the enterprise software giant posted better-than-expected financial results for its fiscal second quarter ended Nov. 30.
\n
<img billion, up 6% from a year ago, and ahead of both the company’s guidance range of 3% to 5% growth, and the Street consensus forecast for $10.2 billion. It was the company’s best quarter of growth since 2018.
\n
Non-GAAP profits were $1.21 a share, up 14% from a year ago, and a dime ahead of the Street consensus at $1.11 a share. Oracle’s guidance had been for profits of $1.09 to $1.13 a share. The company said cloud service and license support was $7.6 billion, up 6%. Cloud license and on-premise license revenues were up 13% to $1.2 billion.
\n
Under generally accepted accounting principles, the company lost 46 cents a share, reflecting a judgment tied to a 10-year old legal dispute related to the hiring of the late Mark Hurd as the company’s CEO.
\n
Oracle CEO Safra Catz said in a statement that the company saw 22% growth in its infrastructure and applications cloud business. Fusion ERP, the company’s financial software for large businesses, saw revenue growth of 35%, while NetSuite ERP, which serves smaller customers, grew 29%. Fusion HCM, the company’s HR software application, was up 25%. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure consumption revenue was up 86%.
\n
Oracle also announced a new $10 billion stock-repurchase authorization. In the quarter, the company bought back $7 billion of stock. Catz noted that the company over the last 10 years has repurchased 47% of its stock at an average price about half of the current level.
\n
On a conference call with analysts on Thursday afternoon, Catz said Oracle had a “fantastic quarter,” with “broad-based outperformance across the company.” She noted that the better-than-expected results came despite a currency headwind of $100 million in revenue and a penny a share in profits.
\n
Catz said the company’s fiscal 2022 revenue growth continues to accelerate from the 2021 level. Oracle, she said, is being driven by growth in its cloud business in the mid-20 percentage range, accelerating from the Q2 level.
\n
For the fiscal third quarter, Catz said, the company sees growth of 6% to 8% in constant currency, and 3% to 5% as reported, and profits of $1.14 to $1.18 as reported, or $1.19 to $1.23 in constant currency. The S&P 500 dipped 0.75% to 4,327.16 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.8% to 14,427.24.\nThe three averages closed the week lower to each snap 3-week win streaks. The Dow ended the week down 0.52%, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.97% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.87% during the same period.\n\nA U.S.consumer sentimentindex from the University of Michigan came in at 80.8 for the first half of July, down from 85.5 last month and worse than estimates from economists, who projected an increase. The report released Friday showed inflation expectations rising, with consumers believing prices will increase 4.8% in the next year, the highest level since August 2008.\nThe Dow gave up its gains early Friday shortly after the University of Michigan report came out 30 minutes into the session. Losses increased as the day went on with major averages closing at the lows of the session.\nThe consumer sentiment weakness “is at face value hard to square with the acceleration in employment growth and the continued resilience of the stock market,” said Andrew Hunter, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics, but the report “suggested that concerns over surging inflation are now outweighing those positive trends.”\nInflation fears\nThe market was held back all week by inflation fears although the S&P 500 and Dow did touch new all-time highs briefly. On Tuesday, theconsumer price indexshowed a 5.4% increase in June from a year ago, the fastest pace in nearly 13 years.\nStocks got off to a good start Friday with the Dow rising more than 100 points to above 35,000 shortly after the open.Data released before the bell showed retail and food service salesrose 0.6% in June, while economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected a 0.4% decline. If that level held, it would have been the Dow’s first close ever above 35,000.\nDespite the week’s losses, the Dow is still up 13% for the year and sits just 1.15% from an all-time high. The S&P 500 is up 15% on the year and is 1.51% below its record level.\n“The market looks broadly fairly valued to me, with most stocks priced to provide a market rate of return plus or minus a few percent,” Bill Miller, chairman and chief investment officer of Miller Value Partners,said in an investor letter.\n“There are pockets of what look like appreciable over-valuation and pockets of significant undervaluation in the US market, in my opinion. We can find plenty of names to fill our portfolios and so remain fully invested,” the value investor added.\nEnergy correction\nEnergy stocks, the hottest part of the market in 2021, fell into correction territory on Friday as oil prices pulled back from their highs.\nThe Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund fell more than 2% on Friday, the worst of any group, dropping 14% from its high. Still, the sector is up about 28% in 2021, making it the top performer of any of the 11 main industry groups.\nWeaker performance from technology stocks also weighed on the market Friday. Shares of Apple closed 1.4% lower afternotching a record closejust two days prior. Netflix shares fell ahead of the streaming giant’s second-quarter earnings report next week.\nInvestors digested strong earnings results from the first major week of second-quarter reports. Though some of the nation’s largest companies posted healthy earnings and revenues amid the economic recovery, the reaction in the stock market has so far been muted.\nThe Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ended the week 1.5% lower despite big profit growth numbers posted by the likes of JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.\n“Good earnings might have become an excuse for some investors to take profit. And with earnings expectations so high in general, it takes a really big beat for a company to impress,” JJ Kinahan, TD Ameritrade chief market strategist, said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":291,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":602847488,"gmtCreate":1639010146903,"gmtModify":1639010147238,"author":{"id":"3581759751571815","authorId":"3581759751571815","name":"Remedy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ee44c4275133fc0f9b0a167e321a09e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581759751571815","authorIdStr":"3581759751571815"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/602847488","repostId":"2190169579","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":346,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
