s a hint of hope contained in QuantumScape’s outlook for 2021. In particular, the company expects to be well-capitalized.</p>\n<p>“Net of financing proceeds from our follow-on equity offering, VW investment, and public warrant exercises, we&nbsp;expect to enter 2022 with greater than $1.3B in liquidity,” the company projected.</p>\n<p>Moreover, QuantumScape expects that it will be fully funded “through initial QS-1 production.”</p>\n<p>With that, the company is looking to execute on several critical milestones:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Deliver prototype samples to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from QuantumScape’s engineering line in 2022</li>\n <li>Provide cells for research and development test cars from QS-0 in 2023</li>\n <li>Enter commercial production between 2024 and 2025</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line on QS Stock</b></p>\n<p>Holding QS stock was enjoyable in late 2020, but not nearly as much fun in early 2021.</p>\n<p>Patience will still be required to stay in the trade. It requires a great deal of patience to invest in solid-state electric-vehicle battery maker QuantumScape (NYSE:QS). There are currently a number of QS stock investors holding the bag after a strong recent downtrend.\nOn top of that, Wall Street analysts don’t expect QuantumScape to have any sales until 2024. That’s a hard pill for some investors to swallow.\nWhat we need to bear in mind is that QuantumScape is a development-stage company. In other words, investing in the company means have a vision for the future rather than focusing too much on the present.\nAnd thankfully, QuantumScape’s outlook for the near future suggests that the company should at least have enough capital available to flesh out its profoundly ambitious vision.\nA Closer Look at QS Stock\nFirst, a technical point: for much of 2020,QuantumScape was tradable through a shell company known as Kensington Capital, which had the stock ticker symbol KCAC.\nThe business combination between Kensington Capital and QuantumScape was finalized on Nov. 27 of that year.\nLet’s get down to the nitty-gritty. If you wanted to pick a poster child for the electric vehicle hype-and-fade cycle, QuantumScape would be a good candidate.\nFor QS stock traders, the hype phase occurred in late 2020. During that year, the share price rocketed from around $10 in August to a mind-melting 52-week high of $132.73 in December.\nSo far, however, 2021 has been less kind to QuantumScape’s shareholders. January was particularly dreadful, with the share price ending that month at around $44.\nThe following months weren’t really any better. By the close of the market on May 20, QS stock had fallen to $27.50.\nTherefore, it’s understandable if the long-term stockholders are disappointed. Let’s now see if a recent earnings report can provide some hope of a recovery.\nSorry, No Revenues\nI’ll go ahead and start with the bad news. During the first quarter of 2021, QuantumScape reported no revenues whatsoever.\nThis shouldn’t be too shocking to most of the company’s investors. They ought to know by now that this is a pre-revenue company, and will continue to be that way for a while.\nAlso, QuantumScape reported a net loss of 20 cents per share for the first quarter of 2021. That’s substantially worse than the 6-cent net loss from the first quarter of 2020.\nIt’s also a miss compared to net loss of 7 cents per share which analysts polled by FactSet (NYSE:FDS) expected for 2021’s first quarter.\nAnd don’t forget, QuantumScape is still trying to shake off a stinging report from Scorpion Capital.\nThat firm sarcastically charged that QuantumScape claimed “to have a ‘magic material’ that’s led to a breakthrough solid-state battery for electric vehicles.”\nLiquidity and Legitimacy\nIn the wake of Scorpion’s harsh accusation, it appears that QuantumScape is fighting an uphill battle for legitimacy in the eyes of analysts and traders.\nFortunately, there’s a hint of hope contained in QuantumScape’s outlook for 2021. In particular, the company expects to be well-capitalized.\n“Net of financing proceeds from our follow-on equity offering, VW investment, and public warrant exercises, we expect to enter 2022 with greater than $1.3B in liquidity,” the company projected.\nMoreover, QuantumScape expects that it will be fully funded “through initial QS-1 production.”\nWith that, the company is looking to execute on several critical milestones:\n\nDeliver prototype samples to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from QuantumScape’s engineering line in 2022\nProvide cells for research and development test cars from QS-0 in 2023\nEnter commercial production between 2024 and 2025\n\nThe Bottom Line on QS Stock\nHolding QS stock was enjoyable in late 2020, but not nearly as much fun in early 2021.\nPatience will still be required to stay in the trade.
