Thursday, the CEOs of both companies tried again to sell the deal as positive for the industry.
\n
Nvidia (ticker: NVDA) has a lot of people to convince. To go through, the deal needs regulatory approval from the U.S., European Union, U.K., and China. Opposition from other semiconductor companies, and elsewhere in the tech sector, has been mounting for months. Combined, Arm and Nvidia could become a formidable rival of Intel(INTC).
\n
At the Six Five Summit Thursday, Arm CEO Simon Segars made the case that if it stays independent, Arm wouldn’t be able to keep up with the increasing demands of its customers for more complex chips that can perform a wider variety of functions.
\n
“As I think of in the future, the range of products our licensees want to build is growing and growing,” Segars said. “What they’re asking from us is increasing and increasing because of the complexity going up, and there is no way that we can do that on our own.”
\n
Beyond supporting Arm at a larger scale, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the acquisition is an opportunity to create a company that can generate even more new ideas, and bring more innovation to its customers in the form of intellectual property.
\n
“The benefit to the market, and to the Arm customers will be more IP, better IP, more accelerated road maps and hopefully taking Arm to the far reaches of what is becoming …the diversity of computing that is literally going in every single direction,” Huang said. “You’re covering from cloud, to edge, to [internet of things], to high performance computing, to microprocessors, to accelerated computing—everything.”
\n
Not everyone agrees that the deal is a good idea. Incoming Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has said that Arm’s ecosystem of processor technology is powerful because it is open. Arm has long been willing to license its architecture to anyone because it only makes the blueprints for the technology, and doesn’t design or fabricate chips itself.
\n
“Arm already won, and won everywhere,” Amon has said, referring to Arm-based chips powering almost every smartphone. “After the battle is won because of its independence, to say, ‘let’s make it better by taking that away’, doesn’t make any sense.”
\n
There have been reports of other tech companies such as Alphabet (GOOGL), and Microsoft(MSFT) urging regulators to intervene. Nvidia announced its plan to buy Arm last year, and said the deal would close in 2022. Nvidia finance chief Colette Kress has said the deal is on track.
\n
Nvidia shares rallied in Thursday trading. The stock closed up 4.8% at $746.29 after Jefferies analyst Mark Lipacis raised his target for the stock price to $854 from $740, and reiterated his Buy rating.
\n
Also Thursday, Alphabet’s Google Cloud said that it had selected Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) chips to power a new virtual-machine product it is adding to its cloud-computing offerings. AMD shares rallied 6.1% to $84.95 in regular trading. The Tau VM virtual machines Google announced are a cheap way to add additional capacity for companies using cloud computing.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why the Nvidia-Arm Merger Would Be Good for Tech, According to Their CEOs
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy the Nvidia-Arm Merger Would Be Good for Tech, According to Their CEOs\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-18 11:00 GMT+8 Barrons\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Nvidia‘s $40 billion plan to acquire U.K. chip technology provider Arm Holdings will reshape the industry, so rivals are concerned. Newspress","summary":"JD Logistics Inc., the delivery arm of e-commerce giant JD.com Inc., is set to raise about HK$24.6 b","content":"
JD Logistics Inc., the delivery arm of e-commerce giant JD.com Inc., is set to raise about HK$24.6 billion ($3.2 billion) after planning to price its Hong Kong initial public offering near the bottom of a marketed range, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The warehousing and shipping company is telling prospective investors that it plans to price 609.2 million shares at HK$40.36 each, the people said, asking not to be identified as the information is private. It had marketed the shares at HK$39.36 to HK$43.36 apiece. An external representative for the company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The JD.com unit’s debut next week will test the waters for investor demand in Hong Kong’s IPO market, which has cooled because of concerns over rising inflation and weakness in global stocks. It is the second-largest listing in the city this year, after short video company Kuaishou Technology’s $6.2 billion float in February.

While first-time share sales in the Asian financial hub have had their best start to the year on record, with $20.5 billion raised so far, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, investor appetite for new stock offerings has petered out recently, with the massive first-day pops seen at the beginning of the year all but gone. For example, SF Real Estate Investment Trust fell 16.5% in its debut on the Hong Kong bourse Monday.

JD Logistics attracted seven cornerstone investors to its offering, who agreed to subscribe for about $1.53 billion of stock, including SoftBank Vision Fund, Temasek Holdings Pte, Blackstone Group Inc. and Tiger Global.

Created in 2007 and set up as a standalone unit under JD.com a decade later, JD Logistics’ networks include both so-called last mile and longer distance lines, as well as cold chain and bulky item networks, according to its prospectus. The REIT’s current FY2021 dividend yield of 4% “looks decent”.

SGX would be a “key beneficiary” of the second circuit breaker as investors look to place capital into financial markets in lieu of discretionary spending.

On this, Lim notes that the average monthly total market turnover on the SGX rose to $29.8 billion in 2020 (versus $22.1 billion in 2019) following the first round of circuit breaker measures implemented in April 2020.

“Given the average turnover of $30.3 billion in April, we see upside in trading volumes,” she writes in a May 14 note.

“On the flip side, [the current measures] introduce risks that banks may tone down their outlook on domestic economic recovery. That said, we think the impact on transaction-based fees may not be as severe as seen during [the first circuit breaker] as both banks and customers have since adapted to new-normal virtual practices,” she adds.

ST Engineering has a diversified business and strong order book of $15.7 billion as at end-March.

“Defence/public spending and strong demand for freighters globally should provide earnings visibility for the group and are key catalysts for the stock, in our view,” says Lim.

Glove stock Riverstone “offers strong near-term earnings visibility”, says Lim.

Its current valuation of 5 times FY2021 price-to-earnings (P/E) is cheap, in our view.”

“Higher dividend payout remains a key catalyst – assuming 60% DPR, FY21F dividend yield could reach 13.2%,” she adds.

Wilmar’s earnings are “more defensive” than its peers, as proven by its record earnings in the 1QFY2021. The group derives 60% to 70% of its earnings from food products as well as feed and industrial products segments in China.

“Wilmar could benefit from higher consumer products sales which will help cushion any drop in demand from hotel restaurant and café (HORECA) sector during periods of lockdowns in some countries,” writes Lim.

Shares in Keppel DC REIT, SGX, ST Engineering, Riverstone and Wilmar closed $2.68, $10.23, $3.77, $1.49 and $4.82 on May 19.
","source":"edge_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The REIT’s current FY2021 dividend yield of 4% “looks decent”.SGX would be a “key beneficiary” of the second circuit breaker as investors look to place capital into financial markets in lieu of discretionary spending. On this, Lim notes that the average monthly total market turnover on the SGX rose to $29.8 billion in 2020 (versus $22.1 billion in 2019) following the first round of circuit breaker measures implemented in April 2020.“Given the average turnover of $30.3 billion in April, we see upside in trading volumes,” she writes in a May 14 note.“On the flip side, [the current measures] introduce risks that banks may tone down their outlook on domestic economic recovery. That said, we think the impact on transaction-based fees may not be as severe as seen during [the first circuit breaker] as both banks and customers have since adapted to new-normal virtual practices,” she adds.ST Engineering has a diversified business and strong order book of $15.7 billion as at end-March.“Defence/public spending and strong demand for freighters globally should provide earnings visibility for the group and are key catalysts for the stock, in our view,” says Lim.Glove stock Riverstone “offers strong near-term earnings visibility”, says Lim.Its current valuation of 5 times FY2021 price-to-earnings (P/E) is cheap, in our view.”“Higher dividend payout remains a key catalyst – assuming 60% DPR, FY21F dividend yield could reach 13.2%,” she adds.Wilmar’s earnings are “more defensive” than its peers, as proven by its record earnings in the 1QFY2021. The group derives 60% to 70% of its earnings from food products as well as feed and industrial products segments in China.“Wilmar could benefit from higher consumer products sales which will help cushion any drop in demand from hotel restaurant and café (HORECA) sector during periods of lockdowns in some countries,” writes Lim.Shares in Keppel DC REIT, SGX, ST Engineering, Riverstone and Wilmar closed $2.68, $10.23, $3.77, $1.49 and $4.82 on May 19.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":184,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":197361234,"gmtCreate":1621429519528,"gmtModify":1634189240977,"author":{"id":"3569983505645625","authorId":"3569983505645625","name":"61be4b1d","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569983505645625","authorIdStr":"3569983505645625"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Commented ","listText":"Commented ","text":"Commented","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/197361234","repostId":"2136912672","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":335,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":194669788,"gmtCreate":1621378279344,"gmtModify":1634192111515,"author":{"id":"3569983505645625","authorId":"3569983505645625","name":"61be4b1d","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3569983505645625","authorIdStr":"3569983505645625"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Commented ","listText":"Commented ","text":"Commented","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/194669788","repostId":"2135161248","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2135161248","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621343169,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2135161248?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-18 21:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"JD.com to Report Q1 Earnings: What's in the Cards?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2135161248","media":"Zacks","summary":"JD.com, Inc. is scheduled to report first-quarter 2021 results on May 19.\nFor the first quarter, the","content":"
JD.com, Inc. is scheduled to report first-quarter 2021 results on May 19.
\n
For the first quarter, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $29.9 billion, indicating an improvement of 44.9% from the year-ago reported figure.
\n
Further, the consensus mark for earnings is pegged at 39 cents per share, indicating a 39.3% rise from the previous-year reported figure.
\n
Notably, the company delivered an earnings surprise of 4.6% in the last reported quarter.
\n
JD.com, Inc. from the central bank’s goals, with some considering discussions on tapering its bond buying program.

The S&P 500 added to losses after the release of the minutes revealed a number of Fed policymakers thought that if the economy continued rapid progress, it would become appropriate “at some point” in upcoming meetings to begin discussing a tapering of the Fed’s monthly purchases of government bonds, a policy designed to keep long-term interest rates low.

“There continues to be a view and a perspective from the participants, as well as the Fed staff that these inflationary pressures that are beginning to become evident will remain transitory in their view and will likely recede as we transition into 2022,” said Bill Northey, senior investment director at U.S. Bank expire","content":"
While it's not quad (or even triple) witching day, today's a whole lot of weekly options will expire, may of which will be worthless, and others will be providing a supporting \"pin\" to underlying prices. It's why, even though we are enjoying a beautiful spring week, Goldman notes that single stock options trading activity is elevated relative to historical levels. To wit, daily options volumes are up 70% in April, up from YTD lows of $2.4bn on 30-Mar.

In total, across single stocks, $544BN of options are set to expiry today, including $305BN calls. As such, today’s expiry could be important for stocks with large open interest in at-the-money(ATM) options, as market makers delta-hedging their unusually large options portfolios will be active. This flow is likely to dampen volatility in some names while exacerbating stock price moves in others.

How to trade this?

As Goldman's Vishal Vivek writes, at major expirations, options traders track situations wherea large amount of open interest is set to expire. In situations where there is a significant amount of expiring open interest in at-the-money strikes (strike prices at or very near the current stockprice), delta-hedging activity can impact the underlying stock’s trading that day. If market makers or other options traders who delta-hedge their positions are net long ATM options, expiration-related flow could have the effect of dampening stock price movements, causing the stock price to settle near the strike with large open interest. This situation is often referred to as a “pin” and can be an ideal situation fora large investor trying to enter/exit a stock position. Alternatively, if delta-hedgers are net short ATM options (have a “negative gamma” position), their hedging activity could exacerbate stock price moves.

What that means it expiration-related trades may cause trading activity to aggressively pick up for stocks with a significant amount of ATM open interest.

So to help traders looking to hop on for daytrading opportunities, here is a table identifying possible focus stocks with large ATM open interest expiring today, which is compared to the average daily volume of the underlying stocks. As soon as markets would pause or catch a support level, that implied volatility would quickly reverse lower. We often think of this analogy that if a shark stops swimming, it sinks ( partially true!). If the market stops dropping then Implied volatility sinks.

With this, as we often talk about, lower implied volatility (ie lower VIX) signals market makers have to buy back short hedges which fuels rallies. SG's conclusion: this current level of lower implied volatility now gives the market more downside firepower.
