As of Jan. 28, GME stock is at $94.65 per share, down from $148.39 at the year-end and also from a recent peak of $247.55 on Nov. 22.This means GME stock is now down 62% from the recent peak just 2 months ago, and also down 37% year-to-date. In other words, the stock is now in full deflation mode. Can it go lower? In my last article on GME stock on Dec. 9, I wrote that it could still fall 10% to 20%. At the time, it was at $155.76 on Dec. 9. This means it has now fallen 40% since then, well more than I predicted. But, unfortunately, I still think that it could fall further still. I will describe the reasons why in the rest of this article.Where Things Stand at GameStopLast quarter GameStop had very poor operating margins. They fell to negative 7.9% from negative 6.3% a year ago. Moreover, the margins were negative at -4.9% in Q2.Moreover, its gross margin percentage of sales fell to 24.6% from 27.5% a year ago. In fact, last quarter ending July 31, its gross margin was higher at 27.1%. But pricing pressure and most likely higher shipping costs cut its margin from the high 20% to below 25%. That does not help its ongoing profitability. In fact, at some point, GameStop has to get profitable. It may take this to happen before GME stock makes a major turnaround.Where Analysts StandIt’s not like Wall Street is really standing behind the company as well. In fact, Barron’s magazine wrote after their recent earnings release that several analysts were skeptical. For example, one of those is Wedbush’s Michael Pachter. He has an ‘Underperform’ rating on the stock. Moreover, he cut his price target to $45 from $50. But this is still substantially lower than today’s price of $94.65 as of Jan. 28.His argument can be seen in the title of his report, “Another Quarter, No Turnaround In Sight.” He argues that there is no “clarity” on the management’s digital transformation plans. He said their idea to potentially explore blockchain technology does not add up to a turnaround.I also pointed out in my previous article that the company’s huge buildup in inventory this past quarter may not work out well. This could happen if demand over the next two quarters does not come in as expected, especially over the Christmas period. It was also very hard on the company’s cash and cash flow burn. Moreover, analysts are all uniformly still negative on the price prospects for GME stock. For example, the average price target from 4 analysts surveyed by TipRanks.com is $34.00. That represents a 63% downturn in the stock from here. The same thing is evident at both Seeking Alpha and Yahoo! Finance (which uses the Refinitive analyst survey data). For example, Seeking Alpha has a survey of 3 analysts with a price target of $34.00, implying a 63.6% downturn. Yahoo! Finance reports that 3 analysts have a $56.00 average price, or just 40% below today’s price.Any way that you slice it, analysts are not impressed with GME stock. What To DoWhenever analysts are so one-sidedly negative on a stock, and I am not, I take the average or a probability-weighted average price target. But in this case, I see no reason to be as positive on GME stock anymore. I am not impressed with their earnings, and like the Wedbush analyst, I don’t see a turnaround plan yet. Therefore, investors might do well to just wait for the stock price to continue to adjust downward. I am not recommending shorting the stock, but I can see how buying puts or shorting calls might make some sense here.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GME":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1651,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633008589,"gmtCreate":1643517234419,"gmtModify":1643517234686,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633008589","repostId":"1191140677","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1191140677","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1643509277,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1191140677?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-30 10:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Dirt-Cheap Value Stocks to Buy Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191140677","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Growth stocks, on balance, have dramatically outperformed value stocks since the last major financia","content":"

Growth stocks, on balance, have dramatically outperformed value stocks since the last major financial crisis. market.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TAK":0.9,"VTRS":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2191,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633008219,"gmtCreate":1643517182461,"gmtModify":1643517182687,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633008219","repostId":"2207809007","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2744,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":639738535,"gmtCreate":1643435571051,"gmtModify":1643435571338,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/639738535","repostId":"1126756363","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1993,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":639249766,"gmtCreate":1643330878505,"gmtModify":1643330878774,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/639249766","repostId":"2206412188","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2426,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":639399941,"gmtCreate":1643158449889,"gmtModify":1643158450194,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/639399941","repostId":"2206103855","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2381,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630770194,"gmtCreate":1643068884617,"gmtModify":1643068884854,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/630770194","repostId":"2206888965","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":740,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630557123,"gmtCreate":1642998026595,"gmtModify":1642998026867,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/630557123","repostId":"1106250133","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1106250133","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1642977542,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1106250133?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-24 All of these declines are based on data fromS&P Global Market Intelligence.

There are multiple factors behind the sharp sell-off of these vaccine stocks. Perhaps most importantly, investors appear to be looking beyond the current surge in COVID-19 cases to a future where the demand for vaccines could be lower. The World Health Organization's (WHO) chief scientist also stated publicly on Tuesday that there's no evidence that booster doses are needed for healthy children and adolescents.

BioNTech's shares are down the most because of new results announced this week from a clinical study conducted in Israel. This study found that a fourth booster dose of Comirnaty, the COVID-19 vaccine developed by BioNTech and its partner,Pfizer(NYSE:PFE), isn't effective at preventing infections by the coronavirus omicron variant.

This news also appeared to negatively affect Moderna. Like the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine Spikevax uses messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. Investors seem to be concerned that a fourth booster dose of Spikevax won't be effective at preventing infection by omicron either.

So what

The prospects of reduced demand for COVID-19 vaccines is something that should be concerning to investors. This scenario would mean lower revenue for BioNTech and Moderna, which already have COVID-19 vaccines on the market in the U.S. and across the world.

It could also translate to a tough climb ahead for Novavax and Ocugen. Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine has recently won authorizations or approvals in several countries, although not in the U.S. yet. Ocugen owns the rights to market Covaxin in the U.S. and Canada but hasn't secured authorizations in either country.

However, it's too early to know if vaccine demand will actually decline significantly. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned this week that new coronavirus variants are likely to emerge after the current omicron wave wanes. The organization's COVID-19 technical lead, Maria Van Kerkhove, stated, "We're hearing a lot of people suggest that omicron is the last variant, that it's over after this. And that is not the case because this virus is circulating at a very intense level around the world."

As for the WHO's take that boosters for healthy children and adolescents aren't necessary, it remains to be seen if countries will go along. The U.S. government continues to encourage adolescents ages 12 and up to receive a third booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

But what about the new data from Israel about a fourth dose of Comirnaty? This probably isn't as worrisome as it might seem at first glance. Pfizer and BioNTech expect to have their omicron-specific vaccine ready by March. Moderna is developing a version of its vaccine that targets the omicron variant as well.

Now what

The most important thing, by far, for investors to watch now is what happens next with the COVID-19 pandemic. The spread of new coronavirus variants could completely change the market dynamics for these companies.

Despite its dismal stock performance, Novavax has actually enjoyed some good news recently. All of these declines are based on data fromS&P Global Market Intelligence. There are multiple factors behind the sharp sell-off of these vaccine stocks. Perhaps most importantly, investors appear to be looking beyond the current surge in COVID-19 cases to a future where the demand for vaccines could be lower. The World Health Organization's (WHO) chief scientist also stated publicly on Tuesday that there's no evidence that booster doses are needed for healthy children and adolescents.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.BioNTech's shares are down the most because of new results announced this week from a clinical study conducted in Israel. So whatThe prospects of reduced demand for COVID-19 vaccines is something that should be concerning to investors. The organization's COVID-19 technical lead, Maria Van Kerkhove, stated, \"We're hearing a lot of people suggest that omicron is the last variant, that it's over after this. And that is not the case because this virus is circulating at a very intense level around the world.\"As for the WHO's take that boosters for healthy children and adolescents aren't necessary, it remains to be seen if countries will go along. The U.S. government continues to encourage adolescents ages 12 and up to receive a third booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Now whatThe most important thing, by far, for investors to watch now is what happens next with the COVID-19 pandemic. The spread of new coronavirus variants could completely change the market dynamics for these companies.Despite its dismal stock performance, Novavax has actually enjoyed some good news recently. The company won approvals for its COVID-19 vaccine in France and in Australia over the last several days. Novavax expects to soon complete its filing for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the U.S.Ocugen has already submitted for U.S. EUA of Covaxin in children. However, the company still awaits the lifting of a clinical hold placed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on a planned late-stage clinical study of the vaccine.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BNTX":0.9,"MRNA":0.9,"NVAX":0.9,"OCGN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":670,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630044605,"gmtCreate":1642647535795,"gmtModify":1642647536074,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/630044605","repostId":"2204320050","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":734,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":697730813,"gmtCreate":1642585749801,"gmtModify":1642585750037,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/697730813","repostId":"1175326333","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1175326333","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1642580326,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1175326333?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-19 16:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Will the Microsoft-Activision Deal Get Done? I suspect that it may be at a point where investors can begin accumulating it. One reason is that I foresee that AMZN stock will stage a rebound sometime this quarter or in the spring. After peaking at $3,696.06 on Nov. 18, the stock has taken a tumble. At the end of December, AMZN stock closed at $3,334.34. But as of Jan. 13, it was lower at $3,224.28. That represents a drop of about 10% from its peak and a decline of 3.3% since the beginning of 2022.However, once the company issues its upcoming earnings, I suspect that AMZN stock could make a rebound. Let’s look at this further.Where Things Stand at Amazon.comAmazon is likely to release its fourth-quarter (Q4) earnings report sometime before the end of this month. This is because it usually releases its quarterly earnings at the end of the month following the quarter-end.More importantly, the release is likely to show a much higher free cash flow (FCF) figure than it did last quarter. In Q3, Amazon reported that its last 12 months (LTM) FCF fell to just$2.6 billion. This was substantially lower than its year-earlier Q3 LTM figure of $29.5 billion.By the way, Amazon is one of the only large companies that reports its earnings this way. It likes to use a quarterly comparison of full-year FCF on a look-back basis over the prior 12 months. This is most likely because the Christmas quarter (Q4) is such a large portion of its overall free cash flow. In other words, the quarterly changes are irrelevant, unless seen on an LTM basis, because the Christmas quarter is such an important factor. One Time Costs and FCFAs I wrote last month, Amazon experienced a good deal of difficulty in operating costs. This is likely from the travails from Covid-19 and its effect on Amazon’s business. For example, its freight and shipping costs increased 20% on a year-over-year (YOY) basis in Q3.Moreover, shipping costs were up 30% in Q2 and 57% in Q1. This goes a long way in explaining why the Q3 trailing-12-month (TTM) free cash flow figures were significantly lower. However, you can see that the YOY cost increases have been declining. This could mean that Amazon is adapting to these changes. Therefore, I suspect that the Q4 might not show as great an increase in these costs. As a result, FCF margins might be better than expected, given the poor results in Q3.Free Cash Flow Estimates for AMZN StockHistorically, Amazon has made TTM FCF margins of 8.5% or higher. Last year, Amazon made $29.5 billion in TTM FCF on sales of $348 billion. That is an LTM FCF margin of 8.5%.So, Amazon could be at a low here in terms of its poor LTM FCF margins. Going forward, FCF margins might be at least 4.25%, half of the historical quarterly averages. Therefore, assuming sales hit $553 billion in 2022, using Seeking Alpha’s analyst estimates, the FCF forecast for 2022 will be $23.5 billion. This is the result of multiplying 4.25% by $553 billion. This is almost 10 times the $2.5 billion that Amazon made in LTM FCF during Q3. So, it represents a huge turnaround in the FCF. And remember, we are only using half of the normal 8.5% FCF margin for Amazon.Where This Leaves AMZN StockUsing a 1% FCF yield metric, we can forecast that Amazon’s market value will reach $2.35 trillion. This is the result of dividing $23.5 billion by 0.01 (i.e., $23.5b / 1.0% = $2.35 trillion). This $2.35 trillion target market value is 43.73% higher than Amazon’s existing market value of $1.635 trillion. That implies that AMZN stock is worth 43.73% more than its price today of $3,224.28. That puts its target value at $4,634.26 per share. Here is the good thing about this. Even if it takes 2 years for the stock to rise 43.73% to this price, the average annual return will be about 20% annually (19.9%).So, investing in AMZN stock should provide at least a 20% average return over the next 2 years, and possibly much more. That is a very good return on investment for most investors, especially over the long-term.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":568,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":697926485,"gmtCreate":1642225192226,"gmtModify":1642225192467,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Both","listText":"Both","text":"Both","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/697926485","repostId":"2203712801","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":520,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":697082074,"gmtCreate":1642162382520,"gmtModify":1642162383337,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Try","listText":"Try","text":"Try","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/697082074","repostId":"1144666508","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1144666508","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1642160056,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1144666508?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-14 19:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Meme Stocks That Are Actually Solid Long-Term Picks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1144666508","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The meme stock craze of 2021 was certainly a historically unique market environment. Before you add any of these to your portfolio, it's important to be prepared for that possibility.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":0.9,"LMND":0.9,"OPAD":0.9,"SOFI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":839,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":694487572,"gmtCreate":1642079786137,"gmtModify":1642080099604,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh","listText":"Oh","text":"Oh","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/694487572","repostId":"1166278701","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1166278701","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1642077973,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1166278701?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-13 20:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Virgin Galactic shares fell more than 9% in premarket trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1166278701","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Virgin Galactic shares fell more than 9% in premarket trading.Virgin Galactic Holdings, Inc. today a","content":"

Virgin Galactic shares fell more than 9% in premarket trading.Virgin Galactic Holdings, Inc. today announced its intention to offer, subject to market and other conditions, $425 million aggregate principal amount of convertible senior notes due 2027 (the “notes”) in a private offering to persons reasonably believed to be qualified institutional buyers pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the “Securities Act”). And gains from some","content":"
There's been a lot of investor excitement about electric vehicle (EV) companies. And gains from some stocks have been exceptional over the last two years. Now, the landscape for the sector seems to be clearing so investors can get a better idea of who the players are, and over what time frame EV makers will be bringing out new offerings.
\n
Beyond just looking at the exciting new products and potentially huge market, investors should research details that will help compare and contrast the EV makers. If you're interested in diving in now, the three charts below will provide a look at some data worth considering before you make an investment.
\n
Returns have been unpredictable
\n
Many have bought into the EV sector looking for large, market-beating returns. While shares of EV leaderTesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)skyrocketed last year, as the field of publicly traded names has grown, returns have been inconsistent. And investors need to be prepared for plenty of volatility along the way. The chart below shows the most recent six-month returns from a mix of U.S.- and China-based EV makers:
\n
DATA BYYCHARTS.
\n
Even the strong returns from Tesla and Lucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID)stocks have included big swings in just the past two months. And though Chinese EV makers Nio(NYSE:NIO) and XPeng(NYSE:XPEV)have been growing sales quickly, their stocks have backtracked since June 2021.Lordstown Motors(NASDAQ:RIDE), maker of the Endurance all-electric work truck, has struggled, and shareholders have paid the price this year. The lesson is that there will be winners and losers, and EV stock moves can be quick and extreme.
\n
There's plenty of demand
\n
Just looking at share-price movement doesn't tell the full story, of course. While Nio and XPeng shares haven't moved higher in the last half-year, both company's sales skyrocketed over the first nine months of 2021, as shown below:
\n
DATA SOURCE: COMPANY FINANCIAL FILINGS. CHART BY AUTHOR.*XPENG 2021 COMPARISON WITH FINAL THREE QUARTERS OF 2020.
\n
Tesla has almost doubled its deliveries over the first nine months of 2021 compared to the year-ago period. But XPeng andNio deliveries are growing much faster, though the two Chinese companies are growing off of a much smaller base. And as both are already richly valued, with recent market capitalizations of around $36 billion and $48 billion, respectively, investors have sold off shares in recent months. Global demand is strong and growing, but that won't automatically result in growing share prices.
\n
Profitability will take time
\n
Investors in any business need to focus on the bottom line. Early stage growth companies aren't necessarily expected to become profitable quickly, however. Especially with a high-fixed-cost business like automotive manufacturing, profits will only come with scale. As the chart below shows, few EV makers are bringing in profits yet:
\n
DATA SOURCE: COMPANY FINANCIAL FILINGS. CHART BY AUTHOR.
\n
Tesla led the industry with a reported profit of more than $1.6 billion in the third quarter of 2021 .
\n
BYD is perhaps a less well-known Chinese EV company, and it sells more than just electric cars; it also makes batteries, electric buses, and traditional internal combustion vehicles. And gains from some stocks have been exceptional over the last two years. Now, the landscape for the sector seems to be clearing so investors can get a better idea of who the players are, and over what time frame EV makers will be bringing out new offerings.\nBeyond just looking at the exciting new products and potentially huge market, investors should research details that will help compare and contrast the EV makers. If you're interested in diving in now, the three charts below will provide a look at some data worth considering before you make an investment.\nReturns have been unpredictable\nMany have bought into the EV sector looking for large, market-beating returns. While shares of EV leaderTesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)skyrocketed last year, as the field of publicly traded names has grown, returns have been inconsistent. And investors need to be prepared for plenty of volatility along the way. The chart below shows the most recent six-month returns from a mix of U.S.- and China-based EV makers:\nDATA BYYCHARTS.\nEven the strong returns from Tesla and Lucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID)stocks have included big swings in just the past two months. The lesson is that there will be winners and losers, and EV stock moves can be quick and extreme.\nThere's plenty of demand\nJust looking at share-price movement doesn't tell the full story, of course. While Nio and XPeng shares haven't moved higher in the last half-year, both company's sales skyrocketed over the first nine months of 2021, as shown below:\nDATA SOURCE: COMPANY FINANCIAL FILINGS. CHART BY AUTHOR.*XPENG 2021 COMPARISON WITH FINAL THREE QUARTERS OF 2020.\nTesla has almost doubled its deliveries over the first nine months of 2021 compared to the year-ago period. But XPeng andNio deliveries are growing much faster, though the two Chinese companies are growing off of a much smaller base. And as both are already richly valued, with recent market capitalizations of around $36 billion and $48 billion, respectively, investors have sold off shares in recent months. Global demand is strong and growing, but that won't automatically result in growing share prices.\nProfitability will take time\nInvestors in any business need to focus on the bottom line. Early stage growth companies aren't necessarily expected to become profitable quickly, however. Especially with a high-fixed-cost business like automotive manufacturing, profits will only come with scale. As the chart below shows, few EV makers are bringing in profits yet:\nDATA SOURCE: COMPANY FINANCIAL FILINGS. CHART BY AUTHOR.\nTesla led the industry with a reported profit of more than $1.6 billion in the third quarter of 2021 .\nBYD is perhaps a less well-known Chinese EV company, and it sells more than just electric cars; it also makes batteries, electric buses, and traditional internal combustion vehicles. But its \"new energy vehicles\" -- which include plug-in hybrid electrics -- made up more than 90% of the nearly 100,000 new energy passenger vehicles it delivered in November.\nLucid and Rivian Automotive(NASDAQ:RIVN)are getting a lot of attention recently, but they've barely started shipping product; the losses there will continue for some time until those companies reach scale. Investors hope that Nio and XPeng reach profitability soon, as both are growing sales and expanding product offerings. But investors interested in the sector need to be prepared for a long road before profitability can be expected.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"LCID":0.9,"NIO":0.9,"RIVN":0.9,"TSLA":0.9,"XPEV":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":144,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":690126480,"gmtCreate":1639648325506,"gmtModify":1639648325718,"author":{"id":"3582712430239719","authorId":"3582712430239719","name":"S071","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1f21cc4747e7e36aaf24e423fd9d808b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582712430239719","authorIdStr":"3582712430239719"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments","listText":"Comments","text":"Comments","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/690126480","repostId":"1172103402","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1172103402","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1639647036,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1172103402?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-16 17:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Earnings Scheduled For December 16, 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1172103402","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Companies Reporting Before The Bell\n• Tsakos Energy Navigation (NYSE:TNP) is projected to report qua","content":"
\n
Companies Reporting Before The Bell\n• Tsakos Energy Navigation (NYSE:TNP) is projected to report quarterly loss at $1.12 per share on revenue of $84.34 million.\n• Accenture (NYSE:ACN) is expected to ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1606299360108","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
