Consumers are more demanding about the entertainment choices they have these days, and the leading streaming services are fitting the bill. However, some platforms have killer advantages.
\n
Netflix(NASDAQ:NFLX),Roku(NASDAQ:ROKU),fuboTV(NYSE:FUBO), and Walt Disney(NYSE:DIS)have a leg up on the competition. Netflix was streaming -- disrupting its own physical distribution model -- long before the rest of the world caught up to the trend. Netflix is the undisputed leading premium streaming video service, hitting the midpoint of this year with 209.2 million paying accounts worldwide.
\n
One might argue that the killer advantage Netflix has is scale, but it's not as simple as the obvious benefit of reaching the largest audience in the market. Being the top dog means it can divide the cost of acquiring any new piece of content by the largest number of premium accounts. The cost per member of any new movie or series on its platform would be lower for Netflix than it would be for any of its smaller rivals.
\n
Netflix also has more than two decades of streaming history. Netflix knows exactly what its subscribers are watching, and just as importantly what they're not watching. Consumers are more demanding about the entertainment choices they have these days, and the leading streaming services are fitting the bill. However, some platforms have killer advantages.\nNetflix(NASDAQ:NFLX),Roku(NASDAQ:ROKU),fuboTV(NYSE:FUBO), and Walt Disney(NYSE:DIS)have a leg up on the competition. Let's see why they have invisible moats that are sometimes misunderstood by the market.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nNetflix\nLet's start with the obvious top dog in this niche. Netflix was streaming -- disrupting its own physical distribution model -- long before the rest of the world caught up to the trend. Netflix is the undisputed leading premium streaming video service, hitting the midpoint of this year with 209.2 million paying accounts worldwide.\nOne might argue that the killer advantage Netflix has is scale, but it's not as simple as the obvious benefit of reaching the largest audience in the market. Being the top dog means it can divide the cost of acquiring any new piece of content by the largest number of premium accounts. The cost per member of any new movie or series on its platform would be lower for Netflix than it would be for any of its smaller rivals.\nNetflix also has more than two decades of streaming history. Netflix knows exactly what its subscribers are watching, and just as importantly what they're not watching. It has its finger on the pulse of streaming entertainment in a way that is unmatched by anyone else. It's not a surprise that Netflix has now increased its monthly U.S. subscription rates five times in the past seven years and keeps growing.\nRoku\nAgnosticism is the killer advantage for Roku. Unlike other streaming operating systems and dongles put out by tech or media giants with their flagship premium offerings to promote, Roku has historically played nice with the gamut of streaming apps. The firm purportedly sold over $30 million worth of two types of tokens that the SEC deemed to be securities that should have been registered as such.\nThe SEC notes that Blockchain Credit Partners founders Gregory Keough and Derek Acree will have to pay fines of $125,000 while the company itself also agreed to pay $12.8 million in disgorgement. The settlement does not indicate an admition or denial the accusations.\nNew Game, Old Rules?\nSEC Enforcement Director Gurbir Grewal explained that \"full and honest disclosure remains the cornerstone of our securities laws — no matter what technologies are used to offer and sell those securities.\" This comment makes it very clear that slapping the DeFi label on a project and hoping to avoid regulation this way works no better than calling it a \"utility token\" prevented falling under the SEC's scrutiny during 2017's initial coin offering craze.\nThe SEC is trying to send the clear rule that the new kind of financial organizations that operate on blockchains have to still play by the old rules that govern traditional finance. At the same time, market onlookers are not sure if the regulator is actually right.\nIn a way, it is a tour de force where the regulator wins every time it has a way to take enforcement action, but these new organizations potentially have a very real way to make enforcement impossible — or at the very least impractical. The only protection against enforcement by the SEC and other regulators is decentralization and the only reason why the SEC was able to act in this case is that a centralized organization such as Blockchain Credit Partners exists.\nWhat's Next:If no company exists and all that there is to a DeFi protocol is a set of smart contracts deployed on a blockchain by a group of anonymous developers scattered around the world there is very little that the SEC can do short of attacking the blockchain itself. This is where the decentralization of the underlying blockchain comes into play: will the regulators for instance be able to force Ethereum's (CRYPTO: ETH) core development team to write an update stopping such a project?\nIf the regulators would actually be able to force the blockchain's developers to write such an update, would node operators and miners or stakers adopt this software or would they refuse to? Such situations will be the real test of the decentralization and reliability of any blockchain that many are waiting to happen. Regulators are seeing power slipping away between their fingers like sand, and they are going to try to grab it.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"COIN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":384,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891031679,"gmtCreate":1628305591091,"gmtModify":1633751784938,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please Like. However, the new bitcoin fund is limited to customers of JPMorgan Private Bank.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BTCmain":0.9,"MBTmain":0.9,"XBTmain":0.9,"JPM":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":375,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":807323527,"gmtCreate":1628001395169,"gmtModify":1633754483381,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like","listText":"Pls like","text":"Pls like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/807323527","repostId":"1102455284","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":805843214,"gmtCreate":1627871941938,"gmtModify":1633755735766,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like this. T-shirts range in price from $30 to $45. Hypland's Yasuke hoodie is going to set you back a beefy $82, or nearly half a year of a Netflix subscription.
\n
However, you may want to think twice before you dismiss the leading premium video service's chances here. There are some good reasons to bet on Netflix's latest move. Netflix is just getting started
\n
This is obviously just the opening act of Netflix.shop. You can get third-party -- admittedly unlicensed -- shirts for a lot less elsewhere. It will be harder to duplicate theYasukeandEdenaction figures that Netflix is promising will roll out later this month.
\n
Limited-edition apparel and decor inspired byLupin-- with the second season just dropping into your Netflix queue -- will hit the digital storefront this month. Last week's launch also teased upcoming exclusiveStranger ThingsandThe Witcherproduct lines. Reports also have Netflix working on aBridgertonclothing line alongside live events. And Fans ofLa Casa de Papel-- akaMoney Heist-- should be on the lookout for proprietary merch.
\n
Don't judge Netflix's new foray into the e-tail of physical merch based on what you see on today's landing page. The store will get bigger, and you'll get there once they roll around to paddling a new revenue stream based on one of your favorite shows.
\n
2. Never underestimate the Netflix audience
\n
It's not smart to bet against Netflix. It doesn't make a move unless it has thoroughly thought things through. How many times were we asking Netflix to rent video games by mail during its red envelope days? How many analysts have wondered about the money that Netflix could rake in it if sold ads on top of its streams in this era of rising connected-TV rates?
\n
Netflix is way smarter than me. It may also be smarter than you when it comes to how it runs its business. Bloomberg is reporting that Netflix is in the process of hiring heads of consumer products, podcasts, and video game businesses that don't currently exist. If they see the light of day -- as we're seeing with consumer product -- it's because the company knows what it's doing.
\n
Netflix had 207.6 million subscribersat the end of March, and we're talking about entire families here. The reach and breadth is larger than the account base. It's a captive audience spending hours a day getting lost in Netflix's growing digital catalog of content.
\n
Folks trust Netflix to get it right. They stick around, even if it means prices keep moving higher. Netflix has increased its monthly rates in the U.S.five times over the last seven years, and the sub count is always higher by the time the next hike rolls around.
\n
Netflix is a media stock. It's not a surprise that traditional media behemoths are generating significant sums of incremental revenue through vibrant consumer product sales. Why wouldn't Netflix -- a company that's been collecting gobs of data on your viewing habits for years -- be as good at nailing what you'll want to buy next as it is at knowing what you want to view next? We may never see a theme park, though I would be the first in line through the turnstiles of Netflixlandia to ride theOzarkroller coaster or experience theStranger Thingsdark ride. Selling unique merch to an engaged audience will be a lot easier, and unlike thatOzarkcoaster there are no height requirements or seat restraints to keep you from making the most of the consumer products ride.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Reasons Netflix Will Win Its Merchandising Gambit
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Reasons Netflix Will Win Its Merchandising Gambit\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-16 11:55 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
It's easy to be skeptical about last week's launch of Netflix's(NASDAQ:NFLX) online merch store. And Fans ofLa Casa de Papel-- akaMoney Heist-- should be on the lookout for proprietary merch.\nDon't judge Netflix's new foray into the e-tail of physical merch based on what you see on today's landing page. The store will get bigger, and you'll get there once they roll around to paddling a new revenue stream based on one of your favorite shows.\n2. Never underestimate the Netflix audience\nIt's not smart to bet against Netflix. It doesn't make a move unless it has thoroughly thought things through. How many times were we asking Netflix to rent video games by mail during its red envelope days? How many analysts have wondered about the money that Netflix could rake in it if sold ads on top of its streams in this era of rising connected-TV rates?\nNetflix is way smarter than me. It may also be smarter than you when it comes to how it runs its business. Bloomberg is reporting that Netflix is in the process of hiring heads of consumer products, podcasts, and video game businesses that don't currently exist. If they see the light of day -- as we're seeing with consumer product -- it's because the company knows what it's doing.\nNetflix had 207.6 million subscribersat the end of March, and we're talking about entire families here. The reach and breadth is larger than the account base. It's a captive audience spending hours a day getting lost in Netflix's growing digital catalog of content.\nFolks trust Netflix to get it right. They stick around, even if it means prices keep moving higher. Netflix has increased its monthly rates in the U.S.five times over the last seven years, and the sub count is always higher by the time the next hike rolls around.\nNetflix is a media stock. Selling unique merch to an engaged audience will be a lot easier, and unlike thatOzarkcoaster there are no height requirements or seat restraints to keep you from making the most of the consumer products ride.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NFLX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":894569708,"gmtCreate":1628840337204,"gmtModify":1631890158213,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like","listText":"Pls like","text":"Pls like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/894569708","repostId":"1101202302","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1302,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":175943402,"gmtCreate":1627004190006,"gmtModify":1633768876581,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like this. Computing Inc, a pure-play quantum software company, announcedits uplisting on the Nasdaq exchange last week.\nIn light of the development, Benzinga caught up with QCI CEO Robert Liscouski.\nAbout:The longer the code, the more difficult it is to process.\nThat’s according to Liscouski, who says traditional computing devices struggle with the complex calculations involved in finding an arrangement to an optimized outcome.\nWith quantum computing, data isrecorded and storedin different ways that enable faster and lower cost calculations.\nAbout Qatalyst:QCI, in a move to expand the use of quantum computing beyond cybersecurity, AI, engineering and manufacturing, brings businesses its flagship product Qatalyst.\nQatalyst is the first to drive computational results on any quantum or classical computer without complex programming or low-level coding, quantum experts or exorbitantly long and costly development cycles.\nSimply put, Qatalyst, which is available via the AWS cloud and Braket, allows businesses their first real opportunity to solve mission-critical problems with respect to supply chains, logistics, transportation and more.\nLiscouski On Innovation:Given a background in law enforcement, intelligence, and technology, Liscouski said he can see where advanced technologies can make a difference operationally.\n“I have an understanding of big data problems at the operational level,” he said in a discussion on filling a niche in the nascent quantum software space.\n“We started this company over three years ago with the concept of trying to develop software for quantum computing.”\nIn explaining QCI’s place in the market, Liscouski brings up the analogy of flip phones and smartphones.\nAfter smartphone hardware came along, a plethora of apps were developed, pushing the boundaries of what the hardware could do.\n“That’s the point where we’re at today,” he said. “We want to connect end-users with quantum computers to really stress them, to push the limits and boundaries of what they can do so ultimately they can be a useful technology.”\nWhy QCI Uplisted:To do so, QCI decided to list on the Nasdaq, thereby elevating its profile in the investment community.\n“After careful consideration, we chose the Nasdaq [as] they recognize the value of technology companies,” the CEO added.\nNow that the company is listed on a reputable, U.S.-based exchange, institutional investors will be more inclined to allocate sufficient capital to the nascent space, he said.\nOutlook:QCI is filling a gap, allowing businesses operational use of quantum computers.\nGoing forward, given a strong infrastructure and partnerships with organizations like Los Alamos National Laboratories, QCI will look to proof of concepts to show the efficacy and value of its approach.\n“We’re also focusing intently on a hybrid approach that a lot of the folks in the industry – Amazon included – are extremely focused on being able to leverage classical computing in the cloud with quantum computing in the cloud,” Liscouski said.\n“This is going to be a new frontier for technology and it doesn’t mean that it’s going to obliterate classical computing.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"QUBT":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":246,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162731543,"gmtCreate":1624075161882,"gmtModify":1634011018071,"author":{"id":"3582066628041538","authorId":"3582066628041538","name":"Swetash","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582066628041538","authorIdStr":"3582066628041538"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please
