No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.
\n
But the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.
\n
August actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.
\n
This July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.
\n
August’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”
\n
Not surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.
\n
Past isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.\nBut the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.\nAugust actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.\nThis July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.\nAugust’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”\nNot surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.\nPast isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. In the process, it provided a valuable lesson to all those who got in on the IPO: Buy low and sell high.\nThe company evidently fulfilled the latter imperative, selling its shares high, even though they were priced at the low end of the expected $38-$42 range. Their price sank 8.4% on their first day of trading, although they recouped a bit on Friday. By week’s end, buyers of Robinhood’s IPO who held were down 7.5%.\nAmong those who sold high were the company’s co-founders, CEO Vladimir Tenev and Chief Creative Officer Baiju Bhatt, who each offloaded 1.25 million shares in the IPO. Well, it shouldn’t come as a surprise since many countries around the world were sent into lockdown. At that point, most shopping activities were conducted online. So, even those who were skeptical of online shopping initially must have been exposed to e-commerce platforms. This is of course due to the advancement of technology as well. Some company’s platforms such as Pinterest Inc (NYSE: PINS) even have augmented reality features that would allow you to have a rough idea of what you’re getting.
\n
The shift to online shopping has resulted in many emerging e-commerce companies. For example, we have Jumia Technologies (NYSE: JMIA) that aims to be the top online marketplace in the whole of Africa. Perhaps, this should not be overlooked as e-commerce is still a growing sector in Africa. Moreover, JMIA stock has already soared by more than 400% just within the past year. Now, if you are optimistic about the future of e-commerce, here’s a list of fourtop e-commerce stocks to watchin thestock market today.
\n
Best E-Commerce Stocks To Watch
\n
\n
Etsy Inc(NASDAQ: ETSY)
\n
eBay Inc(NASDAQ: EBAY)
\n
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd(NYSE: BABA)
\n
Chewy Inc(NYSE: CHWY)
\n
\n
Etsy Inc
\n
Let us start the list with Etsy. The company operates a marketplace where people globally connect, both online and offline to sell and buy goods. It also offers a range of seller services and tools that help entrepreneurs manage their businesses. As of now, the company’s seller services include Direct Checkout, Promoted Listings, Shipping Labels, and Pattern by Etsy. ETSY stock has risen by over 80% over the past year.
\n

\n
On Monday, Etsy signed a definitive agreement to acquire Elo7, a privately held marketplace for unique, handmade items, ranked as a top 10 e-commerce site in Brazil. The Elo7 marketplace connects approximately 1.9 million active buyers with approximately 56,000 active sellers and currently has approximately 8 million items for sale. Hence, this deal would establish Etsy’s presence in Latin America, an underpenetrated e-commerce region.
\n
Etsy is not resting on its laurels. It also signed a definitive agreement to acquire Depop, a purpose-driven marketplace for unique fashion for $1.625 billion earlier in June. Depop is a community-powered marketplace to buy and sell unique fashion, with a mission to build the world’s most diverse and progressive home of fashion. It appears that 90% of Depop’s active users are under the age of 26. So, this could serve as a resale home for Gen Z consumers to the Etsy family. Given all these exciting developments, would you consider investing in ETSY stock?
\n
eBay Inc
\n
Next, we have one of the industry leaders of e-commerce, eBay. Essentially, the company operates marketplace platforms that connect buyers and sellers globally. This includes its online marketplace at ebay.com and the eBay suite of mobile apps. So, you could buy, sell, and pay for items through various online and offline channels. eBay stock has been one of the better-performing stocks within the e-commerce space this year. It has climbed by over 35% year-to-date.
\n

\n
Just last week, the company announced the completion of the transfer of its Classifieds business to Adevinta in exchange for $2.5 billion cash and a 44% equity stake in Adevinta. This combination will hopefully create a leading global online classifieds business. In the long run, both companies will be primed to benefit from its combined portfolio that may offer additional value for its customers and shareholders.
\n
eBay also had an impressive first quarter to start the year with the highest revenue growth since 2005. Its revenue was $3.0 billion, up 42% on an as-reported basis. There was also increased activity on its platform. Annual active buyers grew by 7%, now at a total of 187 million. Meanwhile, its annual active sellers grew by 8%, for a total of 20 million. We can see that the company is firing on all cylinders as we recover from the global pandemic. With that in mind, would you add EBAY stock to your watchlist?
\n
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd
\n
Coming up next, we have one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world, Alibaba. The company’s technology infrastructure and marketing reach help merchants and brands to leverage the power of technology to engage its users, and customers to operate. As of today, its three main sites, Taobao, Tmall, and Alibaba.com boast hundreds of millions of users and host millions of merchants and businesses.
\n

\n
Fundamentally, the company is as strong as ever. For its fourth-quarter fiscal 2021 earnings report, its revenue climbed to $28.6 billion, representing a 64% increase. Alibaba also reported 811 million annual active consumers in China which represents an 11% growth year-over-year. This is important because retaining and attracting active consumers would support the company’s business model.
\n
That said, it has not been a fantastic year for Alibaba this year. The company’s struggle this year was affected by the Chinese government. Alibaba was hit with a record fine of $2.75 billion earlier in April. However, the worst could be over for the company as the Chinese government is slowly shifting its focus to the company’s competitors. So, if you have missed the boat on BABA stock prior to this, could this be the classic buy-on-dip opportunity?
\n
Chewy Inc
\n
Last on this list, we have an e-commerce company that specializes in pet products, Chewy. In essence, it provides pet food and treats, pet supplies and pet medications, and other pet-health products, as well as pet services. Pet lovers out there could access all these products through its chewy.com retail website, and its mobile applications. The company stock may have been trading sideways since the start of the year. But, it has still climbed by over 70% over the past year.
\n

\n
In June, the company posted its first-quarter financial report that beat analysts’ expectations. Its net sales were $2.14 billion, growing 31.7% year-over-year. Meanwhile, its adjusted EBITDA came in at $77.4 million and its net income was $38.7 million. More importantly, Chewy added 600,000 active customers during the quarter which brings the number of active customers to 19.2 million. All in all, the company is growing in the right direction.
\n
Furthermore, Chewy also continues to innovate on their popular telehealth service, Connect with a Vet. May’s expansion includes the highly anticipated video consultation feature which allows pre-scheduling virtual vet consultation and extended hours of operation including weekends. With this, customers gain more accessibility to the company’s services and a better experience overall. With that in mind, would CHWY stock make your watchlist?
","source":"lsy1603171495471","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Best E-Commerce Stocks To Buy In July 2021? 4 Names In Focus
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBest E-Commerce Stocks To Buy In July 2021? 4 Names In Focus\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-05 10:35 GMT+8 Nasdaq\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Could These Be The Top E-Commerce Stocks To Watch Right Now?\nE-commerce stocks had a historic year in thestock marketlast year. More importantly, their futures look bright.","content":"
Key Points
\n
\n
Growth stocks may be riskier than stable and established companies, but carefully selected ones may be worth it.
\n
Stay-at-home trends have helped these companies, but their growth rates were high before the pandemic, too.
\n
Both of these fast-growing tech businesses are already profitable.
\n
\n
There's an interesting dilemma when it comes to picking stocks investors can likely hold for years or even decades. On the one hand, investors looking to hold shares for the long haul can stick with stable and established companies that have been around for decades and will likely continue succeeding for the foreseeable future -- companies like Waste Management and Berkshire Hathaway. The downside to this approach, however, is that investors may miss out on the potential outperformance that could come from fast-growing companies over the long haul.
\n
The issue with buying growth stocks, however, is that it's extremely difficult to gauge how long their rapid top-line growth rates can persist. Further, these companies' stock prices could perform very poorly if the growth prospects already baked into the stock price don't pan out. In other words, there's arguably more risk when it comes to betting on growth stocks for the next decade than there is for stable and established companies with decades of success behind them.
\n
So if an investor wants to buy growth stocks with a high chance of exceeding expectations over the next 10 years, they better have some pretty good reasons to believe these companies can do exactly that.
\n
\n
Here are two growth stocks that have a shot at not only living up to high expectations over the next 10 years but possibly even exceeding them:Zoom Video Communications(NASDAQ:ZM) and Peloton Interactive(NASDAQ:PTON).
\n
Zoom and Peloton were already thriving before the pandemic
\n
At first glance, investors may conclude that Zoom is nothing more than a pandemic stock. They may argue that the company's success was predicated almost entirely on the fact that much of the world was in lockdown in 2020 and going into 2021.
\n
It's true that Zoom benefited significantly from the rise of virtual work in 2020. After all, revenue for the company's fiscal 2021 (a fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2021) skyrocketed 326% year over year. But investors should note that the trend of using video to collaborate virtually was already extremely strong before the pandemic; fiscal 2020 revenue rose 88% year over year. Growth at the time was particularly strong from large customers. Zoom's customers contributing more than $100,000 of trailing-12-month revenue increased 86% year over year in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020.
\n
The same goes for Peloton. On the one hand, investors looking to hold shares for the long haul can stick with stable and established companies that have been around for decades and will likely continue succeeding for the foreseeable future -- companies like Waste Management and Berkshire Hathaway. The downside to this approach, however, is that investors may miss out on the potential outperformance that could come from fast-growing companies over the long haul.\nThe issue with buying growth stocks, however, is that it's extremely difficult to gauge how long their rapid top-line growth rates can persist. Further, these companies' stock prices could perform very poorly if the growth prospects already baked into the stock price don't pan out. In other words, there's arguably more risk when it comes to betting on growth stocks for the next decade than there is for stable and established companies with decades of success behind them.\nSo if an investor wants to buy growth stocks with a high chance of exceeding expectations over the next 10 years, they better have some pretty good reasons to believe these companies can do exactly that.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nHere are two growth stocks that have a shot at not only living up to high expectations over the next 10 years but possibly even exceeding them:Zoom Video Communications(NASDAQ:ZM) and Peloton Interactive(NASDAQ:PTON).\nZoom and Peloton were already thriving before the pandemic\nAt first glance, investors may conclude that Zoom is nothing more than a pandemic stock. They may argue that the company's success was predicated almost entirely on the fact that much of the world was in lockdown in 2020 and going into 2021.\nIt's true that Zoom benefited significantly from the rise of virtual work in 2020. Zoom's customers contributing more than $100,000 of trailing-12-month revenue increased 86% year over year in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020.\nThe same goes for Peloton. The company certainly benefited from the pandemic, but revenue during the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2019 was growing at a year-over-year rate of 77%, with connected fitness subscribers increasing 96% year over year.\nContinued momentum\nThe underlying catalysts driving Zoom and Peloton are both still alive and well. Strong growth persists at both companies.\nDespite facing extremely tough comparisons in the year-ago quarter, from when both companies were benefiting from soaring demand amid lockdowns, Zoom's and Peloton's revenue in their most recently reported quarters grew 191% and 141% year over year, respectively.\nLooking ahead, Zoom notably guided for fiscal 2022 revenue of nearly $4 billion, up from fiscal 2021 revenue of about $2.7 billion.\nBoding well for Peloton's continued momentum, management said in its most recent quarterly update that its monthly average workouts per connected fitness subscription rose to an all-time high, showing how the company's products are still yielding high engagement even as the economy reopens.\nHealthy profits\nFinally, another factor that makes these companies unique from many other growth stocks is that they are already very profitable. Zoom generated $873 million of net income on $3.3 billion of trailing-12-month sales, and Peloton served up $213 million of net income from $3.7 billion in revenue.\nSubstantial profits give these companies an edge when it comes to reinvesting in growth opportunities ahead of them and spending on efforts to enhance their competitive positioning and first-mover advantages in their respective industries.\nWhile there's no guarantee these two stocks will beat the market over the next 10 years, their recent momentum -- before, during, and after the worst part of the pandemic -- suggests they likely have a promising future.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":205,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":140967589,"gmtCreate":1625624400041,"gmtModify":1633938947255,"author":{"id":"3582431952447941","authorId":"3582431952447941","name":"takeshi21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3b01d3b3d8f783b23970f9ae87894dc1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582431952447941","authorIdStr":"3582431952447941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Next","listText":"Next","text":"Next","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/140967589","repostId":"1189741956","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":332,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":140964595,"gmtCreate":1625624357817,"gmtModify":1633938948166,"author":{"id":"3582431952447941","authorId":"3582431952447941","name":"takeshi21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3b01d3b3d8f783b23970f9ae87894dc1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582431952447941","authorIdStr":"3582431952447941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Mostly tech","listText":"Mostly tech","text":"Mostly tech","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/140964595","repostId":"2149507863","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2149507863","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625575839,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2149507863?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-06 20:50","market":"us","language":"en","title":"40 of the hottest stocks in the market so far in 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2149507863","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"It has been a great year for the stock prices of some very well-known companies, and in a few cases ","content":"
It has been a great year for the stock prices of some very well-known companies, and in a few cases surprisingly so.
\n
The broader market's performance hasn't been too shabby, either. We are sitting here today literally in the middle of the year and that is likely to be the dominant topic policy-wise in the next several months in Congress as they negotiate both the potential for higher corporate tax rates and the potential for higher capital gains rates,\" Kostin added.\nKostin's 2021 price target for the S&P 500 is 4,300, a shade below its current level of 4,352.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":100,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":154957512,"gmtCreate":1625472595336,"gmtModify":1633940368484,"author":{"id":"3582431952447941","authorId":"3582431952447941","name":"takeshi21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3b01d3b3d8f783b23970f9ae87894dc1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582431952447941","authorIdStr":"3582431952447941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"copper pls rise faster","listText":"copper pls rise faster","text":"copper pls rise faster","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/154957512","repostId":"1193340451","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193340451","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625456464,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1193340451?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-05 11:41","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Bank of America: Billions are about to pour into EV infrastructure — and these stocks will benefit","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193340451","media":"CNBC","summary":"Electric vehicle adoption is at an inflection point, according toBank of Americaanalysts who identified a new way to play the trend. An increasing need for EVcharging technologyis set to benefit a raft of global stocks, according to the bank, including semiconductor and Big Oil companies, as well as auto suppliers.\nBank of America analysts led by Harry Wyburd flagged a rapid rise in ownership of electric vehicles, with EVs on Europe’s roads up 100% since pre-Covid.\nIn a research note published last week, they wrote: “Our updated charger forecasts see c. [circa] $80bn of potential charging infrastructure investment by 2040E [estimate].”\nThe bank estimates there are currently around nine public charging points per 100 electric vehicles in Europe and expects the number to rise as more of the cars hit the road. BofA also expects “significant” growth in home charging points, with around 60 million electric connectors by 2030.\nBofA’s stock picks include:\nSemiconductors\n“We estimate that power semiconductor demand related to charger deployments in Europe can increase from low tens of millions of US dollars per annum to c$50m per annum by 2025 and c$100m per annum by 2030,” the analysts stated, pickingInfineonandSTMicroas beneficiaries of this.\nOil majors\nBig Oil can create “significant value” from “shifting their equity story to Big Energy,” with more of a focus on decarbonization, according to BofA. Its analysts noted the shift was becoming more urgent for these companies, given shareholder pressure and the Hague District Court’sdemands for Shellto meet climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement.\nThe analysts pickedBP,ShellandTotaland said: “We believe EV charging will grow in importance in linking Big Oil’s existing Marketing footprints (including global brand recognition and backing from their commodity trading desks) with Big Oils’ expansion into electricity supply.”\nAuto suppliers\nValeomakes parts for EVs of all sizes as well as a range of charging components for the likes ofVWand Mercedes. It is buy-rated by BofA, which noted that its joint venture withSiemensnow has around a 40% market share of the high voltage charging sector.\nMetals and mining\nCopper producerAntofagastaand minerBolidenare buy-rated picks for BofA, with copper likely to be a key part of EV chargers as well as inside the vehicle. “New technologies such as renewables, energy storage and electric vehicles that are gaining traction have one thing in common: they require a set of commodities we define as MIFTs, or metals important for future technologies,” BofA’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":250,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
