In fact, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the distinguishing characteristics of a bubble is that such concern is widespread.</p><p>This seems counterintuitive. You would think that a bubble is most vulnerable to forming and then popping when investors are oblivious to that possibility. But you would be wrong.</p><p>It's important for all of us to be aware of this bubble psychology, but especially if you're a retiree or a near-retiree. That's because, in that case, your investment horizon will be shorter than for those who are younger, and you therefore are less able to recover from the deflation of a market bubble.</p><p>To appreciate how widespread current concern about a bubble is, consider the accompanying chart of data from Google Trends. It plots the relative frequency of Google searches based on the term \"stock market bubble.\" Notice that this frequency has recently jumped to a far-higher level than at any other point over the last five years.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/10c79372e12449d1f3e00acd1666c914\" tg-width=\"1260\" tg-height=\"849\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p><p>This widespread concern is entirely consistent with a bubble's formation, according to a definition proposed several decades ago by Robert Shiller, the Yale finance professor and Nobel laureate. According to him, a bubble is \"a market situation in which news of price increases spurs investor enthusiasm which spreads by psychological contagion from person to person, bringing in a larger and larger class of investors, who, despite doubts about fundamental value, are drawn to the investment partly through envy of others' successes and partly through a gambler's excitement.\" (I italicized the above phrase, not Shiller.)</p><p>Notice that recognition of overvaluation is an integral part of the definition.</p><p>This recognition was certainly present during the weeks and months prior to the popping of the Internet bubble in March 2000. During the early and middle years of the 1990s, you may recall, it was possible to justify higher prices while keeping a straight face. But that became less and less possible as prices continued going higher in the late 1990s, and especially as some dot-com companies went public with huge valuations despite having no assets, revenue or business plan.</p><p>Rather than responding by taking some chips off the table, however, many began freely admitting that a bubble was forming. They no longer tried to justify higher prices on fundamentals, but began justifying it instead in terms of the market's momentum. Prices should keep going up as FOMO seduces more and more investors to jump on the bandwagon.</p><p>There is no shortage of current analogies, of course. Take dogecoin, which was created as a joke and has no fundamental value. As a recent Wall Street Journal article outlined , the dogecoin \"serves no purpose and, unlike Bitcoin, faces no limit on the number of coins that exist.\" Yet investors are flocking to it, for no other apparent reason than it has already gone up so much. Billy Markus, the co-creator of dogecoin, was quoted in that Wall Street Journal article saying \"This is absurd. I haven't seen anything like it. It's one of those things that once it starts going up, it might keep going up.\"</p><p>Needless to say, things don't go up forever. Those who nevertheless continue to invest in such an environment do so with the implicit assumption that they will be able to recognize it, in advance, when the bubble is about to pop--and therefore able to leave the party before everyone else. This is a dangerous delusion, however; not everyone can be the first to leave the party.</p><p>The bottom line? Far from being a reason why a bubble isn't forming, the widespread current concern about a possible bubble is actually a reason to worry that it could be. If the ISM really is peaking, it could set the stock market up for a short, but painful, decline, warns Deutsche Bank’s Binky Chadha.</p>\n<p>Now Goldman Sachs strategist Ben Snider has a similar warning. He notes that the&nbsp;S&amp;P 500&nbsp;typically has returned 0.6% a month when growth was positive but slowing, half the monthly gain of 1.2% when it was positive and accelerating. And buying the market when the ISM is above 60—a level that usually coincides with peak growth—has led to a 1% decline during the month immediately following the peak and a gain of just 3% over the next 12 months. “[Equities] often struggle in the short term when a strong rate of economic growth first begins to slow,” Snider writes.</p>\n<p>Not everyone agrees with that assessment. The market’s big worry, at the moment, is over when the Fed will raise interest rates. So a deceleration in the ISM, particularly in the prices-paid component, could be met with relief because it would mean the Fed wouldn’t have to raise rates to cool an overheating economy, says Dave Donabedian, chief investment officer at CIBC Private Wealth Management. “This environment is somewhat unique,” he says.</p>\n<p>Still, if the U.S. is starting to decelerate, Europe, Japan, and emerging markets are likely to accelerate, particularly as they start to get Covid-19 under control. That means investors should consider buying economically sensitive stocks with international exposure. The real number is likely to be even higher, with the Atlanta Fed’s GDP Now tool forecasting an 8.3% rise based on incoming data.\nSuch strength brings concerns about peaking growth. Just two weeks ago in this space, we highlighted the surge in the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing survey, which hit 64.7 in March. It was a great number, but also one that will have a hard time going higher. If the ISM really is peaking, it could set the stock market up for a short, but painful, decline, warns Deutsche Bank’s Binky Chadha.\nNow Goldman Sachs strategist Ben Snider has a similar warning. He notes that the S&P 500 typically has returned 0.6% a month when growth was positive but slowing, half the monthly gain of 1.2% when it was positive and accelerating. And buying the market when the ISM is above 60—a level that usually coincides with peak growth—has led to a 1% decline during the month immediately following the peak and a gain of just 3% over the next 12 months. “[Equities] often struggle in the short term when a strong rate of economic growth first begins to slow,” Snider writes.\nNot everyone agrees with that assessment. The market’s big worry, at the moment, is over when the Fed will raise interest rates. So a deceleration in the ISM, particularly in the prices-paid component, could be met with relief because it would mean the Fed wouldn’t have to raise rates to cool an overheating economy, says Dave Donabedian, chief investment officer at CIBC Private Wealth Management. “This environment is somewhat unique,” he says.\nStill, if the U.S. is starting to decelerate, Europe, Japan, and emerging markets are likely to accelerate, particularly as they start to get Covid-19 under control. That means investors should consider buying economically sensitive stocks with international exposure. Goldman’s picks include gold miner Newmont (ticker: NEM), auto-parts maker BorgWarner (BWA), lithium provider Albemarle (ALB), and a basket of European stocks, including Ryanair Holdings (RYA.Ireland), Restaurant Group (RTN.UK), and H&M Hennes & Mauritz (HM.B.Sweden).\n A little diversification never It works with mortgage-backed securities. You see, once a mortgage is signed, it is then usually sliced up into smaller pieces – short term, intermediate term and long term, for example. Each of those pieces is then bundled with other similar pieces of other mortgages and then resold as a mortgage-backed security (MBS).</p>\n<p>With low interest rates for as far as the eye can see, ARR is in the middle of a big run on real estate, and that works out very well for its investors.</p>\n<p>Right now, ARR is delivering a 9.8% dividend, and the stock is up 53% in the past 12 months.</p>\n<p>ARR has a C rating in Portfolio Grader. But it’s still attractive among other similar growth stocks.</p>\n<p><b>AGNC Investment Corp (AGNC)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27f7aea9e52262afb3ae4ae426525efd\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: ImageFlow/shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>Born in the wake of the last real estate meltdown in 2008, AGNC also focuses on MBSs. But it’s significantly larger than ARR and hedges much of its portfolio of securities with a majority of its holdings being backed by the U.S. government or by government sponsored enterprises (GSEs).</p>\n<p>This adds a level of safety to the process, although it does have investments outside of these protected securities.</p>\n<p>The good thing is, its size is helpful in being able to access a broad selection of mortgages, so it doesn’t have to stick with one piece of the market. Diversity is key in this sector.</p>\n<p>Also, its team is well acquainted with the risks in this industry so it navigates with prudence. AGNC is up nearly 51% in the past year, with 12% of that growth occurring since the start of the year. AGNC&nbsp; also delivers an 8.3% dividend, which is still very rich for most dividend stocks.</p>\n<p>AGNC has an A rating in Portfolio Grader.</p>\n<p><b>US Global Investors (GROW)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c4f50ab1ed4d008f649b593f4cae2aae\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Sergii Gnatiuk/ShutterStock.com</p>\n<p>Surprisingly, GROW isn’t a REIT. It’s apparently lived up to its ticker’s name however, because the stock went on a tear this past year, growing 532% in the past 12 months. The dividend however is small at 0.7%.</p>\n<p>So what’s the glow about GROW?</p>\n<p>Even after that huge run, GROW is selling at a current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio below 10. And this cash influx will be put to good use in building its funds and launching new ones. At that point, the dividend will grow, and investors will still get a solid growth company with an expanding dividend.</p>\n<p>We have watched management build this investment management company for decades. They know what they’re doing. Its market cap is around $126 million, so it’s a boutique player, but a solid one.</p>\n<p>GROW has an A rating in Portfolio Grader.</p>\n<p><b>Orchid Island Capital (ORC)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1ec27692b098d4858748a3e7b49cfc13\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>When the real estate market collapsed in 2008, most mortgage companies, including the biggest and best in the U.S., crashed and burned simply because real estate prices were no longer as “real” as people had thought. When prices dropped, everyone funding those properties had to revalue their entire portfolios.</p>\n<p>When the dust settled, it was time to rebuild. And ORC was part of that rebuild, founded in 2010.</p>\n<p>But this time around, the risks weren’t abstractions, they were recent history. That meant rebuilding had to be done under more regulations as well as structured better than before. ORC is one of the growth stocks that came out of the mess better for the experience and now it’s doing very well from its Florida base with its focus on residential MBSs.</p>\n<p>ORC stock is up 62% in the past 12 months, yet it’s delivering a whopping dividend of 14.34%. That’s more than 1% a month!</p>\n<p>ORC has an A rating in Portfolio Grader.</p>\n<p><b>Ellington Financial (EFC)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0fb1aa270d74c4707e56af2a75a70f99\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, this REIT is a bit more diversified than most growth stocks in this sector. It focuses on commercial and residential MBSs like its peers, but it also has other investments like collateralized debt obligations and equity investments.</p>\n<p>In early April, EFC announced it was raising its dividend a whopping 40% — it has a 9.5% dividend — which gives you some indication on whether the company sees a bullish future in store. The stock is up 88% in the past year, but its market cap is still under $1 billion, around $771 million at this point. That makes it a decent-sized boutique player. But it’s a little pricey here.</p>\n<p>EFC has a B rating in Portfolio Grader.</p>\n<p><b>Main Street Capital (MAIN)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dee59cbc5fc6178f37e4c28cc5bf4584\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Carolyn Franks / Shutterstock.com</p>\n<p>If you’re looking for a company that is focused on building out the U.S. economy beyond real estate, this business development company (BDC) may be just what you’re looking for. BDCs are an interesting niche, and a low-interest-rate, expanding economy is just the ticket.</p>\n<p>Like REITs, BDCs get certain tax breaks for providing investors with direct access to net profits via dividends.</p>\n<p>Basically, MAIN lends money, structures debt or takes some involvement in attractive businesses that are generating annual revenue between $10 million and $150 million. Over the years it has had over 200 companies in its portfolio. This sector is also a key beneficiary of the PPP loans distributed, which means they’re staffed up and ready to grow as the economy revives.</p>\n<p>The stock is up about 69% in the past 12 months and has a dividend of nearly 6%, which is solid. It’s a bit pricey now, but when its portfolio kicks in earnings should come back quickly.</p>\n<p>MAIN has a B rating in Portfolio Grader.</p>\n<p><b>Dynex Capital (DX)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9f1af989de258b93193570eb129cff09\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Shutterstock</p>\n<p>This is another MBS-focused REIT, with a market cap just under $600 million. The one standout feature for DX among these other dividend stocks is the fact that it was founded in 1988.</p>\n<p>That means it has weathered more than a couple real estate boom and bust cycles, including 2008. Its goal of long-term appreciation through dividends and responsible growth has kept it chugging along. That also means what you get in reliability, you might not get in sexiness.</p>\n<p>That said, DX is up nearly 49% in the past 12 months and sports a dividend of of 8%. AGNC is up nearly 51% in the past year, with 12% of that growth occurring since the start of the year. It’s apparently lived up to its ticker’s name however, because the stock went on a tear this past year, growing 532% in the past 12 months. The dividend however is small at 0.7%.\nSo what’s the glow about GROW?\nEven after that huge run, GROW is selling at a current price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio below 10. And this cash influx will be put to good use in building its funds and launching new ones. At that point, the dividend will grow, and investors will still get a solid growth company with an expanding dividend.\nWe have watched management build this investment management company for decades. They know what they’re doing. Its market cap is around $126 million, so it’s a boutique player, but a solid one.\nGROW has an A rating in Portfolio Grader.\nOrchid Island Capital (ORC)Source: Shutterstock\nWhen the real estate market collapsed in 2008, most mortgage companies, including the biggest and best in the U.S., crashed and burned simply because real estate prices were no longer as “real” as people had thought. When prices dropped, everyone funding those properties had to revalue their entire portfolios.\nWhen the dust settled, it was time to rebuild. And ORC was part of that rebuild, founded in 2010.\nBut this time around, the risks weren’t abstractions, they were recent history. That meant rebuilding had to be done under more regulations as well as structured better than before. ORC is one of the growth stocks that came out of the mess better for the experience and now it’s doing very well from its Florida base with its focus on residential MBSs.\nORC stock is up 62% in the past 12 months, yet it’s delivering a whopping dividend of 14.34%. It focuses on commercial and residential MBSs like its peers, but it also has other investments like collateralized debt obligations and equity investments.\nIn early April, EFC announced it was raising its dividend a whopping 40% — it has a 9.5% dividend — which gives you some indication on whether the company sees a bullish future in store. The stock is up 88% in the past year, but its market cap is still under $1 billion, around $771 million at this point. That makes it a decent-sized boutique player. Over the years it has had over 200 companies in its portfolio. This sector is also a key beneficiary of the PPP loans distributed, which means they’re staffed up and ready to grow as the economy revives.\nThe stock is up about 69% in the past 12 months and has a dividend of nearly 6%, which is solid. Now, speculation is growing among retail traders that it could be about to make a run back toward its highs.\n“Palantir saw above-averagecallactivity [Monday], about 90,000 contracts more than it trades on average, and the most action was seen in the 24-, 25- and 26-strike calls that expire this coming Friday. The 24-strike calls, for example, traded about 45,000 contracts. Those were trading for just under 70 cents,” Optimize Advisors CIO Michael Khouw said Monday on CNBC’s “Fast Money.”\nThose 24-strike calls break even at an underlying stock price of $24.70, or about 6% higher from where Palantir closed Monday’s session. More bullish traders who took a chance on the 26-strike calls would need to see a jump of more than 12% by Friday’s close to break even.\nPalantir was more than 2% higher in Tuesday’s Biden will outline Wednesday will include roughly $2 trillion in spending over eight years, and would raise the corporate tax rate to 28% to fund it, an administration official told reporters Tuesday night.\nThe White House said the tax hike, combined with measures designed to stop offshoring of profits, would fund the infrastructure plan within 15 years.\nThe proposal would:\n\nPut $621 billion The company is seeking to sell 26.3 million shares at a price point of $18 to $20.</p><p><b>Latham Group:</b>A designer, manufacturer and marketer of in-ground residential pools in North America, Australia and New Zealandplansto go public this week.</p><p><b>Latham Group</b>&nbsp;NASDAQ:&nbsp;SWIM&nbsp;plans to sell 20 million shares at a price point of $19 to $21.</p><p>The company sells fiberglass products that are more durable and use less chemicals, according to the company. Latham sold 8,700 fiberglass pools in 2020 and reported its 11th consecutive year of net sales growth.</p><p>The company had revenue of $408 million in fiscal 2020, and&nbsp;59% of it came from in-ground pool sales.</p><p>In 2018, the company shifted from a business-to-business model to business-to-consumer, making it&nbsp;the only pool company with a direct relationship to the homeowner, according to the company.</p><p>Fiberglass pools are still a small market in North America compared to international markets, Latham says. He notes that the&nbsp;S&amp;P 500&nbsp;typically has returned 0.6% a month when growth was positive but slowing, half the monthly gain of 1.2% when it was positive and accelerating. And buying the market when the ISM is above 60—a level that usually coincides with peak growth—has led to a 1% decline during the month immediately following the peak and a gain of just 3% over the next 12 months. “[Equities] often struggle in the short term when a strong rate of economic growth first begins to slow,” Snider writes.</p>\n<p>Not everyone agrees with that assessment. The market’s big worry, at the moment, is over when the Fed will raise interest rates. So a deceleration in the ISM, particularly in the prices-paid component, could be met with relief because it would mean the Fed wouldn’t have to raise rates to cool an overheating economy, says Dave Donabedian, chief investment officer at CIBC Private Wealth Management. “This environment is somewhat unique,” he says.</p>\n<p>Still, if the U.S. is starting to decelerate, Europe, Japan, and emerging markets are likely to accelerate, particularly as they start to get Covid-19 under control. That means investors should consider buying economically sensitive stocks with international exposure. It’s expected to be good—very good—with real gross domestic product growing at an annualized 5.6% clip. The real number is likely to be even higher, with the Atlanta Fed’s GDP Now tool forecasting an 8.3% rise based on incoming data.\nSuch strength brings concerns about peaking growth. Just two weeks ago in this space, we highlighted the surge in the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing survey, which hit 64.7 in March. It was a great number, but also one that will have a hard time going higher. If the ISM really is peaking, it could set the stock market up for a short, but painful, decline, warns Deutsche Bank’s Binky Chadha.\nNow Goldman Sachs strategist Ben Snider has a similar warning. He notes that the S&P 500 typically has returned 0.6% a month when growth was positive but slowing, half the monthly gain of 1.2% when it was positive and accelerating. And buying the market when the ISM is above 60—a level that usually coincides with peak growth—has led to a 1% decline during the month immediately following the peak and a gain of just 3% over the next 12 months. “[Equities] often struggle in the short term when a strong rate of economic growth first begins to slow,” Snider writes.\nNot everyone agrees with that assessment. The market’s big worry, at the moment, is over when the Fed will raise interest rates. So a deceleration in the ISM, particularly in the prices-paid component, could be met with relief because it would mean the Fed wouldn’t have to raise rates to cool an overheating economy, says Dave Donabedian, chief investment officer at CIBC Private Wealth Management. “This environment is somewhat unique,” he says.\nStill, if the U.S. is starting to decelerate, Europe, Japan, and emerging markets are likely to accelerate, particularly as they start to get Covid-19 under control.
