Even if somebody were to give Tesla's model 3 or S designs for free to GM or Ford they would still screw up: old managers would demand reviews and order improvements, engineers would tweak it for months, union workers would refuse to work hard, factories would have to be retooled, ice parts and supply channels would have to switch to electrical parts, and dealerships would add an extra premium. To compete in price they would have to use less or cheaper materials. Most likely they won't beat Tesla in range.
