It was the biggest drop since November 2020.
\n
Gold miners also got hit hard. The VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF(GDX) fell 5% to $34.93, while the VanEck Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF(GDXJ) dropped 4.7% to $49.02. The S&P 500 finished the day little changed, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.6%, and theNasdaq Compositerose 0.9%.
\n
While the central bank held policy steady, it also signaled faster and sooner interest rate increases, with its forecast suggesting two increases in 2023. And the Fed increased its inflation forecasts for this year and next.
\n
Recent data showing surging prices had led many to believe the Fed would at least begin early discussions about reining in some of its ultra-accommodative policy aimed at cushioning the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic. That was the highest number since May 15.\nEconomists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting 360,000.\nThe surprise increase in claims comes following a series of incremental steps toward normalcy in the payrolls picture. Economists had expected an increase of 1.8%. Core inflation jumped to 2%, most since August 2018.The pickup reflected higher prices for fuel, restaurant meals, clothing and recreational goods as the economy took a further step out of lockdown. The central bank expects inflation to breach its 2% target temporarially this year. However, economists are increasingly concerned higher prices could prove more persistent given the rapid pace of recovery from the coronavirus recession.
\n
“Inflation has risen sharply in recent months and will rise further as the impact of higher commodities prices feed through the supply chain,” said Jack Leslie, senior economist at the Resolution Foundation. “But U.K. inflationary pressures are different -- and nowhere as near as large -- as those causing fierce debate in the U.S.”
\n
The pound was little changed against the dollar and the euro after the report.
\n
Separate figures showed that pipeline price pressures continued to build in May. Producer input prices reflecting the cost to industry for fuel and raw materials rose by 10.7% over the past year, their biggest increase in a decade. That’s pushing up the price of goods leaving factory gates at the fastest pace since 2012.
\n
The ONS said the cost of transport equipment along with metals and non-metallic minerals provided the largest upward contributions to producer price inflation.
\n
“There is a greater level of uncertainty about prices at present, with a possibility that inflation will turn out to be higher if staff shortages persist, triggering stronger wage rises, while cost increases continue to be passed on to consumers,” Yael Selfin, Chief Economist at KPMG UK.
\n
BOE Chief Economist Andy Haldane, who departs his post at the end of this month, said last week that pay and costs are already rising and high street inflation “can’t be far behind.”
\n
His colleague Gertjan Vlieghe says policy makers could raise the benchmark rate as early as next year if the labor market recovers smoothly when government job subsidies come to an end in September.
\n
Market-based inflation expectations remain close to their highest since 2008. The so-called 10-year breakeven rate -- a gauge derived from the difference between conventional gilt yields and those linked to retail-price inflation -- has risen more than 50 basis points this year.
\n
Many economies have seen prices accelerate over recent months, though policy makers continue to play down the risk of a sustained inflation outbreak. In the U.S., headline consumer inflation jumped to 5% in May, the highest in more than a decade. Euro-area inflation is running at 2%, just above the European Central Bank goal.
","source":"lsy1612507957220","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
U.K. Inflation Surges to 2.1% Unexpectedly Passing BOE Goal
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nU.K. Inflation Surges to 2.1% Unexpectedly Passing BOE Goal\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-16 14:48 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
U.K. inflation surged unexpectedly past the Bank of England’s target for the first time in almost two years, an increase that will add to speculation about when monetary policy could be tightened....
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".DJI":"道琼斯",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-k-inflation-unexpectedly-surges-060519932.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1138070155","content_text":"U.K. inflation surged unexpectedly past the Bank of England’s target for the first time in almost two years, an increase that will add to speculation about when monetary policy could be tightened.Consumer prices rose 2.1% from a year earlier, the highest since July 2019, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. However, economists are increasingly concerned higher prices could prove more persistent given the rapid pace of recovery from the coronavirus recession.\n“Inflation has risen sharply in recent months and will rise further as the impact of higher commodities prices feed through the supply chain,” said Jack Leslie, senior economist at the Resolution Foundation. “But U.K. inflationary pressures are different -- and nowhere as near as large -- as those causing fierce debate in the U.S.”\nThe pound was little changed against the dollar and the euro after the report.\nSeparate figures showed that pipeline price pressures continued to build in May. Producer input prices reflecting the cost to industry for fuel and raw materials rose by 10.7% over the past year, their biggest increase in a decade. That’s pushing up the price of goods leaving factory gates at the fastest pace since 2012.\nThe ONS said the cost of transport equipment along with metals and non-metallic minerals provided the largest upward contributions to producer price inflation.\n“There is a greater level of uncertainty about prices at present, with a possibility that inflation will turn out to be higher if staff shortages persist, triggering stronger wage rises, while cost increases continue to be passed on to consumers,” Yael Selfin, Chief Economist at KPMG UK.\nBOE Chief Economist Andy Haldane, who departs his post at the end of this month, said last week that pay and costs are already rising and high street inflation “can’t be far behind.”\nHis colleague Gertjan Vlieghe says policy makers could raise the benchmark rate as early as next year if the labor market recovers smoothly when government job subsidies come to an end in September.\nMarket-based inflation expectations remain close to their highest since 2008. The so-called 10-year breakeven rate -- a gauge derived from the difference between conventional gilt yields and those linked to retail-price inflation -- has risen more than 50 basis points this year.\nMany economies have seen prices accelerate over recent months, though policy makers continue to play down the risk of a sustained inflation outbreak. In the U.S., headline consumer inflation jumped to 5% in May, the highest in more than a decade. Euro-area inflation is running at 2%, just above the European Central Bank goal.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1213,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":163342379,"gmtCreate":1623860560791,"gmtModify":1634026850662,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Finally more good news for $shop","listText":"Finally more good news for $shop","text":"Finally more good news for $shop","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/163342379","repostId":"2143792667","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1415,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":163346368,"gmtCreate":1623860533054,"gmtModify":1634026851621,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sounds good","listText":"Sounds good","text":"Sounds good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/163346368","repostId":"1137784542","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1137784542","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623856057,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1137784542?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-16 23:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Buy Coinbase on the dip for a long-term opportunity on the crypto economy, Canaccord says","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1137784542","media":"cnbc","summary":"Coinbase’s price may fluctuate alongside the value of bitcoin in the short-term, but Canaccord is be","content":"
\n
Coinbase’s price may fluctuate alongside the value of bitcoin in the short-term, but Canaccord is betting on the future of blockchain technology and initiating coverage of the crypto exchange as a buy...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Bitcoin is currently trading around $39,000 following a rollercoaster month of trading after itsprice drop almost a month ago.\nCoinbase’s revenue is largely driven by trading fees, 81% of which come from retail trading and 5% from institutional trading, according to Canaccord. It has the highest trading fees across crypto exchanges, the bank found.\nStill, Canaccord said it’s confident Coinbase’s business will ultimately expand beyond retail trading and into emerging opportunities for the blockchain – which could include supporting new protocols beyond bitcoin and Ethereum, decentralized finance and cloud solutions – and that crypto exchange will be a “super on-ramp” into that new world.\nCanaccord set its one-year price target on the stock at $285, which is 12 times its 2022 enterprise value-to-sales estimate.Enterprise value-to-salesis a ratio that measures a firm’s value versus its sales revenue.\n“Market share and technology leaders that leverage their positions to drive innovation via creating new customer behaviors present some of most compelling, long-term value propositions in the market,” the bank said. “Although we will see ongoing volatility, we don’t think that comparing the longer-term potential of the blockchain and digital assets to what we have seen in ecommerce is off the mark.”\nThe analysts noted that Coinbase shares are likely to see headwinds in the short term, based on crypto spot price volatility so far in June.\n“If we are in a bitcoin holding pattern here for a while, COIN could likely see sequentially weaker financial performance,” they said.\nStill, “we remain biased to the upside on bitcoin medium term and believe that resilience and elegance in the blockchain provide a great foundation for the entirety of digital assets from here,” the analysts wrote.\nCanaccord’s analysts highlighted bitcoin’s increasingly vertical supply curve – that is, the fact that quantities are limited, regardless of how much investors are willing to pay – as well as institutional interest in digital assets, comparative valuation to other stores of value, and “importantly what we view as an inevitable U.S. ETF.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"COIN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1361,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":163362220,"gmtCreate":1623859984260,"gmtModify":1634026875724,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Tech giants cannibalising each other","listText":"Tech giants cannibalising each other","text":"Tech giants cannibalising each other","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/163362220","repostId":"2143978737","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1931,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":169130632,"gmtCreate":1623820533826,"gmtModify":1634027570637,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Very good advice","listText":"Very good advice","text":"Very good advice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/169130632","repostId":"1182315358","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1170,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160525746,"gmtCreate":1623802589085,"gmtModify":1634028032178,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I flation numbers attributed to a key few sectors fortunatey","listText":"I flation numbers attributed to a key few sectors fortunatey","text":"I flation numbers attributed to a key few sectors fortunatey","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160525746","repostId":"1187337744","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1187337744","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623770439,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1187337744?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-15 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"FOMC Preview: \"It's Like The Titanic Running At Full Speed. price may fluctuate alongside the value of bitcoin in the short-term, but Canaccord is betting on the future of blockchain technology and initiating coverage of the crypto exchange as a buy.\nThe largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange’s stock, which last traded at around $233, made itspublic debut in mid-Apriland fell sharply with the price of bitcoin in late May. Bitcoin is currently trading around $39,000 following a rollercoaster month of trading after itsprice drop almost a month ago.\nCoinbase’s revenue is largely driven by trading fees, 81% of which come from retail trading and 5% from institutional trading, according to Canaccord. ETF.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"COIN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1361,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160587912,"gmtCreate":1623802156536,"gmtModify":1634028048979,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160587912","repostId":"1150326629","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":256,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168567288,"gmtCreate":1623978959344,"gmtModify":1634024869753,"author":{"id":"3570448375173545","authorId":"3570448375173545","name":"Jg12345","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3570448375173545","authorIdStr":"3570448375173545"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Surprise surprise","listText":"Surprise surprise","text":"Surprise surprise","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/168567288","repostId":"1107055650","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1107055650","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623975076,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1107055650?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 08:11","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Gold Got Crushed After the Fed’s Big Surprise.
