Here are two reasons why they may be right.
\n
Wall Street analysts continue to debate whether Apple stock is a buy as we head into 2022. Recently,I presented the bear argument that, if proven right, could foretell a drop of around 18% in the stock price.
\n
But investors seem to be siding with bulls at the moment, as AAPL shares continue to make fresh highs. Today, I talk about two key reasons recently presented by analysts suggesting that Apple stock could be a good bet for the new year.
\n
Figure 1: Apple's iPhone 13, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.
\n
iPhone: not all about the holiday
\n
The recent headlines have highlighted the expected performance of the iPhone in the current holiday period. Bloomberg hinted at a slowdown in demand, supported by alleged order cancellations with suppliers. The data point contradicted earlier Wall Street projections for an above-estimate volume of iPhone shipments in the current shopping season.
\n
But DigiTimes Taiwan has recently shifted the focus of attention to the longer term. According to the publication, Apple is looking to “[increase] iPhone shipments by 30% for the first half of next year with the larger goal of exceeding 300 million iPhone shipments in 2022.”
\n
If confirmed, this would represent massive YOY improvement, especially in the first few months of the year. Keep in mind (chart below) that the Cupertino company dropped the mic on iPhone sales in the early part of 2021, setting the bar very high for growth in 2022.
\n
Figure 2: iPhone revenue growth since F19.
\n
I would warn readers, however, not to rely too much on unofficial announcements about iPhone sales. Here are two reasons why they may be right.\nWall Street analysts continue to debate whether Apple stock is a buy as we head into 2022. Recently,I presented the bear argument that, if proven right, could foretell a drop of around 18% in the stock price.\nBut investors seem to be siding with bulls at the moment, as AAPL shares continue to make fresh highs. Today, I talk about two key reasons recently presented by analysts suggesting that Apple stock could be a good bet for the new year.\nFigure 1: Apple's iPhone 13, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.\niPhone: not all about the holiday\nThe recent headlines have highlighted the expected performance of the iPhone in the current holiday period. Bloomberg hinted at a slowdown in demand, supported by alleged order cancellations with suppliers. The data point contradicted earlier Wall Street projections for an above-estimate volume of iPhone shipments in the current shopping season.\nBut DigiTimes Taiwan has recently shifted the focus of attention to the longer term. According to the publication, Apple is looking to “[increase] iPhone shipments by 30% for the first half of next year with the larger goal of exceeding 300 million iPhone shipments in 2022.”\nIf confirmed, this would represent massive YOY improvement, especially in the first few months of the year. Keep in mind (chart below) that the Cupertino company dropped the mic on iPhone sales in the early part of 2021, setting the bar very high for growth in 2022.\nFigure 2: iPhone revenue growth since F19.\nI would warn readers, however, not to rely too much on unofficial announcements about iPhone sales. In addition to the issue of reliability of rumors, the assumption of higher shipments could be a misread on Apple ramping up iPhone production to anticipate supply chain constraints.\nApple Glass: the next big thing\nThe other key reason to own AAPL in 2022 could be the introduction of a brand-new product category. Wedbush’s Dan Ives has been labeling the new device “Apple Glass”, the company’s first attempt at penetrating the AR/VR (augmented and virtual reality) space.\nMr. Ives goes further and estimates the impact of the new product on Apple stock price. According to the analyst, the product launch “could eventually add approximately $20 per share to the sum-of-the-parts value” of the shares.\nWedbush is not alone in its bullish assessment.Morgan Stanley has already suggested that Apple unveiling a mixed reality device in 2022 would be the key catalyst for the hotly-debated metaverse to finally take off.\nThe Apple Maven’s take\nEven as Apple stock reaches its all-time high of $175 apiece, I maintain my bullish stance on the name. Apple’s position as the most important player in consumer tech is at the center of the investment thesis, in my view.\nHowever, keep in mind that buying AAPL at peak price has produced one-year forward returns of “only” 25%, on average, during the iPhone era (i.e. since 2007). This number compares to a much better 46% average annual gain when the stock was bought following a 10% drawdown.\nFrom current levels, therefore, I think that investors should expect to rake in lower returns than if they were buying a dip in share price.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1290,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":606205895,"gmtCreate":1638880719974,"gmtModify":1638880752577,"author":{"id":"4087798944081960","authorId":"4087798944081960","name":"Jeromelim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45cd82e500d76165963f39f22aa6230e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087798944081960","authorIdStr":"4087798944081960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"good","listText":"good","text":"good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/606205895","repostId":"2189398466","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1160,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":608832612,"gmtCreate":1638676938186,"gmtModify":1638676938322,"author":{"id":"4087798944081960","authorId":"4087798944081960","name":"Jeromelim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45cd82e500d76165963f39f22aa6230e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087798944081960","authorIdStr":"4087798944081960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/608832612","repostId":"2188853578","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1104,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":608836465,"gmtCreate":1638676840316,"gmtModify":1638676840467,"author":{"id":"4087798944081960","authorId":"4087798944081960","name":"Jeromelim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45cd82e500d76165963f39f22aa6230e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087798944081960","authorIdStr":"4087798944081960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/608836465","repostId":"1174181873","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1174181873","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1638578178,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1174181873?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-04 08:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US IPO Week Ahead: Digital banking and cloud infrastructure lead a 4 IPO week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1174181873","media":"renaissancecap...","summary":"The IPO market is expected to pick up in the week ahead with four IPOs scheduled to raise $3.7 billi","content":"
The IPO market is expected to pick up in the week ahead with four IPOs scheduled to raise $3.7 billion.
\n
Buffett-backed Nu Holdings(NU) plans to raise $2.5 billion at a $41.1 billion market cap. Instead, inflation accelerated. He now sees its share price rising to $365, up from his prior estimate of $225. Caso said Nvidia's supply constraints are easing as demand for its data center offerings is rising, creating a favorable environment for continued growth.
\n
For another, Jefferies analyst Mark Lipacis boosted his share price forecast from $260 to $370 after Nvidia's revenue and earnings exceeded his projections. He now sees the chipmaker's earnings per share increasing to $16.40 by 2025, up from his previous estimate of $12.50. Looking further ahead, Lipacis pegs Nvidia's market opportunity for its new Omniverse virtual reality platform at a whopping $80 billion.
\n
For a third, Needham analyst Rajvindra Gill lifted his price target all the way to $400 from $245. Gill highlighted the booming growth in Nvidia's data center business and intriguing prospects in the global gaming market.
\n
Now what
\n
Nvidia gives investors many ways to win. Its data center and gaming chips are best-in-class. He now sees its share price rising to $365, up from his prior estimate of $225. Caso said Nvidia's supply constraints are easing as demand for its data center offerings is rising, creating a favorable environment for continued growth.\nFor another, Jefferies analyst Mark Lipacis boosted his share price forecast from $260 to $370 after Nvidia's revenue and earnings exceeded his projections. He now sees the chipmaker's earnings per share increasing to $16.40 by 2025, up from his previous estimate of $12.50. Looking further ahead, Lipacis pegs Nvidia's market opportunity for its new Omniverse virtual reality platform at a whopping $80 billion.\nFor a third, Needham analyst Rajvindra Gill lifted his price target all the way to $400 from $245. Gill highlighted the booming growth in Nvidia's data center business and intriguing prospects in the global gaming market.\nNow what\nNvidia gives investors many ways to win. Investors will hear from Delta Air Lines (DAL),Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), and UnitedHealth Group (UNH), plus, banking heavyweights JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), Bank of America(BAC). It will provide a view of how businesses performed during the third quarter of 2021, and offer a glimpse into coming quarters as well.
\n
Analysts are forecasting aggregate earnings per share on the S&P 500 to grow 24.5%, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. Some of the most economically sensitive sectors are still expecting the largest rebound in EPS, as last year’s third quarter was still ravaged by partial lockdowns. S&P 500 industrial and material companies are expected to see 73% and 90% year-over-year growth, respectively, with energy expected to go from losses to profits. Two of the slowest growing sectors will be the traditionally non-volatile and highly stable consumer staples and utility sectors, expected to see EPS grow 3% and fall 2.9%, respectively.
\n
No matter the predicted growth, companies need to post big earnings beats in order for their shares to gain much. The S&P 500 has already risen 17.9% this year, as companies benefited from the unprecedented reopening following Covid-19 shutdowns and trillions of dollars of fiscal stimulus. As a result, valuations already reflect a large earnings stream, with the average S&P 500 stock trading at around 20.5 times 12-month forward earnings estimates, above the long-term average in the mid-teens. For the market to live up to those valuations, the index needs to beat expectations by at least 10% in order to rally into year-end, writes Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek.
\n
That won’t be easy. Nike (NKE) and FedEx (FDX), for example, posted mixed results as supply chain constraints and rising costs ate into sales and profit margins, causing the stocks to fall 6% and 9%, respectively, the trading day after their earnings reports. The size of earnings beats from early reporters has been shrinking as well. So far, early reporters have topped earnings forecasts by just 4%, well below the 23.2% and 15.5% during the second quarter in 2020 and 2021.
\n
“We believe that economic headwinds will mitigate the benefits from pricing power and operating leverage, leading to less robust surprises in the third quarter,” writes Jonathan Golub, chief U.S. equity strategist at Credit Suisse.
\n
Earnings estimates have begun to reflect those headwinds. Third-quarter forecasts have fallen about 0.8% since the beginning of September. That may not seem like much, but if companies say they expect more difficulty accessing supplies and that higher costs are persisting, analysts could revise 2022 estimates lower. “This sets up the first earnings season in the recovery where earnings risk clearly exists,” writes Tavis McCourt, institutional equity strategist at Raymond James.
\n
The good news? The S&P 500 is down 3.8% from its Sept. 2 all-time high, so there’s a chance that some of the earnings risks are already reflected in the market.
\n
The question is whether it’s enough.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Another Earnings Season Is Here. Third-quarter forecasts have fallen about 0.8% since the beginning of September. That may not seem like much, but if companies say they expect more difficulty accessing supplies and that higher costs are persisting, analysts could revise 2022 estimates lower. “This sets up the first earnings season in the recovery where earnings risk clearly exists,” writes Tavis McCourt, institutional equity strategist at Raymond James.\nThe good news? The S&P 500 is down 3.8% from its Sept. 2 all-time high, so there’s a chance that some of the earnings risks are already reflected in the market.\nThe question is whether it’s enough.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":331,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":828780370,"gmtCreate":1633945917419,"gmtModify":1633945917518,"author":{"id":"4087798944081960","authorId":"4087798944081960","name":"Jeromelim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45cd82e500d76165963f39f22aa6230e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087798944081960","authorIdStr":"4087798944081960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"yes ","listText":"yes ","text":"yes","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/828780370","repostId":"1126688744","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":308,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":866597973,"gmtCreate":1632789182292,"gmtModify":1632797586391,"author":{"id":"4087798944081960","authorId":"4087798944081960","name":"Jeromelim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45cd82e500d76165963f39f22aa6230e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087798944081960","authorIdStr":"4087798944081960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"opportunity ","listText":"opportunity ","text":"opportunity","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/866597973","repostId":"1156306273","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1156306273","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1632787375,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1156306273?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-28 08:02","market":"other","language":"en","title":"All Hell Is Breaking Loose In Energy Markets","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1156306273","media":"zerohedge","summary":"By now readers are well aware that Europe is suffering from a historic gas crisis, one which accordi","content":"
By now readers are well aware that Europe is suffering from a historic gas crisis, one which according to Rabobank isnow even more extremethan the US oil price shock.
\n

\n
And unfortunately for Europe's population, with every passing day - and to a lesser extent hedgefunds such as Statar Capitalwhich suffered a big loss in the past few days - it's only getting worse.
