Apple’s EV project first came to public light in early 2015 when it became known that Apple was offering incentives to Tesla workers to come work on electric cars with the consumer electronics company. A Reuters article in 2016 reported that Apple had been secretly investigating charging stations and attempting to gain expertise in the area.</p>\n<p>“It's a matter of when, not if Apple comes out with the Apple car,” Ives said. “We've assigned 75%, 80%-plus chance that this happens. We've said 2024 [as a possible release date for the Apple car].”</p>\n<p>The project, referred to as “Titan,” would launch Apple into the $10 trillion-a-year global mobility market. The industry, which now accounts for 13% of global GDP, has grown rapidly for the past four decades at a rate of 3.8% a year.</p>\n<p>“Apple is not going to view this market from the outside,” Ives said. “It's a fourth Industrial Revolution playing out. And I think Cook and company within Apple Park, they have a lot of things going on when it comes to autonomous [vehicles].”</p>\n<h2><b>EVs could make up 20% of global market by 2030</b></h2>\n<p>EVs currently make up about 3% of the global market share - but this figure could rise expeditiously over the next decade. A report released last year by Sopheon, an enterprise innovation management company, projected that Mild hybrids (MHEVs) will jump from 3% of the global market in 2020 to 20% by 2030.</p>\n<p>Tesla (TSLA) dominates the EV industry for now, and has enjoyed a historic run in the stock market this year. But research suggests that might change.</p>\n<p>During the first six months of 2020, Tesla accounted for 79.5% of all new EVs registered in the US. For the same period in 2021, Tesla’s share of new EV registrations dropped to 66.3%.</p>\n<p>Audi, Ford (F), and Chevrolet (GM), older car companies with significantly larger sales numbers, have created a presence in the EV market as of late. But other EV-focused companies have begun to grow, in the US and abroad, that could threaten Tesla’s dominance in the industry.</p>\n<p>Rivian, an electric vehicle automaker, launched its IPO on Nov. 10 and raised nearly $12 billion. Once consumers enter the location, they can shop the market like any other Amazon Go location, grab their Starbucks mobile order and leave — or choose to stay a while.</p>\n<p>When guests take any item off the shelf, it will immediately be added to their virtual cart, and if customers put back an item, it will come out of the cart. Once the customer leaves the Amazon Go market portion of the store, their card will be charged and the receipt is expected to follow within a few hours, if not faster, according to the release.</p>\n<p>Items that will be available for pickup include classic Starbucks fare like Sous Vide Egg Bites, breakfast sandwiches and protein boxes, in addition to items that are found at other Amazon Go locations. It is even more concentrated than SOXX, with its top five holdings making up 44.4% of the portfolio, but its different weighting scheme means Taiwan Semiconductor is the top holding, at 14.5%. Its expense ratio is 0.35%.</li>\n <li>The SPDR S&amp;P Semiconductor ETFXSDhas $1.4 billion in assets, with a modified equal weighting of 40 stocks that “tilts its portfolio away from large, well-known companies and toward smaller growth ones,” according to FactSet. Its expense ratio is 0.35%.</li>\n <li>The Invesco Dynamic Semiconductors ETFPSIalso leans toward smaller companies, with a modified equal-weighted $860 million portfolio of 30 stocks, reconstituted quarterly. Its expense ratio is 0.56%.</li>\n <li>The First Trust Nasdaq Semiconductor ETFFTXLhas $95 million in assets and holds 30 of the most liquid semiconductor stocks listed in the U.S., “weighted according to factors related to value, volatility and growth,” according to FactSet. Its largest holding is Synaptics Inc.SYNA,which makes up 8.3% of the portfolio. Its expense ratio is 0.60%.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Together, removing duplicates, the five ETFs hold 65 stocks, with 62 covered by at least five analysts covered by FactSet.</p>\n<p>Among the 62 companies, 25 have “buy” or equivalent ratings among at least 75% of the analysts. Only 10 of them are held by SOXX and only three (including Nvidia) are held by all five ETFs.
