Since seeing this stock approximately double from the beginning of the year to the $45 level, shares of PLTR now trade under $19, at the time of writing.</p><p>Today, PLTR stock is down nearly 5% ahead of earnings. The company is set to report earnings tomorrow, and this earnings season has beenrelatively unfriendly to investors. Tech stocks are dipping, as many consider a speculative selloff as healthy. Given where valuations are today, even blowout earnings haven’t been enough to move the needle on many mega-cap stocks.</p><p>Accordingly, many companies like Palantir have sold off prior to earnings in anticipation of such a move.</p><p>That aside, it appears there’s other concerns investors are pricing in right now. Let’s dive into one of the most pertinent concerns on the minds of Palantir investors right now.</p><p>Potential Culling of JEDI Contract Bearish for PLTR Stock</p><p>Today, it wasreportedthat the U.S. Department of Defense is considering ending its JEDI cloud-computing project. This move appears to have shocked PLTR investors, driving a significant portion of today’s outsized move.</p><p>This JEDI contract is one that, on its face, has little to do with Palantir.<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Microsoft</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>MSFT</u></b>) have been the key bidders on this contract, and there’s been some litigation brought up as a result of how the contract was doled out. Accordingly, investors may view this dispute as exogenous. However, given Palantir’s core business model, there are reasons for concern.</p><p>Specifically, Palantir’s business model is based mainly on gaining government contracts for its services. A range oflarge contractshave been granted to Palantir in recent years. These contracts make up a majority of the company’s revenue. Accordingly, investors bullish on Palantir are also bullish on the company’s ability to not only keep its existing contracts, but grow its ongoing relationship with the Pentagon and other U.S. government agencies.</p><p>Today’s move by the Pentagon to consider ending this contract is bearish for all such consulting firms interacting with this agency. Anticipation of the fall launch of the company’s first 5G phones, surging demand for both Macs and iPads as the pandemic rolled on, and strength in both wearables and services fed off each other. The pieces all came together in the December quarter, when Apple (ticker: AAPL) posted&nbsp;its biggest quarter ever. Sales soared 21% to $111.4 billion, more than $8 billion over the Street consensus. Every product category—iPhone, iPad, Macs, wearables, and services—notched double-digit growth. Apple stock finished the year up 81%, adding nearly $1 trillion to its market cap.</p>\n<p>That’s a tough act to follow, particularly with the March quarter, which always slows from the holiday-boosted December quarter. But Apple could pull off the quintuple double again when its results come out after the bell Wednesday. The Street certainly thinks so, even if the market, which has pushed Apple shares up less than 2% in 2021, has been more cautious. Consensus estimates call for double-digit increases from last year across the board: iPhones sales up 43%, to $41.4 billion; iPad sales up 29%, to $5.6 billion; Mac sales of $6.8 billion, up 27%; wearables sales (mostly Apple Watch and AirPods) of $7.4 billion, up 18%; and a 16% bump in services, to $15.5 billion.</p>\n<p>Overall, the Street consensus expects sales of $77 billion, up 32% from a year ago, with profits of 98 cents a share. That would be the fastest top-line growth rate for any Apple quarter since March 2012, when revenues were about half what they are now. And most bullish Apple analysts seem to think their own estimates are too low—a print at $77 billion would likely trigger a selloff in the stock.</p>\n<p>Apple is also&nbsp;expected to provide an update on its capital-allocation strategy. A year ago,the company announced a 6% dividend increase, and boosted its stock repurchase plan by $50 billion. They’ll be looking for company guidance on that point.</p>\n<p>Another is the sustainability of the resurgence in iPhone growth. There were high hopes among bulls that the iPhone 12 would drive a “supercycle” with an accelerated replacement cycle. Several analysts have noted that a clear consumer preference for the high end of the iPhone 12 line is driving up average selling prices, which should support a strong revenue quarter for the segment.</p>\n<p>“Given the later-than-seasonal launch of new iPhones in the fall of 2020, we believe iPhone demand will experience more favorable year-over-year comparisons this March quarter compared to past years,” writes Monness Crespi Hardt’s Brian White, who sees 47% iPhone revenue growth during the quarter.</p>\n<p>And if Apple pulls it all together? Apple could crush Street estimates, writes Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who has an Overweight rating and a $158 price target on the stock, up 17% from Monday’s close of $134.72. She sees the top line above $80 billion, with all segments growing at least 19% year over year. She is especially bullish on Mac and iPad sales, with estimates far above consensus—53% for Macs and 52% for iPads. Anticipation of the fall launch of the company’s first 5G phones, surging demand for both Macs and iPads as the pandemic rolled on, and strength in both wearables and services fed off each other. The pieces all came together in the December quarter, when Apple (ticker: AAPL) posted its biggest quarter ever. Sales soared 21% to $111.4 billion, more than $8 billion over the Street consensus. Every product category—iPhone, iPad, Macs, wearables, and services—notched double-digit growth. Apple stock finished the year up 81%, adding nearly $1 trillion to its market cap.\nThat’s a tough act to follow, particularly with the March quarter, which always slows from the holiday-boosted December quarter. But Apple could pull off the quintuple double again when its results come out after the bell Wednesday. The Street certainly thinks so, even if the market, which has pushed Apple shares up less than 2% in 2021, has been more cautious. Consensus estimates call for double-digit increases from last year across the board: iPhones sales up 43%, to $41.4 billion; iPad sales up 29%, to $5.6 billion; Mac sales of $6.8 billion, up 27%; wearables sales (mostly Apple Watch and AirPods) of $7.4 billion, up 18%; and a 16% bump in services, to $15.5 billion.\nOverall, the Street consensus expects sales of $77 billion, up 32% from a year ago, with profits of 98 cents a share. That would be the fastest top-line growth rate for any Apple quarter since March 2012, when revenues were about half what they are now. And most bullish Apple analysts seem to think their own estimates are too low—a print at $77 billion would likely trigger a selloff in the stock.\nApple is also expected to provide an update on its capital-allocation strategy. A year ago,the company announced a 6% dividend increase, and boosted its stock repurchase plan by $50 billion. Apple has said repeatedly that it is pushing to get to a cash neutral position, but its remarkably big cash flow has slowed progress toward that goal.\nAs always, the quarter is about more than just earnings.\nFor one, the Street will be looking for signs that the sales surge for Macs and iPads is sustainable—and that the company is keeping up with demand despite widespread chip and display shortages. Some investors worry that the spike in PC demand could ebb as more people return to schools and offices. They’ll be looking for company guidance on that point.\nAnother is the sustainability of the resurgence in iPhone growth. There were high hopes among bulls that the iPhone 12 would drive a “supercycle” with an accelerated replacement cycle. Several analysts have noted that a clear consumer preference for the high end of the iPhone 12 line is driving up average selling prices, which should support a strong revenue quarter for the segment.\n“Given the later-than-seasonal launch of new iPhones in the fall of 2020, we believe iPhone demand will experience more favorable year-over-year comparisons this March quarter compared to past years,” writes Monness Crespi Hardt’s Brian White, who sees 47% iPhone revenue growth during the quarter.\nAnd if Apple pulls it all together? Apple could crush Street estimates, writes Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who has an Overweight rating and a $158 price target on the stock, up 17% from Monday’s close of $134.72. She sees the top line above $80 billion, with all segments growing at least 19% year over year. She is especially bullish on Mac and iPad sales, with estimates far above consensus—53% for Macs and 52% for iPads. The&nbsp;Silicon Valley leader’s strength&nbsp;is its ability to diversify its business into new areas even as it retains a dominant market share in the legacy businesses in which it competes.</p>\n<p>Now in its 12th generation, the iPhone remains the&nbsp;bestselling smartphone&nbsp;in the world even as Apple branches out into new areas such as TV and movie streaming, as well as online payments. The company’s long-gestating plans to develop an&nbsp;electric carare still in play, according to multiple media reports.</p>\n<p>As long as Apple continues to expand into new areas it will remain a technology leader over the next decade and beyond. And that’s good news for Apple shareholders. Not that they haven’t been rewarded already.</p>\n<p>Since the start of 2011, APPL stock has risen 1,017%. In the past 12-months, the share price is up an even 100%, having risen from $67.09 to $134.09. And the stock had a&nbsp;four-for-one stock split&nbsp;at the end of August 2020.</p>\n<p>Anyway you look at it, Apple stock has delivered&nbsp;tremendous value&nbsp;to shareholders. With more to come.</p>\n<p><b>Nike (NKE)</b></p>\n<p>Investors looking for an undervalued blue-chip stock to add to their portfolio need look no further than Nike. The sneaker and apparel company headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon remains a consumer powerhouse with revenue in 2020 of $37.4 billion.</p>\n<p>The company remains the global leader when it comes to the&nbsp;sale of sneakers. Nike’s footwear sales last year totaled $23.3 billion, more than the other four major sports brands, including&nbsp;<b>Adidas</b>&nbsp;(OTCMARKETS:<b><u>ADDYY</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Under Armour</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:<b><u>UA</u></b>), combined. And Nike retains lucrative&nbsp;marketing deals&nbsp;with top professional athletes such as LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal.</p>\n<p>Despite the continued success, NKE stock has not kept pace with analysts’ expectations. At its current share price of $134.46, Nike stock is down 10% from its 52-week high of $147.95 reached in mid-January and woefully below the price targets of analysts.</p>\n<p>Consider that the&nbsp;lowest price target&nbsp;on the stock of $140 is above the current share price and you can begin to appreciate that Nike is undervalued. The median price target on the stock is $165.00 a share, representing a potential upside of 23%. The high target on the stock is $189. Investors should see a buying opportunity.</p>\n<p><b>General Motors (GM)</b></p>\n<p>Investors needn’t wonder where General Motors will be 10 years from now. The Detroit automaker has provided a&nbsp;clear road map&nbsp;of where it plans to go over the coming decade. Hint: it involves electric vehicles.</p>\n<p>GM is moving toward an all-electric future and plans to&nbsp;only sell electric vehicles&nbsp;by 2035, ending production of all vehicles that have diesel and gasoline-powered engines. The company has also announced a goal of being completely carbon neutral by 2040.</p>\n<p>General Motors even&nbsp;re-branded itself&nbsp;earlier this year to reflect its electric future. The company’s focus seems to fit with the&nbsp;green direction&nbsp;that the U.S. government is taking under President Biden, as well as investors who have pushed GM stock up 47% so far this year to $58.71 a share. In the past year, the share price has risen 161%.</p>\n<p>While General Motors has struggled in recent months with a global&nbsp;shortage of semiconductor microchips, that event is likely to be resolved in the short-term and shouldn’t obscure the fact that this company has a very bright future.</p>\n<p><b>Goldman Sachs (GS)</b></p>\n<p>New York investment bank Goldman Sachs does one thing: make money. And it pursues that goal with relentless determination. In good, bad and uncertain times, GS stock makes money and rewards its shareholders.</p>\n<p>The company’s most recent earnings report underscored just how adept it is at turning a profit no matter the situation. Goldman Sachs obliterated analysts’ expectations with record first-quarter&nbsp;profits and revenues&nbsp;due to its roaring investment banking and trading businesses.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs reported per-share earnings of $18.60, far above the $10.22 that had been expected by analysts. Revenue for the quarter came in at $17.7 billion, far above the $12.6 billion that analysts forecast.</p>\n<p>An onslaught of special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) deals in the first quarter helped push Goldman Sachs’ investment banking net revenues to a record $3.77 billion. A push into&nbsp;consumer banking&nbsp;and&nbsp;cryptocurrencies, as well as growing&nbsp;activities in China&nbsp;and elsewhere in Asia should ensure that Goldman Sachs continues minting money over the next decade.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon (AMZN)</b></p>\n<p>Does anyone think we’re going to stop shopping online after the pandemic? Neither does Amazon. The Seattle-based online retailer has permanently changed the way consumers purchase goods and services. While the Covid-19 pandemic helped to accelerate the switch to online shopping, there’s no reversing course at this point.</p>\n<p>Looking out over the next decade, there’s no reason to think that Amazon won’t continue to dominate the&nbsp;online shopping&nbsp;experience.</p>\n<p>Expanding its fulfilment centers, deploying delivery drones and growing its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform are just some of the ways in which Amazon is positioning itself for continued growth in the years ahead.</p>\n<p>And while AMZN stock has performed well, up 43% over the past 12 months at near $3,400 a share, there are many analysts who see the stock as undervalued at current levels. And among the country’s tech leaders, Alibaba is the closest thing to a a blue-chip company.</p>\n<p>The “Amazon of China,” Alibaba is a huge online retailer that is also extremely&nbsp;well diversified&nbsp;with operations ranging from online banking and cloud computing to artificial intelligence.</p>\n<p>While Alibaba has endured a myriad of problems over the past six months, from having its planned spin-off of Ant Financial cancelled by Chinese regulators to CEO Jack Ma effectively being sent into exile, none of those issues have been directly related to the company’s business performance. And business is booming.</p>\n<p>Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Alibaba still managed to grow its revenue 30% in the fourth and final quarter of 2020. The company’s long-gestating plans to develop an&nbsp;electric carare still in play, according to multiple media reports.</p>\n<p>As long as Apple continues to expand into new areas it will remain a technology leader over the next decade and beyond. And that’s good news for Apple shareholders. Not that they haven’t been rewarded already.</p>\n<p>Since the start of 2011, APPL stock has risen 1,017%. In the past 12-months, the share price is up an even 100%, having risen from $67.09 to $134.09. And the stock had a&nbsp;four-for-one stock split&nbsp;at the end of August 2020.</p>\n<p>Anyway you look at it, Apple stock has delivered&nbsp;tremendous value&nbsp;to shareholders. The sneaker and apparel company headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon remains a consumer powerhouse with revenue in 2020 of $37.4 billion.</p>\n<p>The company remains the global leader when it comes to the&nbsp;sale of sneakers. Nike’s footwear sales last year totaled $23.3 billion, more than the other four major sports brands, including&nbsp;<b>Adidas</b>&nbsp;(OTCMARKETS:<b><u>ADDYY</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Under Armour</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:<b><u>UA</u></b>), combined. And Nike retains lucrative&nbsp;marketing deals&nbsp;with top professional athletes such as LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal.</p>\n<p>Despite the continued success, NKE stock has not kept pace with analysts’ expectations. At its current share price of $134.46, Nike stock is down 10% from its 52-week high of $147.95 reached in mid-January and woefully below the price targets of analysts.</p>\n<p>Consider that the&nbsp;lowest price target&nbsp;on the stock of $140 is above the current share price and you can begin to appreciate that Nike is undervalued. The median price target on the stock is $165.00 a share, representing a potential upside of 23%. The high target on the stock is $189. Investors should see a buying opportunity.</p>\n<p><b>General Motors (GM)</b></p>\n<p>Investors needn’t wonder where General Motors will be 10 years from now. The Detroit automaker has provided a&nbsp;clear road map&nbsp;of where it plans to go over the coming decade. Hint: it involves electric vehicles.</p>\n<p>GM is moving toward an all-electric future and plans to&nbsp;only sell electric vehicles&nbsp;by 2035, ending production of all vehicles that have diesel and gasoline-powered engines. The company has also announced a goal of being completely carbon neutral by 2040.</p>\n<p>General Motors even&nbsp;re-branded itself&nbsp;earlier this year to reflect its electric future. The company’s focus seems to fit with the&nbsp;green direction&nbsp;that the U.S. government is taking under President Biden, as well as investors who have pushed GM stock up 47% so far this year to $58.71 a share. In the past year, the share price has risen 161%.</p>\n<p>While General Motors has struggled in recent months with a global&nbsp;shortage of semiconductor microchips, that event is likely to be resolved in the short-term and shouldn’t obscure the fact that this company has a very bright future.</p>\n<p><b>Goldman Sachs (GS)</b></p>\n<p>New York investment bank Goldman Sachs does one thing: make money. And it pursues that goal with relentless determination. In good, bad and uncertain times, GS stock makes money and rewards its shareholders.</p>\n<p>The company’s most recent earnings report underscored just how adept it is at turning a profit no matter the situation. Goldman Sachs obliterated analysts’ expectations with record first-quarter&nbsp;profits and revenues&nbsp;due to its roaring investment banking and trading businesses.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs reported per-share earnings of $18.60, far above the $10.22 that had been expected by analysts. Revenue for the quarter came in at $17.7 billion, far above the $12.6 billion that analysts forecast.</p>\n<p>An onslaught of special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) deals in the first quarter helped push Goldman Sachs’ investment banking net revenues to a record $3.77 billion. A push into&nbsp;consumer banking&nbsp;and&nbsp;cryptocurrencies, as well as growing&nbsp;activities in China&nbsp;and elsewhere in Asia should ensure that Goldman Sachs continues minting money over the next decade.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon (AMZN)</b></p>\n<p>Does anyone think we’re going to stop shopping online after the pandemic? Neither does Amazon. The Seattle-based online retailer has permanently changed the way consumers purchase goods and services. And among semiconductor companies, Santa Clara, California-based&nbsp;Nvidia is king.</p>\n<p>The company is one of the world’s largest chip makers and its graphics processing units power video games while its chip units support mobile computing and the automotive industry.</p>\n<p>Nvidia is also big in artificial intelligence and about to get bigger once its $40 billion deal to acquire British semiconductor and software design company Arm Ltd. closes.</p>\n<p>NVDA stock has&nbsp;climbed 40%&nbsp;in short order since March and is now trading just off its all-time high of $650.
