actively follows the popular subreddit WallStreetBets and may leverage that following to drive the Tesla share price higher.
\n
WallStreetBets is made up of 11.2m members and growing, mostly retail traders, who are unpredictable in their mob mentality.
\n
\n
RichVintage/E+ via Getty Images
\n
Meme Stock Mentions As An Indicator
\n
I have a theory that the only reason Musk's Tesla (TSLA) has achieved the eye watering market capitalisation of $1.141T, with a P/E ratio of 368, is because Elon Musk himself is a master of PR and marketing.
\n
Core to this theory is that supply and demand is what drives a share's price (whereas fundamental and perceived value is what drives the individual investor to buy or sell), and demand can be manipulated through awareness and PR efforts. I believe prices will revert back to fundamental value in the long run.
\n
I argue that this awareness effect applies more to retail investors than to more sophisticated investors or investment funds, though this would obviously have a flow-on effect on them.
\n
A more traditional example of this theory is how news and announcements affect share prices, albeit they are more closely tied to fundamental value.
\n
Subreddit WallStreetBets As A Catalyst
\n
The Reddit Community WallStreetBets (WSB) is infamous for its role in the January 2021 GameStop saga, which led to a huge price increase in the retail firm's share price after the Reddit community popularised day trading of the firm.
\n
WSB is a community of mostly retail traders, some with no formal investing education or prior experience, and utilising margin loans through trading apps like Robinhood (though more experienced traders are present and active in the subreddit) to invest in the financial markets.
\n
The GameStop saga may be (mostly) over now, but this community is still thriving. At the time of the GameStop saga, the community had less than 3m members, while today it has over 11.2m members.
\n
Given the almost 4X growth in community size thanks to the amount of attention generated in the GameStop saga, it's arguable that the community is more powerful than ever before in the day trading space.
\n
The Elon Musk/WSB Connection
\n
Musk is famously aware of, and following, the WSB subreddit, once tweeting to his 43m followers a link to the subreddit with the caption \"Gamestonk.\"
\n
Musk has also claimed that short sellers have a negative impact on the valuation of TSLA, and it's not hard to imagine how he might see WSB as a tool to affect the share price.
\n
Musk is regarded as a hero by the WSB community, who are very aware that he follows them, and often post memes or comments in a worshipful manner, declaring him a \"Meme Lord.\"
\n
Tracking WSB Community Sentiment
\n
Thanks to a site called Swaggy Stocks, we are able to track WSB sentiment towards TSLA and count TSLA mentions (and various other firms that get attention on the subreddit, such as the infamous GameStop (GME) short squeeze).
\n
If we take a look at a 1-year history of the TSLA share price vs WSB mentions and sentiment, a cursory glance reveals a general correlation between mentions and upward price activity.
\n
Source: Swaggy Stocks
\n
Another clear trend is the overwhelming positive sentiment towards TSLA (and almost any other stock mentioned there) from the WSB community. Search many of these comments and posts, and you'll see the phrase \"Stonks only go up!\" appear across many, many posts.
\n
Do Other Mediums Have The Same Correlation?
\n
Swaggy Stocks also tracks TSLA mentions across more traditional news sources and other social media sites.
\n
Searching social media for discussion and due-diligence style posts, Swaggy Stocks is able to show the total number of mentions TSLA generates, to compare with WSB.
\n
Source: Swaggy Stocks
\n
There appears to be a very similar correlation between broader social media mentions of TSLA and stock price activity, but it appears that this attention is reactionary rather than a lead indicator. It is, however, a confirmation of awareness of the stock following along with major price movements, up or down.
\n
What Trends Can We See?
\n
Looking at the two graphs of mentions vs stock price, the most prominent trend is how TSLA mentions, and discussion peaks mostly as major price spikes occur. It does not appear that mentions are a leading indicator, but perhaps a slow-down in mentions might indicate that any further major price movements are not to be expected.
\n
In my eyes, the more interesting time period (circled in red below) is where mentions of TSLA slowed considerably, and the stock price dwindled following the peak in mentions.
\n
I argue that in this instance, when the stock fell from $900 to $600, WSB retail investors attention was diverted from the firm and this halted the upward price movement, sending the stock backward towards it's true long-run fundamental value.
\n
Source: Swaggy Stocks
\n
Does This Awareness Effect Apply To Other Stocks?
\n
Given GME was the beginning of notoriety for WSB, it's worth comparing the GME ticker to WSB sentiment to search for similar trends.
\n
Again, large price movements occur around the same time as WSB commentary spikes, and prices tend to drift lower as attention drifts away.
\n
Source: Swaggy Stocks
\n
Looking at a third firm, Apple (AAPL), to compare WSB activity with the largest market cap firm in the US, the correlation between mentions and price activity is much weaker, suggesting that there may be a limit to the WSB community's influence. While activity still follows price movements, there is also the possibility WSB is just simply not as interested in AAPL as it is in TSLA or GME.
\n
Source: Swaggy Stocks
\n
The Investment View: Results May Vary
\n
I would argue that WSB is not perhaps a leading indicator, but it does play a part in stock awareness and encourages new investors to enter the market.
\n
I would also argue that 11.2m retail investors is certainly a force to be reckoned with and worth paying attention to - perhaps not a guidance of which stock will boom next but rather which ones are overpriced or have peaked.
\n
Overall, there's a strong sense that stocks that receive attention from WSB undergo price volatility, and do drift back to their long-run fundamental value given enough time.
\n
Perhaps it's a case of, if WSB is promoting the stock, you're already too late.
\n
So What Does This Mean For TSLA?
\n
Coming full circle back to TSLA, and reviewing their WSB sentiment chart, I feel there is strong argument to be made that the stock is over-priced due to the presence of retail traders.
\n
However, monitoring WSB activity may give investors a helpful indicator of when TSLA may be about to experience a price correction as retail investor's attention is drawn away from the firm.
\n
With that said, Elon Musk remains a variable worth watching given his awareness of the subreddit and its effect on the market, and he has the platform to drive attention back onto TSLA as he sees fit.
\n
The Value Of A Mention
\n
It's hard to place a quantifiable value on what a mention on WSB is worth to a firm, as individually they are probably worth close to $0. But more significant interest could have a life changing short term impact on current shareholders as the value of their portfolio balloons thanks to retail traders taking an interest in one of their holdings.
\n
On the other hand, short sellers (such as those shorting GME earlier this year) could feel substantial pain, as their positions require covering at ever increasing prices.
\n
If I was to place a value on it, I would suggest adjusting price targets by as much as 2X current price if a firm were to see significant interest through WSB - but this is tempered by the expectation that long term, the stock would return to its fundamental value.
\n
If you're holding TSLA shares, it appears the music has stopped over at WSB, and prices may fall back to around $700 in the coming weeks.
\n
In short, if your holding becomes a 'meme stock', take 2X your money and run - things are about to get volatile.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; I believe prices will revert back to fundamental value in the long run.\nI argue that this awareness effect applies more to retail investors than to more sophisticated investors or investment funds, though this would obviously have a flow-on effect on them.\nA more traditional example of this theory is how news and announcements affect share prices, albeit they are more closely tied to fundamental value.\nSubreddit WallStreetBets As A Catalyst\nThe Reddit Community WallStreetBets (WSB) is infamous for its role in the January 2021 GameStop saga, which led to a huge price increase in the retail firm's share price after the Reddit community popularised day trading of the firm.\nWSB is a community of mostly retail traders, some with no formal investing education or prior experience, and utilising margin loans through trading apps like Robinhood (though more experienced traders are present and active in the subreddit) to invest in the financial markets.\nThe GameStop saga may be (mostly) over now, but this community is still thriving. At the time of the GameStop saga, the community had less than 3m members, while today it has over 11.2m members.\nGiven the almost 4X growth in community size thanks to the amount of attention generated in the GameStop saga, it's arguable that the community is more powerful than ever before in the day trading space.\nThe Elon Musk/WSB Connection\nMusk is famously aware of, and following, the WSB subreddit, once tweeting to his 43m followers a link to the subreddit with the caption \"Gamestonk.\"\nMusk has also claimed that short sellers have a negative impact on the valuation of TSLA, and it's not hard to imagine how he might see WSB as a tool to affect the share price.\nMusk is regarded as a hero by the WSB community, who are very aware that he follows them, and often post memes or comments in a worshipful manner, declaring him a \"Meme Lord.\"\nTracking WSB Community Sentiment\nThanks to a site called Swaggy Stocks, we are able to track WSB sentiment towards TSLA and count TSLA mentions (and various other firms that get attention on the subreddit, such as the infamous GameStop (GME) short squeeze).\nIf we take a look at a 1-year history of the TSLA share price vs WSB mentions and sentiment, a cursory glance reveals a general correlation between mentions and upward price activity.\nSource: Swaggy Stocks\nAnother clear trend is the overwhelming positive sentiment towards TSLA (and almost any other stock mentioned there) from the WSB community. Search many of these comments and posts, and you'll see the phrase \"Stonks only go up!\" appear across many, many posts.\nDo Other Mediums Have The Same Correlation?\nSwaggy Stocks also tracks TSLA mentions across more traditional news sources and other social media sites.\nSearching social media for discussion and due-diligence style posts, Swaggy Stocks is able to show the total number of mentions TSLA generates, to compare with WSB.\nSource: Swaggy Stocks\nThere appears to be a very similar correlation between broader social media mentions of TSLA and stock price activity, but it appears that this attention is reactionary rather than a lead indicator. It is, however, a confirmation of awareness of the stock following along with major price movements, up or down.\nWhat Trends Can We See?\nLooking at the two graphs of mentions vs stock price, the most prominent trend is how TSLA mentions, and discussion peaks mostly as major price spikes occur. It does not appear that mentions are a leading indicator, but perhaps a slow-down in mentions might indicate that any further major price movements are not to be expected.\nIn my eyes, the more interesting time period (circled in red below) is where mentions of TSLA slowed considerably, and the stock price dwindled following the peak in mentions.\nI argue that in this instance, when the stock fell from $900 to $600, WSB retail investors attention was diverted from the firm and this halted the upward price movement, sending the stock backward towards it's true long-run fundamental value.\nSource: Swaggy Stocks\nDoes This Awareness Effect Apply To Other Stocks?\nGiven GME was the beginning of notoriety for WSB, it's worth comparing the GME ticker to WSB sentiment to search for similar trends.\nAgain, large price movements occur around the same time as WSB commentary spikes, and prices tend to drift lower as attention drifts away.\nSource: Swaggy Stocks\nLooking at a third firm, Apple (AAPL), to compare WSB activity with the largest market cap firm in the US, the correlation between mentions and price activity is much weaker, suggesting that there may be a limit to the WSB community's influence. While activity still follows price movements, there is also the possibility WSB is just simply not as interested in AAPL as it is in TSLA or GME.\nSource: Swaggy Stocks\nThe Investment View: Results May Vary\nI would argue that WSB is not perhaps a leading indicator, but it does play a part in stock awareness and encourages new investors to enter the market.\nI would also argue that 11.2m retail investors is certainly a force to be reckoned with and worth paying attention to - perhaps not a guidance of which stock will boom next but rather which ones are overpriced or have peaked.\nOverall, there's a strong sense that stocks that receive attention from WSB undergo price volatility, and do drift back to their long-run fundamental value given enough time.\nPerhaps it's a case of, if WSB is promoting the stock, you're already too late.\nSo What Does This Mean For TSLA?\nComing full circle back to TSLA, and reviewing their WSB sentiment chart, I feel there is strong argument to be made that the stock is over-priced due to the presence of retail traders.\nHowever, monitoring WSB activity may give investors a helpful indicator of when TSLA may be about to experience a price correction as retail investor's attention is drawn away from the firm.\nWith that said, Elon Musk remains a variable worth watching given his awareness of the subreddit and its effect on the market, and he has the platform to drive attention back onto TSLA as he sees fit.\nThe Value Of A Mention\nIt's hard to place a quantifiable value on what a mention on WSB is worth to a firm, as individually they are probably worth close to $0. But more significant interest could have a life changing short term impact on current shareholders as the value of their portfolio balloons thanks to retail traders taking an interest in one of their holdings.\nOn the other hand, short sellers (such as those shorting GME earlier this year) could feel substantial pain, as their positions require covering at ever increasing prices.\nIf I was to place a value on it, I would suggest adjusting price targets by as much as 2X current price if a firm were to see significant interest through WSB - but this is tempered by the expectation that long term, the stock would return to its fundamental value.\nIf you're holding TSLA shares, it appears the music has stopped over at WSB, and prices may fall back to around $700 in the coming weeks.\nIn short, if your holding becomes a 'meme stock', take 2X your money and run - things are about to get volatile.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2057,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":874844918,"gmtCreate":1637762833026,"gmtModify":1637762833097,"author":{"id":"3579076958972231","authorId":"3579076958972231","name":"longls","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/447165139381fe0d9b0eab06c8fdbbd0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579076958972231","idStr":"3579076958972231"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gone","listText":"Gone","text":"Gone","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/874844918","repostId":"1128872739","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1128872739","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1637761938,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1128872739?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-24 21:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"ContextLogic shares fell 5.04% in premarket trading as France ordered websites to remove online marketplace Wish.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1128872739","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"ContextLogic shares fell 5.04% in premarket trading as France ordered websites to remove online mark","content":"
ContextLogic shares fell 5.04% in premarket trading as France ordered websites to remove online marketplace Wish.
\n
France ordered search engines and online platforms on Wednesday to strip Wish from their listings over concerns about product safety and the U.S. e-commerce marketplace said it was taking legal action to challenge the move.
\n
The French government, which has been investigating a number of online operators, said in a statement that its consumer watchdog had found a large proportion of products it examined on the Wish site to be dangerous.
\n
The government said Wish, which is operated by ContextLogic Inc. based in San Francisco, had failed to recall them in a satisfactory manner and clearly inform consumers about the risks of some products sold through its platform.
\n
\"We are starting legal action to challenge what we consider an illegal and disproportionate act,\" Wish said in a statement.
\n
Wish said it had always met demands from France's General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) to pull items and had attempted to engage in a constructive dialogue with the consumer watchdog.
\n
The government statement cited electronic goods including strings of outdoor lights and power adapters that could cause electric shocks, animal toys carrying choking hazards and jewellery containing dangerous chemicals lead and cadmium.
\n
\"We're asking for the delisting of the site on all search engines,\" Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire told France Info radio on Wednesday.
\n
Out of a sample of 140 products, 45% of the toys, 90% of electrical goods and 62% of the jewellery items were dangerous, according to the watchdog. For example, the central nervous system disorder drug specialist Axsome Therapeutics, the cancer specialist Exelixis, and the electric car pioneer Tesla have all delivered tenfold returns for investors who bought these names at their low points.
\n
Which stocks might be the next Axsome, Exelixis, or Tesla from a growth standpoint? The cancer/rare disease specialist Mereo BioPharma Group(NASDAQ:MREO)and the diabetes-focused medical device company Senseonics Holdings(NYSEMKT:SENS)could both be gearing up for a monstrous run higher soon. In fact, these two low-priced healthcare stocks have a decent shot at generating 1,000%-plus returns for their shareholders within the next two to three years.
\n
Here's a brief overview on the risks and potential rewards associated with each of these promising growth vehicles.
\n
Mereo BioPharma: A bet on the future of immunotherapy
\n
The London-based biopharma Mereo hasn't exactly set the world on fire since its American depository shares (ADS) made their debut on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Keeping with this theme, the biotech's ADSes have lost approximately 65% of their value since April 2019. This steady downward trend shouldn't scare away aggressive investors, however. Mereo's plunging share price, after all, is more about Mr. Market's well-known impatience with clinical-stage biotechs, rather than the company's underlying value proposition.
\n
What's the scoop? Mereo is a small-cap company with six assets under development for both cancer and rare diseases. However, the one drug candidate that could undoubtedly send the company's shares rocketing higher is the anti-TIGIT therapy known as etigilimab. Several major drug companies, such as BeiGene,Bristol Myers Squibb,Merck, and Roche, have anti-TIGIT therapies under development due to their potential to boost the efficacy and durability of cancer immunotherapy treatments in general. Mereo's etigilimab is currently in a combined phase 1/2 basket study to evaluate its utility as part of combination treament, along with Bristol's megablockbuster checkpoint inhibitor Opdivo, for a variety of solid tumors.
\n
As things stand now, Mereo's anti-TIGIT candidate is slated to yield top-line data from this basket trial in approximately 18-months from now. During this lengthy interval, however, the drugmaker ought to provide multiple updates on etigilimab's progress, which could turn out to be a series of major catalysts for its share price in the coming months. Another bit of good news is that Mereo's cash runway reportedly extends into 2024. That's key, because it means that the biotech shouldn't have to repeatly tap the public markets for capital over the next year and a half.
\n
What's the downside risk? Mereo's management team has been open about its desire to partner with larger biopharmas. Etigilimab, for its part, could spark either a high dollar licensing agreement or a full-on buyout within the next two years. So a lot is riding on this single experimental drug. Unfortunately, early stage cancer therapies fail more often than not in the clinic. As a failure in this case would weigh heavily on the biotech's share price, potential investors may want to keep any initial position on the small side.
\n
Senseonic: A rising tide lifts all boats
\n
Senseonics' stock is worth a look by ultra-aggressive investors due to its implantable continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device franchise known as Eversense. The lowdown is that the CGM market has been growing by over 10% per year over the past five years, according to a report by Grand View Research. What's more, this space is forecast to grow by at least 10% per year over the next five years. That's definitely a favorable trend for a small-cap CGM player like Senseonics.
\n
So far, Senseonics has only captured a small sliver of this multi-billion dollar medical device market with its Eversense franchise. But the company is hoping to drastically improve its competitive positioning with a potential regulatory approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its 180-day version of the Eversense CGM system. The medical device company submitteda regulatory application to the FDA for this proposed product over a year ago. So a decision could come any day now.
\n
Why does this FDA approval matter? Senseonics' internal projections have the company's top-line rising at a compound annual growth rate of over 70% over the next five years as a result of this key regulatory nod. The long and short of it is that the current 90-day Eversense CGM system isn't particularly competitive in the U.S. against the market-leading devices from DexCom and Abbott Laboratories, respectively. But this longer-lasting version of the device could cause sales to skyrocket in the coming years.
\n
What's the risk? Senseonics is competing in a jam-packed space against a number of well-capitalized medical-device giants. So there is a chance that this long-awaited FDA approval won't spark a parabolic rise in sales. For example, the central nervous system disorder drug specialist Axsome Therapeutics, the cancer specialist Exelixis, and the electric car pioneer Tesla have all delivered tenfold returns for investors who bought these names at their low points.\nWhich stocks might be the next Axsome, Exelixis, or Tesla from a growth standpoint? The cancer/rare disease specialist Mereo BioPharma Group(NASDAQ:MREO)and the diabetes-focused medical device company Senseonics Holdings(NYSEMKT:SENS)could both be gearing up for a monstrous run higher soon. In fact, these two low-priced healthcare stocks have a decent shot at generating 1,000%-plus returns for their shareholders within the next two to three years.\nHere's a brief overview on the risks and potential rewards associated with each of these promising growth vehicles.\nMereo BioPharma: A bet on the future of immunotherapy\nThe London-based biopharma Mereo hasn't exactly set the world on fire since its American depository shares (ADS) made their debut on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Keeping with this theme, the biotech's ADSes have lost approximately 65% of their value since April 2019. This steady downward trend shouldn't scare away aggressive investors, however. Mereo's plunging share price, after all, is more about Mr. Market's well-known impatience with clinical-stage biotechs, rather than the company's underlying value proposition.\nWhat's the scoop? Mereo is a small-cap company with six assets under development for both cancer and rare diseases. However, the one drug candidate that could undoubtedly send the company's shares rocketing higher is the anti-TIGIT therapy known as etigilimab. Several major drug companies, such as BeiGene,Bristol Myers Squibb,Merck, and Roche, have anti-TIGIT therapies under development due to their potential to boost the efficacy and durability of cancer immunotherapy treatments in general. Mereo's etigilimab is currently in a combined phase 1/2 basket study to evaluate its utility as part of combination treament, along with Bristol's megablockbuster checkpoint inhibitor Opdivo, for a variety of solid tumors.\nAs things stand now, Mereo's anti-TIGIT candidate is slated to yield top-line data from this basket trial in approximately 18-months from now. During this lengthy interval, however, the drugmaker ought to provide multiple updates on etigilimab's progress, which could turn out to be a series of major catalysts for its share price in the coming months. Another bit of good news is that Mereo's cash runway reportedly extends into 2024. That's key, because it means that the biotech shouldn't have to repeatly tap the public markets for capital over the next year and a half.\nWhat's the downside risk? Mereo's management team has been open about its desire to partner with larger biopharmas. Etigilimab, for its part, could spark either a high dollar licensing agreement or a full-on buyout within the next two years. So a lot is riding on this single experimental drug. Unfortunately, early stage cancer therapies fail more often than not in the clinic. As a failure in this case would weigh heavily on the biotech's share price, potential investors may want to keep any initial position on the small side.\nSenseonic: A rising tide lifts all boats\nSenseonics' stock is worth a look by ultra-aggressive investors due to its implantable continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device franchise known as Eversense. The lowdown is that the CGM market has been growing by over 10% per year over the past five years, according to a report by Grand View Research. What's more, this space is forecast to grow by at least 10% per year over the next five years. That's definitely a favorable trend for a small-cap CGM player like Senseonics.\nSo far, Senseonics has only captured a small sliver of this multi-billion dollar medical device market with its Eversense franchise. But the company is hoping to drastically improve its competitive positioning with a potential regulatory approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its 180-day version of the Eversense CGM system. The medical device company submitteda regulatory application to the FDA for this proposed product over a year ago. So a decision could come any day now.\nWhy does this FDA approval matter? Senseonics' internal projections have the company's top-line rising at a compound annual growth rate of over 70% over the next five years as a result of this key regulatory nod. The long and short of it is that the current 90-day Eversense CGM system isn't particularly competitive in the U.S. against the market-leading devices from DexCom and Abbott Laboratories, respectively. But this longer-lasting version of the device could cause sales to skyrocket in the coming years.\nWhat's the risk? Senseonics is competing in a jam-packed space against a number of well-capitalized medical-device giants. So there is a chance that this long-awaited FDA approval won't spark a parabolic rise in sales. That's not a knock against Senseonics' CGM system, but rather the harsh reality of competing against healthcare companies with vastly superior resources. Investors shouldn't ignore this potential risk factor.\nAll told, Senseonics could be on the verge of a game-changing regulatory event that might prove to be a key inflection point for the company's CGM franchise. If true, this medical device company's stock should turn out to be a downright bargain at these levels.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MREO":0.9,"SENS":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":728,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":857646546,"gmtCreate":1635523870281,"gmtModify":1635523870281,"author":{"id":"3579076958972231","authorId":"3579076958972231","name":"longls","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/447165139381fe0d9b0eab06c8fdbbd0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579076958972231","idStr":"3579076958972231"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/857646546","repostId":"1161270494","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1161270494","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing The index fell Friday, notching its largest weekly percentage decline in three weeks. Contracts for the tech-focused Nasdaq-100 shed 1.7% Monday, and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.7%.
\n
Some countries are imposing restrictions to stem the spread of the Omicron variant as the holiday season starts. The Netherlands on Sunday reimposed a lockdown, with all nonessential shops, bars and restaurants closed until mid-January. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin also announced new restrictions. President Biden plans to deliver an update Tuesday on the fight against Covid-19 in the U.S., where cases are rising.
\n
The rise in infections has prompted concerns that a new wave is likely to prolong supply-chain disruptions that have elevated inflation.
\n
“We’re really seeing Omicron spread like wildfire, and it’s weighing on sentiment,” said Esty Dwek, chief investment officer at FlowBank. “You’re seeing lockdowns instigated in Europe. You’re seeing more and more restrictions and the number of cases is going up so much that even if it’s less severe it could lead to more hospitalizations,” which are likely to cause new restrictions that will weigh on growth, she added.
\n
Oil prices fell amid concerns that the spread of the Omicron variant could hurt global economic growth and crimp oil demand. Brent crude futures, the benchmark in global oil markets, declined 5.1% to $69.78 a barrel.
\n
In bond markets, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note ticked down to 1.368% Monday from 1.401% Friday. Investors tend to buy government bonds, seen as one of the safest assets to hold, in times of uncertainty, causing bond prices to rise and yields to fall.
\n
The Cboe Volatility Index—Wall Street’s so-called fear gauge, also known as the VIX—ticked up to 27.20, its highest level in two weeks.
\n
In premarket trading, shares of cruise companies sank, with Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival down more than 5% each. Shares of energy companies slipped alongside oil prices. Occidental Petroleum shares fell 5.4% and Marathon Oil declined 4.7%.
\n
Portfolio managers whose performance is assessed on a year-over-year basis are also likely closing out their positions and locking in gains after a strong year in markets. Despite recent market volatility, the S&P 500 is up more than 20% this year.
\n
Also weighing on sentiment, Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) said he would oppose his party’s roughly $2 trillion education, healthcare and climate package, likely dooming the centerpiece of Mr. Biden’s economic agenda as currently written.
\n
Overseas, the pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 tumbled 2.5%. Shares of U.K. food-delivery companyDeliverooadded 3.5% in London trading.
\n
Major indexes in Asia closed lower. South Korea’s Kospi contracted 1.8% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 shed 2.1%. Hong Kong’s flagship Hang Seng Index fell 1.9% to its lowest closing level since March 2020, according to FactSet.
\n
China’s Shanghai Composite declined 1.1%. It remains to be seen whether the bill will pass the Senate, but the House action gives it a better shot.\nThe act would be a boon for marijuana companies, which have so far been stymied by the need to deal in cash because of federal restrictions. She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.
\n
“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”
\n
While investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.
\n
And even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.
\n
What's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.
\n
“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.
\n
The Buffett Indicator
\n
Larry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock
\n
One metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.
\n
But the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.
\n
And those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.
\n
How to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock
\n
Orman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.
\n
1. Buy low
\n
Part of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.
\n
“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”
\n
She points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.
\n
Because you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.
\n
2. Invest on a schedule
\n
katjen / Shutterstock
\n
While she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.
\n
She wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.
\n
In fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.
\n
“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”
\n
She suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.
\n
This kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.
\n
There are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.
\n
3. Diversify with fractional shares
\n
To help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.
\n
Orman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.
\n
With the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.
\n
“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”
\n
“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”
\n
What else you can do
\n
goodluz / Shutterstock
\n
Whether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.
\n
First, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.
\n
Then, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.
\n
That will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.
\n
If you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.
\n
While everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.
","source":"lsy1621813427262","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.\n“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”\nWhile investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.\nAnd even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.\nWhat's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.\n“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.\nThe Buffett Indicator\nLarry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock\nOne metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.\nBut the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.\nAnd those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.\nHow to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock\nOrman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.\n1. Buy low\nPart of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.\n“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”\nShe points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.\nBecause you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.\n2. Invest on a schedule\nkatjen / Shutterstock\nWhile she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.\nShe wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.\nIn fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.\n“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”\nShe suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.\nThis kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.\nThere are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.\n3. Diversify with fractional shares\nTo help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.\nOrman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.\nWith the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.\n“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”\n“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”\nWhat else you can do\ngoodluz / Shutterstock\nWhether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.\nFirst, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.\nThen, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.\nThat will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.\nIf you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.\nWhile everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":210,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":156637015,"gmtCreate":1625216866837,"gmtModify":1633942451241,"author":{"id":"3579076958972231","authorId":"3579076958972231","name":"longls","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/447165139381fe0d9b0eab06c8fdbbd0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579076958972231","authorIdStr":"3579076958972231"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"🚀🚀🚀","listText":"🚀🚀🚀","text":"🚀🚀🚀","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/156637015","repostId":"1103130145","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":212,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":107365821,"gmtCreate":1620446009163,"gmtModify":1634198693388,"author":{"id":"3579076958972231","authorId":"3579076958972231","name":"longls","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/447165139381fe0d9b0eab06c8fdbbd0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579076958972231","authorIdStr":"3579076958972231"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I just sold all of my dogecoin","listText":"I just sold all of my dogecoin","text":"I just sold all of my dogecoin","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/107365821","repostId":"1160802774","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1160802774","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620442206,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1160802774?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-08 10:50","market":"other","language":"en","title":"Dogecoin price’s ‘make-or-break’ moment looms with Elon Musk set to host ‘Saturday Night Live’","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1160802774","media":"Marketwatch","summary":"Nikki Beesetti started investing in crypto back in 2017 and paid off her final semester at Purdue Un","content":"
Nikki Beesetti started investing in crypto back in 2017 and paid off her final semester at Purdue University with proceeds from the sale of a single bitcoin that she bought on a whim, which had surged to nearly $20,000.

Now, the product manager for a startup in New York is dabbling in dogecoin ,and sees this weekend as a possible make-or-break moment for the parody coin that has seen a stratospheric, nearly 13,000% rise in 2021.

“This Saturday is going to be a total make-or-break for dogecoin,” Beesetti told MarketWatch in a phone interview.

“If he can really get the messaging right, dogecoin can really take off…or it’s going to crash to wherever it’s going to crash to,” she said.

The 25-year-old investor is one of a number of relatively young traders who are piling into speculative altcoins like dogecoin as the so-called joke asset mints millionaires and draws some concerns about a bubble forming in the nascent crypto complex.

Musk will host NBC’s late-night live television comedy sketch show, “Saturday Night Live,” this weekend and his coming appearance has already drawn cheers and jeers.

Musk has been one of the biggest cheerleaders for dogecoin and crypto broadly.
