of 13% y/y indicates that revenue growth may even pick up slightly.
\n
The company also delivered significant margin expansion and expects to hit the \"Rule of 40\" on a free cash flow basis by FY24.
\n
Box is still a very cheap stock at <4x forward revenue.
\n
\n
Noam Galai/Getty Images Entertainment
\n
So far, the year 2021 has been a promising one for Box(NYSE:BOX). The file storage and sharing service, one of the earlier SaaS companies to go public and gain a reputation for \"growth at all costs,\" has seen a 40% jump in its stock price year to date, more than doubling that of the S&P 500 - though that hardly makes up for Box's years of disappointing returns. This is the year, however, that investors have seemed to favor positioning themselves defensively with value stocks over growth, even with the market counting to sit at all-time highs.
\n
A slight crack in this positive rebound showed after Box reported Q2 results, which resulted in a ~5% dip despite strong top and bottom-line results. In my view, the dip is a strong buying opportunity in a company that has repeatedly shown its capacity to scale profitably and to retain growth in a software category that is often described as overly competitive.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
My main investing strategy over the past year has been to find stocks that I feel comfortable buying at all-time market tops. The basic question here is: \"what stock will be relatively immune to, say, a ~20% market correction, by gist of the fact that it's already currently cheap to begin with?\" Box has always retained a strong value element, and today, with strong forward-looking estimates plus a still-depressed share price, that value element has never been brighter.
\n
At current share prices near $25, Box trades at a market cap of $3.85 billion. After we net off the $829.4 million of cash and $366.5 million of debt on Box's most recent balance sheet, the company's resulting enterprise value is $3.39 billion.
\n
For the current fiscal year, Box has guided to revenue of $856-$860 million, representing 12% y/y growth. For the next fiscal year (FY22), Wall Street analysts have given a consensus revenue target of $942.5 million for Box, representing 11% y/y growth (data from Yahoo Finance). This puts Box's valuation multiples at an ultra-modest multiple of:
\n
\n
4.0x EV/FY21 revenue
\n
3.6x EV/FY22 revenue
\n
\n
Recall as well that Box has maintained its goal of hitting a \"Rule of 40\" profile by FY24, which it defines as revenue growth plus free cash flow margin (the latter standing in for how most companies calculate the Rule of 40, with pro forma operating margin instead of FCF).
\n
Figure 1. Box Rule of 40
\n
Source: BoxQ2 investor presentation
\n
Let's tease that out quickly. If Box hits 11% y/y growth in the two years after FY22, then its revenue in that year would be $1.16 billion. The lower point of its guidance would suggest a 29% FCF margin (though it really expects to be at 40%+ growth plus FCF margin in that year), which would imply $336.4 million in FCF. Its current valuation, then, stands at a ~10x multiple of future cash flow (an even lower multiple would result if Box outperforms the lower end of its Rule of 40 guidance).
\n
Aside from the free cash flow opportunity, here are the other reasons to be bullish on Box, as a refresher:
\n
\n
Nearly pure recurring revenue business that has shown resilience during macroeconomic shocks.Even amid the pandemic, Box has managed to retain its low double-digit/high single-digit revenue growth rates. Revenue growth in Q2 accelerated over Q1, showing sustained momentum.
\n
Enterprise orientation.Of all of its well-known competitors, Box is the only company that is enterprise-focused. The company touts its security features plus advanced capabilities like Box Skills as key distinguishers versus the likes of Dropbox.
\n
Box's product portfolio expansion has led to a $55 billion market.Despite competition, Box cites a massive $55 billion market across storage, content collaboration, and data security. That's a big enough space for multiple incumbents, and also suggests Box is only currently ~2% penetrated into this overall market. Recent portfolio additions like Box Sign have greatly expanded Box's potential.
\n
\n
Stay long here and use the dip as a buying opportunity.
\n
Q2 download
\n
Let's now cover Box's latest second-quarter results in greater detail. There were no major red flags to be found, in my mind, that warrants Box's ~5% drop.
\n
Starting with revenue: Box saw its revenue growth accelerate two points in the quarter, growing 12% y/y to $214.5 million, edging out over Wall Street's $213.0 million (+11% y/y) expectations. We note as well that this is Box's strongest quarter for revenue growth over the past five.
\n
Figure 2. Box revenue growth trends
\n
Source: Box Q2 investor presentation
\n
Box has also shown strong billings trends. Recall that in Q1, the company saw 24% y/y growth in billings, but against a very easy pandemic comp that saw deal signings materially slow down upon the immediate start of lockdowns. Yet billings were also strong in Q2 at 13% y/y growth, indicating that revenue growth may accelerate beyond 12% y/y growth in the near future. Note that Box's long-term operating plan calls for revenue growth between 12-16% y/y (so our expectations of 11% y/y are more on the conservative side). Box's deferred revenue is also up 16% y/y, indicating a strong \"pipeline\" of deals billed that are waiting to be recognized as revenue.
\n
Figure 3. Box billings trends
\n
Source: Box Q2 investor presentation
\n
The company has noted that the rollout of the Box Sign product, Box's answer to the likes of DocuSign, has been a successful one. Here's some useful anecdotal commentary from founder and CEO Aaron Levie on the most recent Q2 earnings call detailing Box Sign traction and other go-to-market strengths:
\n
\n Initial response from customers has been very positive and we're rolling out Box Sign to all business and enterprise customers throughout this fall with a significant roadmap of innovation ahead [...]\n
\n
\n Building on the success of suites, in late July, we also announced a new simplified product addition for our enterprise customers called Enterprise Plus, which includes shield governance, relay, platform, Box Sign, the ability for large file uploads and enhanced support and consulting credits. You can see the success of our go-to-market efforts most clearly when looking at our Q2 customer expansion. For instance, one of the largest banks in the world purchases seven figure deal with multiple products, including key safe governance, relay shield and platform to support new use cases for Box, including claims processing and loan origination and a more secure virtual environment.\"\n
\n
To Levie's last point, multi-product customers have become a defining feature of Box's growth strategy. 73% of Box's >$100k deals are now \"Box Suite\" deals, with custom pricing for a basket of Box services. Two years ago, when Box was still rolling out Suites, this rate stood closer to 10%.
\n
The trend toward more products per customer has helped bring up Box's net revenue retention rates as well, which you can see in the chart below has improved to 106%, from the low 100% range during the pandemic:
\n
Figure 4. Box net retention rates
\n
Source: Box Q2 investor presentation
\n
Box also managed to retain these strong top-line trends while delivering substantial profitability performance. The company's gross margins improved 100bps to 74.5%, while pro forma operating expenses fell 4% as a percentage of revenue, driven by a two-point reduction each in sales and marketing and R&D expenses:
\n
Figure 5. The file storage and sharing service, one of the earlier SaaS companies to go public and gain a reputation for \"growth at all costs,\" has seen a 40% jump in its stock price year to date, more than doubling that of the S&P 500 - though that hardly makes up for Box's years of disappointing returns. This is the year, however, that investors have seemed to favor positioning themselves defensively with value stocks over growth, even with the market counting to sit at all-time highs.\nA slight crack in this positive rebound showed after Box reported Q2 results, which resulted in a ~5% dip despite strong top and bottom-line results. In my view, the dip is a strong buying opportunity in a company that has repeatedly shown its capacity to scale profitably and to retain growth in a software category that is often described as overly competitive.\nData by YCharts\nMy main investing strategy over the past year has been to find stocks that I feel comfortable buying at all-time market tops. The basic question here is: \"what stock will be relatively immune to, say, a ~20% market correction, by gist of the fact that it's already currently cheap to begin with?\" Box has always retained a strong value element, and today, with strong forward-looking estimates plus a still-depressed share price, that value element has never been brighter.\nAt current share prices near $25, Box trades at a market cap of $3.85 billion. After we net off the $829.4 million of cash and $366.5 million of debt on Box's most recent balance sheet, the company's resulting enterprise value is $3.39 billion.\nFor the current fiscal year, Box has guided to revenue of $856-$860 million, representing 12% y/y growth. For the next fiscal year (FY22), Wall Street analysts have given a consensus revenue target of $942.5 million for Box, representing 11% y/y growth (data from Yahoo Finance). This puts Box's valuation multiples at an ultra-modest multiple of:\n\n4.0x EV/FY21 revenue\n3.6x EV/FY22 revenue\n\nRecall as well that Box has maintained its goal of hitting a \"Rule of 40\" profile by FY24, which it defines as revenue growth plus free cash flow margin (the latter standing in for how most companies calculate the Rule of 40, with pro forma operating margin instead of FCF).\nFigure 1. Box Rule of 40\nSource: BoxQ2 investor presentation\nLet's tease that out quickly. Its current valuation, then, stands at a ~10x multiple of future cash flow (an even lower multiple would result if Box outperforms the lower end of its Rule of 40 guidance).\nAside from the free cash flow opportunity, here are the other reasons to be bullish on Box, as a refresher:\n\nNearly pure recurring revenue business that has shown resilience during macroeconomic shocks.Even amid the pandemic, Box has managed to retain its low double-digit/high single-digit revenue growth rates. Revenue growth in Q2 accelerated over Q1, showing sustained momentum.\nEnterprise orientation.Of all of its well-known competitors, Box is the only company that is enterprise-focused. The company touts its security features plus advanced capabilities like Box Skills as key distinguishers versus the likes of Dropbox.\nBox's product portfolio expansion has led to a $55 billion market.Despite competition, Box cites a massive $55 billion market across storage, content collaboration, and data security. That's a big enough space for multiple incumbents, and also suggests Box is only currently ~2% penetrated into this overall market. Recent portfolio additions like Box Sign have greatly expanded Box's potential.\n\nStay long here and use the dip as a buying opportunity.\nQ2 download\nLet's now cover Box's latest second-quarter results in greater detail. There were no major red flags to be found, in my mind, that warrants Box's ~5% drop.\nStarting with revenue: Box saw its revenue growth accelerate two points in the quarter, growing 12% y/y to $214.5 million, edging out over Wall Street's $213.0 million (+11% y/y) expectations. We note as well that this is Box's strongest quarter for revenue growth over the past five.\nFigure 2. Box revenue growth trends\nSource: Box Q2 investor presentation\nBox has also shown strong billings trends. Box's deferred revenue is also up 16% y/y, indicating a strong \"pipeline\" of deals billed that are waiting to be recognized as revenue.\nFigure 3. Box billings trends\nSource: Box Q2 investor presentation\nThe company has noted that the rollout of the Box Sign product, Box's answer to the likes of DocuSign, has been a successful one. Here's some useful anecdotal commentary from founder and CEO Aaron Levie on the most recent Q2 earnings call detailing Box Sign traction and other go-to-market strengths:\n\n Initial response from customers has been very positive and we're rolling out Box Sign to all business and enterprise customers throughout this fall with a significant roadmap of innovation ahead [...]\n\n\n Building on the success of suites, in late July, we also announced a new simplified product addition for our enterprise customers called Enterprise Plus, which includes shield governance, relay, platform, Box Sign, the ability for large file uploads and enhanced support and consulting credits. You can see the success of our go-to-market efforts most clearly when looking at our Q2 customer expansion. For instance, one of the largest banks in the world purchases seven figure deal with multiple products, including key safe governance, relay shield and platform to support new use cases for Box, including claims processing and loan origination and a more secure virtual environment.\"\n\nTo Levie's last point, multi-product customers have become a defining feature of Box's growth strategy. 73% of Box's >$100k deals are now \"Box Suite\" deals, with custom pricing for a basket of Box services. Two years ago, when Box was still rolling out Suites, this rate stood closer to 10%.\nThe trend toward more products per customer has helped bring up Box's net revenue retention rates as well, which you can see in the chart below has improved to 106%, from the low 100% range during the pandemic:\nFigure 4. Box net retention rates\nSource: Box Q2 investor presentation\nBox also managed to retain these strong top-line trends while delivering substantial profitability performance. The company's gross margins improved 100bps to 74.5%, while pro forma operating expenses fell 4% as a percentage of revenue, driven by a two-point reduction each in sales and marketing and R&D expenses:\nFigure 5. Box gross margin trends\nSource: Box Q2 investor presentation\nThe company also delivered $29.8 million of free cash flow in the quarter, up more than 2x y/y. Year to date, Box's free cash flow of $105.7 million has also doubled y/y and is at a 25% FCF margin.\nKey takeaways\nBox falls into a category of stocks that I would consider \"guilt free.\" I don't need to feel anxious about buying this stock at market highs because I know its ultra-low valuation shields it from much further downside. On top of consistent low-teens growth, free cash flow expansion and ambitious long-term targets for continued FCF conversion, I'm staying long here.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":591,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":810453064,"gmtCreate":1629995104858,"gmtModify":1704954399260,"author":{"id":"3574925827192931","authorId":"3574925827192931","name":"JoshyQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574925827192931","authorIdStr":"3574925827192931"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/810453064","repostId":"1139424376","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":567,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":837450773,"gmtCreate":1629907085792,"gmtModify":1633681542407,"author":{"id":"3574925827192931","authorId":"3574925827192931","name":"JoshyQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574925827192931","authorIdStr":"3574925827192931"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow ! So when we looked at Norfolk Southern and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
\n
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
\n
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.
\n
But the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.
\n
August actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.
\n
This July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.
\n
August’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”
\n
Not surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.
\n
Past isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. In the process, it provided a valuable lesson to all those who got in on the IPO: Buy low and sell high.
\n
The company evidently fulfilled the latter imperative, selling its shares high, even though they were priced at the low end of the expected $38-$42 range. Their price sank 8.4% on their first day of trading, although they recouped a bit on Friday. By week’s end, buyers of Robinhood’s IPO who held were down 7.5%.
\n
Among those who sold high were the company’s co-founders, CEO Vladimir Tenev and Chief Creative Officer Baiju Bhatt, who each offloaded 1.25 million shares in the IPO. As my illustrious predecessor, Alan Abelson, liked to observe, there are many good reasons to sell a stock, but expecting it to go up isn’t one of them. That has never been more true, given the ability of rich owners to monetize their assets by borrowing against them cheaply, and without incurring capital-gains taxes.
\n
To be sure, Tenev and Bhatt still have significant stakes in Robinhood. Asour colleague Avi Salzman reported, these were worth $2.5 billion at the initial offering price, and Tenev and Bhatt retain voting control. The two also could receive awards of shares worth as much as $6.7 billion for Tenev and $4 billion for Bhatt, if the stock hits $300, or nearly the proverbial ten-bagger from here.
\n
But in a blow against income inequality, the potential billionaire pair took symbolic pay cuts, to $34,248, the average annual wage of American workers. As the comedian Yakov Smirnoff likes to say, “What a country!”
\n
How those workers are faring will be a subject of the monthly employment report slated for release this coming Friday.
\n
Economists’ forecasts for nonfarm payrolls center around a gain of 900,000. Jefferies economists Aneta Markowska and Thomas Simons estimate that the increase could top the long-anticipated one million mark; they forecast 1.2 million.
\n
Markowska and Simons think the expiration of supplemental unemployment benefits in some states will boost the labor supply, although that is a matter of significant debate. (For more on the jobs market, seethis week’s cover story.)
\n

","source":"lsy1610680873436","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Investors, Beware! No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.\nBut the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.\nAugust actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.\nThis July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.\nAugust’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”\nNot surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.\nPast isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. In the process, it provided a valuable lesson to all those who got in on the IPO: Buy low and sell high.\nThe company evidently fulfilled the latter imperative, selling its shares high, even though they were priced at the low end of the expected $38-$42 range. Their price sank 8.4% on their first day of trading, although they recouped a bit on Friday. By week’s end, buyers of Robinhood’s IPO who held were down 7.5%.\nAmong those who sold high were the company’s co-founders, CEO Vladimir Tenev and Chief Creative Officer Baiju Bhatt, who each offloaded 1.25 million shares in the IPO. As my illustrious predecessor, Alan Abelson, liked to observe, there are many good reasons to sell a stock, but expecting it to go up isn’t one of them. That has never been more true, given the ability of rich owners to monetize their assets by borrowing against them cheaply, and without incurring capital-gains taxes.\nTo be sure, Tenev and Bhatt still have significant stakes in Robinhood. Asour colleague Avi Salzman reported, these were worth $2.5 billion at the initial offering price, and Tenev and Bhatt retain voting control. The two also could receive awards of shares worth as much as $6.7 billion for Tenev and $4 billion for Bhatt, if the stock hits $300, or nearly the proverbial ten-bagger from here.\nBut in a blow against income inequality, the potential billionaire pair took symbolic pay cuts, to $34,248, the average annual wage of American workers. As the comedian Yakov Smirnoff likes to say, “What a country!”\nHow those workers are faring will be a subject of the monthly employment report slated for release this coming Friday.\nEconomists’ forecasts for nonfarm payrolls center around a gain of 900,000. Jefferies economists Aneta Markowska and Thomas Simons estimate that the increase could top the long-anticipated one million mark; they forecast 1.2 million.\nMarkowska and Simons think the expiration of supplemental unemployment benefits in some states will boost the labor supply, although that is a matter of significant debate. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance. On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago, raising $587 million. The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this. The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far. Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":162,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":184570169,"gmtCreate":1623720103451,"gmtModify":1634029630211,"author":{"id":"3574925827192931","authorId":"3574925827192931","name":"JoshyQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574925827192931","authorIdStr":"3574925827192931"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like n comment","listText":"Like n comment","text":"Like n comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/184570169","repostId":"2143178756","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":182,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":183112992,"gmtCreate":1623314317416,"gmtModify":1634034676110,"author":{"id":"3574925827192931","authorId":"3574925827192931","name":"JoshyQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574925827192931","authorIdStr":"3574925827192931"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment pls","listText":"Like and comment pls","text":"Like and comment pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/183112992","repostId":"1145842573","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1145842573","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623313677,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1145842573?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-10 16:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Weak consumption is a 'major problem' for China's recovery, says analytics firm","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1145842573","media":"cnbc","summary":"Data released Wednesday showed a record gap between the speed at which producer prices and consumer prices are rising.\"The major problem has been that the consumer's not all the way back,\" says Leland Miller, CEO of China Beige Book, a U.S.-based independent data and analytics firm.Persistent weakness in Chinese consumption will prevent businesses from charging higher prices — even as production costs keep rising, says Leland Miller of China Beige Book International, a U.S.-based independent dat","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nData released Wednesday showed a record gap between the speed at which producer prices and consumer prices are rising.\n\"The major problem has been that the consumer's not all the way back,...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; As it nears the top of this range, a volatile move is likely to follow: Either it will break out to new all-time highs, which would certainly engender some strong follow-through buying, or it will fail at the top of the trading range and move lower to test the bottom of the range once again.
\n
Either move is likely to be swift.
\n
Let’s review the indicators, and then we can judge what strategy to apply to this theory.
\n
As noted, the S&PSPX,+0.12%has resistance at 4238 (the all-time highs) and doubly-tested support at 4060. Below there, another support level exists at 4000, and then the support of last resort is at 3870.
\n
A breakdown below 3870 would change things dramatically – turning the SPX decidedly bearish and most likely saying that we had entered a bear market. But that is far from current levels. In addition, the McMillan Volatility Band (MVB) sell signal is still in effect. Its target is the -4σ “modified Bollinger Band,” which is currently at 4020 and moving sideways.
\n
Equity-only put-call ratios remain on sell signals, although heavy call buying seems to have begun again as SPX has approached its all-time highs. As long as these ratios are rising, the sell signals will remain in place. The computer programs that we use to analyze these charts agree that these ratios are still on sell signals.
\n
LAWRENCE MCMILLAN
\n
Breadth has been jumping back and forth. There were breadth buy signals issued in mid-May, but breadth was not as strong during the rally as one might have hoped for. As it nears the top of this range, a volatile move is likely to follow: Either it will break out to new all-time highs, which would certainly engender some strong follow-through buying, or it will fail at the top of the trading range and move lower to test the bottom of the range once again.\nEither move is likely to be swift.\nLet’s review the indicators, and then we can judge what strategy to apply to this theory.\nAs noted, the S&PSPX,+0.12%has resistance at 4238 (the all-time highs) and doubly-tested support at 4060. Below there, another support level exists at 4000, and then the support of last resort is at 3870.\nA breakdown below 3870 would change things dramatically – turning the SPX decidedly bearish and most likely saying that we had entered a bear market. But that is far from current levels. In addition, the McMillan Volatility Band (MVB) sell signal is still in effect. Its target is the -4σ “modified Bollinger Band,” which is currently at 4020 and moving sideways.\nEquity-only put-call ratios remain on sell signals, although heavy call buying seems to have begun again as SPX has approached its all-time highs. As long as these ratios are rising, the sell signals will remain in place. The computer programs that we use to analyze these charts agree that these ratios are still on sell signals.\nLAWRENCE MCMILLAN\nBreadth has been jumping back and forth. There were breadth buy signals issued in mid-May, but breadth was not as strong during the rally as one might have hoped for. As a result, these breadth oscillators – while still on buy signals – are susceptible to a quick reversal to sell signals if breadth should register two consecutive negative days.\nOn a more positive note, though, there has been some internal strength during this rally, and the cumulative breadth indicators are improving. In fact, cumulative volume breadth(CVB) just registered a new all-time high.\nSubscribers may recall that this is one of the few predictive things we can garner from cumulative indicators, and it portends a new all-time high in SPX will follow. The track record of this lone indicator has been very strong, in that it hasn’t been wrong in the 21 years we’ve tracked it (to be fair, there were no signals between the one in the year 2000 and the next one in 2013).\nNew 52-week highs continue to outnumber new 52-week lows. That is bullish. However, the number of new highs is no longer expanding as it once was. Regardless, this will remain a positive indicator as long as new highs outpace new lows.\nVolatility continues to be an area of analysis that is bullish in its outlook for stocks. Figuring out if the stock will go up or down, however, shouldn’t be all that difficult.
\n
The EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday,July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.
\n
There are plenty of factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings—the global semiconductor shortage, vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.
\n

\n
Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.
\n
The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.
\n
After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.
\n
There is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.
\n
Investors will also want to know when Tesla’s new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Tesla’s Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Tesla’s driver-assistance functions—the company recently started selling its driver-assistance software as a subscription—and how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its charging network to other EVs down the road.
\n
All those topics and more should come up on the earningsconference callscheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday. Year to date, Tesla stock is down roughly 9%, trailing behind comparable 17% and 15% respective gains of theS&P 500andDow Jones Industrial Average.Still, Tesla shares have had a strong run, up about 112% over the past 12 months.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Earnings Are Coming.
