Shortly before noon Thursday, shares of 15 EV makers were all moving higher, thanks to Wednesday’s mammoth IPO of Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ: RIVN).
\n
Rivian, of course, was leading the pack, while the shares moving up the least were those of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA), the first and largest by far of EV makers. That’s after BofA Securities raised its price objective for Tesla from $1,000 to $1,200 on Wednesday. Analyst John Murphy and his team also raised their price objectives for Lucid Group Inc. (NASDAQ: LCID) from $30 to $60 and for Fisker Inc. (NYSE: FSR) from $18 to $24. The firm gave Tesla and Fisker a Neutral rating while awarding Lucid a Buy rating.
\n
BofA also maintained its price objectives on two other EV makers. Canoo Inc. (NASDAQ: GOEV) and Lordstown Motors Group Inc. (NASDAQ: RIDE) both carry a $5 price objective and Underperform ratings.
\n
One interesting note in BofA’s analysis is its summation of Tesla’s dominance:
\n
\n It is debatable whether any of the start-up EV automakers will ultimately be dominant over the long run, especially in a very competitive industry where the traditional automakers are also ramping up EV efforts. However, if a large global footprint can be built with no-cost capital, the “growth” story will likely continue to carry the day for the stocks. In fact, on our revised price objectives, our analysis suggests that a 10% dilutive equity raise for TSLA could fund 40+ incremental plants and 10mm+ units of capacity, which would make TSLA effectively the largest global automaker, while a 10% dilutive equity raise for LCID could fund 3+ incremental plants and 750k+ incremental units of capacity, which would make LCID a relatively large global luxury automaker.\n
\n
Left unsaid there is that Lucid is never likely to catch up to, let alone pull ahead of, Tesla. That message also applies to Rivian, according to Murphy’s team:
\n
\n As has proven [to be] the case for TSLA over the past decade plus, the higher the upward spiral of stocks for the EV OEMs, the cheaper capital becomes to fund growth, which is then rewarded by investors with a higher stock price. The inverse of this dynamic is also true, and it is this self-fulfilling framework that has explained the extreme moves in TSLA stock in the past, and it is a helpful framework to think about how start-up EV automaker stocks may trade in the future.\n
\n
The downside risks to the group chasing Tesla include drying up of low-cost capital, inability to convert orders into sales, and failure to ramp up production. Upside risks include customer enthusiasm for the vehicles, successful execution of business strategies and incremental government stimulus for EVs.
\n
Rivian stock traded up 24% Thursday morning, to post a new high of $124.00. or slightly higher than Keppel's original offer of S$2.099 per share.
\n
In a release to the Singapore Exchange late Tuesday night, Keppel beefed up the cash component of the offer by S$0.20 per share to S$0.868 per share. SPH shareholders will still receive 0.596 Keppel Reit units (valued at S$0.685 as at Nov 9) and 0.782 SPH Reit units (valued S$0.798 as at Nov 9) per SPH share.
\n
The revised offer implies a total equity value for SPH of S$3.8 billion.
\n
\"The cumulative value of SPH Reit and Keppel Reit units offered has increased by S$0.052/share with improving market conditions,\" Keppel said in the release.
\n
Keppel's initial offer comprised cash of S$0.668 per share, 0.596 Keppel Reit units (valued at S$0.715) and 0.782 SPH Reit units (valued at S$0.716) per share.
\n
Based on the SPH REIT and Keppel REIT traded prices since the initial offer, the final offer implies a range of S$2.201-S$2.355/share. SPH shareholders will be receiving Keppel REIT units at a 10 per cent discount to its net asset value, Keppel also highlighted.
\n
Meanwhile, SPH and Keppel have entered into a supplemental letter to amend the implementation agreement and revise the terms of the scheme of arrangement.
\n
In a separate release, SPH - which publishes The Business Times - noted that the revised offer represents an improvement of 12 per cent over Keppel's original offer, as well as that of Cuscaden Peak's.
\n
It is a 57 per cent premium to the undisturbed trading price on March 30 and a 9 per cent premium to the last trading price on Nov 9.
\n
SPH said: \"Following Cuscaden Peak's announcement on Oct 29, SPH notified Keppel of the proposal and gave Keppel an opportunity to improve their current proposal. Keppel's revised scheme consideration is the outcome of SPH's engagement with Keppel to improve their proposal.\"
\n
Keppel highlighted that the final offer is \"firm and irrevocable\" with regulatory approvals obtained from MAS and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) of Australia.
\n
The higher cash consideration is expected to increase Keppel's pro forma net gearing post-transaction by 0.03x, with pro forma net gearing expected to remain below 1x.
\n
Subject to the approvals of both Keppel's and SPH's shareholders at their respective extraordinary general meetings slated for around Dec 8, as well as the sanction of the scheme by Singapore's High Court and the completion of SPH's media restructuring exercise, SPH shareholders can expect to receive the final consideration by mid January 2022.
\n
Loh Chin Hua, chief executive of Keppel Corporation, said: \"Taking into account improving global economic conditions as well as growing synergies which we have identified between Keppel and SPH's portfolio, Keppel is offering SPH shareholders a higher and final consideration of S$2.351/ share.\"
\n
He added: \"Even with the additional cash consideration of S$0.200/share, we continue to see value in the SPH portfolio.\"
\n
Shares in Keppel shed three cents to close at S$5.31, while shares in SPH closed one cent higher at S$2.16 on Tuesday.
","source":"lsy1636420184263","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; or slightly higher than Keppel's original offer of S$2.099 per share.\nIn a release to the Singapore Exchange late Tuesday night, Keppel beefed up the cash component of the offer by S$0.20 per share to S$0.868 per share. SPH shareholders will still receive 0.596 Keppel Reit units (valued at S$0.685 as at Nov 9) and 0.782 SPH Reit units (valued S$0.798 as at Nov 9) per SPH share.\nThe revised offer implies a total equity value for SPH of S$3.8 billion.\n\"The cumulative value of SPH Reit and Keppel Reit units offered has increased by S$0.052/share with improving market conditions,\" Keppel said in the release.\nKeppel's initial offer comprised cash of S$0.668 per share, 0.596 Keppel Reit units (valued at S$0.715) and 0.782 SPH Reit units (valued at S$0.716) per share.\nBased on the SPH REIT and Keppel REIT traded prices since the initial offer, the final offer implies a range of S$2.201-S$2.355/share. SPH shareholders will be receiving Keppel REIT units at a 10 per cent discount to its net asset value, Keppel also highlighted.\nMeanwhile, SPH and Keppel have entered into a supplemental letter to amend the implementation agreement and revise the terms of the scheme of arrangement.\nIn a separate release, SPH - which publishes The Business Times - noted that the revised offer represents an improvement of 12 per cent over Keppel's original offer, as well as that of Cuscaden Peak's.\nIt is a 57 per cent premium to the undisturbed trading price on March 30 and a 9 per cent premium to the last trading price on Nov 9.\nSPH said: \"Following Cuscaden Peak's announcement on Oct 29, SPH notified Keppel of the proposal and gave Keppel an opportunity to improve their current proposal. Keppel's revised scheme consideration is the outcome of SPH's engagement with Keppel to improve their proposal.\"\nKeppel highlighted that the final offer is \"firm and irrevocable\" with regulatory approvals obtained from MAS and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) of Australia.\nThe higher cash consideration is expected to increase Keppel's pro forma net gearing post-transaction by 0.03x, with pro forma net gearing expected to remain below 1x.\nSubject to the approvals of both Keppel's and SPH's shareholders at their respective extraordinary general meetings slated for around Dec 8, as well as the sanction of the scheme by Singapore's High Court and the completion of SPH's media restructuring exercise, SPH shareholders can expect to receive the final consideration by mid January 2022.\nLoh Chin Hua, chief executive of Keppel Corporation, said: \"Taking into account improving global economic conditions as well as growing synergies which we have identified between Keppel and SPH's portfolio, Keppel is offering SPH shareholders a higher and final consideration of S$2.351/ share.\"\nHe added: \"Even with the additional cash consideration of S$0.200/share, we continue to see value in the SPH portfolio.\"\nShares in Keppel shed three cents to close at S$5.31, while shares in SPH closed one cent higher at S$2.16 on Tuesday.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1070,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":844402250,"gmtCreate":1636448860665,"gmtModify":1636449054157,"author":{"id":"3580799026700204","authorId":"3580799026700204","name":"37472a9a","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580799026700204","authorIdStr":"3580799026700204"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a At ","content":"
TheNasdaq Composite(NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)continued its most recent bullish run on Thursday morning. At 11:45 a.m. EDT, theNasdaqwas up nearly a full percentage point, pushing even further into uncharted territory after setting an all-time high on Wednesday.
\n
Among the biggest gainers in the Nasdaq were stocks connected to the online advertising industry. Programmatic advertising giantThe Trade Desk(NASDAQ:TTD)and other players in advertising technology got a big boost from an unexpected source, and with the stocks having previously suffered due to concerns about their long-term sustainability, today's news offers a lifeline that just about nobody anticipated.
\n
Google does an about-face
\n
The big news in the advertising technology industry came from Alphabet's(NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG)Google, which made an announcement that reversed course from its previous strategic direction. Google said that it had changed its mind with respect to its plans to start blocking cookies on its Chrome browser, putting off the phase-out of third-party cookies until mid- to late 2023. Previously, the search giant had said it hoped to eliminate cookies by the end of this year.
\n
Privacy advocates had lauded Google's initial move, arguing that advertisers shouldn't be able to use browser activity to target ads. However, in its announcement of the delay, Google argued that it needed to provide more time for an inclusive discussion of issues including advertisers, publishers, and the general public to weigh and balance different considerations. The company cited numerous websites whose business models rely on advertising revenue that could potentially be harmed from an all-out ban on third-party cookies.
\n
Big gains across the ad-tech field
\n
The news sent advertising stocks soaring. The Trade Desk added 18%, reaching its best level since March.Criteo(NASDAQ:CRTO)shares jumped 11%, while shares of PubMatic(NASDAQ:PUBM) and Magnite(NASDAQ:MGNI)each rose 9%.
\n
Those stocks had seen significant declines when Google first talked about blocking cookies, but interestingly, both those drops and today's gains reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of the way programmatic advertising works.
\n
The Trade Desk's Jeff Greenexplained in the aftermath of the initial Google decision. As he noted, only about 20% of data-driven advertising stems from internet browsing activity, which is the only source of advertising that a third-party cookie ban would affect. Unchanged would be programmatic ads served through other sources, most notably by users logging into accounts for services like connected TV, because those sources have never relied on cookies to get key information on users.
\n
Indeed, having anticipated the potential problem, companies in programmatic advertising have worked on solutions of their own. At 11:45 a.m. EDT, theNasdaqwas up nearly a full percentage point, pushing even further into uncharted territory after setting an all-time high on Wednesday.\nAmong the biggest gainers in the Nasdaq were stocks connected to the online advertising industry. Programmatic advertising giantThe Trade Desk(NASDAQ:TTD)and other players in advertising technology got a big boost from an unexpected source, and with the stocks having previously suffered due to concerns about their long-term sustainability, today's news offers a lifeline that just about nobody anticipated.\nGoogle does an about-face\nThe big news in the advertising technology industry came from Alphabet's(NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG)Google, which made an announcement that reversed course from its previous strategic direction. Google said that it had changed its mind with respect to its plans to start blocking cookies on its Chrome browser, putting off the phase-out of third-party cookies until mid- to late 2023. Previously, the search giant had said it hoped to eliminate cookies by the end of this year.\nPrivacy advocates had lauded Google's initial move, arguing that advertisers shouldn't be able to use browser activity to target ads. However, in its announcement of the delay, Google argued that it needed to provide more time for an inclusive discussion of issues including advertisers, publishers, and the general public to weigh and balance different considerations. The company cited numerous websites whose business models rely on advertising revenue that could potentially be harmed from an all-out ban on third-party cookies.\nBig gains across the ad-tech field\nThe news sent advertising stocks soaring. The Trade Desk added 18%, reaching its best level since March.Criteo(NASDAQ:CRTO)shares jumped 11%, while shares of PubMatic(NASDAQ:PUBM) and Magnite(NASDAQ:MGNI)each rose 9%.\nThose stocks had seen significant declines when Google first talked about blocking cookies, but interestingly, both those drops and today's gains reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of the way programmatic advertising works.\nThe Trade Desk's Jeff Greenexplained in the aftermath of the initial Google decision. As he noted, only about 20% of data-driven advertising stems from internet browsing activity, which is the only source of advertising that a third-party cookie ban would affect. Unchanged would be programmatic ads served through other sources, most notably by users logging into accounts for services like connected TV, because those sources have never relied on cookies to get key information on users.\nIndeed, having anticipated the potential problem, companies in programmatic advertising have worked on solutions of their own. The Trade Desk started its own identification platform three years ago, known as Unified ID, and content publishers have flocked to offer it. Even if Google moves forward with full third-party cookie bans, the reliance of so many content providers on advertising revenue will support The Trade Desk and its peers in their continuing efforts to tailor advertising to specific viewers.\nIn the long run, advertising isn't going anywhere, and privacy concerns will have to be balanced against the economic needs of those providing valuable content and services via the internet. As long as consumers are more willing to watch ads than to pay for premium subscriptions to websites, The Trade Desk and its peers should find a way to reap long-term rewards for shareholders.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":437,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":120403586,"gmtCreate":1624330040545,"gmtModify":1634007673291,"author":{"id":"3580799026700204","authorId":"3580799026700204","name":"37472a9a","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580799026700204","authorIdStr":"3580799026700204"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Watch out.","listText":"Watch out.","text":"Watch out.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/120403586","repostId":"1175304129","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1175304129","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624329424,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1175304129?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-22 10:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The Bull Market Depends on These 2 Must-Watch Stocks This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175304129","media":"fool","summary":"The stock market has done exceptionally well in 2021, continuing to climb to all-time record highs a","content":"
The stock market has done exceptionally well in 2021, continuing to climb to all-time record highs amid strong hopes for a recovering economy. With the world starting to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, investors are excited about the prospects for things returning to how they were before the huge disruptions we've seen across the globe since early 2020. That excitement played out in major market benchmarks Monday morning, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average(DJINDICES:^DJI)climbed more than 500 points to 33,800, the S&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC)gained 47 points to 4,214, and the Nasdaq Composite(NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)climbed 67 points to 14,098.
\n
Earnings season is always a good way to tell how individual companies are faring, but some businesses have more importance than others. Later this week, delivery specialist FedEx(NYSE:FDX)and athletic apparel giant Nike(NYSE:NKE)will give their latest readings on their corporate results. Both will have major implications not just for their own shareholders but for those following the broader economy as well.
\n
Delivering for investors?
\n
FedEx is set to report its latest results on Thursday, June 24. Investors are expecting big things from the company, but a lot more will depend on what FedEx says about what the future will bring.
\n
Given the hit that FedEx took this time last year, it should come as little surprise that those following the delivery giant are looking for a major rebound. Consensus estimates among those tracking FedEx see earnings nearly doubling from year-ago levels, with revenue slated to rise at a healthy 24% pace.
\n
Indeed, in some ways,FedEx has too much of a good thing. Earlier this month, the company said it would cut service to some of its logistics customers who seek out less-than-truckload shipping services. The reason: Exceptionally strong demand was causing bottlenecks at key terminal locations that in turn were threatening to delay shipments. The issues aren't unique to FedEx, instead reflecting capacity constraints throughout the industry that are creating potential disruptions for customers seeking to get goods where they need to go.
\n
Investors will want to pay particularly close attention to any guidance that FedEx gives for its fiscal 2022 year. After having seen so much e-commerce activity drive pandemic-related gains, a return to more typical business conditions could create a temporary pause in FedEx's growth. How much that appears in projections could in turn say a lot about whether the stock can return to its former upward trajectory.
\n
Doing it
\n
Nike is also slated to release its financial results on Thursday morning. Investors hope to see a significant reversal from last year's painful experience.
\n
Nike appears to be ready to get back on trackwith its quarterly results. Revenue is expected to soar more than 75% from year-ago levels, which reflected store closures and other disruptions related to the pandemic. Nike's earnings will likely reverse year-ago losses, although bottom-line performance is still in the process of recovering from more difficult conditions.
\n
The big question is how a couple of key aspects of Nike's business will balance out. On one hand, demand is soaring both in Nike's home North American market and overseas in key places like China. That could help support revenue and profit gains into the coming fiscal year. At the same time, though, prices for materials have been on the rise, and that in turn could present challenges to profit margins.
\n
Nevertheless, Nike is looking to put its marketing machine to the test, with plenty of new product launches designed to stoke demand and give consumers a place to spend their savings. The success of those launches could well define the course of Nike's fiscal 2022, and that in turn could determine whether the stock can climb further after sizable gains over the past year or so.
\n
Be ready
\n
With so much uncertainty in the markets, key earnings reports can make or break the future direction for stocks. The S&P 500 also hit an intraday record of 4,249.74, overtaking its May 7 high after the market traded sideways for a month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 19.10 points, or less than 0.1%, to 34,466.24, while the Nasdaq Composite gained about 0.8% to 14,020.33.\nConsumer prices for May accelerated at their fastest pace since the summer of 2008 amid the economic recovery from the pandemic-triggered recession, the Labor Department reported Thursday.\nThe consumer price index, which represents a basket including food, energy, groceries and prices across a spectrum of goods, rose 5% from a year ago. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a gain of 4.7%.\n\"I think there were a lot of people who held back, who wanted to see the hotter inflation number,\" CNBC's Jim Cramer said on \"Squawk on the Street.\" \"Now they've said, 'OK, now that's over with. Let's do some buying.' Because they've been on the sideline and they want to get in. I don't think that's actually usual these days because there's still so much buying power out there. People want in.\"\nFears of spiking inflation have weighed on the stock market in the last month, with investors worried the jump in prices will raise costs for companies, spark a move higher in interest rates and cause the Federal Reserve to remove its easy money policies.\n\"This CPI isn't likely to change the narrative dramatically, and there are still indications that inflation momentum is set to abate in the coming months,\" Adam Crisafulli, founder of Vital Knowledge, said in a note Thursday.\nMany economists also said the surge in used car costs for the month could have skewed the inflation reading. Used car and truck prices jumped more than 7%, accounting for one-third of the total increase for the month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The jump in used car prices likely reflects a temporary phenomenon related to the pandemic and auto supply.\nA separate report released Thursday showed that jobless claims for the week ended June 5 came in at 376,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 370,000. The total still marked the lowest of the pandemic era.\nUPS shares rose about 1% afteran upgrade from JPMorgan. The European markets were slightly higher and the U.S. bourses were mixed and the Asian markets figure to split the difference.\nThe Hang Seng finished sharply higher on Thursday following gains from the financials, properties, casinos and technology companies.\nFor the day, the index jumped 251.85 points or 1.01 percent to finish at 25,247.99 after trading between 24,836.21 and 25,324.66.\nAmong the actives, AAC Technologies skyrocketed 5.97 percent, while AIA Group was up 0.48 percent, Alibaba Group advanced 1.24 percent, Alibaba Health Info increased 0.94 percent, ANTA Sports accelerated 2.50 percent, China Life Insurance jumped 2.06 percent, China Mengniu Dairy spiked 2.59 percent, China Petroleum and Chemical (Sinopec) improved 0.53 percent, China Resources Land surged 5.55 percent, CITIC rallied 2.35 percent, CNOOC sank 0.85 percent, Country Garden soared 5.01 percent, CSPC Pharmaceutical fell 0.24 percent, Galaxy Entertainment gained 1.14 percent, Hang Lung Properties lost 0.47 percent, Henderson Land added 1.19 percent, Hong Kong & China Gas shed 0.67 percent, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China collected 0.95 percent, Li Ning was up 0.42 percent, Longfor soared 5.06 percent, Meituan climbed 1.80 percent, New World Development gained 0.15 percent, Sands China perked 1.34 percent, Sun Hung Kai Properties rose 1.00 percent, Techtronic Industries tumbled 2.02 percent, Xiaomi Corporation strengthened 2.18 percent and WuXi Biologics gathered 1.63 percent.\nThe lead from Wall Street is mixed as the NASDAQ and S&P 500 opened higher on Thursday and remained that way, while the Dow opened in the red and closed under pressure.\nThe Dow dropped 158.71 points or 0.44 percent to finish at 35,921.23, while the NASDAQ advanced 81.58 points or 0.52 percent to close at 15,704.28 and the S&P 500 rose 2.56 points or 0.06 percent to end at 4,649.27.\nThe rebound by the NASDAQ and S&P 500 came as some traders looked to pick up stocks at somewhat reduced levels after the drop on Tuesday and Wednesday dragged the major averages down well off Monday's record closing highs.\nA notable decline by shares of Disney (DIS) weighed on the Dow, with the entertainment giant slumping by 7.1 percent after its Q3 numbers missed estimates on both the top and bottom lines.\nBut overall trading activity was subdued as some traders stuck to the sidelines amid the Veterans Day holiday. While the stock markets were open as usual on the day, banks, federal offices and the bonds markets all remained closed.\nCrude oil futures settled higher on as traders weighed global energy demand and supply prospects. West Texas Intermediate Crude oil futures for December ended up by $0.25 or 0.3 percent at $81.59 a barrel.\nCloser to home, Hong Kong will release final Q3 figures for gross domestic product later today. More important to analysts was Intel's forecast for declining margins over the next few years as its chief executive doubles down on new manufacturing capacity to try to retake its former glory as the undisputed chip leader.
\n
That led to downgrades on Friday and Intel's worst one-day performance since the chip leader said it was going to delay its next generation of chips, an announcement that had fired up even more investor support for AMD back then.
\n
Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon, who has a market perform rating on AMD and a $110 price target, said AMD will continue to benefit from Intel's transition, and called attention to an AMD metric that was one of enormous concern during Intel's call: Gross margins.
\n
\"We believe Street gross margin estimates appear unaggressive going forward (which is not something we have typically said for AMD), and the company is now (for the first time ever) starting to return cash,\" Rasgon said.
\n
That underscores another show of how Intel and AMD are transitioning with respect to one another: Analysts on the Intel call were very concerned that Intel's margins were falling despite company assurances they would stay just above 50% for the next few years. Meanwhile, AMD gross margins have been rising, and are likely to break above 50%, if not in this earnings report, then sometime soon. Three months ago, AMD reported gross margins of 48%, up from 44% in the previous year.
\n
While AMD is referred to as Intel's \"smaller rival,\" that gap has been steadily closing for a while now. At Friday's close, AMD had a market cap of $145.34 billion, or nearly 73% of Intel's $200.66 billion. Just this past summer, AMD's $111.5 billion valuation was a little more than half Intel's $219.5 billion cap.
\n
One other are to look at will be data-center sales, as finally swung to a gain in that important segment in the quarter. Over the past two quarters, Intel has posted significant year-over-year declines in the increasingly important category, while AMD has more than doubled its sales. That raises the question whether Intel clawed back some market share, or whether data-center sales were just generally better all around, which AMD's report could answer.
\n
What to expect
\n
Earnings: Of the 34 analysts surveyed by FactSet, AMD on average is expected to post adjusted earnings of 66 cents a share, up from 41 cents a share reported in the year-ago period. Estimize, a software platform that crowdsources estimates from hedge-fund executives, brokerages, buy-side analysts and others, calls for earnings of 72 cents a share.
\n
Revenue: Of the 32 analysts polled by FactSet, AMD, on average, is expected to post revenue of $4.11 billion, up from the $2.8 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. AMD had forecast $4 billion to $4.2 billion. Estimize expects revenue of $4.22 billion.
\n
Stock movement: While AMD earnings and sales have both topped Wall Street estimates over the past five quarterly reports, but shares only gained the next day twice, about three months ago and when the stock popped nearly 13% five quarters ago.
\n
AMD shares rose 9.6% in the third quarter. In contrast, the PHLX Semiconductor Index declined 2.6%, the S&P 500 index rose 0.2%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index declined 0.4%. On Friday, the day after Intel's report, AMD shares closed at a record high of $119.82.
\n
What analysts are saying
\n
Cowen analyst Matthew Ramsay, who has an outperform rating and a $120 price target on AMD, said he's \"lookin' for more of the same.\"
\n
\"We continue to monitor the PC market for signs of demand slowing or supply improving,\" Ramsay said. \"Near-term, we see resilient demand outside Chromebooks, but prefer a prudent/agnostic view on 2022 like AMD took on its last call.\"
\n
Earlier in the month, research firms released data showing that pandemic-fueled growth in PC shipments had slowed considerably as the world not only wrestles with a chip shortage but overall supply-chain issues.
\n
On data-center sales, Ramsay is even more optimistic estimating that segment will account for more than 25% of sales compared with less than 20% a year ago.
\n
\"We believe datacenter passing a quarter of AMD's business could draw investor attention,\" Ramsay said. \"We remind investors that the most important business for AMD remains datacenter, which we estimate doubled in 2020, with CEO Lisa Su noting she sees the business momentum accelerating in 2021.\"
\n
Susquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Rolland, who has a positive rating and a $130 price target on AMD, said he expects another solid quarter driven by enterprise and server sales, but that \"given the slowing PC market, we do not expect mgmt to raise their FY top-line guidance as they have done in numerous updates over the last year.\"
\n
Still, Rolland expects AMD to report share gains from Intel in both desktop and laptop PCs as well as enterprise and gaming PCs.
\n
Of the 39 analysts who cover AMD, 23 have buy or overweight ratings, and 16 have hold ratings, with an average price target of $117.55.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The S&P 500 registered its second-best first-half performance since 1998, rising 14.5%.
\n
“It’s been a good quarter,” said Robert Pavlik, senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth in Fairfield, Connecticut. “As of last night’s close, the S&P has gained more than 14% year-to-date, topping the Dow and the Nasdaq.
