bitcoin","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1156270360","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"Over the past month, the crypto market has looked like a rising tide for all coins — but data sugges","content":"
Over the past month, the crypto market has looked like a rising tide for all coins — but data suggest growth across the asset class hasn’t been equal.
\n
Last week, Bitcoin (BTC-USD) breached $50,000 for the second time in two weeks, extending a rally that put a grim sell-off that started in May further in the rear-view mirror. While notable for its volatility, gains in the the largest cryptocurrency may have gotten lost in the swell of rising prices across the entire asset class.
\n
With a majority of decentralized finance and non-fungible token (NFT) trading happening on the Ethereum (ETH-USD) blockchain, the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization rose by a third from $2,700 to $3,900, a growth rate 17 percent higher than BTC.
\n
And other blockchain-based currencies such as the third highest valued cryptocurrency, Cardano (ADA-USD) has more than doubled while a newer one, Solana (SOL-USD), has more than tripled in value over the past month. ADA and SOL have continued to notch almost daily all time highs for the past two weeks.
\n
Bitcoin IRA, an investment platform that helps retail investors gain crypto exposure in their retirement accounts, saw “record-breaking inflows” of new accounts over the previous month.
\n
“We broke our record in the first quarter right before Bitcoin ran from $45,000 to $65,000,” the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Chris Kline told Yahoo Finance. “We’re seeing the same pattern happen again. So this past month [August] felt a lot like April, but about twice as big.”
\n
The search for growth
\n
Currently, Bitcoin IRA has close to 120,000 client accounts, with approximately $2 billion in assets on the platform. Although platform's heft doesn’t move the market, the swell of retail investors opening new accounts — especially for tax-advantaged IRA accounts — is an indicator of how curious investors are as they seek more traditional ways to participate in this market.
\n
By rough approximation across all accounts, Kline said his clients hold 43% of their portfolio in bitcoin, 27% in ethereum, and the remaining 30 percent in a mix of other cryptocurrencies. The company offers 10 different cryptocurrencies in total, and is planning to more than double their crypto offerings in the fall.
\n
Back in early May when Ethereum started rising to its all-time high above $4,000, the company saw a large influx of swaps or pairing from BTC to ETH. It signaled many of his clients were shifting their portfolios from BTC to ETH.
\n
However, in recent weeks? “Not so much this time,” Kline told Yahoo Finance.
\n
To be sure, there could be a lag. “Retail buyers are looking for percentage growth. While bitcoin reigns supreme, it has relatively stable growth while there is exponential growth happening on ethereum. That’s what really gets their attention,” Kline explained.
\n
Bitcoin's August peak at $50K served as a “key technical and psychological level,” according to Will Clemente, an analyst at crypto mining and hardware broker Blockware Solutions.
\n
Clemente told Yahoo Finance that for the last seven days, bitcoin’s price has remained in what he called a “volatility squeeze.” The idea being that buyers and sellers have balanced each other out, thereby reducing the asset’s typically high volatility.
\n
But the analyst suggested that could be about to change. A volatility squeeze for bitcoin usually takes a week to two weeks to resolve.
\n
“That’s not telling you the direction, it's just telling you that there’s going to be a big move soon,” said Clemente.
\n
Analyzing price action alone remains a dominant, more contested method for predicting buyers and sellers around a cryptocurrency. But Clemente’s specialization, on-chain analysis, has quickly become a crucial tool kit of metrics for investors hoping to gleam some clarity into the nascent asset-class.
\n
Similar to technical analysis, the on-chain technique tries to forecast future moves based on supply and demand. However, it relies on a far larger quantity of data only available for assets operating on publicly available blockchains.
\n
While Clemente cannot predict the price shift of Bitcoin, he pointed to a handful of supply shock ratios, such as the movement of coin supply from speculators to long term holders and the exchange supply ratio, which shows the number of Bitcoins available to buy on exchanges relative to the overall circulating supply.
\n
Each of these metrics continue to rise higher after Bitcoin crested above $50,000, according to Clemente. Historically, supply shocks begin before the Bitcoin price moves upward.
\n
Bitcoin Illiquid Supply (RSI)
","source":"yahoofinance_sg","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
What August's record breaking month for crypto flows means for bitcoin
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhat August's record breaking month for crypto flows means for bitcoin\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-06 09:53 GMT+8 Yahoo Finance\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Over the past month, the crypto market has looked like a rising tide for all coins — but data suggest growth across the asset class hasn’t been equal.\nLast week, Bitcoin (BTC-USD) breached $50,000 for...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"GBTC":"Grayscale Bitcoin Trust"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/what-augusts-record-breaking-month-for-crypto-flows-means-for-bitcoin-163906276.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1156270360","content_text":"Over the past month, the crypto market has looked like a rising tide for all coins — but data suggest growth across the asset class hasn’t been equal.\nLast week, Bitcoin (BTC-USD) breached $50,000 for the second time in two weeks, extending a rally that put a grim sell-off that started in May further in the rear-view mirror. However, it relies on a far larger quantity of data only available for assets operating on publicly available blockchains.\nWhile Clemente cannot predict the price shift of Bitcoin, he pointed to a handful of supply shock ratios, such as the movement of coin supply from speculators to long term holders and the exchange supply ratio, which shows the number of Bitcoins available to buy on exchanges relative to the overall circulating supply.\nEach of these metrics continue to rise higher after Bitcoin crested above $50,000, according to Clemente. Historically, supply shocks begin before the Bitcoin price moves upward.\nBitcoin Illiquid Supply several books (The Warren Buffett Way, by Robert G. Hagstrom, is one that I recommend) have been written on this topic but I am going to try to cover a few points at a high level.
\n
Simple and direct
\n
“The one easy way to become worth 50 percent more than you are now — at least — is to hone your communication skills — both written and verbal… if you can’t communicate, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark — nothing happens. You can have all the brainpower in the world, but you have to be able to transmit it.”
\n
Simple and direct – I think these are the most important tenants of Buffett’s communication style. It sounds easy to emulate, but it’s really not because most often our parents, schools, colleges, and workplaces push us in the opposite direction.
\n
The importance of communication to Buffett can be seen from the significance he places on a public speaking course he took at Dale Carnegie (a workplace training and professional skills development organization) when he was younger.
\n
“I actually have the diploma in the office. And I don’t have my diploma from college, I don’t have my diploma from graduate school, but I have got my Dale Carnegie diploma there because it changed my life,”.
\n
A robust framework and the resolve to stick to it:
\n
Buffett, much like his mentor i.e., Benjamin Graham, possesses the ability to cut through the fluff and think straight.
\n
The reason why this is probably the most important lesson is that the nature of investing is such that (i) any long-term active investor will witness many periods (sometimes, years) of underperformance, and (ii) every portfolio will have its share of losers. Both apply to Buffett as well.
\n
Instead of falling prey to herd mentality and letting Mr. Market’s prevalent emotional state bias his decision making, he is able to view businesses rationally.
\n
Berkshire’s stock performance has lagged the benchmark in numerous years.
\n
However, a “sound intellectual framework” focused on company fundamentals and the discipline to stick to has meant that the good years, which saw massive outperformance, more than made up for the bad ones.
\n
Buffett has had his share of lemons too. In fact, as always, in the letter he openly admits that he made a big mistake on a $37 billion investment in Precision Castparts (PCC). He famously swore-off investing in airline stocks in the 1990s and early 2000s, referring to himself as an “air-o-holic.” This addiction seems to have reared its ugly head again, because in the throes of the pandemic Berkshire booked a loss on another set of airline stocks in 2020.
\n
Again, for every bad airline investment, Buffett has made famously huge windfalls in the likes of Coca Cola, American Express or Apple. At the end of the day, every investor will make mistakes, the key is to remain undeterred if you have a sound system in place.
\n
Remember, since 1965, Berkshire Hathaway’s shares have returned ~20% annually compared to the ~10% for the benchmark, the S&P 500. In cumulative terms, that is a staggering ~28,00,000% rise vs. ~23,500% for the S&P!
\n
Owner mindset
\n
“….That action increased your ownership in all of Berkshire’s businesses by 5.2% without requiring you to so much as touch your wallet. Following criteria Charlie and I have long recommended, we made those purchases because we believed they would both enhance the intrinsic value per share for continuing shareholders.”
\n
The quality of a company’s business is reflected in metrics like growth both in revenue and retained earnings, return on capital, among others. Of course, the price one pays in relation to these metrics is an important factor, but periodic fluctuations in price should not matter much to a fundamentals-focused investor.
\n
Buffett has often emphasized that Berkshire’s portfolio is “a collection of businesses” not just tickers on a screen.
\n
In the same vein, Buffett highlights Berkshire’s property/casualty insurance operations, BNSF and Berkshire Hathaway Energy, among many other privately owned businesses that don’t have daily stock prices. Hence, they probably don’t receive as much attention as Berkshire’s investment portfolio of “marketable stocks”.
\n
However, it is clear from the letter that Berkshire remains focused on investing behind and growing these “family jewels”.
\n
The same philosophy is behind Berkshire’s practice of regularly buying back its own stock. Just in 2020, it repurchased $25 billion worth of its shares. Buffett again chooses to focus his shareholders’ attention on the underlying effect of the action.
\n
Trust and decentralization
\n
Indian promoters are often accused of holding on to control and not delegating enough to professional managers. The Berkshire Hathaway Empire is built on the exact opposite – decentralization.
\n
Over the years as it has expanded into a giant conglomerate, Buffett has made sure that its various subsidiaries (in many of which they own 100% stake) are autonomous units with near complete decision-making powers.
\n
Buffett takes minutes to size people up and deals are often closed on an initial phone call. If Buffett has any doubt regarding sincerity or trustworthiness of a potential associate, he is known to promptly walk away.
\n
A comment by Jim Weber, head of Berkshire unit Brooks Running Company, captures this approach: “I have never been given so much autonomy in my long business career, and have never felt so accountable and responsible.”
\n
In a way, trust is at the heart of Berkshire Hathaway’s and Buffett’s business model.
\n
Circle of competence
\n
“What an investor need is the ability to correctly evaluate selected businesses. Note that word “selected”: You don’t have to be an expert on every company, or even many.
\n
You only have to be able to evaluate companies within your circle of competence. The size of that circle is not very important; knowing its boundaries, however, is vital.”
\n
Buffett’s ability to live within his circle of competence means that he is often able to make important “informed” decisions about companies and industries; being a prodigious reader helps. He is able to avoid businesses he doesn’t understand, and hence doesn’t fall prey to trend-based investing.
\n
He has pointed out how none of the top 20 companies by market cap in 1989 were in the top 20 today. He also highlighted that even in a booming industry over the last century, automobiles, there were over 2000 defunct companies.
\n
By 2009, there were just three left, of which two had been rescued from bankruptcy by the US government.
\n
“…there was a lot more to picking stocks than figuring out what’s going to be a wonderful industry in the future.”
\n
To end this piece, I want to leave you with words from the man himself that in a way capture the inspiration for starting my own investment firm:
\n
“To invest successfully over a lifetime does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insights, or inside information. What’s needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding that framework.”.
","source":"lsy1630308682275","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Happy Birthday Warren Buffett: What makes him so famous and successful
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHappy Birthday Warren Buffett: What makes him so famous and successful\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-30 15:29 GMT+8 moneycontrol\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The world’s most famous nonagenarian turns 91 today and it’s always a good time to reflect on what makes him as famous (or successful or rich) as he is – of course, several books (The Warren Buffett ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","BRK.A":"伯克希尔"},"source_url":"https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/happy-birthday-warren-buffett-what-makes-him-so-famous-and-successful-7400621.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1129827670","content_text":"The world’s most famous nonagenarian turns 91 today and it’s always a good time to reflect on what makes him as famous (or successful or rich) as he is – of course, several books (The Warren Buffett Way, by Robert G. framework.”.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":342,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":819300377,"gmtCreate":1630031187299,"gmtModify":1704954881176,"author":{"id":"3575024526885711","authorId":"3575024526885711","name":"KennyTay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/47f7bd4cbb6a8b151124c314930f9feb","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575024526885711","idStr":"3575024526885711"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Smile] The Nasdaq Composite declined 0.9%. All three finished near their lows of the day.
\n
Fed governors have been dropping hints in recent weeks that the beginning of the end of the central bank’s bond buying was nearing, and the minutes confirmed that taperingis at hand. “Most participants noted that …it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year,” the minutes read.
\n
The assessment comes as the economy has recovered quickly, and reflects that the Fed is now focused on when—and how quickly—to remove support from the economy.
\n
The selloff was broad. About 83% of S&P 500 stocks fell on the day, according to FactSet. This dynamics often reflects concern about how the market will perform without the Fed there to support it.
\n
Now, it’s just a question of when tapering will begin. It’ “is going to be September or December,” said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager and analyst at Aptus Capital Advisors. “Everyone is focusing on Jackson Hole in my opinion,” he continued, referring to the conclave of central bankers that occurs later this month in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
\n
Strangely, the bond market didn’t react all that much, with the 10-year Treasury yield closing at 1.27%, where it hovered for most of the day. The 2-year yield, which often moves higher when market participants see the Fed hiking short-term interest rates sooner, ended at 0.21%, lower than the 0.22% it hit in the morning.
\n
“I don’t think we’ve learned anything new,” said Tom Graff, head of fixed income at Brown Advisory. Graff added that the consensus for a short-term interest rate hikes in 2022 or 2023 hasn’t changed.
\n
A weak market, however, couldn’t keep some stocks down. The Nasdaq Composite declined 0.9%. All three finished near their lows of the day.\nFed governors have been dropping hints in recent weeks that the beginning of the end of the central bank’s bond buying was nearing, and the minutes confirmed that taperingis at hand. “Most participants noted that …it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year,” the minutes read.\nThe assessment comes as the economy has recovered quickly, and reflects that the Fed is now focused on when—and how quickly—to remove support from the economy.\nThe selloff was broad. About 83% of S&P 500 stocks fell on the day, according to FactSet. This dynamics often reflects concern about how the market will perform without the Fed there to support it.\nNow, it’s just a question of when tapering will begin. It’ “is going to be September or December,” said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager and analyst at Aptus Capital Advisors. “Everyone is focusing on Jackson Hole in my opinion,” he continued, referring to the conclave of central bankers that occurs later this month in Jackson Hole, Wyo.\nStrangely, the bond market didn’t react all that much, with the 10-year Treasury yield closing at 1.27%, where it hovered for most of the day. The 2-year yield, which often moves higher when market participants see the Fed hiking short-term interest rates sooner, ended at 0.21%, lower than the 0.22% it hit in the morning.\n“I don’t think we’ve learned anything new,” said Tom Graff, head of fixed income at Brown Advisory. Graff added that the consensus for a short-term interest rate hikes in 2022 or 2023 hasn’t changed.\nA weak market, however, couldn’t keep some stocks down. For some, it was about earnings.Lowe’s (ticker: LOW) stock rose 9.6% after reporting a profit of $4.25 a share, beating estimates of $4.01 a share, on sales of $27.6 billion, above expectations for $26.9 billion.TJX (TJX) stock rose 6% after reporting a profit of 64 cents a share, beating estimates of 59 cents a share, on sales of $12.1 billion, above expectations for $11 billion.\nOthers were buoyed by analyst upgrades, with ViacomCBS (VIAC) stock rose 3.7% after getting upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight at Wells Fargo, and BlackBerry (BB) stock gained 4.2% after getting upgraded to Hold from Sell at Canaccord Genuity.\nTilray (TLRY) stock rose 1.1% after the company bought senior secured convertible notes in marijuana company MedMen Enterprises. International benchmarkBrent cruderose 1.2%, or 93 cents, to $77.10 per barrel.\nDiscussions beganlast weekbetween OPEC and its allies, known as OPEC+, as the energy alliance sought to establish output policy for the remainder of the year. The group on Friday voted on a proposal that would have returned 400,000 barrels per day to the market each month from August through December, resulting in an additional 2 million barrels per day by the end of the year. Members also proposed extending the output cuts through the end of 2022.\nThe United Arab Emirates rejected these proposals, however, and talks stretched from Thursday to Friday as the group tried to reach a consensus. Initially, discussions were set to resume on Monday but were ultimately called off.\n“The date of the next meeting will be decided in due course,” OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said in a statement.\nOPEC+ took historic measures in April 2020 and removed nearly 10 million barrels per day of production in an effort to support prices as demand for petroleum-products plummeted. Since then, the group has been slowly returning barrels to the market, while meeting on a near monthly basis to discuss output policy.\n“For us, it wasn’t a good deal,” UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazroueitold CNBC on Sunday. He added that the country would support a short-term increase in supply, but wants better terms if the policy is to be extended through 2022.\nOil’s blistering rally this year — WTI has gained 57% during 2021 — meant that ahead of last week’s meeting many Wall Street analysts expected the group to boost production in an effort to curb the spike in prices.\n“With no increase in production, the forthcoming growth in demand should see global energy markets tighten up at an even faster pace than anticipated,” analysts at TD Securities wrote in a note to clients.\n“This impasse will lead to a temporary and significantly larger-than-anticipated deficit, which should fuel even higher prices for the time being. The summer breakout in oil prices is set to gather steam at a fast clip,” the firm added.\n— CNBC’s Sam Meredith contributed reporting.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":127,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":897694687,"gmtCreate":1628910440849,"gmtModify":1633688554494,"author":{"id":"3575024526885711","authorId":"3575024526885711","name":"KennyTay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/47f7bd4cbb6a8b151124c314930f9feb","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575024526885711","authorIdStr":"3575024526885711"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Smile] But compared to history, the multiples sit","content":"
Amazon stock’s valuations still look rich on the surface. But compared to history, the multiples sit near multi-year lows. Could this be a good time to buy and hold shares?
\n
Amazon stock has been having a choppy 2021 so far. Shares have managed to stay (barely) in the green for the year, but the zigzagging has been stomach-churning for investors. In the past five trading days alone, the stock has been down about 7%,following a disappointing Q2 earnings report.
\n
The better news is that a stale share price coupled with improving financial performance (e.g. robust growth in revenue, earnings and cash flow) have led to lower valuations. Today, the Amazon Maven shows how AMZN, a traditionally pricy stock, is currently valued near a multi-year trough.
\n
A closer look at valuations
\n
The table below, provided by Alpha Spread, summarizes Amazon’s key relative valuation multiples.
\n
On the surface, the stock continues to look expensive, certainly to value investors. Price-to-sales of 4 times is quite rich for a company with modest margins, and so is trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 63 times – the S&P 500 trades at a P/E of nearly half this much, at around 33 times.
\n
Figure 1: AMZN current valuation multiples.
\n
But relative to Amazon stock’s own history, these metrics are far from stretched today. The chart below shows how P/E and EV/EBIT, two important P&L-related valuation metrics, currently sit very much at five-year lows.
\n
Better yet, the two figures are based on trailing results. Look forward, and the multiples look even more enticing. For example:according to Seeking Alpha, analysts expect Amazon’s EPS to rise to over $160 by 2025. At those levels, and assuming today’s stock price, the five-year forward P/E is only 20 times. But compared to history, the multiples sit near multi-year lows. Could this be a good time to buy and hold shares?\nAmazon stock has been having a choppy 2021 so far. Shares have managed to stay (barely) in the green for the year, but the zigzagging has been stomach-churning for investors. In the past five trading days alone, the stock has been down about 7%,following a disappointing Q2 earnings report.\nThe better news is that a stale share price coupled with improving financial performance (e.g. robust growth in revenue, earnings and cash flow) have led to lower valuations. Today, the Amazon Maven shows how AMZN, a traditionally pricy stock, is currently valued near a multi-year trough.\nA closer look at valuations\nThe table below, provided by Alpha Spread, summarizes Amazon’s key relative valuation multiples.\nOn the surface, the stock continues to look expensive, certainly to value investors. Price-to-sales of 4 times is quite rich for a company with modest margins, and so is trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 63 times – the S&P 500 trades at a P/E of nearly half this much, at around 33 times.\nFigure 1: AMZN current valuation multiples.\nBut relative to Amazon stock’s own history, these metrics are far from stretched today. The chart below shows how P/E and EV/EBIT, two important P&L-related valuation metrics, currently sit very much at five-year lows.\nBetter yet, the two figures are based on trailing results. Look forward, and the multiples look even more enticing. For example:according to Seeking Alpha, analysts expect Amazon’s EPS to rise to over $160 by 2025. At those levels, and assuming today’s stock price, the five-year forward P/E is only 20 times. Not bad at all for the stock of a market-dominant, high-growth company.\nFigure 2: AMZN P/E and EV/EBIT.\nOutside the income statement, other valuation metrics also tell a similar story. For instance, price-to-book ratio of 16 times is the lowest in five years at least (see chart below), other than during the most intense few weeks of the COVID-19 bear.\nEnterprise value-to-invested capital of 9 times is off the lows of 2020 and late 2019. However, the metric currently sits only two turns away from the ten-year minimum of 7 times reached in 2014.\nFigure 3: AMZN P/B and EV/IC.\nThe Amazon Maven’s take\nThe graphs and tables above support the bullish views that the Amazon Maven has proposed since the company’s Q2 earnings release:\n\n “On one hand, momentum traders will likely want to keep some distance from AMZN, now that e-commerce is expected to decelerate in a post-pandemic environment. On the other hand, investors might want to take advantage of the dip to accumulate shares. The Amazon Maven has published its research on the best time to buy Amazon, and the evidence is clear: doing so after pullbacks tends to result in better forward one-year returns.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":135,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":811883709,"gmtCreate":1630309065501,"gmtModify":1704958166088,"author":{"id":"3575024526885711","authorId":"3575024526885711","name":"KennyTay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/47f7bd4cbb6a8b151124c314930f9feb","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575024526885711","authorIdStr":"3575024526885711"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Smile] ","listText":"[Smile] ","text":"[Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/811883709","repostId":"1129827670","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129827670","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1630308595,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1129827670?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-30 15:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Happy Birthday Warren Buffett: What makes him so famous and successful","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129827670","media":"moneycontrol","summary":"The world’s most famous nonagenarian turns 91 today and it’s always a good time to reflect on what m","content":"
The world’s most famous nonagenarian turns 91 today and it’s always a good time to reflect on what makes him as famous (or successful or rich) as he is – of course, several books (The Warren Buffett Way, by Robert G.
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","BRK.A":"伯克希尔"},"source_url":"https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/happy-birthday-warren-buffett-what-makes-him-so-famous-and-successful-7400621.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1129827670","content_text":"The world’s most famous nonagenarian turns 91 today and it’s always a good time to reflect on what makes him as famous (or successful or rich) as he is – of course, several books (The Warren Buffett Way, by Robert G. He is able to avoid businesses he doesn’t understand, and hence doesn’t fall prey to trend-based investing.\nHe has pointed out how none of the top 20 companies by market cap in 1989 were in the top 20 today. He also highlighted that even in a booming industry over the last century, automobiles, there were over 2000 defunct companies.\nBy 2009, there were just three left, of which two had been rescued from bankruptcy by the US government.\n“…there was a lot more to picking stocks than figuring out what’s going to be a wonderful industry in the future.”\nTo end this piece, I want to leave you with words from the man himself that in a way capture the inspiration for starting my own investment firm:\n“To invest successfully over a lifetime does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insights, or inside information. What’s needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding that framework.”.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":342,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891537299,"gmtCreate":1628398562511,"gmtModify":1633747355210,"author":{"id":"3575024526885711","authorId":"3575024526885711","name":"KennyTay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/47f7bd4cbb6a8b151124c314930f9feb","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575024526885711","authorIdStr":"3575024526885711"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Smile] ","listText":"[Smile] ","text":"[Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/891537299","repostId":"1180529438","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1180529438","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1628386129,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1180529438?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-08 09:28","market":"us","language":"en","title":"SEC Moves First DeFi Unregistered Securities Lawsuit","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1180529438","media":"Benzinga","summary":"The United States Securities and Exchange Commission sued the organization responsible for the development of a decentralized finance protocol over activities involved with the project for the first time.What Happened: According to a Friday SEC announcement, the agency has sued Cayman Islands-based Blockchain Credit Partners and two of its top executives over allegedly selling unregistered securities through its DeFi Money Market platform from February 2020 to February 2021. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance.On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago,raising $587 million.The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this.The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far.Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":114,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199765489,"gmtCreate":1620735239341,"gmtModify":1634196745600,"author":{"id":"3575024526885711","authorId":"3575024526885711","name":"KennyTay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/47f7bd4cbb6a8b151124c314930f9feb","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575024526885711","authorIdStr":"3575024526885711"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"A","listText":"A","text":"A","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/199765489","repostId":"2134551566","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":539,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
