stocks fell on Friday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrials Average into the red for the week, as inflation fears overshadowed strong retail sales numbers and better-than-expected earnings reports.\nThe Dow lost 299.17 points, or 0.86%, to close at 34,687.85. The S&P 500 dipped 0.75% to 4,327.16 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.8% to 14,427.24.\nThe three averages closed the week lower to each snap 3-week win streaks. The Dow ended the week down 0.52%, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.97% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.87% during the same period.\n\nA U.S.consumer sentimentindex from the University of Michigan came in at 80.8 for the first half of July, down from 85.5 last month and worse than estimates from economists, who projected an increase. The report released Friday showed inflation expectations rising, with consumers believing prices will increase 4.8% in the next year, the highest level since August 2008.\nThe Dow gave up its gains early Friday shortly after the University of Michigan report came out 30 minutes into the session. Losses increased as the day went on with major averages closing at the lows of the session.\nThe consumer sentiment weakness “is at face value hard to square with the acceleration in employment growth and the continued resilience of the stock market,” said Andrew Hunter, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics, but the report “suggested that concerns over surging inflation are now outweighing those positive trends.”\nInflation fears\nThe market was held back all week by inflation fears although the S&P 500 and Dow did touch new all-time highs briefly. On Tuesday, theconsumer price indexshowed a 5.4% increase in June from a year ago, the fastest pace in nearly 13 years.\nStocks got off to a good start Friday with the Dow rising more than 100 points to above 35,000 shortly after the open.Data released before the bell showed retail and food service salesrose 0.6% in June, while economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected a 0.4% decline. If that level held, it would have been the Dow’s first close ever above 35,000.\nDespite the week’s losses, the Dow is still up 13% for the year and sits just 1.15% from an all-time high. The S&P 500 is up 15% on the year and is 1.51% below its record level.\n“The market looks broadly fairly valued to me, with most stocks priced to provide a market rate of return plus or minus a few percent,” Bill Miller, chairman and chief investment officer of Miller Value Partners, said in an investor letter.\n“There are pockets of what look like appreciable over-valuation and pockets of significant undervaluation in the US market, in my opinion. We can find plenty of names to fill our portfolios and so remain fully invested,” the value investor added.\nEnergy correction\nEnergy stocks, the hottest part of the market in 2021, fell into correction territory on Friday as oil prices pulled back from their highs.\nThe Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund fell more than 2% on Friday, the worst of any group, dropping 14% from its high. Still, the sector is up about 28% in 2021, making it the top performer of any of the 11 main industry groups.\nWeaker performance from technology stocks also weighed on the market Friday. Shares of Apple closed 1.4% lower afternotching a record closejust two days prior. Netflix shares fell ahead of the streaming giant’s second-quarter earnings report next week.\nInvestors digested strong earnings results from the first major week of second-quarter reports. Though some of the nation’s largest companies posted healthy earnings and revenues amid the economic recovery, the reaction in the stock market has so far been muted.\nThe Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ended the week 1.5% lower despite big profit growth numbers posted by the likes of JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.\n“Good earnings might have become an excuse for some investors to take profit. And with earnings expectations so high in general, it takes a really big beat for a company to impress,” JJ Kinahan, TD Ameritrade chief market strategist, said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":513,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147599527,"gmtCreate":1626362194169,"gmtModify":1633927459091,"author":{"id":"3576655528368147","authorId":"3576655528368147","name":"CeLsIuS","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576655528368147","authorIdStr":"3576655528368147"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting news","listText":"Interesting news","text":"Interesting news","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/147599527","repostId":"1125623556","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1125623556","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626360370,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1125623556?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-15 22:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"GM Warns Some Bolt EV Owners To Park Vehicles Outside Due to Spontaneous Combustion Risk","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1125623556","media":"Benzinga","summary":"General Motors has asked the owners of 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt EVs to park their vehicles outside a","content":"
General Motors has asked the owners of 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt EVs to park their vehicles outside and away from homes due to a risk of unexpectedly catching fire. Approximately 50,000 Bolt vehicles are impacted by this warning.\nWhat Else Happened:CNBC reported that GM said it has bought back some of the recalled vehicles, although it did not state the quantity involved.\n“At GM, safety is our highest priority, and we are moving as quickly as we can to investigate this issue,” said the company in a statement.\nThe new warning follows a pair of spontaneous combustion blazes created earlier this month by the Bolt, including one at the home of Vermont state Rep.Timothy Briglin, who is the chairman of the state House Committee on Energy and Technology and a vocal EV advocate.\nThe new warning comes one month after General Motors Chairwoman and CEO Mary Barra announced that the company was “targeting annual global EV sales of more than 1 million by 2025, and we are increasing our investment to scale faster because we see momentum building in the United States for electrification, along with customer demand for our product portfolio.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":732,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147837788,"gmtCreate":1626348919744,"gmtModify":1633927655959,"author":{"id":"3576655528368147","authorId":"3576655528368147","name":"CeLsIuS","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576655528368147","authorIdStr":"3576655528368147"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/147837788","repostId":"2151180525","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":252,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179872569,"gmtCreate":1626509443551,"gmtModify":1633926125994,"author":{"id":"3576655528368147","authorId":"3576655528368147","name":"CeLsIuS","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576655528368147","authorIdStr":"3576655528368147"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/179872569","repostId":"1198202103","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198202103","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626481985,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1198202103?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-17 08:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow drops nearly 300 points on Friday, snaps 3-week winning streak","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198202103","media":"CNBC","summary":"U.S. stocks fell on Friday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrials Average into the red for the week, as ","content":"
\n
U.S. stocks fell on Friday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrials Average into the red for the week, as inflation fears overshadowed strong retail sales numbers and better-than-expected earnings reports.\n...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The S&P 500 dipped 0.75% to 4,327.16 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.8% to 14,427.24.\nThe three averages closed the week lower to each snap 3-week win streaks. And with earnings expectations so high in general, it takes a really big beat for a company to impress,” JJ Kinahan, TD Ameritrade chief market strategist, said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":513,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147810386,"gmtCreate":1626348959645,"gmtModify":1633927655591,"author":{"id":"3576655528368147","authorId":"3576655528368147","name":"CeLsIuS","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576655528368147","authorIdStr":"3576655528368147"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/147810386","repostId":"2151360526","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2151360526","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1626345050,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2151360526?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-15 18:30","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Bank of New York Mellon Q2 EPS $1.13 Beats $1.00 Estimate","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2151360526","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:BK) reported quarterly earnings of $1.13 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.00 by 13 percent.
