Despite coming up with a blockbuster vaccine for the novel coronavirus, PFE stock did basically nothing for an extended period.</p>\n<p>That finally changed this summer, when Pfizer belatedly rallied to new all-time highs. Now though, the gains are fading almost as quickly as they happened. In its <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/QTWO\">Q2</a> earnings release, Pfizer reported 93% year-over-year revenue growth. Yet shares are up less than 20% over the past 12 months. Why have investors not given Pfizer credit for its performance, and will that change in the future?</p>\n<p><b>Vaccine Hits A Setback</b></p>\n<p>Pfizer has enjoyed incredible revenue growth over the past year due to its Covid-19 vaccine. The majority of vaccinated <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AFG\">American</a> adults have taken the Pfizer vaccine, and it’s had strong sales overseas as well.</p>\n<p>Despite that, however, PFE stock didn’t move too much. At least, not until July of this year. At that time, PFE stock finally took off. The reason why is that investors started to price in the expectation that people would need to take vaccine booster shots to maintain efficacy.</p>\n<p>The idea of a third, and potentially even fourth or more dose of vaccines would have created a far more enduring revenue boost for Pfizer. Up until recently, investors had shied away from Pfizer despite its massive top-line growth because they anticipated that the Covid business would quickly recede. With booster shots, however, the vaccine would have taken on another level of importance to the company.</p>\n<p>This scenario is now under increasing doubt, however. A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel recentlyrecommended againstadvising booster shots of the Pfizer vaccine. A large majority of the panelists voted that the data on hand was insufficient to warrant booster shots. That comes amid reports that&nbsp;<b>Moderna’s</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>MRNA</u></b>) vaccine remains effective in a higher percentage of people than Pfizer’s after 120 days.</p>\n<p>This is hardly the final word on booster shots or the efficacy of Moderna versus Pfizer. Pfizer’s investors shouldn’t discount the possibility that the FDA later comes around on additional rounds of the vaccine. For now, however, the prospects are looking more uncertain.</p>\n<p><b>Baseline Valuation Is Not That Demanding</b></p>\n<p>Let’s go back in time to 2019 and pretend that we’ve never heard of the pandemic. What does an investment in Pfizer look like in this hypothetical scenario? For full-year 2018, Pfizer generated $1.87 of EPS. In 2019, this leapt to $2.87.</p>\n<p>Based on today’s stock price just below $44, PFE stock is selling at 23x 2018 earnings or 15x 2019 earnings. With no benefit from the current Covid-19 vaccine whatsoever, Pfizer stock would still be going for a reasonable multiple.</p>\n<p>Yes, you can argue that pharmaceutical companies should trade for lower P/E multiples than many other industries given the high cost of drug development and quick patent expiries. Still, with earnings as strong as they were in 2018-19, it’s not hard to get behind the stock at $44 even if you give the company zero credit for the Covid-19 vaccine. Forget about booster shots for a minute, traders are pricing Pfizer like there will be little more revenue from the vaccine whatsoever.</p>\n<p><b>PFE Stock Verdict</b></p>\n<p>Right now, Pfizer stock is inextricably linked to its vaccine’s outlook. When there is positive news on that front, PFE stock surges. When there is a setback, PFE stock sells off hard. That’s a totally understandable market reaction. Many traders are trained to react quickly to the latest headline.</p>\n<p>For longer-term investors, however, Pfizer is an opportunity regardless of the trajectory of the vaccine. Even if boosters ultimately aren’t a big thing, Pfizer can still make investors money from this entry point.</p>\n<p>The company is a tremendous diversified pharmaceutical giant. It was in good shape long before the pandemic, and it has dozens of promising drugs in its pipeline to power it for the next decade and beyond. The company is reaping a windfall right now, but it’s not like that’s its only iron in the fire.</p>\n<p>If the Covid-19 business continues longer than forecast, that’s all upside to the stock price. Learning the bull and bear arguments is enough for now. Figuring out who is leading and what it means for the stocks of the car makers can come later.</p>\n<p>The highly anticipated&nbsp;Tesla(ticker: TSLA)&nbsp;A.I. Day&nbsp;was supposed to shed light on the topic of autonomous driving. Instead, it opened a Pandora’s box of questions that need answering.</p>\n<p>What investors really wanted to know was when drivers will be able to text and drive safely on highways without fear of getting a traffic ticket. That answer wasn’t forthcoming. Instead, investors were asked to digest the importance of computer- designed self-driving simulations, machine learning, and cloud-based A.I. training technology. The detail was arcane.</p>\n<p>Tesla bulls, however, came away from the event blown away by Tesla’s A.I. prowess and the improvements to its autonomous-driving features. New Street Research analyst&nbsp;Pierre Ferragu&nbsp;wrote Monday that Tesla is 10 years ahead of the competition in “real-world” artificial intelligence. He believes Tesla’s autonomous- driving subscription sales can generate about $23,000 in gross profit per vehicle over a 10-year span. That is significantly more than the roughly $7,000 in gross profit Tesla makes from selling a car.</p>\n<p>He rates Tesla stock at Buy and has a target of $900 for the stock price. Shares closed Monday at $706.30, up 3.8%.</p>\n<p>Tesla bears, on the other hand, are convinced that Tesla’s claims about self- driving cars are overstated and that other companies are doing a better job developing self-driving technology.</p>\n<p>The bears’ belief is partly rooted in two reports from the research firm&nbsp;Guidehouse, which publishes automated-driving “leaderboards.” Tesla ranked dead last in the 2020 and 2021 reports.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7b2c9c6aae99c5231a325bf541cf4dca\" tg-width=\"553\" tg-height=\"915\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>That might feel odd, given that Tesla CEO Elon Musk often talks about how advanced Tesla’s self-driving offerings are. But the Guidehouse rankings are partly based on vision systems and partnerships, two areas where Tesla doesn’t score well. The company doesn’t use laser-based radar, while other makers of self-driving cars do. And it doesn’t enter partnerships, doing everything in house.</p>\n<p>It is possible that bulls and bears are both right and are talking past each other. Waymo, for instance, leads in the Guidehouse rankings. It has deployed fully autonomous robotaxis in Arizona. That is quite a feat.</p>\n<p>Tesla’s systems aren’t good enough to be robotaxis. They qualify as level 2 autonomy, which means drivers must be engaged at all times. But the systems enabling the Waymo robotaxi can cost upwards of $100,000 per vehicle. That is too pricey for consumer vehicles.</p>\n<p>In October 2020,<i>Consumer Reports</i>&nbsp;ranked the automated-driving systems available to, well, consumers. Overall, Tesla’s automated driver system ranked second to&nbsp;General Motors(GM). Tesla scored highest on capability and ease of use, but ranked poorly on keeping the driver engaged.</p>\n<p>One reason for that low score might be that Tesla’s automated-driving systems aren’t “hands free” solutions. Drivers need to keep their hands on, or touching, the steering wheel to keep the system on. There are “hands free” systems that use interior cameras to make sure a driver’s eyes are on the road at all times.</p>\n<p>Camera monitoring might be better than haptic steering-wheel feedback. That is a debate for car companies and regulators.</p>\n<p>Practically speaking, hands free and hands required isn’t the basis for competitive differentiation. All the systems on offer today, hands free or not, require drivers to be engaged 100% of the time.</p>\n<p>Autonomous driving studies and reports will proliferate in coming years. Each will have different criteria for judging what is best. Eventually, investors will probably have to test out autonomous-driving systems for themselves. In a race to disrupt residential real estate, one of the largest markets in the world, Opendoor's long-term potential could bring big returns for patient investors.</p>\n<p>Despite the upside, the market hasn't yet appreciated Opendoor's accomplishments; the stock is down more than 50% from its highs. There are three important clues that Opendoor could be a compelling investment idea for bold investors.</p>\n<h3>1. Opendoor is winning the iBuying battle</h3>\n<p>The traditional home-buying process in the United States is slow and handled by multiple parties, including agents, lawyers, inspectors, and bankers. This creates a lot of back and forth paperwork and drags the process out to more than 30 days, on average.</p>\n<p>Opendoor pioneered the concept of \"iBuying,\" where the buying and selling of a house are digitized, and a company like Opendoor works directly with sellers to provide them with a cash offer and a digital closing process. The company then resells the house on the market. The iBuying process cuts out agents and some of the fees associated with traditional closings, such as agent commissions. Opendoor then resells the house on the market and charges a service fee of up to 5% on the transaction.</p>\n<p>After seeing Opendoor steadily grow with its iBuying concept, competitors have also begun to offer iBuying services, including&nbsp;<b>Zillow Group</b>&nbsp;and Offerpad. Because of how capital intensive the business is (a lot of money is needed to buy and sell thousands of houses) and how price competitive the housing market is, these companies are racing to get as big as possible. As the companies buy and sell more homes, they have the ability to become more profitable by leveraging outsourced contractors to save money, and its pricing algorithm improves as it sees more transactions.</p>\n<p>According to iBuyerStats, a website dedicated to tracking the competitors found in iBuying, Opendoor has consistently had the most housing inventory available for sale. It currently has roughly 3,300 houses for sale, 53% more than Zillow and more than four times as many as Offerpad.</p>\n<h3>2. Revenue growth is ahead of schedule</h3>\n<p>When companies go public viaSPACmerger, they lay out a public presentation of their business, often including long-term growth projections. Opendoor laid out its pre-merger investor presentation about a year ago, in September 2020.</p>\n<p>Fast forward to the company's recent 2021 Q2 earnings call. CEO and founder Eric Wu said on the earnings call, \"... based on our current progress, our second half revenue run rate is on track to exceed our 2023 target, a full two years ahead of plan.\"</p>\n<p>In other words, if Opendoor were to operate for 12 months at the level the business currently is, it would surpass the $9.8 billion in revenue it projected for 2023. This is an underlooked point because if Opendoor is already two years ahead of its original growth curve, where will it be by 2023? Sure, a dip in the housing market or other events could disrupt the company's speed of growth, but Opendoor is showing the world that the business is operating at a high level.</p>\n<h3>3. SPACs are out of favor with the market... opportunity?</h3>\n<p>Investors have overlooked this strong performance, focusing instead on the fact that Opendoor joined the public market via SPAC merger. It has hardly mattered what operating results or earnings have looked like for former SPACs; the stock market has been selling off virtually all SPAC-based stocks for several months now.</p>\n<p>Investors have been spooked by a handful of \"bad apple\" companies turning up fraudulent, and other companies have wildly missed on the projections they made before going public. These instances have burned those involved, and investors have taken a much more cautious attitude toward SPACs as a whole.</p>\n<p>But if companies like Opendoor keep blowing away estimates, the market is likely to come around eventually. When it does, the stock price could move aggressively. If we take Eric Wu's comments about revenue and assume that Opendoor does sales of $10 billion in 2022 (in other words, Opendoor stops growing and maintains its current pace over the following year), the stock currently trades at aprice-to-sales(P/S) ratio of just 1.0. In a race to disrupt residential real estate, one of the largest markets in the world, Opendoor's long-term potential could bring big returns for patient investors.\nDespite the upside, the market hasn't yet appreciated Opendoor's accomplishments; the stock is down more than 50% from its highs. There are three important clues that Opendoor could be a compelling investment idea for bold investors.\n1. Opendoor is winning the iBuying battle\nThe traditional home-buying process in the United States is slow and handled by multiple parties, including agents, lawyers, inspectors, and bankers. This creates a lot of back and forth paperwork and drags the process out to more than 30 days, on average.\nOpendoor pioneered the concept of \"iBuying,\" where the buying and selling of a house are digitized, and a company like Opendoor works directly with sellers to provide them with a cash offer and a digital closing process. The company then resells the house on the market. The iBuying process cuts out agents and some of the fees associated with traditional closings, such as agent commissions. Opendoor then resells the house on the market and charges a service fee of up to 5% on the transaction.\nAfter seeing Opendoor steadily grow with its iBuying concept, competitors have also begun to offer iBuying services, including Zillow Group and Offerpad. Because of how capital intensive the business is (a lot of money is needed to buy and sell thousands of houses) and how price competitive the housing market is, these companies are racing to get as big as possible. As the companies buy and sell more homes, they have the ability to become more profitable by leveraging outsourced contractors to save money, and its pricing algorithm improves as it sees more transactions.\nAccording to iBuyerStats, a website dedicated to tracking the competitors found in iBuying, Opendoor has consistently had the most housing inventory available for sale. It currently has roughly 3,300 houses for sale, 53% more than Zillow and more than four times as many as Offerpad.\n2. Revenue growth is ahead of schedule\nWhen companies go public viaSPACmerger, they lay out a public presentation of their business, often including long-term growth projections. Opendoor laid out its pre-merger investor presentation about a year ago, in September 2020.\nFast forward to the company's recent 2021 Q2 earnings call. CEO and founder Eric Wu said on the earnings call, \"... based on our current progress, our second half revenue run rate is on track to exceed our 2023 target, a full two years ahead of plan.\"\nIn other words, if Opendoor were to operate for 12 months at the level the business currently is, it would surpass the $9.8 billion in revenue it projected for 2023. This is an underlooked point because if Opendoor is already two years ahead of its original growth curve, where will it be by 2023? Sure, a dip in the housing market or other events could disrupt the company's speed of growth, but Opendoor is showing the world that the business is operating at a high level.\n3. SPACs are out of favor with the market... opportunity?\nInvestors have overlooked this strong performance, focusing instead on the fact that Opendoor joined the public market via SPAC merger. It has hardly mattered what operating results or earnings have looked like for former SPACs; the stock market has been selling off virtually all SPAC-based stocks for several months now.\nInvestors have been spooked by a handful of \"bad apple\" companies turning up fraudulent, and other companies have wildly missed on the projections they made before going public. These instances have burned those involved, and investors have taken a much more cautious attitude toward SPACs as a whole.\nBut if companies like Opendoor keep blowing away estimates, the market is likely to come around eventually. When it does, the stock price could move aggressively. If we take Eric Wu's comments about revenue and assume that Opendoor does sales of $10 billion in 2022 (in other words, Opendoor stops growing and maintains its current pace over the following year), the stock currently trades at aprice-to-sales(P/S) ratio of just 1.0. Management is guiding for revenue to jump 30% year over year -- or almost twice the 16% rate the company expects industry-wide spending on online insurance advertising to grow each year through 2024.</p>\n<p>That ad spending is how EverQuote generates revenue: It has over 100 carriers in its marketplace, especially in auto insurance, where most of thetop insurersparticipate. It also has a network of over 85,000 agents.</p>\n<p>The auto market is currently EverQuote's biggest vertical, because its platform is eminently scalable. But it is increasinglyexpanding into new markets, including home, life, and health insurance. And the challenges were summed up when the company's founder and former CEO Trevor Milton wascharged with three counts of fraudby federal prosecutors last week for allegedly making false and misleading statements to investors.</p>\n<p>The word \"former\" is key here, though, as Milton stepped down from the company last year (the alleged criminal acts were committed between 2019 and 2020). So when the company reports second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, it will arguably have the most heavy lifting to do to convince investors it's still not some smoke-and-mirrors operation.</p>\n<p>That shouldn't be too hard. In May, it signed agreements with Total Transportation Services for 100 semi trucks, and in mid-July, it added 51 more dealerships in nine states, bringing total sales and service locations up to 116 sites.</p>\n<p>The stock of thisalternative-fuel truck makeris in the tank, however, down 85% since last June. Macao, where Wynn generates most of its revenue and profits, is stilllimping back to recovery, growing at a far slower rate than originally anticipated, and Las Vegas could feel the impact of new mask mandates going into effect.</p>\n<p>Although the latter situation won't affect the company's second-quarter results, it will hang over the report as investors mull what this potential step backward in the recovery from COVID-19 means for the future of Las Vegas and the resorts that operate there.</p>\n<p>In short, neither destination is bound to serve as a bright spot for the company, and analysts expect the global&nbsp;casino operator&nbsp;to post an adjusted loss of $1.52 per share, substantially better than the loss of $6.12 per share a year ago, but that's a pretty low hurdle to clear.</p>\n<p>We'll get a better idea of how Macao performed in July by the time Wynn Resorts reports, but few are expecting major gains, and that could weigh even more heavily on the company. In a race to disrupt residential real estate, one of the largest markets in the world, Opendoor's long-term potential could bring big returns for patient investors.</p>\n<p>Despite the upside, the market hasn't yet appreciated Opendoor's accomplishments; the stock is down more than 50% from its highs. There are three important clues that Opendoor could be a compelling investment idea for bold investors.</p>\n<h3>1. Opendoor is winning the iBuying battle</h3>\n<p>The traditional home-buying process in the United States is slow and handled by multiple parties, including agents, lawyers, inspectors, and bankers. This creates a lot of back and forth paperwork and drags the process out to more than 30 days, on average.</p>\n<p>Opendoor pioneered the concept of \"iBuying,\" where the buying and selling of a house are digitized, and a company like Opendoor works directly with sellers to provide them with a cash offer and a digital closing process. The company then resells the house on the market. The iBuying process cuts out agents and some of the fees associated with traditional closings, such as agent commissions. Opendoor then resells the house on the market and charges a service fee of up to 5% on the transaction.</p>\n<p>After seeing Opendoor steadily grow with its iBuying concept, competitors have also begun to offer iBuying services, including&nbsp;<b>Zillow Group</b>&nbsp;and Offerpad. Because of how capital intensive the business is (a lot of money is needed to buy and sell thousands of houses) and how price competitive the housing market is, these companies are racing to get as big as possible. As the companies buy and sell more homes, they have the ability to become more profitable by leveraging outsourced contractors to save money, and its pricing algorithm improves as it sees more transactions.</p>\n<p>According to iBuyerStats, a website dedicated to tracking the competitors found in iBuying, Opendoor has consistently had the most housing inventory available for sale. It currently has roughly 3,300 houses for sale, 53% more than Zillow and more than four times as many as Offerpad.</p>\n<h3>2. Revenue growth is ahead of schedule</h3>\n<p>When companies go public viaSPACmerger, they lay out a public presentation of their business, often including long-term growth projections. Opendoor laid out its pre-merger investor presentation about a year ago, in September 2020.</p>\n<p>Fast forward to the company's recent 2021 Q2 earnings call. CEO and founder Eric Wu said on the earnings call, \"... based on our current progress, our second half revenue run rate is on track to exceed our 2023 target, a full two years ahead of plan.\"</p>\n<p>In other words, if Opendoor were to operate for 12 months at the level the business currently is, it would surpass the $9.8 billion in revenue it projected for 2023. This is an underlooked point because if Opendoor is already two years ahead of its original growth curve, where will it be by 2023? Sure, a dip in the housing market or other events could disrupt the company's speed of growth, but Opendoor is showing the world that the business is operating at a high level.</p>\n<h3>3. SPACs are out of favor with the market... opportunity?</h3>\n<p>Investors have overlooked this strong performance, focusing instead on the fact that Opendoor joined the public market via SPAC merger. It has hardly mattered what operating results or earnings have looked like for former SPACs; the stock market has been selling off virtually all SPAC-based stocks for several months now.</p>\n<p>Investors have been spooked by a handful of \"bad apple\" companies turning up fraudulent, and other companies have wildly missed on the projections they made before going public.
