Apple(NASDAQ:AAPL)finished Friday with a valuation of $2.944 trillion, so all Wall Street needs to do now is add $56 billion to the iPhone maker's stock value and Apple (AAPL) will stand alone in the $3 trillion club.
\n
To put that amount in some perspective, Apple (AAPL) became the first company to hit $1 trillion in market cap in 2018--or, 42 years after Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple (AAPL) in a garage in Cupertino, Calif. It then took Apple just until 2020 to reach $2 trillion in market cap. Right now, the only other company worth more than $2 trillion is Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT), which ended last week with a market cap of $2.57 trillion.
\n
\"The Street is starting to better appreciate the robust fundamental story into 2022 for [Apple Chief Executive] Tim Cook & Co.,\" said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, in a research note on Sunday. \"Hitting $3 trillion is another watershed moment for Apple as the company continues to prove the doubters wrong with the renaissance of growth story playing out in Cupertino.\"
\n
While Apple's (AAPL) iPhone sales continue to be the biggest source of the company's strength--iPhones accounted for almost $39 billion of Apple's $83.4 billion in fiscal fourth-quarter sales--Ives said the \"linchpin\" of Apple's (AAPL) growing valuation is its services business.
\n
Services, which include items such as sales from the App Store and subscriptions to everything from Apple TV+ to iCloud storage plans, brought in $18.3 billion in revenue in Apple's (AAPL) most-recent quarter. oil stocks are not.\nBut some oil companies are looking t","content":"
Key Points
\n
\n
Renewable-power stocks are hot; oil stocks are not.
\n
But some oil companies are looking to change with the times.
\n
One Fool is therefore betting on this oil major as a renewable-power play.
\n
\n
Renewable-power stalwart Brookfield Renewable Partners LP (NYSE: BEP)has a dividend yield of 3.2%, near the lowest levels in the partnership's history. Other prominent names in the space have even lower dividend yields. France's Total SA (NYSE: TTE)has a 7.3% yield. And while some may argue that it's an oil stock, TotalEnergies has a long history in renewable power with even bigger plans for the future. Dividend-focused investors like myself would do well to take a close look.
\n
Stating the obvious right up front, TotalEnergies has a long history behind it as one of the world's largest integrated oil majors. Moreover, its results are still tied tightly to the ups and downs of the oil and natural gas markets. But there's an important shift in the works. In fact, the change is so big that the company changed its name from just Total to TotalEnergies to highlight its clean-energy aspirations.
\n
The current goal is to grow the \"electrons\" division from 5% of the company to 15% by 2030. Before pooh-poohing that goal, step back and look at the bigger picture here. TotalEnergies is basically looking to triple the size of its clean energy business in about one decade. The company has a $110 billion market cap, so that's no small effort. For comparison, Brookfield Renewable Partners' market cap is roughly $11 billion. Put simply, TotalEnergies' plan is likely to put it among the largest players in the clean-energy space.
\n
But this isn't some bright new idea that management cooked up to appease investors. It has been working in the renewable arena for some time. For example, it bought a stake in SunPower roughly a decade ago. And it has continued to invest in the space in the years since, including some pretty sizable deals. Total is even willing to speed up its planned pace if that is what the broader world wants, based on recent comments from management. This is, perhaps, even more telling than the company's 15% target mentioned above, because it makes clear that TotalEnergies wants to change with society to be a key energy provider, in whatever form that requires.
\n
The old builds the new
\n
This is why TotalEnergies isn't simply abandoning its carbon fuels business. The world still needs and wants oil and natural gas. Even in the most aggressive clean-energy scenarios, these fuels remain important to the global energy mix for decades to come. TotalEnergies has a long and successful history in the space, so it might as well continue to participate. That said, it intends to shift toward cleaner-burning natural gas, limiting its oil investments to only its best opportunities.
\n

\n
BEP DIVIDEND YIELDDATA BYYCHARTS
\n
This, however, is important. The oil and gas business, though volatile, can be highly profitable. For example, the energy giant generated a huge $13.1 billion in cash flow in the first half of 2021. Obviously a good chunk of that is earmarked for the dividend and investment in the carbon fuels business. However, the goal is to earmark around 15% of the company's capital spending budget to clean energy between 2021 and 2025, but not less than $2 billion a year. Think back to Brookfield Renewable Power -- in five years TotalEnergies' capital spending plans will roughly approximate the size of the master limited partnership.
\n
Most of that money is going to be provided by the cash-cow carbon business. So by providing an energy source the world still needs, TotalEnergies is funding its repositioning effort. Other prominent names in the space have even lower dividend yields. France's Total SA (NYSE: TTE)has a 7.3% yield. And while some may argue that it's an oil stock, TotalEnergies has a long history in renewable power with even bigger plans for the future. Dividend-focused investors like myself would do well to take a close look.\nStating the obvious right up front, TotalEnergies has a long history behind it as one of the world's largest integrated oil majors. Moreover, its results are still tied tightly to the ups and downs of the oil and natural gas markets. But there's an important shift in the works. In fact, the change is so big that the company changed its name from just Total to TotalEnergies to highlight its clean-energy aspirations.\nThe current goal is to grow the \"electrons\" division from 5% of the company to 15% by 2030. Put simply, TotalEnergies' plan is likely to put it among the largest players in the clean-energy space.\nBut this isn't some bright new idea that management cooked up to appease investors. This is, perhaps, even more telling than the company's 15% target mentioned above, because it makes clear that TotalEnergies wants to change with society to be a key energy provider, in whatever form that requires.\nThe old builds the new\nThis is why TotalEnergies isn't simply abandoning its carbon fuels business. The world still needs and wants oil and natural gas. Even in the most aggressive clean-energy scenarios, these fuels remain important to the global energy mix for decades to come. TotalEnergies has a long and successful history in the space, so it might as well continue to participate. That said, it intends to shift toward cleaner-burning natural gas, limiting its oil investments to only its best opportunities.\n\nBEP DIVIDEND YIELDDATA BYYCHARTS\nThis, however, is important. Think back to Brookfield Renewable Power -- in five years TotalEnergies' capital spending plans will roughly approximate the size of the master limited partnership.\nMost of that money is going to be provided by the cash-cow carbon business. So by providing an energy source the world still needs, TotalEnergies is funding its repositioning effort. That sounds like a win-win to me, especially since I get to collect a huge 7% dividend along the way.\nNot pure, but definitely compelling\nIf you're looking for a focused clean-energy stock, TotalEnergies probably won't interest you. However, if you take a realistic look at the world, which is still only working toward a clean-energy transition, the oil giant looks to be positioning itself for long-term success as the energy landscape shifts. That's a business decision that still sounds rock solid to me, and I'm happy to own the stock today.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BEP":0.9,"TTE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":297,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":833087619,"gmtCreate":1629189708831,"gmtModify":1633686703317,"author":{"id":"3572943116519338","authorId":"3572943116519338","name":"yqqq","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572943116519338","authorIdStr":"3572943116519338"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like my comment please? :) thanks!!! As a result, global fundamental equity L/S hedge funds lost almost two-thirds of their YTD gains in just the past week, bringing their total YTD return to just 0.97% in what is setting up as another dismal year for the 2 and 20 crowd. What is remarkable is just how sensitive to overall market beta the hedge fund space has become, and there is a reason for that: according to Goldman Prime, overall book Gross leverage rose +1.7 pts to 247.1%, the highest on record, while Net leverage fell -0.9 pts to 88.2% (not quite an all time high, but still 87th percentile).Looking at the composition of hedge fund purchases, the overall GS Prime book was modestly net bought again in the past week(+0.15 SDs), driven by risk-on flows as long buys outpaced short sales. Specifically, single Names were net bought while Macro Products (Index and ETF combined) were net sold. North America and to a lesser extent Europe were net bought driven by long buys, while DM Asia and EM Asia were net sold driven by short sales. 8 of 11 global sectors were net bought led in $ terms by Consumer Disc, Health Care, Staples and Real Estate, while Info Tech, Materials, and Financials were net sold.Meanwhile, continuing the trend first observed last weekwhen we noted that hedge funds shorted tech sharesfor 9 of the previous 10 days, Goldman notes thatInfo Tech saw the largest net selling in nine months as managers reduced exposure for a third straight week. And in a surprise reversal to months of bullishness on IT, GS Prime points out that hedge funds are currently Underweight Info Tech stocks by -1.4% vs. the MSCI World, the lowest level since last November and in the 3rd percentile vs. the past five years. Some more details from the Goldman reports:Info Tech, the worst performing sector this week, was also by far the most net sold sector on the GS Prime book driven by short sales outpacing long buys 7 to 1.Info Tech stocks were net sold for a third straight week and saw the largest week/week $ net selling since last August (-1.6 SDs). Net trading flow diverged on a subsector level – Semis & Semi Equip, Software, and Electronic Equip were the most net sold, while Comm Equip and IT Services were the most net bought.Hedge funds are currently U/W Info Tech stocks by -1.4% vs. the MSCI World, the lowest level since last November and in the 3rd percentile vs. the past five years. From an industry group standpoint, hedge funds are still O/W Software & Svcs by +4.7% (28th percentile) and U/W Semis & Semi Equip and Tech Hardware by -1.6% (13th percentile) and -4.3% (18th percentile), respectivelyAnd while hedge funds shorted tech, the Goldman US Consumer Discretionary sector saw the largest net buying in three months driven by E-Commerce stocks.
