POINTS\n\nElon Musk said Tesla had halted purchases of vehicles with bitcoin due to concerns over the “rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for bitcoin mining.”\nThe cryptocurrency uses more energy than entire countries such as Sweden and Malaysia, according to researchers.\nTreasury Secretary Janet Yellen has also warned about bitcoin’s environmental impact, saying it uses a “staggering” amount of power.\n\nElon Musk’sdecision to stopTeslafrom acceptingbitcoinas payment has led to fresh scrutiny of the cryptocurrency’s environmental impact.\nMusksaid Wednesdaythat Tesla had halted purchases of its vehicles with bitcoin due to concerns over the “rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for bitcoin mining.”\nHe alluded to data from researchers at Cambridge University which shows bitcoin’s electricity usage spiking this year.\nTesla won't sell its bitcoin — the automaker is sitting on$2.5 billion worthof the digital coin — and Musk said it intends to resume transactions with bitcoin once mining \"transitions to more sustainable energy.\"\n\"We are also looking at other cryptocurrencies that use <1% of Bitcoin's energy/transaction,\" Musk said.\nMusk's comments roiled cryptocurrency markets, which haveshed as much as $365.85 billion in valuesince his tweet.\nWhy is Musk worried?\nCritics ofbitcoinhave long been wary of its impact on the environment. The cryptocurrency uses more energy than entire countries such as Sweden and Malaysia, according to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index.\nTo understand why bitcoin is so energy-intensive, you have to look at its underlying technology, the blockchain.\nBitcoin's public ledger is decentralized, meaning it isn't controlled by any single authority. It's constantly being updated by a network of computers around the world.\nSo-called miners run purpose-built computers to solve complex math puzzles in order to make a transaction go through. This is the only way to mint new bitcoins.\nMiners do not run this operation for free. They have to shell out huge sums on specialized equipment. A key incentive of bitcoin's model, known as \"proof of work,\" is the promise of being rewarded in some bitcoin if you manage to solve its complex hashing algorithm.\nIt's worth noting thatdogecoin, which has risen wildly in price lately on the back of support from Musk, also uses a proof-of-work mechanism.\nCarol Alexander, a professor at the University of Sussex Business School, explains that bitcoin's mining \"difficulty\" — a measure of the computational effort it takes to mine bitcoin — has been going \"up and up\" over the last three years.\n\"More and more electricity is being used,\" Alexander told CNBC. \"That means that the network difficulty will also be going up (and) more miners are coming in because the hash rate's going up.\"\nBitcoin's price is up almost 70% so far this year. As it goes up in price, the revenue to miners also increases, incentivizing more participants to mine the cryptocurrency.\nMeanwhile, Musk isn't the only one who's worried about the environmental impact of bitcoin. In February, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that the digital coin is \"extremely inefficient\" for making transactions and uses a \"staggering\" amount of power.\nDoes bitcoin actually harm the environment?\nIt's complicated. On the one hand, bitcoin's network uses anunfathomable amount of energy. Much of the mining of bitcoin is concentrated in China, whose economy is still heavily reliant on coal.\nLast month, a coal mine in the Xinjiang region flooded and shut down. This took nearly a quarter of bitcoin's hash rate — or computing power — offline, according to crypto industry publicationCoinDesk.\nIn March, China's Inner Mongolia region said it wouldshut down cryptocurrency mining operationsin the region due to concerns over energy consumption.\nOn the other side of the debate, bitcoin investors have attempted to push back on the narrative that it's harmful for the environment.\nWhile it's difficult to determine the energy mix that powers bitcoin, some in the crypto industry say miners are incentivized to use renewables as it's getting cheaper to produce them. In China, the province of Sichuan is known to attract miners due to its cheap electricity and rich hydropower resources.\nLast month,Jack Dorsey'sfintech companySquareand Cathie Wood's Ark Invest put out amemoclaiming that bitcoin will actually drive renewable energy innovation. However, critics said they had avested interestin doing so.\nAlexander said the debate around bitcoin's environmental impact was misguided as most transactions with the digital asset aren't happening on the blockchain.\n\"Almost all the trading is not done on the blockchain,\" she said. \"It's done on secondary markets, centralized exchanges. They're not even recorded on the blockchain.\"\nESG concerns\nRegardless of whether bitcoin is actually a polluter or not, the negative connotations around its energy consumption have worried investors conscious of companies' ethical and environmental responsibilities.\nESG, or environmental, social and corporate governance, has become agrowing trendin financial markets, with portfolio managers increasingly incorporating sustainable investments into their strategies.\nSome Tesla shareholders may be worried that the company is betting big on bitcoin while also claiming to be a green energy company.\n\"Bitcoin backers will be wondering where this leaves the future of the cryptocurrency,\" Laith Khalaf, a financial analyst at investment firm AJ Bell, said in a note Thursday.\n\"Environmental matters are an incredibly sensitive subject right now, and Tesla's move might serve as a wake-up call to businesses and consumers using Bitcoin, who hadn't hitherto considered its carbon footprint,\" Khalaf added.\n\"Tesla's decision certainly puts pressure on other big companies who accept Bitcoin to review their practices, because boardrooms will now be wary about getting it in the ear from ESG investors on the shareholder register.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1727,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":106506768,"gmtCreate":1620130463754,"gmtModify":1631888683518,"author":{"id":"3582667631352534","authorId":"3582667631352534","name":"Pbrz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f575448d364119faae878fb78f07c33c","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582667631352534","authorIdStr":"3582667631352534"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Power to the people ","listText":"Power to the people ","text":"Power to the people","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/106506768","repostId":"1167630680","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1167630680","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620122991,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1167630680?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-04 18:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street can't keep up with the market: Morning Brief","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1167630680","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"Price targets and economic forecasts fall behind\nReaders of the Morning Brief knowinvestor expectati","content":"
Price targets and economic forecasts fall behind
\n
Readers of the Morning Brief knowinvestor expectations were highahead of earnings season, thatcompanies have topped expectations at a record rate, and that theeconomy is firing on all cylinders.
\n
And these events have pushed Wall Street strategists back into another theme we've written about in this space for the last few months —trying to keep up with the market.
\n
Late last week, Credit Suisse chief equity strategist Jonathan Golub raised his price target for the S&P 500 to 4,600 from 4,300, writing that a \"red hot economy\" is fueling corporate earnings beats.
\n
\"Consensus GDP forecasts call for 6.3% real (8.6% nominal) growth in 2021, the fastest pace in nearly 4 decades,\" Golub writes. \"Every 1% improvement in nominal GDP translates to a 2.5%-3% gain in S&P 500 revenues, and additional improvement in margins, as fixed expenses are amortized over greater sales volumes. While companies might bemoan higher input costs, history shows that rising commodity prices lead to margin upside as companies pass on additional costs.\" (Emphasis ours.)
\n
Golub also cites operating leverage —which we covered earlier this year— both as a driver for corporate profits this cycle and a factor still under-appreciated by investors. Most simply stated, operating leverage is the ability for companies to earn incremental profits on higher sales. And so if, for example, every dollar of sales cost a company 50 cents, a firm exhibiting high operating leverage would see lower costs on additional revenue, resulting in its bottom line growing at a faster rate than sales.
\n
At the beginning of economic cycles, Golub notes that higher-than-anticipated operating leverage results in consistent upward revisions to earnings forecasts for potentially two or three years. While companies might bemoan higher input costs, history shows that rising commodity prices lead to margin upside as companies pass on additional costs.\" (Emphasis ours.)\nGolub also cites operating leverage —which we covered earlier this year— both as a driver for corporate profits this cycle and a factor still under-appreciated by investors. Most simply stated, operating leverage is the ability for companies to earn incremental profits on higher sales. And so if, for example, every dollar of sales cost a company 50 cents, a firm exhibiting high operating leverage would see lower costs on additional revenue, resulting in its bottom line growing at a faster rate than sales.\nAt the beginning of economic cycles, Golub notes that higher-than-anticipated operating leverage results in consistent upward revisions to earnings forecasts for potentially two or three years. Seen this way, the strong earnings cycle coming out of the pandemic-induced recession is only just getting started.\nAnd while Golub's work certainly frames the economy's strength as an upward driver for markets, we'd be remissnot to mention recent work covered by the Morning Brieffrom Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank suggesting that economic growth is peaking, a potentially troubling sign for stocks.\nMoreover, while faster-than-expected economic growth is a good problem to have, it seems some parts of the economy are reaching their limits. A dynamic that seems likely to either slow growth, drive inflation, or both. On Monday, thelatest data on manufacturing activityfrom the Institute for Supply Management showed the manufacturing sector grew at a slower pace than expected in April as lead times increased, prices rose, and labor and commodity shortages persisted.\n\"Recent record-long lead times, wide-scale shortages of critical basic materials, rising commodities prices and difficulties in transporting products are continuing to affect all segments of the manufacturing economy,\" said Tim Fiore, chair of Institute for Supply Management manufacturing business survey. \"Worker absenteeism, short-term shutdowns due to part shortages, and difficulties in filling open positions continue to be issues that limit manufacturing-growth potential.\"\nWhat to watch today\nEconomy\n\n8:30 a.m. ET:Trade U.S. theaters at limited capacity by the end of March.
\n
AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. shares dipped in after-hours trading Tuesday, after the theater chain disclosed plans to sell millions of fresh shares while revealing early returns from reopened theaters, but said it would not ask shareholders to approve the potential sale of 500 million more shares.
\n
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said it hopes to sell up to 43 million shares in an at-the-market offering. The company said it would use the proceeds for \"general corporate purposes, which may include working capital, the repayment, refinancing, redemption or repurchase of existing indebtedness, capital expenditures and other investments.\"
\n
However, the company also disclosed that the board of directors decided not to ask shareholders for permission to sell up to 500 million additional shares at its upcoming annual shareholders meeting, a proposal that had caused some upheaval with analysts and investors. Chief Executive Adam Aron had said last week that if investors approved the plan, he would promise not to sell any of those shares in 2021; the 43 million shares that will be sold were approved by shareholders years ago.
\n
AMC also disclosed preliminary financial results for its quarter ended March 31, as the chain began to reopen more theaters as COVID-19 restrictions eased. AMC said that it expects to lose $567.2 million to $572.2 million on revenue of approximately $148.3 million. In the same quarter a year ago, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to shutter theaters worldwide, AMC reported a loss of more than $2 billion -- mostly due to noncash impairment charges from revaluing its properties -- on sales of $941.5 million.
\n
Analysts on average were expecting AMC to lose $514.9 million on sales of $158.4 million in the first quarter, according to FactSet.
\n
AMC has raised more than $2 billion in share sales, debt offerings and other moves since last fall, as theater closures walloped its finances. In the podcast appearance last week in which he promised not to sell any of the 500 million shares if investors approved that plan, Aron noted the authorization to sell 43 million shares was still active, but said \"we haven't made any decisions yet.\"
\n
\"If we need to raise some cash in the short term, remember we already have 43 million shares that are out there that were authorized in the year 2013 that we could use if we wish to raise some cash, if we decide that's a good idea,\" Aron said in an interview that AMC also disclosed in an SEC filing . \"We have made no decisions yet. We are thinking about it, but we haven't made any decisions yet.\"
\n
AMC also disclosed in Tuesday's filing that as of March 31, 585 of its 590 U.S. theaters had reopened at limited capacity of 15% to 60%, and 97 of 354 international theaters it leases or runs in partnership with others had reopened at 25% to 50% capacity.
\n
Shares dipped between 1% and 2% in the extended session following the disclosure Tuesday evening. AMC's stock has not suffered as much as its finances in recent months, as it has been targeted by individual investors who have gathered on Reddit to collectively purchase options and shares in bedraggled stocks like videogame retailer GameStop Corp. $(GME)$ and former cellphone giants Nokia Corp. (NOKIA.HE) and BlackBerry Ltd. (BB.T).
\n
AMC stock has gained more than 300% in the past six months, as the S&P 500 index has increased 23.5%. The company's market capitalization was higher than $5 billion at Tuesday's closing price of $11.46.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The company said it would use the proceeds for \"general corporate purposes, which may include working capital, the repayment, refinancing, redemption or repurchase of existing indebtedness, capital expenditures and other investments.\"\nHowever, the company also disclosed that the board of directors decided not to ask shareholders for permission to sell up to 500 million additional shares at its upcoming annual shareholders meeting, a proposal that had caused some upheaval with analysts and investors. Chief Executive Adam Aron had said last week that if investors approved the plan, he would promise not to sell any of those shares in 2021; the 43 million shares that will be sold were approved by shareholders years ago.\nAMC also disclosed preliminary financial results for its quarter ended March 31, as the chain began to reopen more theaters as COVID-19 restrictions eased. AMC said that it expects to lose $567.2 million to $572.2 million on revenue of approximately $148.3 million. In the same quarter a year ago, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to shutter theaters worldwide, AMC reported a loss of more than $2 billion -- mostly due to noncash impairment charges from revaluing its properties -- on sales of $941.5 million.\nAnalysts on average were expecting AMC to lose $514.9 million on sales of $158.4 million in the first quarter, according to FactSet.\nAMC has raised more than $2 billion in share sales, debt offerings and other moves since last fall, as theater closures walloped its finances. In the podcast appearance last week in which he promised not to sell any of the 500 million shares if investors approved that plan, Aron noted the authorization to sell 43 million shares was still active, but said \"we haven't made any decisions yet.\"\n\"If we need to raise some cash in the short term, remember we already have 43 million shares that are out there that were authorized in the year 2013 that we could use if we wish to raise some cash, if we decide that's a good idea,\" Aron said in an interview that AMC also disclosed in an SEC filing . \"We have made no decisions yet. We are thinking about it, but we haven't made any decisions yet.\"\nAMC also disclosed in Tuesday's filing that as of March 31, 585 of its 590 U.S. theaters had reopened at limited capacity of 15% to 60%, and 97 of 354 international theaters it leases or runs in partnership with others had reopened at 25% to 50% capacity.\nShares dipped between 1% and 2% in the extended session following the disclosure Tuesday evening. (BB.T).\nAMC stock has gained more than 300% in the past six months, as the S&P 500 index has increased 23.5%. The company's market capitalization was higher than $5 billion at Tuesday's closing price of $11.46.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1122,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":100963877,"gmtCreate":1619574827399,"gmtModify":1634211638437,"author":{"id":"3582667631352534","authorId":"3582667631352534","name":"Pbrz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f575448d364119faae878fb78f07c33c","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582667631352534","authorIdStr":"3582667631352534"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice ","listText":"Nice ","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/100963877","repostId":"1105038014","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1105038014","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619574110,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1105038014?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-28 09:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Cheap Stocks Under $15 to Buy Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1105038014","media":"investorplace","summary":"Cheap stocks are always popular and with good reason. Not everyone has a huge investment account and","content":"
Cheap stocks are always popular and with good reason. Not everyone has a huge investment account and cheap stocks let you spread your money around. Instead of spending everything on one or two shares of a tech giant or anelectric car company, you can take that same amount of cash and diversify.

Doing so makes investing more interesting. It also protects you from a catastrophic loss should one of those expensive stocks suddenly drop in value.

I’ve put together a list of seven cheap stocks that are well worth considering for your portfolio. They cover a diverse range of industries from tech to mining, so there’s something here for everyone.

Adecoagro SA(NYSE:AGRO)

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional(NYSE:SID)

Himax Technologies, Inc.(NASDAQ:HIMX)

National Energy Services Reunited Corp(NASDAQ:NESR)

United Microelectronics Corp(NYSE:UMC)

Wipro Limited(NYSE:WIT)

Workhorse Group Inc(NASDAQ:WKHS)

Making these choice even more compelling is that fact that each earns an ‘A’ rating inPortfolio Grader. Just because it’s a cheap stock doesn’t have to mean it isrisky or lacking in growth potential.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: Adecoagro (AGRO)Source: Shutterstock

Adecoagro is a South American holding company with a focus on agribusiness. AGRO is involved in a range of related ventures including farming of food staples like rice and sugar, dairy products and the production of ethanol from sugarcane.

Several trends spell long-term growth for AGRO stock. Global food prices have been on the rise, and that trend isprojected to continue. That’s good news for a company like Adecoagro that farms grains and other food products. In addition, the push to reduce carbon emissions is going to have an ongoing payoff for Adecoagro’s ethanol business. It will take decades before global vehicle fleets are converted to EVs.

Butethanol produces 46% less greenhouse gases than gasoline. That means Ethanol is going to be increasingly important as a way to cut vehicle emissions during the long transition to EVs.

AGRO stock is currently trading for $8.80 and has posted 118% growth over the past 12 months.

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (SID)Source: Shutterstock

Companhia Siderurgica Nacional is a company that’s poised to take full advantage of a post-pandemic economic boom. Brazil’s second-largest steel producer is also a large cement producer. One of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s strengths is its vertical integration. The company mines raw materials, refines them in its own processing facilities, produces the electricity for those plants and has a stake in the ownership of railway and port facilities used to distribute its products.

SID stock currently trades at $8.86, after posting impressive growth of 620% over the past 12 months. With China and other countriespushing demand for steeland cement, SID is one of those cheap stocks that is positioned for continued growth.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: Himax Technologies (HIMX)Source: Shutterstock

Himax Technologies is one of my favorite cheap stocks in the tech sector. This Taiwanese company is a fabless semiconductor producer, with a focus on image processing technology. Its chips are in high demand for game consoles, TV’s, laptops, cars, cameras and basically any product that’s equipped with a display.

That’s pretty mucheverythingthese days. That demand isn’t going anywhere but up.

The biggest risk right now for Himax is that as a fabless semiconductor company, it contracts its designs out to other companies for production. We all know about the shortages currently affecting global semiconductor producers. That has impacted Himax as well.

Despite not being able to meet demand, HIMX stock is up 325% over the past 12 months.CNN Moneyanalysts have a median price target of $17.50, so I’m not the only one who thinks there’s upside for HIMX. That’s only going to increase as the global chip shortage eventually eases.

National Energy Services Reunited (NESR)Source: VLADJ55 via Shutterstock

Fossil fuel stocks are becoming cheap, but they are far more likely to be on a “stocks to sell” list these days than a recommendation list. So what is NESR stock doing on this list?

True, National Energy Services Reunited is deeply involved in the fossil fuel industry. However, this is not an oil production company. Instead, NESR works with various oil and gas producers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions. It provides a wide range of production services to help the fossil fuel producers get the most out of their wells.

Zero-emissions electric and hydrogen energy may be the future, but the use of fossil fuels isn’t going to end tomorrow. They will be phased out over decades. In the meantime, producers will be avoiding the expense of developing new oil and gas fields, instead using technology to extract everything possible out of existing developments. That trend is going to benefit National Energy Services Reunited for years to come.

Currently trading just around the $12 level, NESR stock has gained 144% over the past 12 months.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: United Microelectronics(UMC)Source: Shutterstock

Himax Technologies is a chip maker facing shortages of its in-demand products due to its fabless approach. United Microelectronics is another Taiwanese chip company, but this one operates its own foundries. UMC is one of only a dozen global foundries that can make those chips fabless companies like Himax contract out. So this company is operating at full steam.

Naturally, UMC stock reflects the unprecedented demand. The company’srevenue grew 19.3% in 2020, despite the pandemic. Monthly sales have continued at or near double-digit YoY increases through 2021 as well. UMC shares were going for $2.61 at this time last year. Now trading around $11, that’s a 300%-plus return for investors over the past 12 months.

Cheap stocks don’t get much better than this.

Wipro (WIT)Source: Shutterstock

Wipro is an IT consulting and business process services company based in India. With so many companies forced to have employees work from home because of the pandemic, IT services companies like Wipro have been booking record-breaking quarters. The best in a decade.

That spending is expected to continue as companies keep up their IT spending to better prepare themselves for staff who may work from home permanently — and to enable seamless operation during future pandemic or extreme weather events.

In addition, the strong U.S. dollar has meant that Wipro’s considerable U.S. business is helping to boost revenue through favorable exchange rates as well. In fiscal 2020,the U.S. market accounted for 59.1%of Wipro’s revenue. WIT stock has rewarded investors with 140% growth over the past 12-months.

Cheap Stocks to Buy: Workhorse Group (WKHS)Source: Photo from WorkHorse.com

You may have seen Workhorse Group in the headlines lately, and not in a good way. WKHS stock plummeted 47% in a single day after the maker of commercial EV delivery vans lost out on a lucrative contract to replace the U.S. Postal Service’s fleet.

The loss sent investors running for the exits. However, as I’ve written previously,Workhorse Group’s loss is your gain. The USPS loss was a big one, but there are plenty of other big contracts coming up.

For example, the federal government operates a fleet of 645,000 vehicles. Thanks to President Joe Biden’s “Made In America” executive order, that fleet is going to be replaced by American-made EVs. Not everyone has a huge investment account and cheap stocks let you spread your money around. Instead of spending everything on one or two shares of a tech giant or anelectric car company, you can take that same amount of cash and diversify.Doing so makes investing more interesting. It also protects you from a catastrophic loss should one of those expensive stocks suddenly drop in value.I’ve put together a list of seven cheap stocks that are well worth considering for your portfolio. They cover a diverse range of industries from tech to mining, so there’s something here for everyone.Adecoagro SA(NYSE:AGRO)Companhia Siderurgica Nacional(NYSE:SID)Himax Technologies, Inc.(NASDAQ:HIMX)National Energy Services Reunited Corp(NASDAQ:NESR)United Microelectronics Corp(NYSE:UMC)Wipro Limited(NYSE:WIT)Workhorse Group Inc(NASDAQ:WKHS)Making these choice even more compelling is that fact that each earns an ‘A’ rating inPortfolio Grader. Just because it’s a cheap stock doesn’t have to mean it isrisky or lacking in growth potential.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Adecoagro (AGRO)Source: ShutterstockAdecoagro is a South American holding company with a focus on agribusiness. AGRO is involved in a range of related ventures including farming of food staples like rice and sugar, dairy products and the production of ethanol from sugarcane.Several trends spell long-term growth for AGRO stock. Global food prices have been on the rise, and that trend isprojected to continue. That’s good news for a company like Adecoagro that farms grains and other food products. In addition, the push to reduce carbon emissions is going to have an ongoing payoff for Adecoagro’s ethanol business. It will take decades before global vehicle fleets are converted to EVs.Butethanol produces 46% less greenhouse gases than gasoline. That means Ethanol is going to be increasingly important as a way to cut vehicle emissions during the long transition to EVs.AGRO stock is currently trading for $8.80 and has posted 118% growth over the past 12 months.Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (SID)Source: ShutterstockCompanhia Siderurgica Nacional is a company that’s poised to take full advantage of a post-pandemic economic boom. Brazil’s second-largest steel producer is also a large cement producer. One of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s strengths is its vertical integration. The company mines raw materials, refines them in its own processing facilities, produces the electricity for those plants and has a stake in the ownership of railway and port facilities used to distribute its products.SID stock currently trades at $8.86, after posting impressive growth of 620% over the past 12 months. With China and other countriespushing demand for steeland cement, SID is one of those cheap stocks that is positioned for continued growth.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Himax Technologies (HIMX)Source: ShutterstockHimax Technologies is one of my favorite cheap stocks in the tech sector. This Taiwanese company is a fabless semiconductor producer, with a focus on image processing technology. Its chips are in high demand for game consoles, TV’s, laptops, cars, cameras and basically any product that’s equipped with a display.That’s pretty mucheverythingthese days. That demand isn’t going anywhere but up.The biggest risk right now for Himax is that as a fabless semiconductor company, it contracts its designs out to other companies for production. We all know about the shortages currently affecting global semiconductor producers.That has impacted Himax as well.Despite not being able to meet demand, HIMX stock is up 325% over the past 12 months.CNN Moneyanalysts have a median price target of $17.50, so I’m not the only one who thinks there’s upside for HIMX. That’s only going to increase as the global chip shortage eventually eases.National Energy Services Reunited (NESR)Source: VLADJ55 via ShutterstockFossil fuel stocks are becoming cheap, but they are far more likely to be on a “stocks to sell” list these days than a recommendation list. So what is NESR stock doing on this list?True, National Energy Services Reunited is deeply involved in the fossil fuel industry. However, this is not an oil production company. Instead, NESR works with various oil and gas producers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions. It provides a wide range of production services to help the fossil fuel producers get the most out of their wells.Zero-emissions electric and hydrogen energy may be the future, but the use of fossil fuels isn’t going to end tomorrow. They will be phased out over decades. In the meantime, producers will be avoiding the expense of developing new oil and gas fields, instead using technology to extract everything possible out of existing developments. That trend is going to benefit National Energy Services Reunited for years to come.Currently trading just around the $12 level, NESR stock has gained 144% over the past 12 months.Cheap Stocks to Buy: United Microelectronics(UMC)Source: ShutterstockHimax Technologies is a chip maker facing shortages of its in-demand products due to its fabless approach. United Microelectronics is another Taiwanese chip company, but this one operates its own foundries. UMC is one of only a dozen global foundries that can make those chips fabless companies like Himax contract out. So this company is operating at full steam.Naturally, UMC stock reflects the unprecedented demand. The company’srevenue grew 19.3% in 2020, despite the pandemic. Monthly sales have continued at or near double-digit YoY increases through 2021 as well. UMC shares were going for $2.61 at this time last year. Now trading around $11, that’s a 300%-plus return for investors over the past 12 months.Cheap stocks don’t get much better than this.Wipro (WIT)Source: ShutterstockWipro is an IT consulting and business process services company based in India. With so many companies forced to have employees work from home because of the pandemic, IT services companies like Wipro have been booking record-breaking quarters.The best in a decade.That spending is expected to continue as companies keep up their IT spending to better prepare themselves for staff who may work from home permanently — and to enable seamless operation during future pandemic or extreme weather events.In addition, the strong U.S. dollar has meant that Wipro’s considerable U.S. business is helping to boost revenue through favorable exchange rates as well. In fiscal 2020,the U.S. market accounted for 59.1%of Wipro’s revenue. WIT stock has rewarded investors with 140% growth over the past 12-months.Cheap Stocks to Buy: Workhorse Group (WKHS)Source: Photo from WorkHorse.comYou may have seen Workhorse Group in the headlines lately, and not in a good way. WKHS stock plummeted 47% in a single day after the maker of commercial EV delivery vans lost out on a lucrative contract to replace the U.S. Postal Service’s fleet.The loss sent investors running for the exits. However, as I’ve written previously,Workhorse Group’s loss is your gain. The USPS loss was a big one, but there are plenty of other big contracts coming up.For example, the federal government operates a fleet of 645,000 vehicles. Thanks to President Joe Biden’s “Made In America” executive order, that fleet is going to be replaced by American-made EVs. That’s good news for Ohio-based Workhorse Group.In addition, the global market for electric delivery vehicles is set to explode. From 129,000 units delivered in 2020,commercial EV sales are projected to hit over 2 million units by 2028. I consider the wallop WKHS stock took in February to be a buying opportunity. With shares now trading around the $12.70 level — less than a third of their early February high — this is a great option among cheap stocks.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1129,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
