Financials were the best-performing S&P 500 sector with a 1.3% gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 237.02 points, or 0.7%, to 34,433.84, sitting less than 2% from its record. The Nasdaq Composite erased earlier gains and closed 0.1% lower at 14,360.39 amid a rise in bond yields. The 10-year Treasury yield jumped 4 basis points to 1.52%.\nThe S&P 500 rallied 2.7% for the week, notching its biggest weekly gain since early February. The Dow gained 3.4% this week for its best week since mid-March, while the Nasdaq advanced 2.4%.\nFriday’s rally came after a key inflation indicator that the Federal Reserve uses to set policy rose 3.4% in May, the fastest increase since the early 1990s, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The reading matched the expectation from economists polled by Dow Jones. The core index rose 0.5% for the month, which actually was below the 0.6% estimate.\nThe core personal consumption expenditures price index increase reflects the rapid pace of economic expansion and resulting price pressures, and amplified how far the nation has come since the pandemic-induced shutdown of 2020.\n“This provided support to the Fed’s argument that inflation is transitory and will help allay fears that we are witnessing runaway inflation,” said Anu Gaggar, senior global Investment analyst at Commonwealth Financial Network. “This should continue to provide support to risk assets such as equities.”\nBank shares jumped after the Federal Reserve announced the banking industry could easily withstand a severe recession. The Fed, in releasing the results of its annual stress test, said the 23 institutions in the 2021 exam remained “well above” minimum required capital levels during a hypothetical economic downturn. The decision cleared the way for the banks to raise dividends and buy back more stock, which was suspended during the pandemic.\nWells Fargo climbed 2.6%, while Fifth Third and PNC all gained over 2%. JPMorgan and Bank of America both rose more than 1%.\nNike’s stock surged 15.5%, helping to boost sentiment for the Dow. The company reported earnings and revenue that blew past Wall Street estimates. Digital sales also jumped 41% since last year and 147% from two years ago.\nOn the flipside,FedEx dipped 3.6% despite beating on the top and bottom lines of its earnings. FedEx also gave a strong yearly outlook.\nFriday saw heightened trading volume as FTSE Russell was set to rebalance its U.S. stock indexes at the market close. Bank of America estimated that more than $170 billion worth of shares would be changed hands as a result of 625 changes in total to Russell indexes, including the Russell 1000 and Russell 2000.\nPresident Joe Biden announced Thursday that the White House struck an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators. The lawmakers have worked for weeks to craft a roughly $1 trillion package that could get through Congress with support from both parties. The framework will include $579 billion in new spending on transportation like roads, bridges and rail, electric vehicle infrastructure and electric transit, among other things.\nThe stock market came back from last week’s swoon induced by worries about a tighter Federal Reserve. Last week, the Dow fell 3.5% and the S&P 500 shed 1.9% as the Fed moved up its timeline for interest-rate increases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":895,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":125211713,"gmtCreate":1624674713132,"gmtModify":1631891388769,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow.. will it shot up to 800?","listText":"Wow.. will it shot up to 800?","text":"Wow.. will it shot up to 800?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/125211713","repostId":"1100072036","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1039,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166054766,"gmtCreate":1623986296355,"gmtModify":1631883986826,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Shopify vs Amazon. Bitcoin is currently trading around $39,000 following a rollercoaster month of trading after itsprice drop almost a month ago.\nCoinbase’s revenue is largely driven by trading fees, 81% of which come from retail trading and 5% from institutional trading, according to Canaccord. It has the highest trading fees across crypto exchanges, the bank found.\nStill, Canaccord said it’s confident Coinbase’s business will ultimately expand beyond retail trading and into emerging opportunities for the blockchain – which could include supporting new protocols beyond bitcoin and Ethereum, decentralized finance and cloud solutions – and that crypto exchange will be a “super on-ramp” into that new world.\nCanaccord set its one-year price target on the stock at $285, which is 12 times its 2022 enterprise value-to-sales estimate.Enterprise value-to-salesis a ratio that measures a firm’s value versus its sales revenue.\n“Market share and technology leaders that leverage their positions to drive innovation via creating new customer behaviors present some of most compelling, long-term value propositions in the market,” the bank said. “Although we will see ongoing volatility, we don’t think that comparing the longer-term potential of the blockchain and digital assets to what we have seen in ecommerce is off the mark.”\nThe analysts noted that Coinbase shares are likely to see headwinds in the short term, based on crypto spot price volatility so far in June.\n“If we are in a bitcoin holding pattern here for a while, COIN could likely see sequentially weaker financial performance,” they said.\nStill, “we remain biased to the upside on bitcoin medium term and believe that resilience and elegance in the blockchain provide a great foundation for the entirety of digital assets from here,” the analysts wrote.\nCanaccord’s analysts highlighted bitcoin’s increasingly vertical supply curve – that is, the fact that quantities are limited, regardless of how much investors are willing to pay – as well as institutional interest in digital assets, comparative valuation to other stores of value, and “importantly what we view as an inevitable U.S. ETF.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":756,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160480207,"gmtCreate":1623804267709,"gmtModify":1631891388780,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Another market correction soon?","listText":"Another market correction soon?","text":"Another market correction soon?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160480207","repostId":"2143680537","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":333,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":185803743,"gmtCreate":1623639162482,"gmtModify":1631893851767,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Market Manipulation!!! Real average hourly earnings, which account for inflation, were down 2.8% in May from the previous year.\n\nEuropean stocks are set to outperform the U.S. as inflation sticks around and commodities begin a new “supercycle,” according to Livermore Partners Chief Investment Officer David Neuhauser.\nTheU.S. consumer price index on Thursday showed a 5% jump in headline inflationin May from the previous year, its sharpest increase since 2008. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also notched a 28-year high of 3.8%.\nWhilemarkets have broadly dismissedthe current red-hot inflation figures as transitory and fueled by short-term anomalous factors, Neuhauser argued that a more fundamental \"structural shift\" was taking place.\nLivermore Partners has noted that wages are not rising as much as would normally be expected alongside GDP growth rates upward of 6%. Real average hourly earnings in the U.S., which account for inflation, were down 2.8% in May from the previous year, according to theBureau of Labor Statistics.\n\"As you are seeing prices for automobiles, as prices for houses, as prices for food and energy go up, even though it looks like the economies are starting to boom, the real issue is you're not seeing wages grow as fast,\" Neuhauser told CNBC's \"Squawk Box Europe\" Friday.\n\"Thus ultimately that is going to start to pinch the consumer and as you know, the consumer is 70%-plus of the economy.\"\nIf inflation is indeed here to stay, as Livermore Partners anticipates, Neuhauser suggested this will cause troubles down the line and will cause the Federal Reserve to apply the brakes to its accommodative monetary policy.\nWage growth sluggish\nNeuhauser pointed to McDonald's and Chipotle as examples of companies that have begun to incur substantial and rising input costs while struggling to attract workers in the wake of the pandemic, leading them to offer bonuses and focus on wage growth.\n\"That is ultimately going to increase the price of their goods and services which will of course increase the prices to consumers,\" he added.\nThis could cause problems if these trends combine with the potential tapering of the Fed's unprecedented bond-buying program, Neuhauser suggested.\n“That is going to have the potential at least to start to rerate markets, which look extremely frothy. Ultimately, that is what you have to focus on as an investor,” he said.\n“You have to look at the numbers and you can push them off to the side, but you can’t do that if you start to see more consistent hotter numbers running forward.”\nCommodities ‘supercycle’\nNeuhauser’s fund is now largely focused on commodities, banks and industrials, as he believes commodities are in the start of a new “supercycle” — a decades-long period in which commodity prices remain above long-term trends.\n“We have seen (fewer) mines being built, we have seen oil and gas see capex (capital expenditure) being pulled away as banks aren’t lending anymore, you are seeing ESG initiatives make front and center stage when it comes to board meetings,” he said.\n“I think there has been this structural shift where you have not seen capital, capital has been starved to the complex and ultimately you have a dollar that is looking to potentially fall apart.”\nThis shift means commodities are the place to be for investors over the next three to five years, he argued.\n“We are playing that in terms of some of the smaller cap free cash flow or cash flow businesses out there,” he said.\n“A lot of it is in Europe and a lot of it is international, so I think Europe is going to outperform the U.S. as we go forward and that is where most of our capital is actually at Livermore, in a lot of these European stocks tied to mining.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":446,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":117603692,"gmtCreate":1623134310916,"gmtModify":1631893851779,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice. I ","content":"
Apple is hosting its annualWorldwide Developers Conferencevirtually for the second year in a row. I tuned in from home for the Monday keynote, where company execs outlined a slew of new updates for Apple devices due this fall via iOS 15, iPadOS 15, WatchOS 8 and MacOS Monterey.

The most exciting announcements are aimed directly at improving our experiences at home, where much of our work and play will continue even after the pandemic. FaceTime will get Zoom-like talents, plus the ability to share videos and music with other video-chat participants. And there are more iOS and watch features designed to increase focus and reduce stress.

The event is where Apple historically has expandedits walled garden, by announcing capabilities that will keep customers within its tightly locked hardware-software ecosystem. Sure enough, to get the most out of the newest Mac features, you will need an iPad, an iPhone and maybe even a second Mac. However, the company countered that narrative with a few other announcements: FaceTime now works in web browsers, so you can start up a video chat with people on Windows and Android devices, too. And Siri can be spoken to via other manufacturers’ HomeKit devices (though you will still need to own a HomePod).

In any case, the event is a reminder that Apple’s garden can be a pretty nice one. Many changes, available by way of a free software update in the fall, ought to add functionality to aging devices, including the six-year-old iPhone 6S. Some, of course, are reserved for only the newest Apple products. Here’s a breakdown of the most interesting announcements.

Chat and Productivity

FaceTime, Apple’s video chat app, is getting features already popular in competitors: blurred backgrounds, grid view for group calls, background-noise reduction, screen sharing and meeting links. The new functionality is available on both iOS and Mac devices. And, for the first time, Android and Windows users can join a FaceTime call via a Chrome or Edge web browser.

When there are multiple people on screen, the audio will sound like it is coming from the direction of the person who is speaking on screen. That feature—along with the Portrait Mode blurred background—is available only on iOS devices with A12 Bionic chips or newer, and 2018 Macs or newer.

In addition to sharing what is on your screen in FaceTime, you also can watch a video or listen to audio together. For now, supported apps include Disney+, TikTok and Hulu. Notably missing: Netflix.

Content shared in Messages will now show up in relevant apps. For example, if someone texts you photos, the images will be grouped in a new “Shared With You” tab in your Photos app. But images the app detects as memes or screenshots will be left out.

On the iPad, you still can manage two apps at the same time using Split View and Slide Over (as well as the single-app Full Screen). But instead of having to remember how to make that happen, a new pop-up menu will let you quickly switch between the setups. And a bottom “Shelf” lets you move between different windows in supported apps such as Safari and Pages.

For those with both an iPad and Mac, you can use your Mac’s mouse, trackpad and keyboard to control what is on your iPad, and even drag and drop files between them.

Safari gets a new feature that might convert you from Chrome or another browser: Tab groups, which can be easily accessed from Safari on any of your devices, let you store clusters of related websites.

The most productivity-boosting feature may involve extending your Mac’s battery life. That’s right, “low power mode,” found in iPhones, will be available in MacOS Monterey.

Focus and Mindfulness

The Away message is back, in the Messages app. When you turn on Do Not Disturb, Messages contacts will be able to see you have gone dark in their in-app conversations with you.

Notifications are getting smarter. You will be able to set up different focus modes, such as “Personal” or “Work,” which allow notifications from specific sets of apps and people for a custom duration (or even location). When you turn on a focus mode on one device, it will apply to all your other compatible Apple devices, too. In theory, it is designed to limit distractions—but it will likely take some tinkering to ensure that urgent calls from VIPs still come through.

If you want to be less bogged down by notifications, you can set all non-time-sensitive pop-ups to be bundled into a daily delivery.

AirPod Pro Improvements

My personal favorite announcement from today? Find My AirPods is finally useful—as long as you have Apple’s pricier buds. If you have AirPods Pro or Max, you can soon ping your earbuds—even if they are closed in their case. (Previously, this only worked if the buds were out of their case.) A new separation alert will also send you a notification if you leave the ’Pods behind in an unfamiliar location.

Conversation Boost is a capability designed for people with mild hearing loss. It focuses the AirPods’ audio on the person talking in front of you, and has controls to further reduce ambient noise.

The headphones also can be located through the global Apple Find My network, and their surround-sound audio mode, called Spatial Audio, which was formerly only compatible with recent iPhones and iPads, also will be available on Macs with the M1 chip.

On-device artificial intelligence

On-device artificial intelligence has many benefits over systems that depend on cloud processing. It is faster and more secure since, for instance, your voice commands don’t have to travel to company servers to be interpreted.

In its keynote, Apple showed off some Siri requests, such as setting a timer or switching to dark mode, that can work without an internet connection. Systemwide translation of text in languages such as Mandarin, Spanish and French, and Live Text—which can recognize text and numbers in photos or even live via the camera—also work on the device. They do require devices with the A12 Bionic chip or a newer processor, however.

Family-Wide Health

The Health app is where you will find data such as daily steps, heart rate and sleep. The coming version will allow you to share that data with others in your family. The thinking is that you can monitor an aging parents’ stats, and let them know if you are concerned, for example, about an increase in resting heart rate.

More Privacy Protections

Built-in privacy features have long been a part of Apple devices. But, for the first time, the company is including new privacy capabilities as part of its paid iCloud storage plans—now called iCloud+. Private Relay will act like a virtual private network, or VPN, by encrypting all your website traffic. The user is assigned an anonymous IP address, and the address of the destination website is encrypted. Apple says it doesn’t even know which site you are visiting.

The company also announced features that don’t require a subscription. Your driver’s license can be encrypted and stored in the Wallet app. The Transportation Security Administration is even working on using the digital IDs for security screening. However, it will initially only be available for license holders in select U.S. states.

The new version of the Mail app will block invisible pixels that collect information when you open an email. And a new settings page, called the App Privacy Report, shows how frequently apps use data such as location, access to the device’s microphone or contacts. It also will provide potentially creepy extras, such as all of the third-party domains your apps interact with.

As usual, Apple has targeted this massive software drop for the fall, which we expect to mean the September/October time frame when new iPhones traditionally arrive. The company didn’t announce any new hardware Monday, and we aren’t expecting much until the fall, when these new features—especially the ones that only work with the latest and greatest Apple gear—will drive up the temptation to upgrade.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The Big Changes Coming to Your iPhone, iPad and Mac This Fall
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Big Changes Coming to Your iPhone, iPad and Mac This Fall\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-08 11:22 GMT+8 wsj\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Apple is hosting its annualWorldwide Developers Conferencevirtually for the second year in a row. The company didn’t announce any new hardware Monday, and we aren’t expecting much until the fall, when these new features—especially the ones that only work with the latest and greatest Apple gear—will drive up the temptation to upgrade.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":366,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":115708560,"gmtCreate":1623029416450,"gmtModify":1631893851782,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"IPO is normally overpriced?","listText":"IPO is normally overpriced?","text":"IPO is normally overpriced?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/115708560","repostId":"2141284528","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":477,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":116909699,"gmtCreate":1622768234611,"gmtModify":1631893851784,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good. Ultimately, that is what you have to focus on as an investor,” he said.\n“You have to look at the numbers and you can push them off to the side, but you can’t do that if you start to see more consistent hotter numbers running forward.”\nCommodities ‘supercycle’\nNeuhauser’s fund is now largely focused on commodities, banks and industrials, as he believes commodities are in the start of a new “supercycle” — a decades-long period in which commodity prices remain above long-term trends.\n“We have seen (fewer) mines being built, we have seen oil and gas see capex (capital expenditure) being pulled away as banks aren’t lending anymore, you are seeing ESG initiatives make front and center stage when it comes to board meetings,” he said.\n“I think there has been this structural shift where you have not seen capital, capital has been starved to the complex and ultimately you have a dollar that is looking to potentially fall apart.”\nThis shift means commodities are the place to be for investors over the next three to five years, he argued.\n“We are playing that in terms of some of the smaller cap free cash flow or cash flow businesses out there,” he said.\n“A lot of it is in Europe and a lot of it is international, so I think Europe is going to outperform the U.S. as we go forward and that is where most of our capital is actually at Livermore, in a lot of these European stocks tied to mining.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":446,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":116909699,"gmtCreate":1622768234611,"gmtModify":1631893851784,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good. ETF.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":756,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":182125372,"gmtCreate":1623558835196,"gmtModify":1631893851773,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment","listText":"Comment","text":"Comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/182125372","repostId":"2142204074","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":176,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":378164818,"gmtCreate":1619011985234,"gmtModify":1634289244555,"author":{"id":"3574155313954123","authorId":"3574155313954123","name":"Pokeyz","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574155313954123","authorIdStr":"3574155313954123"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Looking gd","listText":"Looking gd","text":"Looking gd","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/378164818","repostId":"1148947471","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1148947471","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619011424,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1148947471?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-21 21:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Apple Stock Overvalued? The Apple Maven looks at three key ratios to determine if shares might be overstretched.
\n
In a matter of less than six weeks, Apple stock climbed from a 2021 low of about $116 per share to nearly $135. A similar spike of at least 15% within the same short period happened last in January, ahead of fiscal first quarter earnings, when Apple reached its all-time high of $143 apiece.
\n
But since getting to that early 2021 peak, Apple stock corrected as much as 19%, and remains underwater today. Therefore, the recent rally must have Apple investors wondering if the stock might have rushed too fast and too far from the business fundamentals.
\n
Apple stock: a look at relative valuation
\n
One way to address this concern is to look at relative valuations. These are ratios that link stock price (numerator) with certain financial metrics, including earnings and cash flow (denominator). The higher the valuation multiple, the more investors are willing to pay for a company’s fundamentals.
\n
Today, I look at three popular relative valuation metrics on Apple stock:
\n
\n
Price-to-earnings: probably the most well-known of them, P/E compares the price of a share of equity to the company’s net earnings per share. Here, I use the trailing metric based on historical earnings figures.
\n
Price-to-book: this is another multiple that focuses on equity value. P/B is the ratio between the market price and the book value of the stockholder’s ownership in the company.
\n
Enterprise value-to-earnings before interest and taxes: this is a total firm, rather than an equity-only, valuation multiple. EV/EBIT measures the market value of debt and equity combined, relative to the company’s pre-tax and pre-interest income.
\n
\n
Figure 1: AAPL's historical valuation multiples.
\n
The graph above depicts the three different valuation metrics described, but generally tells the same story. At least over the past three years, likely much longer, Apple stock has been trading at sky-high multiples this year, even if they seem to have moderated a bit since September 2020.
\n
The P/E ratio has passed the test that I proposed in late February: the multiple seems to have found a floor of 33 times, below which it has not stayed for long since around August 2020. The bad news is that Apple stock has consistently failed to sustain a P/E of more than 38 times, and the multiple seems range-bound for now.
\n
The P/B ratio catches my attention for having climbed very sharply since 2018: from a low of only 5 times to a whopping 34 times now. At play here are not only factors like higher growth expectations and lower interest rates, which impact most valuation multiples, but also the fact that Apple has been retiring equity aggressively. The fewer shares outstanding, the higher P/B tends to be.
\n
The Apple Maven’s take
\n
The data seems clear: Apple’s key valuation multiples look stretched, certainly relative to their own history. The harder question to answer is: are the ratios overdue for a pullback?
\n
Higher valuation multiples can reflect a number of assumptions, including: higher growth expectations, lower interest rates, a perception of decreased risk of ownership, among others. I believe that Apple stock probably deserves to be valued more richly now than, say, three or five years ago.
\n
At the same time, I think that Apple’s rich multiples could find upside resistance from here. Should Apple stock price rise, which it very well may, it will likely be the result of growth in financial metrics (sales, earnings, cash flow) rather than valuation expansion.
\n
Is the price right?
\n
Looking at a company’s business fundamentals is only half the work needed to find a good stock. How much one pays to own the shares is a key factor in the success of any investment. This is why valuation analysis is so important.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is Apple Stock Overvalued?
