Since then, growth stocks have been mired in a brutal bear market. There is no better example of this than Cathie Wood’s Ark Innovation ETF (NYSEARCA:ARKK), which had a 391% gain from Mar. 2020 to its high in Feb. 2021. Since then, ARKK has given back most of these gains and is down 60% from these lofty levels.

The major factor behind this sharp decline is increasing inflationary pressures, resulting in expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will hike rates seven times this year. Rising inflation and interest rates are bearish for growth stocks because it makes their future cash flows less valuable. However, we also know that oversold markets also create an opportunity to buy high-quality stocks at a discount.

The key is to look for companies whose earnings momentum and growth are unaffected by changes in economic or monetary conditions. Therefore, investors should consider the following 3 high-quality growth stocks:

Veeva Systems (NYSE:VEEV)

Resmed, Inc. (NYSE:RMD)

Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS)

Growth Stocks: Veeva Systems (VEEV)

Veeva Systems is a cloud computing and enterprise software company for the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. It provides software solutions for the unique needs of companies in these industries, from meeting regulatory standards to conducting clinical trials to managing operations.

Thus, it is positioned at the intersection of two booming trends — healthcare and cloud computing — which show no signs of exhaustion. These industries have produced some of the biggest stock market winners in recent history.

The healthcare sector’s growth is fueled by demographics due to an aging population in developed countries globally, increased government spending, and the constant stream of innovations that lead to new treatments. Healthcare spending as a share of gross domestic product has risen to 18% in 2020 from under 12% in 1990.

Veeva combines the growth and high margins of a cloud computing company with the attractive economics of the healthcare industry that has high switching costs and wide moats, leading to high rates of recurring revenue.

These positives are reflected in Veeva’s last earnings report which shows a 26% increase in revenue and a 28% jump in operating income. Next quarter, analysts expect 13% earnings growth. This combination of earnings growth and stock price deflation has resulted in valuations becoming quite attractive, especially considering that it has profit margins that are more than double that of the S&P 500 and expectations of double-digit earnings growth over the next five years.

Thus, it is not surprising that VEEV has an overall B rating, which translates to a Buy in our POWR Ratings system. It also has an A for Quality. It is one of the leading stocks in a large total addressable market with only a handful of competitors. Additionally, VEEV has a B for growth. This makes sense given its intersection of two large and growing markets — healthcare and cloud computing. Click here to see more of VEEV’s POWR Ratings, including grades for Value, Momentum, and Stability.

Resmed, Inc. (RMD)

RMD develops, manufactures, distributes, and markets medical devices and software applications for the healthcare market. The company operates in two segments: Sleep and Respiratory Care, and Software as a Service.

RMD provides treatments for issues like sleep apnea with its CPAP devices and masks, as well as devices for obstructive pulmonary disease, neuromuscular disease, and other respiratory-related conditions. Unfortunately, due to rising rates of chronic health issues like diabetes and obesity, the demand for RMD’s products is only growing.

This makes RMD a high-quality growth stock as its long-term prospects are disconnected from short-term issues like economic growth rates or monetary policy. Instead, RMD is serving a growing market with products that are essential for improving quality of life. Due to their nature, these products also have high margins and rates of recurring revenue.

We can see this momentum in its recent earnings report, which showed revenues increasing by 12% and net income increasing by 5%. Next year, analysts forecast revenue growth and earnings per share (EPS) growth of 17% and 15%, respectively.

RMD is also a standout in terms of the POWR Ratings with an overall B rating, translating to a Buy. The POWR Ratings assess stocks by 118 distinct factors, each with its own weighting.

RMD has strong ratings across the board, including a B grade for Growth as analysts are forecasting double-digit revenue growth over the next decade. Within the Medical – Devices & Equipment industry, RMD is ranked #33 out of 165 stocks. Click here to see RMD’s complete POWR Ratings.

Growth Stocks: Zoetis (ZTS)

Zoetis was spun off from Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) in 2013 and is now the leading manufacturer and producer of animal health products including medicines, vaccines, and diagnostic products. Since its debut, the stock is up more than six-fold.

One major factor in Zoeitis’ growth is that pet ownership is on the rise. Spending on pets is also rising. These trends have been in place for decades and are likely to persist, creating a positive tailwind for animal health companies like ZTS. Additionally, more people are choosing to buy health insurance for their pets, as well.

The weakness in growth stocks has led to ZTS’ price pulling back by 30%. Therefore, investors should consider the following 3 high-quality growth stocks:Veeva Systems (NYSE:VEEV)Resmed, Inc. (NYSE:RMD)Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS)Growth Stocks: Veeva Systems (VEEV)Veeva Systems is a cloud computing and enterprise software company for the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. Healthcare spending as a share of gross domestic product has risen to 18% in 2020 from under 12% in 1990.Veeva combines the growth and high margins of a cloud computing company with the attractive economics of the healthcare industry that has high switching costs and wide moats, leading to high rates of recurring revenue. Click here to see more of VEEV’s POWR Ratings, including grades for Value, Momentum, and Stability.Resmed, Inc. (RMD)RMD develops, manufactures, distributes, and markets medical devices and software applications for the healthcare market. The company operates in two segments: Sleep and Respiratory Care, and Software as a Service.RMD provides treatments for issues like sleep apnea with its CPAP devices and masks, as well as devices for obstructive pulmonary disease, neuromuscular disease, and other respiratory-related conditions. Next year, analysts forecast revenue growth and earnings per share (EPS) growth of 17% and 15%, respectively.RMD is also a standout in terms of the POWR Ratings with an overall B rating, translating to a Buy. The POWR Ratings assess stocks by 118 distinct factors, each with its own weighting.RMD has strong ratings across the board, including a B grade for Growth as analysts are forecasting double-digit revenue growth over the next decade. Within the Medical – Devices & Equipment industry, RMD is ranked #33 out of 165 stocks. Since its debut, the stock is up more than six-fold.One major factor in Zoeitis’ growth is that pet ownership is on the rise. However, its recent earnings report shows that the company continues to have strong momentum. The company reported an 11% increase in revenue and 14% increase in earnings. For the full year, analysts forecast 16% revenue growth and 21% EPS growth.Given these factors, it is not surprising that ZTS has a B rating, which equates to a Buy in our proprietary rating system. B-rated stocks have posted an average annual performance of 21.1% which compares favorably to the S&P 500’s average gain of 8%.In terms of component grades, ZTS has an A for Quality and a B for Stability. have now returned to sub-$12 at the time of this writing.

There is a host of reasons why the stock is still expensive.

Revenue growth at 30% per year through 2025.

There is some residual value in contracts booked with Palantir that are yet to be delivered that will lead to future revenue.

Free cash flow positive, and scratching the surface of profitability.

There is no doubt about it, technology stocks, especially those that are potential game-changing names, are often extremely expensive. For years many of these stocks will lose money but invest heavily in their growth while seeing revenues increase dramatically. Sometimes that growth fades and the company never really transforms the world like it set out to do. Then there are times where for years the company loses money, but the internal metrics improve year after year and growth eventually is so strong profits roll in. Every great tech giant you know started out losing money. Picking winners and losers is easier said than done in the long term, but the key in our opinion is to look at what problems they solve, who their customers are, the growth, and to a lesser degree, valuation. One of the most controversial stocks in the market is Palantir Technologies (PLTR). The stock direct listed in 2020 and took off during the major tech rally into 2021. But in 2021, the stock began to fade, and today is back under $12. Has it come down enough? We think so, for the long-term investor. Even for traders, the potential of a dead cat bounce near-term is highly likely, but in the near-term, the stock is still expensive, even for high growth tech, but is much more reasonable compared to a few months ago. Thecompany just reported earnings, and the growth remains on track. The company is scratching the surface of profitability and is free cash flow positive. Customer count is growing and retention is strong. In short, we believe you can finally start buying here again.

What goes up doesn't always come down, but Palantir stock sure did

Take a look at the chart of Palantir since going live on the stock market in 2020:

BAD BEAT Investing

As you can see, the stock rocketed to all-time highs in February of 2021 and traded a bit sideways in the 20s for a few months before cratering in the fall and of 2021 into 2022 with the threat of rate hikes decimating the high revenue growth, little to no earnings tech. Palantir fits this bill pretty well. But you can look at the chart of many innovation names that are seeing massive revenue growth but make no money. They all have gotten crushed in the last few months. While Palantir stock has a number of risks, we think you can finally start to buy.

The play

Target entry 1: $11.95-$12.15 40% of position

Target entry 2: $10.80-$11.00 60% of position

Stop loss: $9

Target exit: $15

Options recommendations: With premiums high in this volatile name selling puts is a strong strategy for income and/or defining entry. Consider the March 18th, 2022 $12 puts for $0.80-$0.85 in premium. Call option buying is pricey, but you can consider the August 19th, 2022 $14 strike for $1.60, then $1.20.

Discussion

Palantir brings in its revenue under two reporting segments. These are the government and commercial segments. Its commercial revenue stream has grown at a rapid rate over the last year, while government results and the outlook have been a bit mixed. To improve sales, Palantir has expanded its sales team and they have been working to secure new orders. In our opinion, this paid off.

Performance was strong andahead of consensus estimates. Total revenue grew 34% year-over-year to $433 million, beating estimates by almost $15 million. The commercial revenue continues to grow at a great pace, rising 132% in 2021, and up 47% in Q4 vs last year. While the Government revenues have slowed their growth somewhat, they still rose 26% from last year, and the company added a total of 34 net new customers in the quarter across both segments.

Now, here is the thing. The company is just barely starting to make money. That means the stock is expensive, like so many other growth tech names. More on that in a moment. While the company lost $59 million, adjusted income from operations was $124 million, while the company is free cash flow positive, seeing $104 million in the quarter. That is a big positive. For the year, adjusted free cash flow was $424 million. We love free cash flow. This is a very big positive. The company squeaked out a $0.02 adjusted EPS result. It is something.

Now, as for the valuation, it is often best to look at price to sales ratios for high-growth tech. Take a look at Seeking Alpha'sgradeson these measures:

Seeking Alpha

A bit laughable really, as all high-growth tech seemingly have 'failing' grades, but the metrics are what matters. At 18X sales, the stock is still expensive, factoring in the drop in shares to under $12, and we are still pricey at 15X-16X, but this is much more reasonable compared to when the stock was in the $30s. 90X FWD EPS, well, the company is working to get to being profitable, but we do like the hidden positive of a 1.0X PEG ratio. In terms ofgrowth, these measures look a lot better with 38% FWD revenue growth expected, and 350% levered free cash flow growth going forward. These fundamentals continue to improve for the company.

Of course, the stock is still not without risk. First, even after the precipitous drop, shares are pricey as we mentioned. The company also could see government slash spending in tough times, though, some would argue that their technology saves the government money. We see the commercials sales growing though a recession could lead to reduced spend on tech companies like Palantir that try and help solve problems for companies.

Perhaps one of the biggest issues many people have with this company is the unrelenting dilution that has been occurring. Alex Karp addressed this on the conference call:

Thank you. And I really appreciate you, investors. Thanks for investing and the faith you have in us. Okay. So there's like the simple version, which I think it's like - so there's really - there's stock-based comp and there's dilution. Dilution thing, that's a red herring. We're not issuing a lot of new shares, I think it's like in the $9 million range. And so it would be a little coy of me to say that's like no issue, move on.

The thing to understand about Palantir and then I want to just take this like, it's actually not the result of the DPO, it's the result of the fact that we were completely focused on building product. We had no earthly idea we were going to DPO like right before we did it. And so most companies are quite frankly built so that the - when analysts look at it, the primary customer of most software companies is not the client, it's the software analyst.

So it's like we, obviously, our primary clients are our clients. which doesn't mean - and then now we're thinking about how do we expose the data in a way that people on the outside like you and professional analysts and others can look at the data and get a better sense of what's tracking, what's not tracking. But the primary source of a lot of these like questions really comes down to look, we built the company to support the U.S. warfighter primarily and then do - take dual, use it for the glory of humanity, particular humanity in the West. That was our idea. And because our primary client was not what someone had a hedge fund would think, we didn't actually think of these things from inception. And so now there's a process of normalization.

You're just going to see that in going forward on these calls just like how do you normalize, how do you provide data that people are going to look at, how do you provide data that people can understand that they're used to seeing, while simultaneously staying true to what our mission is. It's like our primary clients are the people we're serving. We're in full align with them. And that's why we survive even with the nascent sales force. You can get things to double, which is in sync.

So then you get to stock-based comp, which is like, okay, so - and there's 2 parts of it. Of course, IRI people kind of don't want me to do any kind of forward-looking math, but if you're smart enough to invest in talent, you're smart enough to figure out. There's essentially - there's the - how are we comping people, and there will be a normalization that will get us into a range where you would see in a software company within the next 18 months, latest 2 years. But there's essentially - and that's going to take a little time. It is going to happen, because it's also very much linked to another question, which is how do you actually run the company so it's profitable someday on a GAAP basis, not stripping out comp. And that was also within eyesight.

And those are our goals for Palantir because same reason we have no debt. The same reason we have $2.3 billion on our balance sheet. This is a company built for bad times. Bad times means strong finances internally. And that means at some point, you have to be GAAP profitable. You can't be GAAP profitable if you're diluting people or - correctly your stock based comp is totally - is not in conformity with other companies.

So you're seeing a normalization. This will change. It will change in the relatively near future. It will be linked to other things that we believe are important for Palantir like having a company that thrives in bad times. And we are - bad times are very good for Palantir because we build products that are robust, that are built for danger. And then the finances internally are actually built for bad times. And bad times means you have free cash flow, the free cash flow turns into GAAP profit.

That means the stock-based comp has to be one that's aligned with our investors also because that's basically - it's part of a little bit longer philosophical narrative, but like if software is the only moat, then value and gross shares have to be re-evaluated in terms of their value, value only exists if you can actually get a tech node, call it, maybe something besides. And growth only exist if you build a company that is where the technology is strong enough, the business fundamentals are strong enough that the free cash flow actually turns into GAAP profitability, and that's linked to stock return. So this is a priority, both because you care, but also quite frankly, because it is the health of our company, which we care a lot about."

As you can see, they acknowledge that this is an issue. We also like the mention of getting to GAAP profitability. However, we do encourage you to actually read the full transcript. The call was a bit interesting. There was not a lot of talk about financials and quite a bit of conjecture on the call. A lot of words, and not a lot of substance. This gives us a little bit more risk in addition to what was mentioned above.

Take home

Shares have been crushed. But the company operates with no debt and free cash flow. What goes up doesn't always come down, but Palantir stock sure didTake a look at the chart of Palantir since going live on the stock market in 2020:BAD BEAT InvestingAs you can see, the stock rocketed to all-time highs in February of 2021 and traded a bit sideways in the 20s for a few months before cratering in the fall and of 2021 into 2022 with the threat of rate hikes decimating the high revenue growth, little to no earnings tech. Palantir fits this bill pretty well. But you can look at the chart of many innovation names that are seeing massive revenue growth but make no money. They all have gotten crushed in the last few months. While Palantir stock has a number of risks, we think you can finally start to buy.The playTarget entry 1: $11.95-$12.15 40% of positionTarget entry 2: $10.80-$11.00 60% of positionStop loss: $9Target exit: $15Options recommendations: With premiums high in this volatile name selling puts is a strong strategy for income and/or defining entry. Consider the March 18th, 2022 $12 puts for $0.80-$0.85 in premium. Call option buying is pricey, but you can consider the August 19th, 2022 $14 strike for $1.60, then $1.20.DiscussionPalantir brings in its revenue under two reporting segments. These are the government and commercial segments. Its commercial revenue stream has grown at a rapid rate over the last year, while government results and the outlook have been a bit mixed. To improve sales, Palantir has expanded its sales team and they have been working to secure new orders. In our opinion, this paid off.Performance was strong andahead of consensus estimates. Take a look at Seeking Alpha'sgradeson these measures:Seeking AlphaA bit laughable really, as all high-growth tech seemingly have 'failing' grades, but the metrics are what matters. These fundamentals continue to improve for the company.Of course, the stock is still not without risk. First, even after the precipitous drop, shares are pricey as we mentioned. The company also could see government slash spending in tough times, though, some would argue that their technology saves the government money. We see the commercials sales growing though a recession could lead to reduced spend on tech companies like Palantir that try and help solve problems for companies.Perhaps one of the biggest issues many people have with this company is the unrelenting dilution that has been occurring. Alex Karp addressed this on the conference call:Thank you. And so it would be a little coy of me to say that's like no issue, move on.The thing to understand about Palantir and then I want to just take this like, it's actually not the result of the DPO, it's the result of the fact that we were completely focused on building product. You can get things to double, which is in sync.So then you get to stock-based comp, which is like, okay, so - and there's 2 parts of it. So this is a priority, both because you care, but also quite frankly, because it is the health of our company, which we care a lot about.\"As you can see, they acknowledge that this is an issue. We also like the mention of getting to GAAP profitability. However, we do encourage you to actually read the full transcript. The call was a bit interesting. There was not a lot of talk about financials and quite a bit of conjecture on the call. A lot of words, and not a lot of substance. This gives us a little bit more risk in addition to what was mentioned above.Take homeShares have been crushed. But the company operates with no debt and free cash flow. The dilution issue is a major annoyance for shareholders and is a risk factor for valuation. Despite falling to levels not seen since 2020, the stock remains expensive, but nowhere near where it was valued a year ago. With the growth the company is displaying and what appears to be a recognition of the need to get to profitability, we like scaling in here.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"PLTR":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":831,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":638923616,"gmtCreate":1645052843028,"gmtModify":1645052843212,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm","listText":"Hmm","text":"Hmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/638923616","repostId":"1192568778","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1192568778","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1645023727,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1192568778?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-02-16 23:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Shopify Tumbled 16% in Morning Trading after Warning on Decelerating Growth","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1192568778","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Shopify tumbled 16% in morning trading after warning on decelerating growth. For Q4, Shopify's (SHOP)","content":"

Shopify tumbled 16% in morning trading after warning on decelerating growth.For Q4, Shopify's (SHOP) revenue increased 41% to $1.38B with subscriptions solutions revenue up 26% to $351M and merchant solutions revenue 47% higher to $1.03B. ,"news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":1,".IXIC":1,"SPY":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":710,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":631726032,"gmtCreate":1644939750819,"gmtModify":1644939751012,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm","listText":"Hmm","text":"Hmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/631726032","repostId":"2211636917","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2211636917","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1644938738,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2211636917?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-02-15 revenue.
\n
While the gains on the stock Friday have been muted (+0.22%) as of this writing, it's not an issue of trading volume, as the stock has traded over 3.8 million shares versus the 10-day average of 3.3 million.
\n
But the more unique data point is in the options market, with over 680,000 contracts traded Friday (image below).
\n
<img 531,000 calls and 570,000 puts for a total of 1.01 millionoptions. Even with Friday's jump, the S&P 500 is down 7% so far in 2022, with the Nasdaq and the Dow suffering respective drops of 12% and 4.4% over the same time period.

"Investors are trying to adjust to the impact of this higher rate cycle," said Rick Meckler, partner at Cherry Lane Investments, a family investment office in New Vernon, New Jersey. "For some of them, stocks still remain more attractive than bonds in a rising rate environment, and they have been fishing around for where a bottom might be."

"You're seeing bargain-hunting in a number of stocks, particularly in the Nasdaq," Meckler added.

Economic data released on Friday showed a drop in consumer spending coupled with the lowest consumer sentiment reading in a decade, and year-on-year Core PCE prices - the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation yardstick - came in at 4.9%, slightly hotter than expected.

The graphic below shows how far core PCE and other major indicators have risen above the Fed's average annual 2% target.

The Fed made it clear at the conclusion of its monetary policy meeting on Wednesday that they intend to take off their gloves and combat stubbornly persistent inflation by hiking key interest rates more aggressively than many market participants expected.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 564.69 points, or 1.65%, to 34,725.47, the S&P 500 gained 105.34 points, or 2.43%, to 4,431.85 and the Nasdaq Composite added 417.79 points, or 3.13%, to 13,770.57.

Among the 11 major sectors of the S&P 500, all but energy ended green. Tech stocks were the clear winners, gaining 4.3%, the biggest one-day jump for the sector since April 6, 2020.

Fourth-quarter reporting season was firing on all cylinders, with 168 of the companies in the S&P 500 having reported. Of those, 77% have delivered consensus-beating results, according to Refinitiv data.

But investors have been increasingly focused on guidance, and the extent to which companies expect ongoing global supply challenges to affect their bottom line going forward.

"As we move into 2022, and as Omicron peaks and the weather improves, I expect supply-chain pressures to ease," Said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird in Louisville, Kentucky. "(They) will probably peak sometime this quarter, and ease throughout the year."

Data storage equipment maker Western Digital cited supply-chain headwinds after it reported lower than expected revenue and provided a disappointing forecast, sending its shares sliding 7.3%.

Caterpillar Inc fell 5.2% following the equipment maker's warning that higher production and labor costs will pressure its profit margin.

Chevron Corp dropped 3.5% on downbeat fourth-quarter profit.

However, Apple's 7.0% jump gave the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq their biggest boost, the day after the company posted record iPhone sales in the holiday quarter.

Visa Inc surged 10.6% following its quarterly earnings beat driven by increased spending on international travel and e-commerce.

Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.83-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.92-to-1 ratio favored advancers.

The S&P 500 posted 5 new 52-week highs and 24 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 16 new highs and 753 new lows.

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 12.80 billion shares, compared with the 12.10 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Even with Friday's jump, the S&P 500 is down 7% so far in 2022, with the Nasdaq and the Dow suffering respective drops of 12% and 4.4% over the same time period.\"Investors are trying to adjust to the impact of this higher rate cycle,\" said Rick Meckler, partner at Cherry Lane Investments, a family investment office in New Vernon, New Jersey. \"For some of them, stocks still remain more attractive than bonds in a rising rate environment, and they have been fishing around for where a bottom might be.\"\"You're seeing bargain-hunting in a number of stocks, particularly in the Nasdaq,\" Meckler added.Economic data released on Friday showed a drop in consumer spending coupled with the lowest consumer sentiment reading in a decade, and year-on-year Core PCE prices - the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation yardstick - came in at 4.9%, slightly hotter than expected. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 564.69 points, or 1.65%, to 34,725.47, the S&P 500 gained 105.34 points, or 2.43%, to 4,431.85 and the Nasdaq Composite added 417.79 points, or 3.13%, to 13,770.57.Among the 11 major sectors of the S&P 500, all but energy ended green. Tech stocks were the clear winners, gaining 4.3%, the biggest one-day jump for the sector since April 6, 2020.Fourth-quarter reporting season was firing on all cylinders, with 168 of the companies in the S&P 500 having reported. Of those, 77% have delivered consensus-beating results, according to Refinitiv data. But investors have been increasingly focused on guidance, and the extent to which companies expect ongoing global supply challenges to affect their bottom line going forward.\"As we move into 2022, and as Omicron peaks and the weather improves, I expect supply-chain pressures to ease,\" Said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird in Louisville, Kentucky. \"(They) will probably peak sometime this quarter, and ease throughout the year.\"Data storage equipment maker Western Digital cited supply-chain headwinds after it reported lower than expected revenue and provided a disappointing forecast, sending its shares sliding 7.3%.Caterpillar Inc fell 5.2% following the equipment maker's warning that higher production and labor costs will pressure its profit margin.Chevron Corp dropped 3.5% on downbeat fourth-quarter profit. However, Apple's 7.0% jump gave the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq their biggest boost, the day after the company posted record iPhone sales in the holiday quarter.Visa Inc surged 10.6% following its quarterly earnings beat driven by increased spending on international travel and e-commerce.Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.83-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.92-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted 5 new 52-week highs and 24 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 16 new highs and 753 new lows.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 12.80 billion shares, compared with the 12.10 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.62,"NQmain":0.9,"SPY":0.6}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":562,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":692929342,"gmtCreate":1640830482186,"gmtModify":1640830482376,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Leggo","listText":"Leggo","text":"Leggo","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/692929342","repostId":"2195466435","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":359,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":690217184,"gmtCreate":1639669429272,"gmtModify":1639669429441,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm","listText":"Hmm","text":"Hmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/690217184","repostId":"1108384523","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1108384523","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1639667369,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1108384523?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-16 23:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Vir Biotechnology continued to gain over 7% in morning trading after showing neutralizing activity against omicron","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108384523","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Vir Biotechnology continued to gain over 7% in morning trading after showing neutralizing activity a","content":"
Vir Biotechnology continued to gain over 7% in morning trading after showing neutralizing activity against omicron. The company announced new preclinical data, published to the preprint server bioRxiv, demonstrating the impact of the significant antigenic shift of the new COVID-19 omicron variant (B.1.1.529).
\n
A significant reduction in plasma neutralizing activity was observed against omicron in sera from vaccinated and convalescent individuals.
\n
Researchers also tested the in vitro neutralizing activity of 44 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) (eight of which are currently authorized or approved).
\n
Data demonstrate that sotrovimab and five other preclinical mAbs, developed by Vir in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline plc (NYSE: GSK), retained their in vitro neutralizing activity against omicron.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Here are three things from the report that highlight why Five Below is such a formidable retail business.
\n
1. Growth where it counts
\n
Total sales increased by 27% year over year. Five Below achieved the highest average store sales in the third quarter in the company's history. The extra demand during the quarter helped offset higher transportation costs and delivered a stellar 75% year-over-year increase in operating profit.
\n
\"The ability of our teams to recognize trends and capitalize on them quickly is a key distinguishing characteristic and strength of our model,\" CEO Joel Anderson said during the earnings call.
\n
It's not a coincidence that Five Below delivered this level of performance in a quarter where consumers are being squeezed with higher prices for goods. Higher inflation could serve as a catalyst for more demand through the fiscal fourth quarter as consumers seek the best value for gifts this Christmas.
\n
2. Delivering value above the $5 price point
\n
One growth catalyst to watch is Five Below's efforts to sell items above its traditional $5-or-less assortment. As the company grows larger and expands its buying power with suppliers, it's able to source higher-priced merchandise and deliver even better quality and savings for customers. Management is pleased with the results so far, citing its recent offering of $12 telescopes and a $25 six-foot basketball hoop.
\n
Moreover, customers who shop Five Beyond products tend to spend more than the average customer. These high spenders clearly contributed to Five Below's record average store sales last quarter. The Five Beyond category should spread to half of the chain by the end of next year. It's currently at about 30% of the business.
\n
3. Room for more store openings
\n
Overall, the biggest contributor to sales momentum is new stores. Five Below opened 52 new stores during the quarter. This brings its total fleet to 1,190 stores across 40 states, but management continues to see the potential for more than 2,500 stores over the long term.
\n
The store count has historically grown about 21% per year. Plus, stores have consistently delivered positive comparable sales growth, excluding the temporary store closures during the pandemic. This gives the company a long-term runway for sales growth.
\n
Most importantly, Five Below has proven it's got a profitable business model for selling goods at ultra-cheap prices, which makes it a resilient retail business during a recession. Consumers are naturally going to shop for more value when the economy softens or inflation spikes, as it has recently. Here are three things from the report that highlight why Five Below is such a formidable retail business.\n1. Growth where it counts\nTotal sales increased by 27% year over year. Five Below achieved the highest average store sales in the third quarter in the company's history. The extra demand during the quarter helped offset higher transportation costs and delivered a stellar 75% year-over-year increase in operating profit.\n\"The ability of our teams to recognize trends and capitalize on them quickly is a key distinguishing characteristic and strength of our model,\" CEO Joel Anderson said during the earnings call.\nIt's not a coincidence that Five Below delivered this level of performance in a quarter where consumers are being squeezed with higher prices for goods. Higher inflation could serve as a catalyst for more demand through the fiscal fourth quarter as consumers seek the best value for gifts this Christmas.\n2. Delivering value above the $5 price point\nOne growth catalyst to watch is Five Below's efforts to sell items above its traditional $5-or-less assortment. As the company grows larger and expands its buying power with suppliers, it's able to source higher-priced merchandise and deliver even better quality and savings for customers. Management is pleased with the results so far, citing its recent offering of $12 telescopes and a $25 six-foot basketball hoop.\nMoreover, customers who shop Five Beyond products tend to spend more than the average customer. These high spenders clearly contributed to Five Below's record average store sales last quarter. The Five Beyond category should spread to half of the chain by the end of next year. It's currently at about 30% of the business.\n3. Room for more store openings\nOverall, the biggest contributor to sales momentum is new stores. Five Below opened 52 new stores during the quarter. This brings its total fleet to 1,190 stores across 40 states, but management continues to see the potential for more than 2,500 stores over the long term.\nThe store count has historically grown about 21% per year. Plus, stores have consistently delivered positive comparable sales growth, excluding the temporary store closures during the pandemic. This gives the company a long-term runway for sales growth.\nMost importantly, Five Below has proven it's got a profitable business model for selling goods at ultra-cheap prices, which makes it a resilient retail business during a recession. Consumers are naturally going to shop for more value when the economy softens or inflation spikes, as it has recently. This scenario plays to Five Below's advantage.\nOf course, long-term investors should always consider how much value they are getting in return for buying shares in a business. Considering Five Below's opportunities to continue opening new stores, the stock'sprice-to-earnings ratio of 40 based on this year's earnings forecast doesn't look all that expensive. Investors shouldn't be afraid to start a position in the stock at these levels.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"FIVE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":421,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":601320302,"gmtCreate":1638493115347,"gmtModify":1638493115347,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Lets go!","listText":"Lets go!","text":"Lets go!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/601320302","repostId":"2188510525","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":497,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":609104149,"gmtCreate":1638247382306,"gmtModify":1638247382404,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice!","listText":"Nice!","text":"Nice!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/609104149","repostId":"1164197088","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":294,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":870238057,"gmtCreate":1636620772001,"gmtModify":1636620772001,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575499385722971","authorIdStr":"3575499385722971"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gonna take a while.. since they r dealing w mas...","listText":"Gonna take a while.. since they r dealing w mas...","text":"Gonna take a while.. since they r dealing w mas...","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/870238057","repostId":"1171873982","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":336,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
