The e-commerce platform initially went public in December at $20 per share before surging to an all-time high of $32 in February due to a momentum-driven rally. That said, shares have steadily plunged ever since, hitting an all-time low of just $7 in June, but are now recovering swiftly after increased interest from the retail trading sector. Here, the stock is favored due to its high volatility, short interest, and enormous upside potential.</p>\n<p>In this context, I believe that the high short interest has increasingly pushed shares below fair value and that patient investors could soon see $20 or more again as the company is working through logistic challenges and will soon return to economies of scale. In this regard, the e-commerce platform has a unique value proposition and is well-positioned to gain market share in a $6 trillion e-commerce industry.</p>\n<p><b>The Digital Dollar Tree</b></p>\n<p>Wish has been criticized heavily as an e-commerce platform, and I would almost argue that its image of being a third-party 'dropshipping' site for Chinese merchants has kept investors away from the stock so far. However, this may only be partially true. Essentially, Wish has inverted Amazon's(NASDAQ:AMZN)business model through low-priced (low-quality) products and sluggish delivery times that may lead to week-long delivery times. This is because Wish does not handle shipping itself, which is why it can offer these ultra-low prices of offering a hoodie for $2 plus $2 shipping.</p>\n<p>Frankly, Wish is still dependent on Chinese merchants, accounting for most of its product catalogs. This is unsurprising, considering that most goods are produced in China as the production costs are among the lowest in the world. Most of the goods being sold on Amazon or eBay(NASDAQ:EBAY)were also produced in China, although they earn a higher perception due to one-day delivery shipping programs or higher prices.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bea733440e86851af57559c6a5fd6bd\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"363\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Now, I view Wish as the digital dollar tree, where online shoppers discover items that they want, not need. In the process, customers have more patience for products and are willing to wait longer for them to arrive. Wish is working towards addressing both of these issues (quality and merchant diversification) as its platform is gaining popularity. Here, it has been investing in logistics to offer quicker delivery, demonstrated by a 275% YoY increase in logistics revenue. Since these revenues provide low margins, its overall gross margins have decreased in accordance. However, once it achieves economies of scale in the segment, margin growth should reverse and trail back towards 70%.</p>\n<p>It is also addressing the second issue by continuously growing its international merchant base. Here, U.S. merchants increased by over 400% YoY, and a similar trend is to be seen in other countries. Moreover, it is growing Wish Local, a service connecting local businesses to the platform, accounting for 7% of all Wish orders. Wish local is mostly (or exclusively) available in the United States and thus increasingly mixes with other products on the website.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/09eb88453d075db6b7b8edd21f981b4a\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"381\"><span>Source: Sensor Tower</span></p>\n<p>I also like Wish's strategy to engage and retain users by utilizing an AI matching system that optimizes platform growth, user experience, and merchant return on investment. The strategy to create an interactive mobile shopping experience appears to be working well: Impressively, Wish gets over500,000reviews per day from users, surpassing even Amazon and other shopping sites in this regard, demonstrating just about how engaging the platform is. Around 80% of first-time shoppersreturnto buy again.</p>\n<p>Wish is, therefore, able to establish itself in the highly competitive E-commerce market that offers a tremendous runway for growth. Currently, around 40% of the E-commerce market share is owned just by Amazon. Compared to Amazon, its TAM may be limited as it concentrates on its lower-income niche, which is how it became popular in the first place. Still, this represents a +$3 trillion market opportunity for Wish to tap into. It is also worth noting that according toreports, Amazon tried to acquire Wish for $10 billion, yet Wish rejected, believing growing the business to $100 billion in annual sales, at which point it would be valued significantly higher.</p>\n<p><b>Negative Sentiment Baked In</b></p>\n<p>Wish's first two quarters have been slightly disappointing. While the company handily beat revenue estimates, the company burned through over $300 million in cash in order to invest in logistics. This is totally fine unless it grows its active buyers through marketing, which unfortunately has not been the case. This is a red flag and questions the long-term sustainability of Wish's business model. However, the company has been close to being cash flow positive, and it stated it already would be profitable if it weren't for its extensive marketing expense. That said, as long as Wish acquires new MAUs and increases value through logistic services, its marketing expenses pay off in the long run. Moreover, as a percentage of total revenues, Wish's marketing expenses have dropped to 60%, down from 67% in the year prior.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e18c23728274ee708d896923820b282\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"278\"><span>Source: Wish IR</span></p>\n<p>In terms of the outlook, this is what the company is essentially stressing. It believes marketing expenses can decrease to 40-45%, leading to EBITDA margins of 25% at the midpoint range. If it achieves these ambitious goals (which is very well possible), its profitability margins would be similar to those of eBay or MercadoLibre(NASDAQ:MELI). In either way, Wish's business model is not perfect, but all these concerns are more than baked in its current valuation, IMO (In My Opinion).</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/54029f94c37f301d26e93a11636280e7\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"470\"><span>Data byYCharts</span></p>\n<p>Even after the latest +50% rise, shares are still trailing far behind peers such as Poshmark(NASDAQ:POSH), eBay, Amazon, and (Shopify(NYSE:SHOP)). At over $3 billion estimated revenues, Wish is trading at just 1.8x Price to Sales, just half of eBay's current valuation and much lower than Poshmark. Current estimates are calling for over $6 billion in revenues by 2025 and $1 billion in free cash flow, meaning that Wish trades at just 7x free cash flow estimates, or 1 times sales. In early 2021, its P/S ratio stood closer to 5x, so there is potential for a valuation expansion.</p>\n<p><b>What about the Lawsuits?</b></p>\n<p>Perhaps you've seen the news (especially on Yahoo Finance) regarding the class actionlawsuits. These lawsuits are extensively posted to remind investors of recovering incurred losses after its share price dropped in recent months. Such lawsuits are not unusual when stocks drop sharply in a short period of time and are likely of no concern to investors. These lawsuits have also included companies such asCloverHealth(NASDAQ:CLOV), Skillz(NYSE:SKLZ), Array Technologies(NASDAQ:ARRY), etc.</p>\n<p>Short Interest - Still High</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/875b3fdaf74f1ef639b51d77a3aac01f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"360\"><span>Source: Fintel</span></p>\n<p>Wish has gained significant attraction from retail investors, as investors were looking for the next big short squeeze. Since most of Wish's shares have still been locked up, its exact short ratio was difficult to estimate. According to Seeking Alpha, the current short ratio stands at just 7%, but the figure is likely higher. Last week, its short interest as a percent of its equity float stood at roughly 48%, according to Bloomberg Terminal data. Other sources such as Fintel pin the current short volume at 20-30%. Now, it's difficult to give an exact estimate, but generally speaking, it's probably somewhere within this range, and many short calls are still to be covered. In the long term, the high-short interest could be an advantage, leading to a quicker acceleration if the stock begins trending upwards.</p>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line</b></p>\n<p>I believe that Wish remains one of the most underappreciated assets within e-commerce, boasting over 100 million monthly users on its platform and connecting thousands of merchants from all over the world. The mobile shopping app continues to be one of the top downloaded shopping apps in the space and has a unique value proposition, which is smarter than it appears at first sight. Moreover, its latestpartnershipwith PrestaShop will give over 300,000 merchants free access to a direct integration that connects them directly to Wish's merchant dashboard, further driving growth. Something's got to give.</p>\n<p>The US government reported last week that consumer prices, excluding food and energy, rose at their fastest clip since 1992 in May. Sherwin-Williams (SHW) is lifting the price of paint, one of many companies that's responding to higher commodities costs.</p>\n<p>Food prices are also surging. Chipotle (CMG) just raised prices. So did Campbell Soup (CPB).</p>\n<p>And the chief financial officer of restaurant and arcade chain Dave &amp; Buster's (PLAY) said during a recent earnings call with analysts that he expects a 6% to 8% increase in food costs for 2021 due to higher chicken, beef and dairy prices.</p>\n<p>Wages are rising too, especially for workers in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors that are returning to jobs as the economy reopens. That adds to inflationary pressures, because some companies will choose to hike prices in order to maintain profits.</p>\n<p>Labor shortages aren't helping.</p>\n<p>The CEO of online pet retailer Chewy (CHWY) wrote in a letter to shareholders after its latest earnings report that it \"faced labor shortages in our fulfillment centers similar to those being faced by many companies nationwide.\" As a result, Chewy continues \"to invest in higher wages and benefits\" in order to fill job vacancies.</p>\n<p>Yet investors — and the Federal Reserve — are shrugging off rising inflation as \"transitory.\" Long-term bond yields are falling, which isn't what normally happens when inflation runs hot. If bond investors believed that price hikes are here to stay, they'd be demanding higher yields.</p>\n<p>And the market is pricing in just a 3% chance of a rate hike from the Fed by the end of the year. That's down from a 10% likelihood of higher rates just a month ago. Investors know a rate hike is the central bank's best tool to fight rising inflation, and they'll want to hear more on the subject when Fed chair Jerome Powell speaks at a press conference on Wednesday.</p>\n<p>\"The bond market is still not concerned about inflation. It's buying what the Fed is selling,\" said Randy Warren, CEO of Warren Financial.</p>\n<p>The problem is that there is a chance the Fed could wait too long to react to inflation.</p>\n<p>\"Is inflation transitory or something more structural?\" asked Steven Oh, global head of credit and fixed income with PineBridge Investments. \"Will the Fed lose control of it down the road and make a policy error and not have the ability to rein it in?\"</p>\n<p>If the Fed and bond market are wrong about inflation, the central bank may have to wind down its pandemic stimulus much more quickly than it — and investors — would like. That would mean unwinding its big asset purchases and raising rates sooner rather than later.</p>\n<p>Oh doesn't think that will be the case. And many others agree. They argue that investors must keep in mind how rapidly the economy has roared back.</p>\n<p>For that reason, it should not be that big of a surprise that there are dislocations in the job market and supply chain. It will take time for conditions to revert to what they were like in late 2019 and early 2020 before Covid-19.</p>\n<p>\"There are a lot of questions about inflation because you see it in everyday life,\" said Bryan Koslow, principal of Clarus Group, a wealth management firm. \"But we may have seen the peak, especially in terms of wage growth.\"</p>\n<p>Even if that does turn out to be true, the mere fact that investors and consumers are so focused on prices is noteworthy. Inflation has essentially been a non-issue for more than a decade.</p>\n<p>\"The Fed has to take the inflation concerns seriously,\" said Troy Gayeski, co-chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager at SkyBridge Capital. He added that he thinks there is a 20% chance that inflation pressures turn out to be more persistent as opposed to transitory.</p>\n<p>\"The risk of meaningful inflation has been non-existent since 2008. Until now,\" Gayeski said.</p>\n<p><b>What's getting more expensive</b></p>\n<p>Food and paint aren't the only things getting more expensive. As CNN Business' Moira Ritter points out, the prices of just about everything have gone up lately.</p>\n<p>Lumber prices have soared. And the housing market continues to boom. That's led to a big spike in the prices of couches and other household furnishings.</p>\n<p>Used cars are a lot more expensive too. Chalk that up to people returning to work and a dearth of new cars on dealership lots due to the chip supply shortage that has hurt production of new vehicles.</p>\n<p>People are traveling more as well. Sherwin-Williams (SHW) is lifting the price of paint, one of many companies that's responding to higher commodities costs.\nFood prices are also surging. Chipotle (CMG) just raised prices. So did Campbell Soup (CPB).\nAnd the chief financial officer of restaurant and arcade chain Dave & Buster's (PLAY) said during a recent earnings call with analysts that he expects a 6% to 8% increase in food costs for 2021 due to higher chicken, beef and dairy prices.\nWages are rising too, especially for workers in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors that are returning to jobs as the economy reopens. That adds to inflationary pressures, because some companies will choose to hike prices in order to maintain profits.\nLabor shortages aren't helping.\nThe CEO of online pet retailer Chewy (CHWY) wrote in a letter to shareholders after its latest earnings report that it \"faced labor shortages in our fulfillment centers similar to those being faced by many companies nationwide.\" As a result, Chewy continues \"to invest in higher wages and benefits\" in order to fill job vacancies.\nYet investors — and the Federal Reserve — are shrugging off rising inflation as \"transitory.\" Long-term bond yields are falling, which isn't what normally happens when inflation runs hot. If bond investors believed that price hikes are here to stay, they'd be demanding higher yields.\nAnd the market is pricing in just a 3% chance of a rate hike from the Fed by the end of the year. That's down from a 10% likelihood of higher rates just a month ago. Investors know a rate hike is the central bank's best tool to fight rising inflation, and they'll want to hear more on the subject when Fed chair Jerome Powell speaks at a press conference on Wednesday.\n\"The bond market is still not concerned about inflation. It's buying what the Fed is selling,\" said Randy Warren, CEO of Warren Financial.\nThe problem is that there is a chance the Fed could wait too long to react to inflation.\n\"Is inflation transitory or something more structural?\" asked Steven Oh, global head of credit and fixed income with PineBridge Investments. \"Will the Fed lose control of it down the road and make a policy error and not have the ability to rein it in?\"\nIf the Fed and bond market are wrong about inflation, the central bank may have to wind down its pandemic stimulus much more quickly than it — and investors — would like. That would mean unwinding its big asset purchases and raising rates sooner rather than later.\nOh doesn't think that will be the case. And many others agree. They argue that investors must keep in mind how rapidly the economy has roared back.\nFor that reason, it should not be that big of a surprise that there are dislocations in the job market and supply chain. It will take time for conditions to revert to what they were like in late 2019 and early 2020 before Covid-19.\n\"There are a lot of questions about inflation because you see it in everyday life,\" said Bryan Koslow, principal of Clarus Group, a wealth management firm. \"But we may have seen the peak, especially in terms of wage growth.\"\nEven if that does turn out to be true, the mere fact that investors and consumers are so focused on prices is noteworthy. Inflation has essentially been a non-issue for more than a decade.\n\"The Fed has to take the inflation concerns seriously,\" said Troy Gayeski, co-chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager at SkyBridge Capital. He added that he thinks there is a 20% chance that inflation pressures turn out to be more persistent as opposed to transitory.\n\"The risk of meaningful inflation has been non-existent since 2008. Until now,\" Gayeski said.\nWhat's getting more expensive\nFood and paint aren't the only things getting more expensive. As CNN Business' Moira Ritter points out, the prices of just about everything have gone up lately.\nLumber prices have soared. And the housing market continues to boom. That's led to a big spike in the prices of couches and other household furnishings.\nUsed cars are a lot more expensive too. Chalk that up to people returning to work and a dearth of new cars on dealership lots due to the chip supply shortage that has hurt production of new vehicles.\nPeople are traveling more as well. SLYV rallied 32% this year through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>That more than doubles the return of its growth stock counterpart, SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth (SLYG), which is up 15%. The index SLYG tracks includes stocks with the strongest growth traits based on sales growth, earnings change to price and momentum.</p>\n<p>Back to SLYV, financials accounted for the biggest sector weight at 24% of assets. Industrials weighed in at about 17%, consumer discretionary 15% and real estate 10%. Information technology was next at 8% and materials, energy and health care, 6% each.&nbsp;Smaller positions in consumer staples, utilities and communication services made up the rest.</p>\n<p>SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Value is in IBD's ETF Leaders, but SPDR S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Growth is not.</p>\n<p><b>GameStop Stock Leads</b></p>\n<p><b>GameStop</b>(GME),<b>Macy's</b>(M),<b>PDC Energy</b>(PDCE),<b>Resideo Technologies</b>(REZI) and<b>BankUnited</b>(BKU) were the top five holdings as of Wednesday.</p>\n<p><b>Pacific Premier Bancorp</b>(PPBI),<b>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond</b>(BBBY),<b>Ameris Bancorp</b>(ABCB),<b>First Hawaiian</b>(FHB) and<b>Insight Enterprises</b>(NSIT) rounded out the top 10.</p>\n<p>GameStop has undergone wide swings this year. It rocketed about 2,500% early this year amid theshort-squeeze rallyfueled by the Reddit/WallStreetBets crowd.GME stockthen crashed 92% from a Jan. 28 high to its mid-February low. That was followed by an 805% surge the next three weeks, and a 66% drop over the next two weeks.</p>\n<p>Action had been relatively subdued since, until Thursday's 27% dive. Even after that, GameStop stock was up 1,070% year to date through Thursday's close.</p>\n<p>Could GME be inflating SLYV's performance? Certainly, given its quadruple-digit gain. But a look at SLYG's portfolio is interesting. GameStop stock is also the top holding in the growth stock ETF, though the rest of the top 10 differ vastly.</p>\n<p><b>Second Meme Stock In Top 10</b></p>\n<p>PDC Energy, up 130%, saw the next biggest gain in the top 10. The Colorado-based oil and gas explorer has a 97Relative Strength Rating, which mean it's in the top 3% of all stocks. Its relative strength line is at a 52-week high, a bullish sign.</p>\n<p>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, another meme stock, is up 78% this year. Shares surged more than 200% in January, amid a spate of wild double-digit swings. BBBY stock then gave back the bulk of its gains.</p>\n<p>But the home goods retailer appears to be back on the radar of the WallStreetBets discussion group. On June 2, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond soared 62% before diving 28% the next session.</p>\n<p>The rest of the top 10 stocks have also outperformed the broader market. Macy's is up 68% year to date, while Resideo, Pacific Premier and Ameris have risen more than 40% each. The lowest gainer, bank holding company First Hawaiian, has advanced 20%. In one week, AMC stock rallied 157% higher, dropped 33% and then rose again by 25%.</p>\n<p>It’s been quite the rollercoaster. And what has driven the #AMCArmy of retail investors to push the share price sky high has been the fact that the world’s largest movie theatre chain was brought to theedge of bankruptcyby the Covid-19 pandemic. That, and the stock has been one of the most heavily shorted on Wall Street this year.</p>\n<p>But AMC’s problems are not unique. And, like AMC and other movie theatre chains, Cineplex has had a tough go of it during the pandemic.</p>\n<p>CPXGFstock is now tradingat $13.48 a share, about half the $25.41 it was at in February 2020 before Covid-19 landed. The share price had been as low as $3.30 a share last October after the company reported its quarterly revenue plunged 95%.</p>\n<p>In addition to having its theatres shuttered for nearly a year and reopened with capacity limits, Cineplex has had to cope with a litany of other problems. First, Britain’s Cineworld Group backed out of adeal to acquire Cineplexfor $2.18 billion, a deal that would have made the merged companies the biggest operator of movie theaters in North America. Then, the company’s stock was removed fromCanada’s benchmark stock index, the<b>S&amp;P/TSX Composite Index</b>, and it was forced to sell its its head office in Toronto for $57 million CAD ($47 million) in order to raise cash to pay down debt.</p>\n<p>At last check, Cineplex was negotiating toreceive relief from its creditorsas it eagerly awaits the start of the summer movie season.</p>\n<p><b>Walt Disney (DIS)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/07f8afcac0c7c6dd3846e904c09efbf7\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>DIS stock has had a great run over the past year, propped up by the meteoric rise of the company’s Disney+ streaming service. The Walt Disney streaming service that is home to popular film and television franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel superheroes and Pixar animation grew to103.6 million subscriberswithin 18 months of launching and kept the Mouse House afloat during the pandemic while its theme parks and cruise lines were closed.</p>\n<p>However, the shine has come off DIS stock recently over concerns that growth in the company’s streaming service will now begin to slow.</p>\n<p>However, asa diversified company, Walt Disney should perform well as its theme parks around the world reopen this summer, its cruises set sail again, and it begins developing new content for the Disney+ platform. And, the company hopes to keep its growth in streaming robust by bundling Disney+ with other content offerings that include the sports-related ESPN Plus platform and movies and TV shows offered through Hulu, both of which Disney owns. With so much diversification, it likely won’t be long before DIS stock recovers and tests new highs.</p>\n<p>DIS stock is currently at $176.81, down 13% from its 52-week high of $203.02 a share reached in March.</p>\n<p><b>Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF.A)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/07033460d0624cdd53042a5aa7052595\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"199\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: ©iStock.com/diego_cervo</p>\n<p>Lions Gate Entertainment is a producer of popular films and TV programs, including the<i>Hunger Games</i>,<i>John Wick</i>and<i>Saw</i>movie franchises and the Emmy Award-winning TV series<i>Mad Men</i>. The company that started life in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1997, Lions Gate is today headquartered in Santa Monica, California. Coming out of the pandemic, CEO Jon Feltheimer islooking to be acquiredby a larger studio.</p>\n<p>Investment bank<b>Loop Capital</b>has put a price target on Lions Gate of $8 billion and said any acquirer would get arich catalogueof content that also includes the<i>John Wick</i>and<i>Expendables</i>movie series, as well as TV shows such as<i>Nurse Jackie</i>,<i>Nashville</i>and<i>Weeds</i>. However, this isn’t the first time that Lions Gate hasput out a ‘for sale’ sign. The company held talks in 2018 with<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>) and<b>Comcast</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CMCSA</u></b>)about a possible acquisition, though nothing ultimately came from the discussions.</p>\n<p>LGF.A stock has had a strong run, up 82% year-to-date to $20.21 a share.</p>\n<p><b>Netflix (NFLX)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/55a3532d6172fc7628916587da288c86\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Riccosta / Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>NFLX stock has beenunder pressurelately as fears grow that the boost the company received during the pandemic is over. Netflix’s most recent earnings results did nothing to ease the fears of Wall Street. The Silicon Valley-based streaming giant reported on April 20 that it added 3.98 million subscribers in the first quarter, missing Wall Street’s estimate of 6.29 million subscribers and its own forecast of 6 million.</p>\n<p>The current quarter looks even worse with Netflix forecasting only a million new customers worldwide, less than a quarter of the 4.44 million forecast by analysts.</p>\n<p>To be fair, Netflix is largely a victim of its own success. After adding more than20 million new subscriberslast year (2020), growth was bound to level off at some point. Today, Netflix has nearly 208 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix’s subscriber growth has also been hurt by a lack of new content as TV and movie productions were halted during the pandemic.</p>\n<p>The company hopes to release a glut of new content later this year and is targeting Asia, where subscriptions grew 65% last year, for continued growth.</p>\n<p>NFLX stock has fallen 11.6% since its last quarterly results release and now trades at $485.81 a share.</p>\n<p><b>Cinemark Holdings (CNK)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9e9adffdcac440f98a123a3874db0146\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: LukeandKarla.Travel/Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>Another major U.S. movie theatre chain besides AMC is Plano, Texas-based Cinemark Holdings. Founded in 1961, Cinemark operates movie theatres under several brands, including Cinemark, Century Theatres and Tinseltown. The company is also global with operations as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil. At its current price of $23.21 a share,CNK stockis currently at about half the $40 a share it was trading at in the summer before the global pandemic.</p>\n<p>Cinemark Holdingsrevenue got hammeredover the past year as its theatres around the world were shut. Revenues for 2020 came in at $700 million, down 80% from $3.3 billion in 2019. Losses for last year came in at record $5.25 per share.</p>\n<p>Things are beginning to improve as Covid-19 vaccination rates accelerate and with aslate of blockbuster movieson deck for the coming summer months. However, currently the majority of Cinemark Holdings theatres are operating at 50% capacity as pandemic restrictions remain in place in most jurisdictions.</p>\n<p><b>IMAX (IMAX)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/32ee2bd29b44f561b3e38ce1867198f8\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: imageAllan / Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>Canadian theatre company IMAX Corporation, which makes giant movie screens and the films that are shown on them, is another company that will be glad to see both the pandemic and the AMC stock rally end.</p>\n<p>Investment bank<b>Goldman Sachs</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GS</u></b>) recentlydowngraded IMAX stockto “sell” from “neutral” and lowered its 12-month price target on the shares to $18.60, which would be a 16% drop from the current share price of $22.04.</p>\n<p>Goldman forecasts that the U.S. box office will only recover to about three-quarters of its pre-pandemic levels, noting that movie theater attendance had been in decline before the pandemic. The bank also warned that a glut of new theatrical releases will lead new movies to cannibalize each other this summer.</p>\n<p>Despite the negative sentiment, IMAX remains hopeful. Pre-sales of the IMAX version of the upcoming<i>Fast &amp; Furious</i>film (the ninth in that series) recentlyset a record in China, one of IMAX’s biggest markets globally.</p>\n<p><b>Marcus Corp. (MCS)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8fdb7f52844c139b36c32ccbbcdfe167\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>Regional operator Marcus Corp. is the fourth-largest movie theatre operator in America. Its1,110 screensare primarily located in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company also owns 17 hotels and resorts in the Midwest, as well as California and Texas.</p>\n<p>The company’s first-quarter revenue came in at $50.8 million, 69% less than last year’s comparable revenue of $159.5 million.</p>\n<p>However, Marcus’ cash position remains strong, with the company reporting cash reserves of $213 million at the end ofthis year’ first quarter. Still, the pandemic has taken a toll on Marcus’ business and share price. MCS stock has traded as low as $6.84 and as high as $24.71 over the past year. And like allmeme stock rallies, the latest one involving movie theatre chain AMC is likely to end in spectacular fashion. In one week, AMC stock rallied 157% higher, dropped 33% and then rose again by 25%.\nIt’s been quite the rollercoaster. And what has driven the #AMCArmy of retail investors to push the share price sky high has been the fact that the world’s largest movie theatre chain was brought to theedge of bankruptcyby the Covid-19 pandemic. That, and the stock has been one of the most heavily shorted on Wall Street this year.\nBut AMC’s problems are not unique. The entire movie industry, from production to exhibition, has beendevastated by the pandemicand many companies have struggled just like AMC.\nHere are seven movie stocks ready for the #AMCArmy finale.\n\nCineplex(OTCMKTS:CPXGF)\nWalt Disney(NYSE:DIS)\nLions Gate Entertainment(NYSE:LGF.A)\nNetflix(NASDAQ:NFLX)\nCinemark Holdings(NYSE:CNK)\nIMAX(NYSE:IMAX)\nMarcus Corporation(NYSE:MCS)\n\nMovie Stocks: Cineplex (CPXGF)Source: Shutterstock\nToronto-based Cineplex, which operates more than 165 movie theatres across Canada, has been in business since Charlie Chaplin was making silent pictures. And, like AMC and other movie theatre chains, Cineplex has had a tough go of it during the pandemic.\nCPXGFstock is now tradingat $13.48 a share, about half the $25.41 it was at in February 2020 before Covid-19 landed. The share price had been as low as $3.30 a share last October after the company reported its quarterly revenue plunged 95%.\nIn addition to having its theatres shuttered for nearly a year and reopened with capacity limits, Cineplex has had to cope with a litany of other problems. First, Britain’s Cineworld Group backed out of adeal to acquire Cineplexfor $2.18 billion, a deal that would have made the merged companies the biggest operator of movie theaters in North America. Then, the company’s stock was removed fromCanada’s benchmark stock index, theS&P/TSX Composite Index, and it was forced to sell its its head office in Toronto for $57 million CAD ($47 million) in order to raise cash to pay down debt.\nAt last check, Cineplex was negotiating toreceive relief from its creditorsas it eagerly awaits the start of the summer movie season.\nWalt Disney (DIS)Source: Shutterstock\nDIS stock has had a great run over the past year, propped up by the meteoric rise of the company’s Disney+ streaming service. The Walt Disney streaming service that is home to popular film and television franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel superheroes and Pixar animation grew to103.6 million subscriberswithin 18 months of launching and kept the Mouse House afloat during the pandemic while its theme parks and cruise lines were closed.\nHowever, the shine has come off DIS stock recently over concerns that growth in the company’s streaming service will now begin to slow.\nHowever, asa diversified company, Walt Disney should perform well as its theme parks around the world reopen this summer, its cruises set sail again, and it begins developing new content for the Disney+ platform. And, the company hopes to keep its growth in streaming robust by bundling Disney+ with other content offerings that include the sports-related ESPN Plus platform and movies and TV shows offered through Hulu, both of which Disney owns. Coming out of the pandemic, CEO Jon Feltheimer islooking to be acquiredby a larger studio.\nInvestment bankLoop Capitalhas put a price target on Lions Gate of $8 billion and said any acquirer would get arich catalogueof content that also includes theJohn WickandExpendablesmovie series, as well as TV shows such asNurse Jackie,NashvilleandWeeds. However, this isn’t the first time that Lions Gate hasput out a ‘for sale’ sign. The company held talks in 2018 withAmazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) andComcast(NASDAQ:CMCSA)about a possible acquisition, though nothing ultimately came from the discussions.\nLGF.A stock has had a strong run, up 82% year-to-date to $20.21 a share.\nNetflix (NFLX)Source: Riccosta / Shutterstock.com\nNFLX stock has beenunder pressurelately as fears grow that the boost the company received during the pandemic is over. Netflix’s most recent earnings results did nothing to ease the fears of Wall Street. The Silicon Valley-based streaming giant reported on April 20 that it added 3.98 million subscribers in the first quarter, missing Wall Street’s estimate of 6.29 million subscribers and its own forecast of 6 million.\nThe current quarter looks even worse with Netflix forecasting only a million new customers worldwide, less than a quarter of the 4.44 million forecast by analysts.\nTo be fair, Netflix is largely a victim of its own success. After adding more than20 million new subscriberslast year (2020), growth was bound to level off at some point. Today, Netflix has nearly 208 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix’s subscriber growth has also been hurt by a lack of new content as TV and movie productions were halted during the pandemic.\nThe company hopes to release a glut of new content later this year and is targeting Asia, where subscriptions grew 65% last year, for continued growth.\nNFLX stock has fallen 11.6% since its last quarterly results release and now trades at $485.81 a share.\nCinemark Holdings (CNK)Source: LukeandKarla.Travel/Shutterstock.com\nAnother major U.S. movie theatre chain besides AMC is Plano, Texas-based Cinemark Holdings. Founded in 1961, Cinemark operates movie theatres under several brands, including Cinemark, Century Theatres and Tinseltown. The company is also global with operations as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil. At its current price of $23.21 a share,CNK stockis currently at about half the $40 a share it was trading at in the summer before the global pandemic.\nCinemark Holdingsrevenue got hammeredover the past year as its theatres around the world were shut. Revenues for 2020 came in at $700 million, down 80% from $3.3 billion in 2019. Losses for last year came in at record $5.25 per share.\nThings are beginning to improve as Covid-19 vaccination rates accelerate and with aslate of blockbuster movieson deck for the coming summer months. However, currently the majority of Cinemark Holdings theatres are operating at 50% capacity as pandemic restrictions remain in place in most jurisdictions.\nIMAX (IMAX)Source: imageAllan / Shutterstock.com\nCanadian theatre company IMAX Corporation, which makes giant movie screens and the films that are shown on them, is another company that will be glad to see both the pandemic and the AMC stock rally end.\nInvestment bankGoldman Sachs(NYSE:GS) recentlydowngraded IMAX stockto “sell” from “neutral” and lowered its 12-month price target on the shares to $18.60, which would be a 16% drop from the current share price of $22.04.\nGoldman forecasts that the U.S. box office will only recover to about three-quarters of its pre-pandemic levels, noting that movie theater attendance had been in decline before the pandemic. The bank also warned that a glut of new theatrical releases will lead new movies to cannibalize each other this summer.\nDespite the negative sentiment, IMAX remains hopeful. Pre-sales of the IMAX version of the upcomingFast & Furiousfilm (the ninth in that series) recentlyset a record in China, one of IMAX’s biggest markets globally.\nMarcus Corp. Its1,110 screensare primarily located in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company also owns 17 hotels and resorts in the Midwest, as well as California and Texas.\nThe company’s first-quarter revenue came in at $50.8 million, 69% less than last year’s comparable revenue of $159.5 million.\nHowever, Marcus’ cash position remains strong, with the company reporting cash reserves of $213 million at the end ofthis year’ first quarter. Still, the pandemic has taken a toll on Marcus’ business and share price. MCS stock has traded as low as $6.84 and as high as $24.71 over the past year. Economists forecast an 83 reading, matching the May figure. Home builders remain very bullish on the housing market but are concerned about the availability and cost of building materials.</p>\n<p><b>The Census Bureau</b>&nbsp;reports retail-sales data for May. Expectations are for a 0.5% month-over-month decline, following a flat April. Excluding autos, spending is seen rising 0.6%, compared with a 0.8% decrease previously.</p>\n<p><b>The Bureau of Labor</b>&nbsp;Statistics releases the producer price index for May. Consensus estimate is for a 0.4% monthly increase, with the core PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, expected to rise 0.4% as well. The LEI is expected to rise 1.1% month over month to 114.5, after gaining 1.6% in April. The index has now surpassed its pre-Covid peak, set back in January of 2020. The Conference Board now projects 8% to 9% annualized gross-domestic-product growth for the second quarter, and 6.4% for the year.</p>\n<p><b>The Department of Labor</b>&nbsp;reports initial jobless claims for the week ending on June 15. So did Campbell Soup (CPB).</p>\n<p>And the chief financial officer of restaurant and arcade chain Dave &amp; Buster's (PLAY) said during a recent earnings call with analysts that he expects a 6% to 8% increase in food costs for 2021 due to higher chicken, beef and dairy prices.</p>\n<p>Wages are rising too, especially for workers in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors that are returning to jobs as the economy reopens. That adds to inflationary pressures, because some companies will choose to hike prices in order to maintain profits.</p>\n<p>Labor shortages aren't helping.</p>\n<p>The CEO of online pet retailer Chewy (CHWY) wrote in a letter to shareholders after its latest earnings report that it \"faced labor shortages in our fulfillment centers similar to those being faced by many companies nationwide.\" As a result, Chewy continues \"to invest in higher wages and benefits\" in order to fill job vacancies.</p>\n<p>Yet investors — and the Federal Reserve — are shrugging off rising inflation as \"transitory.\" Long-term bond yields are falling, which isn't what normally happens when inflation runs hot. If bond investors believed that price hikes are here to stay, they'd be demanding higher yields.</p>\n<p>And the market is pricing in just a 3% chance of a rate hike from the Fed by the end of the year. That's down from a 10% likelihood of higher rates just a month ago. Investors know a rate hike is the central bank's best tool to fight rising inflation, and they'll want to hear more on the subject when Fed chair Jerome Powell speaks at a press conference on Wednesday.</p>\n<p>\"The bond market is still not concerned about inflation. It will take time for conditions to revert to what they were like in late 2019 and early 2020 before Covid-19.</p>\n<p>\"There are a lot of questions about inflation because you see it in everyday life,\" said Bryan Koslow, principal of Clarus Group, a wealth management firm. \"But we may have seen the peak, especially in terms of wage growth.\"</p>\n<p>Even if that does turn out to be true, the mere fact that investors and consumers are so focused on prices is noteworthy. Inflation has essentially been a non-issue for more than a decade.</p>\n<p>\"The Fed has to take the inflation concerns seriously,\" said Troy Gayeski, co-chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager at SkyBridge Capital. That's led to a big spike in the prices of couches and other household furnishings.</p>\n<p>Used cars are a lot more expensive too. The e-commerce platform initially went public in December at $20 per share before surging to an all-time high of $32 in February due to a momentum-driven rally. That said, shares have steadily plunged ever since, hitting an all-time low of just $7 in June, but are now recovering swiftly after increased interest from the retail trading sector. Here, the stock is favored due to its high volatility, short interest, and enormous upside potential.</p>\n<p>In this context, I believe that the high short interest has increasingly pushed shares below fair value and that patient investors could soon see $20 or more again as the company is working through logistic challenges and will soon return to economies of scale. In this regard, the e-commerce platform has a unique value proposition and is well-positioned to gain market share in a $6 trillion e-commerce industry.</p>\n<p><b>The Digital Dollar Tree</b></p>\n<p>Wish has been criticized heavily as an e-commerce platform, and I would almost argue that its image of being a third-party 'dropshipping' site for Chinese merchants has kept investors away from the stock so far. However, this may only be partially true. Essentially, Wish has inverted Amazon's(NASDAQ:AMZN)business model through low-priced (low-quality) products and sluggish delivery times that may lead to week-long delivery times. This is because Wish does not handle shipping itself, which is why it can offer these ultra-low prices of offering a hoodie for $2 plus $2 shipping.</p>\n<p>Frankly, Wish is still dependent on Chinese merchants, accounting for most of its product catalogs. This is unsurprising, considering that most goods are produced in China as the production costs are among the lowest in the world. Most of the goods being sold on Amazon or eBay(NASDAQ:EBAY)were also produced in China, although they earn a higher perception due to one-day delivery shipping programs or higher prices.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2bea733440e86851af57559c6a5fd6bd\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"363\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Now, I view Wish as the digital dollar tree, where online shoppers discover items that they want, not need. In the process, customers have more patience for products and are willing to wait longer for them to arrive. Wish is working towards addressing both of these issues (quality and merchant diversification) as its platform is gaining popularity. Here, it has been investing in logistics to offer quicker delivery, demonstrated by a 275% YoY increase in logistics revenue. Since these revenues provide low margins, its overall gross margins have decreased in accordance. However, once it achieves economies of scale in the segment, margin growth should reverse and trail back towards 70%.</p>\n<p>It is also addressing the second issue by continuously growing its international merchant base. Here, U.S. merchants increased by over 400% YoY, and a similar trend is to be seen in other countries. Moreover, it is growing Wish Local, a service connecting local businesses to the platform, accounting for 7% of all Wish orders. In one week, AMC stock rallied 157% higher, dropped 33% and then rose again by 25%.</p>\n<p>It’s been quite the rollercoaster. And what has driven the #AMCArmy of retail investors to push the share price sky high has been the fact that the world’s largest movie theatre chain was brought to theedge of bankruptcyby the Covid-19 pandemic. That, and the stock has been one of the most heavily shorted on Wall Street this year.</p>\n<p>But AMC’s problems are not unique. And, like AMC and other movie theatre chains, Cineplex has had a tough go of it during the pandemic.</p>\n<p>CPXGFstock is now tradingat $13.48 a share, about half the $25.41 it was at in February 2020 before Covid-19 landed. The share price had been as low as $3.30 a share last October after the company reported its quarterly revenue plunged 95%.</p>\n<p>In addition to having its theatres shuttered for nearly a year and reopened with capacity limits, Cineplex has had to cope with a litany of other problems. First, Britain’s Cineworld Group backed out of adeal to acquire Cineplexfor $2.18 billion, a deal that would have made the merged companies the biggest operator of movie theaters in North America. Then, the company’s stock was removed fromCanada’s benchmark stock index, the<b>S&amp;P/TSX Composite Index</b>, and it was forced to sell its its head office in Toronto for $57 million CAD ($47 million) in order to raise cash to pay down debt.</p>\n<p>At last check, Cineplex was negotiating toreceive relief from its creditorsas it eagerly awaits the start of the summer movie season.</p>\n<p><b>Walt Disney (DIS)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/07f8afcac0c7c6dd3846e904c09efbf7\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>DIS stock has had a great run over the past year, propped up by the meteoric rise of the company’s Disney+ streaming service. The Walt Disney streaming service that is home to popular film and television franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel superheroes and Pixar animation grew to103.6 million subscriberswithin 18 months of launching and kept the Mouse House afloat during the pandemic while its theme parks and cruise lines were closed.</p>\n<p>However, the shine has come off DIS stock recently over concerns that growth in the company’s streaming service will now begin to slow.</p>\n<p>However, asa diversified company, Walt Disney should perform well as its theme parks around the world reopen this summer, its cruises set sail again, and it begins developing new content for the Disney+ platform. And, the company hopes to keep its growth in streaming robust by bundling Disney+ with other content offerings that include the sports-related ESPN Plus platform and movies and TV shows offered through Hulu, both of which Disney owns. However, this isn’t the first time that Lions Gate hasput out a ‘for sale’ sign. Netflix’s most recent earnings results did nothing to ease the fears of Wall Street. The Silicon Valley-based streaming giant reported on April 20 that it added 3.98 million subscribers in the first quarter, missing Wall Street’s estimate of 6.29 million subscribers and its own forecast of 6 million.</p>\n<p>The current quarter looks even worse with Netflix forecasting only a million new customers worldwide, less than a quarter of the 4.44 million forecast by analysts.</p>\n<p>To be fair, Netflix is largely a victim of its own success. After adding more than20 million new subscriberslast year (2020), growth was bound to level off at some point. Today, Netflix has nearly 208 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix’s subscriber growth has also been hurt by a lack of new content as TV and movie productions were halted during the pandemic.</p>\n<p>The company hopes to release a glut of new content later this year and is targeting Asia, where subscriptions grew 65% last year, for continued growth.</p>\n<p>NFLX stock has fallen 11.6% since its last quarterly results release and now trades at $485.81 a share.</p>\n<p><b>Cinemark Holdings (CNK)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9e9adffdcac440f98a123a3874db0146\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: LukeandKarla.Travel/Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>Another major U.S. movie theatre chain besides AMC is Plano, Texas-based Cinemark Holdings. Founded in 1961, Cinemark operates movie theatres under several brands, including Cinemark, Century Theatres and Tinseltown. The company is also global with operations as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil. At its current price of $23.21 a share,CNK stockis currently at about half the $40 a share it was trading at in the summer before the global pandemic.</p>\n<p>Cinemark Holdingsrevenue got hammeredover the past year as its theatres around the world were shut. Revenues for 2020 came in at $700 million, down 80% from $3.3 billion in 2019. Losses for last year came in at record $5.25 per share.</p>\n<p>Things are beginning to improve as Covid-19 vaccination rates accelerate and with aslate of blockbuster movieson deck for the coming summer months. However, currently the majority of Cinemark Holdings theatres are operating at 50% capacity as pandemic restrictions remain in place in most jurisdictions.</p>\n<p><b>IMAX (IMAX)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/32ee2bd29b44f561b3e38ce1867198f8\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: imageAllan / Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>Canadian theatre company IMAX Corporation, which makes giant movie screens and the films that are shown on them, is another company that will be glad to see both the pandemic and the AMC stock rally end.</p>\n<p>Investment bank<b>Goldman Sachs</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GS</u></b>) recentlydowngraded IMAX stockto “sell” from “neutral” and lowered its 12-month price target on the shares to $18.60, which would be a 16% drop from the current share price of $22.04.</p>\n<p>Goldman forecasts that the U.S. box office will only recover to about three-quarters of its pre-pandemic levels, noting that movie theater attendance had been in decline before the pandemic. The bank also warned that a glut of new theatrical releases will lead new movies to cannibalize each other this summer.</p>\n<p>Despite the negative sentiment, IMAX remains hopeful. Pre-sales of the IMAX version of the upcoming<i>Fast &amp; Furious</i>film (the ninth in that series) recentlyset a record in China, one of IMAX’s biggest markets globally.</p>\n<p><b>Marcus Corp. Its1,110 screensare primarily located in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company also owns 17 hotels and resorts in the Midwest, as well as California and Texas.</p>\n<p>The company’s first-quarter revenue came in at $50.8 million, 69% less than last year’s comparable revenue of $159.5 million.</p>\n<p>However, Marcus’ cash position remains strong, with the company reporting cash reserves of $213 million at the end ofthis year’ first quarter. Still, the pandemic has taken a toll on Marcus’ business and share price. MCS stock has traded as low as $6.84 and as high as $24.71 over the past year. In one week, AMC stock rallied 157% higher, dropped 33% and then rose again by 25%.\nIt’s been quite the rollercoaster. And what has driven the #AMCArmy of retail investors to push the share price sky high has been the fact that the world’s largest movie theatre chain was brought to theedge of bankruptcyby the Covid-19 pandemic. That, and the stock has been one of the most heavily shorted on Wall Street this year.\nBut AMC’s problems are not unique. And, like AMC and other movie theatre chains, Cineplex has had a tough go of it during the pandemic.\nCPXGFstock is now tradingat $13.48 a share, about half the $25.41 it was at in February 2020 before Covid-19 landed. The share price had been as low as $3.30 a share last October after the company reported its quarterly revenue plunged 95%.\nIn addition to having its theatres shuttered for nearly a year and reopened with capacity limits, Cineplex has had to cope with a litany of other problems. First, Britain’s Cineworld Group backed out of adeal to acquire Cineplexfor $2.18 billion, a deal that would have made the merged companies the biggest operator of movie theaters in North America. The Walt Disney streaming service that is home to popular film and television franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel superheroes and Pixar animation grew to103.6 million subscriberswithin 18 months of launching and kept the Mouse House afloat during the pandemic while its theme parks and cruise lines were closed.\nHowever, the shine has come off DIS stock recently over concerns that growth in the company’s streaming service will now begin to slow.\nHowever, asa diversified company, Walt Disney should perform well as its theme parks around the world reopen this summer, its cruises set sail again, and it begins developing new content for the Disney+ platform. And, the company hopes to keep its growth in streaming robust by bundling Disney+ with other content offerings that include the sports-related ESPN Plus platform and movies and TV shows offered through Hulu, both of which Disney owns.
