\"gamma hammers\" to \"gamma unclenching\", the cycles of pump, dump, and BTFD has been unrelenting this year, with the pattern around options expirations becoming more and more pronounced since May...\nNomura's Charlie McElligott notes thatthe (options market) “tail” continues to wag the (cash equities market) “dog,” crunched by “yield enhancement” / “income generating” overwriting flows(that even The FT is starting to pay attention to).\nThe surge into these 'overwriting' funds...\n\n...has stuffed dealers to the gills with gamma and delta exposures at extreme levels...\nFor some context on what this means, the Nomura strategist explains:\n\n The cumulative flows from the “Gamma Hammer” strangle-seller alone (2 clips a day, ~3x’s a week in approximately 2-3 week expiration 20d strangles) has Dealers long ~$3B in Gamma (and at a cost of nearly ~5.0mm / day in decay) -\n which means that for a generic 100bps selloff, desks would in theory be in the mkt buying ~$2.5B of futures - which in-turn prevents any nascent selloff from developing thanks to said “insulation”\n\nWhich is obvious when we see there hasn't been a 3bps drawdown since May...\nBut, McElligott'sfocus is on the mid-September period as the point where US Equities may locally “peak”:\n\n...as the now well-publicized Op-Ex cycle “volatility expansion” phenomenon \n (VIX 15th, index / ETFs 17th and set-up for\nanother large “Gamma unclench”\noccurring while then too losing aforementioned Vanna- and Charm- supports into this large serial / qtrly expiration) \n coinciding with the “buyback blackout”kicking-off for US Financials in that 3rd week of September…\n and\nall ahead of the FOMC on the 22nd\n\nSpecifically, McElligott notes thatThe Fed timing here is particularly meaningful- not because the potential for an “official” announcement of “tapering” is some massive deal to markets (I believe we are well past that now) - but more because the potential for movement in the Committee’s economic projections and thus, the “dots,” which could cause some Rates upheaval after being firmly parked within their own range-trade hellscape for the past two months themselves (UST 10Y yields ~1.10-1.40).\nAnd because of the potential for US Rates volatility around / after the 22nd Fed meeting as the market resets expectations on both the future path of hikes (off the new economic projections) and tapering,I think this “event risk” could then decrease the supply of “short vol” which has been conditioned to step-in the moment that volatility typically expands(i.e. around the Op-Ex cycle, which has finally gone “mainstream” and seemingly now trades like it too….see this past weekend’s write-up from Bloomberg “Options Turn Upheavals Into a Mid-Month Sure Thing for S&P 500”).\nThis could mean a longer period without the support that comes from said “short vol” flows reflexively swooping-in to save the day, which over the past decade + have acted to reset nascent spikes in volatility and stop the bleeding—IF this time we were to see those flows on hold due to the FOMC event risk a week later, their potential absence could allow for the “delta one” flow to hold more sway than usual of late (all that EPIC $Delta from index / ETF options as a source of de-risking flow, as well as Vol Control strategy de-allocation supply into an rVol move higher off of such an absolutely low base).","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":816387620,"gmtCreate":1630467803960,"gmtModify":1633677832196,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/816387620","repostId":"1118739748","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1283,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":816942886,"gmtCreate":1630462864645,"gmtModify":1633677870898,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Lovely] quarter of stel","content":"
Big Oil is coming off yet another blockbuster season, posting the second consecutive quarter of stellar top-and-bottom line growth. According to the latest FactSet data, the energy sector's Q2 2021 revenue growth rate of 24.9% came in way higher than Wall Street's estimate of 19.4% while the sector reported earnings of $15.9 billion compared to a loss of -$10.6 billion in Q2 2020 marked the biggest Y/Y improvement of any of the S&P 500's 11 market sectors.
\n
Interestingly, the Big Oil duo of ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) and Chevron Corp. (NYSE:CVX) were largely to thank for the outstanding performance, with the two combining for $13.9 billion of the $26.8 billion year-over-year increase in earnings for the sector.
\n
Not surprisingly, the majority of the oil and gas majors have been using their cash bonanza to reward shareholders with higher dividends and buybacks.
\n
Chevron, Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR), and Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS.A) have announced dividend hikes during their latest earnings call while ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) and BP Plc (NYSE:BP) have reinstated share buybacks after bumper earnings.
\n
But contrary to Wall Street's expectations, Big Oil's cash bounty, including fat dividends, has mostly failed to impress investors, a rather surprising development in a market starved of yields.
\n
There's a method to the madness, though.
\n
Kathy Hipple, finance professor at Bard College in New York, has told CNBC that Big Oil's bid to lure back investors with cash rewards is unlikely to work on long-term investors.
\n
Dividend traps
\n
Companies in all sectors normally use dividends and share buybacks to make their shares more attractive to investors.
\n
For most companies, dividend payments act as a token reward to shareholders for their investment. However, oil companies are particularly adept at dishing out these token rewards, and Big Oil sports some of the most impressive yields in the business.
\n
ExxonMobil currently sports a 6.60% dividend yield (Fwd); Chevron yields 5.68%, BP 5.56%, Shell 5.01%, while MPLX LP (NYSE:MPLX) checks in with 10.01% fwd yield.
\n
Meanwhile, share buybacks are designed to boost a company's earnings, which eventually reflects in its share price.
\n
However, Hipple says that whereas a 10% yield can act as a powerful magnet for the average income investor, savvy, long-term investors are not falling for it because they view oil and gas companies as dividend traps with a sell-by date that is moving closer by the day.
\n
\"Once institutional investors determine that demand has peaked--which likely has already happened--they will abandon the sector permanently. Many already have, based on the stock performance of the sector over the past several years.\"
\n
Stranded assets
\n
Hipple said that savvy long-term investors will continue to shy away from oil and gas majors \"unless and until\" they fully acknowledge the climate crisis due to the very real risk of stranded assets.
\n
\"These investors understand that the oil majors are still investing tens of billions in unnecessary oil and gas infrastructure, ignoring the IEA findings that no additional infrastructure is possible to meet a 1.5 [degrees Celsius] scenario. These investments are likely to become stranded assets, and investors don't want to be left holding the bag.\"
\n
She certainly has a valid point here.
\n
Last week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change delivered its starkest warning yet about the deepening climate emergency, saying a key temperature limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius could be broken in just over a decade in the absence of immediate, rapid, and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
\n
U.N. Secretary-General, António Guterres, has described the report's findings as a \"code red for humanity,\" saying they \"must sound a death knell\" for fossil fuels.
\n
True, U.S. Shale companies are exercising a lot more capital discipline than they have in the past. Shale drillers have a history of matching their capital spending to the strength of oil and gas prices; However, Big Oil is ditching the old playbook this time around. Rystad Energy says that whereas hydrocarbon sales, cash from operations and EBITDA for tight oil producers are all likely to test new record highs if WTI averages at least $60 per barrel this year, capital expenditure will only see muted growth as many producers remain committed to maintaining operational discipline.
\n
However, the lion's share of these investments is still flowing towards developing new oil and gas assets, with a minuscule fraction going towards sustainable energy.
\n
Hipple is hardly alone in her dim view of legacy oil and gas companies.
\n
\"We frankly just don't think these are very good businesses. With the oil companies, we still just don't think they represent good long-term businesses. They don't generate consistent returns on capital or cash flow, albeit at the moment they look to be in a pretty good place,\" David Moss, head of European equities at BMO Global Asset Management, has told CNBC.
\n
Moss, in particular, faults European energy majors which are currently generating \"very strong\" cash flows amid a sustained rebound in oil prices but many are choosing to keep a tight lid on spending rather than invest in sustainable energy.
\n
It appears that Wall Street is now doing a 180 and increasingly turning bearish on oil and gas.
\n
In a recent report, Standard Chartered says Wall Street is plain wrong in its expectations of high oil prices because \"...a significant amount of money has already entered the market in the Wall Street-generated belief (mistaken according to our analysis) that the balances are much tighter and justify USD 80-100/bbl.\"
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Big Oil Looks To Woo Investors Back With Massive Dividends
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBig Oil Looks To Woo Investors Back With Massive Dividends\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-23 08:23 GMT+8 Oilprice.com\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Big Oil is coming off yet another blockbuster season, posting the second consecutive quarter of stellar top-and-bottom line growth. (NYSE:CVX) were largely to thank for the outstanding performance, with the two combining for $13.9 billion of the $26.8 billion year-over-year increase in earnings for the sector.\nNot surprisingly, the majority of the oil and gas majors have been using their cash bonanza to reward shareholders with higher dividends and buybacks.\nChevron, Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR), and Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS.A) have announced dividend hikes during their latest earnings call while ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) and BP Plc (NYSE:BP) have reinstated share buybacks after bumper earnings.\nBut contrary to Wall Street's expectations, Big Oil's cash bounty, including fat dividends, has mostly failed to impress investors, a rather surprising development in a market starved of yields.\nThere's a method to the madness, though.\nKathy Hipple, finance professor at Bard College in New York, has told CNBC that Big Oil's bid to lure back investors with cash rewards is unlikely to work on long-term investors.\nDividend traps\nCompanies in all sectors normally use dividends and share buybacks to make their shares more attractive to investors.\nFor most companies, dividend payments act as a token reward to shareholders for their investment. However, oil companies are particularly adept at dishing out these token rewards, and Big Oil sports some of the most impressive yields in the business.\nExxonMobil currently sports a 6.60% dividend yield (Fwd); Chevron yields 5.68%, BP 5.56%, Shell 5.01%, while MPLX LP (NYSE:MPLX) checks in with 10.01% fwd yield.\nMeanwhile, share buybacks are designed to boost a company's earnings, which eventually reflects in its share price.\nHowever, Hipple says that whereas a 10% yield can act as a powerful magnet for the average income investor, savvy, long-term investors are not falling for it because they view oil and gas companies as dividend traps with a sell-by date that is moving closer by the day.\n\"Once institutional investors determine that demand has peaked--which likely has already happened--they will abandon the sector permanently. Many already have, based on the stock performance of the sector over the past several years.\"\nStranded assets\nHipple said that savvy long-term investors will continue to shy away from oil and gas majors \"unless and until\" they fully acknowledge the climate crisis due to the very real risk of stranded assets.\n\"These investors understand that the oil majors are still investing tens of billions in unnecessary oil and gas infrastructure, ignoring the IEA findings that no additional infrastructure is possible to meet a 1.5 [degrees Celsius] scenario. These investments are likely to become stranded assets, and investors don't want to be left holding the bag.\"\nShe certainly has a valid point here.\nLast week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change delivered its starkest warning yet about the deepening climate emergency, saying a key temperature limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius could be broken in just over a decade in the absence of immediate, rapid, and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.\nU.N. Secretary-General, António Guterres, has described the report's findings as a \"code red for humanity,\" saying they \"must sound a death knell\" for fossil fuels.\nTrue, U.S. Shale companies are exercising a lot more capital discipline than they have in the past. Shale drillers have a history of matching their capital spending to the strength of oil and gas prices; However, Big Oil is ditching the old playbook this time around. Rystad Energy says that whereas hydrocarbon sales, cash from operations and EBITDA for tight oil producers are all likely to test new record highs if WTI averages at least $60 per barrel this year, capital expenditure will only see muted growth as many producers remain committed to maintaining operational discipline.\nHowever, the lion's share of these investments is still flowing towards developing new oil and gas assets, with a minuscule fraction going towards sustainable energy.\nHipple is hardly alone in her dim view of legacy oil and gas companies.\n\"We frankly just don't think these are very good businesses. With the oil companies, we still just don't think they represent good long-term businesses. They don't generate consistent returns on capital or cash flow, albeit at the moment they look to be in a pretty good place,\" David Moss, head of European equities at BMO Global Asset Management, has told CNBC.\nMoss, in particular, faults European energy majors which are currently generating \"very strong\" cash flows amid a sustained rebound in oil prices but many are choosing to keep a tight lid on spending rather than invest in sustainable energy.\nIt appears that Wall Street is now doing a 180 and increasingly turning bearish on oil and gas.\nIn a recent report, Standard Chartered says Wall Street is plain wrong in its expectations of high oil prices because \"...a significant amount of money has already entered the market in the Wall Street-generated belief (mistaken according to our analysis) that the balances are much tighter and justify USD 80-100/bbl.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BP":0.9,"COP":0.9,"CVX":0.9,"EQNR":0.9,"MRO":0.9,"RDS.A":0.9,"XOM":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":519,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":832135917,"gmtCreate":1629597692539,"gmtModify":1633683884362,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"alright","listText":"alright","text":"alright","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/832135917","repostId":"2161149745","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":408,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":836408216,"gmtCreate":1629511562635,"gmtModify":1633684348788,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/836408216","repostId":"2161149745","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":809,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":831507766,"gmtCreate":1629333197755,"gmtModify":1633685642723,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/831507766","repostId":"1124136011","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":413,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":165816140,"gmtCreate":1624115148680,"gmtModify":1634010574472,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"cool","listText":"cool","text":"cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":40,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/165816140","repostId":"2144779706","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":436,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165784527,"gmtCreate":1624157960869,"gmtModify":1634010093785,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":24,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/165784527","repostId":"1181667218","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":214,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":164720879,"gmtCreate":1624236788991,"gmtModify":1634009168813,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"really","listText":"really","text":"really","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":16,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/164720879","repostId":"1113742137","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1113742137","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624024191,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1113742137?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 Sachs's efforts to help hedge funds and other big institutional clients wager onbitcoinhave taken a step forward.\nThe bank has begun trading bitcoin futures withGalaxy Digital, the crypto investment firm founded byMike Novogratz, CNBC has exclusively learned.\nThe trades represent the first time that Goldman has used a digital assets firm as a counterparty since the investment bank set up its cryptocurrency desk last month, according toDamien Vanderwilt, co-president of Galaxy and head of its global markets division.\nThe moves by Goldman, the preeminent global investment bank, may reverberate on Wall Street and beyond as banksincreasingly face pressurefrom clients who want exposure to bitcoin. By being the first major U.S. bank to begin trading cryptocurrency, Goldman is essentially giving other banks cover to begin doing so as well, said Vanderwilt, a former Goldman partner whojoinedGalaxy last year.\n\"There's a whole dynamic with the major banks that I've seen time and time again: safety in numbers,\" Vanderwilt said this week in an interview. \"Once one bank is out there doing this, the other banks will have [fear of missing out] and they'll get on-boarded because their clients have been asking for it.\"\nGalaxy was scheduled to announce Friday that it will serve as Goldman's \"liquidity provider\" – Wall Street parlance for a company that provides quotes for buy and sell orders – onCME Groupbitcoin futures. Last month, in a memofirst reportedby CNBC, Goldman said it would sign on \"new liquidity providers to help us in expanding our offering.\"\n\"Our goal is to equip our clients with best-execution pricing and secure access to the assets they want to trade,\" Max Minton, head of digital assets for Goldman's Asia-Pacific region, said in a statement. \"In 2021, this now includes crypto, and we are pleased to have found a partner with a broad range of liquidity venues and differentiated derivatives capabilities spanning the cryptocurrency ecosystem.\"\nGoldman is leaning on Galaxy for access to the crypto world because the highly regulated banking industry can't handle bitcoin directly, according to Vanderwilt.\nBut nothing prevents banks from dealing in financial wagers tied to the price of the underlying coins, and so that is where Wall Street is starting its crypto journey. There are parallels in the commodities realm, in which banks trade exposure to hogs or corn without owning the physical asset, he said.\nGalaxy, whose management ranks arestockedwith ex-Goldman executives familiar with running regulated businesses, positions itself as a bridge for financial companies and crypto venues. The firm, whose shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, will likely offer shares in the U.S. this year.\nIt's a step toward the vision that Vanderwilt and the other former Goldman executives have for the development of bitcoin's market infrastructure. As more banks allow clients including hedge funds, pensions, family offices and sovereign wealth funds to trade bitcoin, the depth and breadth of the market improves, which ultimately should lower bitcoin's famous volatility, he said.\n\"You're moving the market participants from being north of 90% retail, a huge chunk of which have access toridiculous amountsof leverage, into an institutional community, who have proper, tried-and-tested rules and regulations about leverage, asset-liability mismatch and risk,\" Vanderwilt said. \"The more activity that moves into the institutional community, the less volatility there will be.\"\nBanks will be able to offer clients ways to wager on bitcoin using derivatives, taking a page from the world of established finance, he said. That includes arbitrage bets related to the price gap between CME bitcoin futures and bitcoin itself, relative value trades between bitcoin and ethereum, and the creation of bitcoin structured notes.\nGoldman's steps in cryptocurrency trading are happening despite sustained skepticism toward bitcoin from other parts of the firm. Most notably, the bank'schief investment officerfor wealth management has called bitcoin abubblethat isn't appropriate for investors.\nBut if enough trading clients ask for a product, investment banks are obliged to provide it, a dynamic that Vanderwilt has seen in other nascent markets around the world during his two decades at Goldman.\n\"If the phone rings enough times and clients are trying to get exposure, you eventually figure out how to do it for them safely, understanding that your role in the world is to intermediate exposure safely, not to act as a fiduciary,\" he said.\nThe milestone brings Vanderwilt full circle with his former life. In 2017, as a senior Goldman trading executive, he was tasked with helping start thebank's first effortto trade bitcoin futures, a plan that was later shelved. Now he's helping make it happen from his position at Galaxy.\n\"There's a lot of irony, I smile about it a lot,\" Vanderwilt said. \"But I'm really happy, it's a happy full circle.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GS":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":428,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":884797872,"gmtCreate":1631931894696,"gmtModify":1632805255343,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":15,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/884797872","repostId":"1171558890","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1171558890","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1631921912,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1171558890?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-18 07:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US IPO Week Ahead: Software, consumer products, and payment tech lead a diverse 14 IPO week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1171558890","media":"renaissancecap...","summary":"Summer may be over, but the IPO market is just heating up as 14 IPOs are slated to raise $5.3 billio","content":"
Summer may be over, but the IPO market is just heating up as 14 IPOs are slated to raise $5.3 billion in the week ahead. fall","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129952039","media":"Reuters","summary":"(Reuters) - Wall Street’s main indexes closed lower on Wednesday after minutes from an April Federal","content":"
(Reuters) - Wall Street’s main indexes closed lower on Wednesday after minutes from an April Federal Reserve meeting showed participants agreed the U.S. economy remained far from the central bank’s goals, with some considering discussions on tapering its bond buying program.

The S&P 500 added to losses after the release of the minutes revealed a number of Fed policymakers thought that if the economy continued rapid progress, it would become appropriate “at some point” in upcoming meetings to begin discussing a tapering of the Fed’s monthly purchases of government bonds, a policy designed to keep long-term interest rates low.

“There continues to be a view and a perspective from the participants, as well as the Fed staff that these inflationary pressures that are beginning to become evident will remain transitory in their view and will likely recede as we transition into 2022,” said Bill Northey, senior investment director at U.S. Bank Wealth Management in Minneapolis.

Strong inflation readings and signs of a worker shortage in recent weeks have fueled fears and roiled stock markets despite reassurances from Fed officials that the rise in prices would be temporary.

All three main indexes hit their session lows in morning trade after opening sharply lower, then partially recovered before the release of the Fed minutes pressured them anew.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 164.62 points, or 0.48%, to 33,896.04, the S&P 500 lost 12.15 points, or 0.29%, to 4,115.68 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.90 points, or 0.03%, to 13,299.74.

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.70 billion shares, compared with the 10.60 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.

Contributing to a risk-off mood on Wednesday, Bitcoin and ether plunged in the wake of China’s move to ban financial and payment institutions from providing cryptocurrency services.

The two main digital currencies fell as much as 30% and 45%, respectively, but they significantly stemmed their losses in afternoon trading after two of their biggest backers -- Tesla Inc chief Elon Musk and Ark Invest’s chief executive officer Cathie Wood -- reiterated their support for bitcoin.

Crypto-exchange operator Coinbase Global ,miners Riot Blockchain and Marathon Digital Holdings saw their shares sharply decline on Wednesday.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 2.15-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.71-to-1 ratio favored decliners.

The S&P 500 posted 3 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 34 new highs and 49 new lows.

Financial Report

<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/NW/1160173685\" - Wall Street’s main indexes closed lower on Wednesday after minutes from an April Federal Reserve meeting showed participants agreed the U.S. economy remained far from the central bank’s goals, with some considering discussions on tapering its bond buying program. The S&P 500 added to losses after the release of the minutes revealed a number of Fed policymakers thought that if the economy continued rapid progress, it would become appropriate “at some point” in upcoming meetings to begin discussing a tapering of the Fed’s monthly purchases of government bonds, a policy designed to keep long-term interest rates low.“There continues to be a view and a perspective from the participants, as well as the Fed staff that these inflationary pressures that are beginning to become evident will remain transitory in their view and will likely recede as we transition into 2022,” said Bill Northey, senior investment director at U.S. Bank Wealth Management in Minneapolis.Strong inflation readings and signs of a worker shortage in recent weeks have fueled fears and roiled stock markets despite reassurances from Fed officials that the rise in prices would be temporary. All three main indexes hit their session lows in morning trade after opening sharply lower, then partially recovered before the release of the Fed minutes pressured them anew. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 164.62 points, or 0.48%, to 33,896.04, the S&P 500 lost 12.15 points, or 0.29%, to 4,115.68 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.90 points, or 0.03%, to 13,299.74.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.70 billion shares, compared with the 10.60 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.Contributing to a risk-off mood on Wednesday, Bitcoin and ether plunged in the wake of China’s move to ban financial and payment institutions from providing cryptocurrency services. The two main digital currencies fell as much as 30% and 45%, respectively, but they significantly stemmed their losses in afternoon trading after two of their biggest backers -- Tesla Inc chief Elon Musk and Ark Invest’s chief executive officer Cathie Wood -- reiterated their support for bitcoin.Crypto-exchange operator Coinbase Global ,miners Riot Blockchain and Marathon Digital Holdings saw their shares sharply decline on Wednesday.Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 2.15-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.71-to-1 ratio favored decliners. The S&P 500 posted 3 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 34 new highs and 49 new lows.Financial But when I began the previous article on May 11, it was at $29.48. In effect, it has actually fallen over 5%.
\n
This is what I predicted in my article, and what I expect will continue to happen. According to its September 2020 investor presentation, the company won’t even start to generate revenue until 2024. That is over two years from now, at which point QuantumScape will only make $14 million.
\n
Moreover, the revenue will not even begin to ramp up until 2026, when it is forecast to reach $275 million. The cash flow burn rate will be significant.
\n
Here is what I previously wrote about QuantumScape’s financials:
\n
\n “The page 28 slide shows that there is a $3.3 billion cash burn funding hole from 2022 through to 2027. This is seen on the second to last line item showing that free cash flow (FCF) losses, or cash burn, will be $184 million by the end of 2021.”“…This works out to an expected $1.4 billion in cash burn losses over the next four-plus years to 2025.”\n
\n
QuantumScape Needs To Change
\n
My conclusion is that this solid-state battery company is nothing more than a research organization. Nothing about the company indicates that it intends to commercialize any of its technology over the next several years. This is despite the fact that the company probably has enough liquidity to cover its cash burn losses.
\n
That means that QS stock does not deserve its present vaunted $11.33 billion market value. It needs to change its present business model and bring forward significant revenue generation.
\n
I have been a strategy consultant for several companies, so let me put on my strategy analyst hat. Why can’t the company start selling solid-state battery power units right now? They don’t have to be engineered to be part of an electric vehicle(EV.) This is what the company is trying to do with Volkswagen(OTCMKTS:VWAGY).
\n
Its technology must be advanced enough to have some practical application. For example,Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) sells its Powerwall units and also has a larger energy generation division. There is not much engineering involved here. It is mostly just selling batteries. So why can’t QuantumScape do something similar? At least that can start revenue generation before 2024.
\n
And if that is not feasible now, how soon could it be? Alternatively, what about licensing technology on a limited basis? Whatever their method, QuantumScape needs to find some way to move revenue forward on a substantial basis.
\n
And if none of these things make sense, just resort to the Wall Street favorite: mergers and acquisitions (M&A.) Buy an EV or battery company that has revenue and needs QuantumScape’s technology. At least that way the company can be valued on forward cash flow.
\n
What To Do With QS Stock
\n
My concern is that QS stock could end up treading water for several years. It could rise or fall plus or minus 20% over that period, but nothing significant would happen until the market changes its mind. Once it becomes clear that QuantumScape can generate significant amounts of revenue, QS stock might end up tracking higher.
\n
The only other thing that could change QS stock’s price would be a potential takeover by Volkswagen or another major EV manufacturer.
\n
Consider this: Volkswagen has a market value north of $180 billion. So even if it paid a 30% premium to buy QuantumScape, it would cost just $14.73 billion. That represents just 8.18% of its $180 billion market value.
\n
This is nothing for Volkswagen if it pays for QuantumScape in stock. In that case, QS stock could be a winner. But don’t count on it. Hopefully, the company will come up with a change of plan in case M&A doesn’t work out.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
QuantumScape Needs to Change its Business Model to See Stock Gains
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nQuantumScape Needs to Change its Business Model to See Stock Gains\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-15 10:02 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
QS stock will tread water unless the company can move revenue forward\nIn the past month,QuantumScape(NYSE:QS) stock has gone basically nowhere. When I last wrote about QS stock on May 12, it closed at ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/06/qs-stock-needs-to-change-its-business-model-to-see-stock-gains/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1107050653","content_text":"QS stock will tread water unless the company can move revenue forward\nIn the past month,QuantumScape(NYSE:QS) stock has gone basically nowhere. When I last wrote about QS stock on May 12, it closed at $27.30, but as of June 11, it was at $27.90. But when I began the previous article on May 11, it was at $29.48. In effect, it has actually fallen over 5%.\nThis is what I predicted in my article, and what I expect will continue to happen. According to its September 2020 investor presentation, the company won’t even start to generate revenue until 2024. That is over two years from now, at which point QuantumScape will only make $14 million.\nMoreover, the revenue will not even begin to ramp up until 2026, when it is forecast to reach $275 million. The cash flow burn rate will be significant.\nHere is what I previously wrote about QuantumScape’s financials:\n\n “The page 28 slide shows that there is a $3.3 billion cash burn funding hole from 2022 through to 2027. This is seen on the second to last line item showing that free cash flow (FCF) losses, or cash burn, will be $184 million by the end of 2021.”“…This works out to an expected $1.4 billion in cash burn losses over the next four-plus years to 2025.”\n\nQuantumScape Needs To Change\nMy conclusion is that this solid-state battery company is nothing more than a research organization. Nothing about the company indicates that it intends to commercialize any of its technology over the next several years. This is despite the fact that the company probably has enough liquidity to cover its cash burn losses.\nThat means that QS stock does not deserve its present vaunted $11.33 billion market value. It needs to change its present business model and bring forward significant revenue generation.\nI have been a strategy consultant for several companies, so let me put on my strategy analyst hat. Why can’t the company start selling solid-state battery power units right now? They don’t have to be engineered to be part of an electric vehicle(EV.) This is what the company is trying to do with Volkswagen(OTCMKTS:VWAGY).\nIts technology must be advanced enough to have some practical application. Alternatively, what about licensing technology on a limited basis? Whatever their method, QuantumScape needs to find some way to move revenue forward on a substantial basis.\nAnd if none of these things make sense, just resort to the Wall Street favorite: mergers and acquisitions (M&A.) Buy an EV or battery company that has revenue and needs QuantumScape’s technology. At least that way the company can be valued on forward cash flow.\nWhat To Do With QS Stock\nMy concern is that QS stock could end up treading water for several years. It could rise or fall plus or minus 20% over that period, but nothing significant would happen until the market changes its mind. Once it becomes clear that QuantumScape can generate significant amounts of revenue, QS stock might end up tracking higher.\nThe only other thing that could change QS stock’s price would be a potential takeover by Volkswagen or another major EV manufacturer.\nConsider this: Volkswagen has a market value north of $180 billion. the S&P 500 gained 0.74 points, or 0.02%, at 4,227.26; and the Nasdaq Composite added 43.19 points, or 0.31%, at 13,924.91.Of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, consumer discretionary enjoyed the biggest percentage gain, and utilities suffered the largest loss.Sales of Tesla Inc’s China-made electric cars jumped in May by 29%, marking a 177% year-on-year increase, according to the China Passenger Car Association. The stock erased initial gains on the news to close down 0.3%.Boeing Co shares were boosted by Southwest Airlines’ announcement that it had ordered 34 new 737 MAX aircraft, but the planemaker’s shares pared gains to end the session flat.GameStop, the company most closely associated with the Reddit-driven short squeeze phenomenon, is expected to report quarterly results after markets close on Wednesday.Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the NYSE by a 1.74-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.66-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted 54 new 52-week highs and one new low; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 172 new highs and 16 new lows.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 11.82 billion shares, compared with the 10.75 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9,"CLOV":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":358,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":116062470,"gmtCreate":1622766586390,"gmtModify":1634098278338,"author":{"id":"3581888768537623","authorId":"3581888768537623","name":"AhGong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c939d5ea654b2b9a3fb6ee4f5e99b4","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581888768537623","authorIdStr":"3581888768537623"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"like and comment","listText":"like and comment","text":"like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/116062470","repostId":"1103361405","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1103361405","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1622765944,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1103361405?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-04 08:19","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"AMC ends wild trading day down 18% after share sale","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103361405","media":"CNBC","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nAMC Entertainment shares ended a rollercoaster trading session down 18% on Thursday afte","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nAMC Entertainment shares ended a rollercoaster trading session down 18% on Thursday after the company announced a stock sale.\nThe stock price dropped as low as $37.66 during the session ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
