Victims","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2176480374","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Johnson & Johnson could start collecting on its new legal strategy for dealing with baby-powder canc","content":"
Johnson & Johnson could start collecting on its new legal strategy for dealing with baby-powder cancer claims as early as Wednesday as it seeks to win an initial courtroom showdown with 35,000 people who claim they were hurt by the widely used product.
\n
The consumer health-care company wants a federal judge to temporarily halt all lawsuits related to the talc in its baby powder so it can negotiate a settlement under bankruptcy rules usually reserved for failed companies that can’t pay their debts.
\n
Johnson & Johnson itself is healthy financially. The company created a new corporation responsible for paying all baby-powder claims, then put that unit into bankruptcy where it will seek a temporary halt to lawsuits.
\n
The strategy, known as the Texas Two Step, has enraged victims who filed lawsuits claiming they got cancer and other diseases from J&J’s baby powder.
\n
“The plaintiffs are women, many of whom waited for years to have their day in court, or the families of women who never lived long enough to see their day in court, or to see J&J face liability for its actions,” lawyers for the 35,000 people said in a court filing Tuesday.
\n
Victim Trust Fund
\n
J&J is seeking to use special rules that allow companies in Chapter 11 bankruptcy to set up a trust fund that pays all current and future asbestos claims. Victims claim the baby powder contains asbestos, an industrial substance that causes fatal lung disorder, and say they developed health problems including ovarian cancer after using the product.
\n
Once a bankruptcy judge approves such a fund, all lawsuits end and the claims are paid through the trust. Setting up such a fund often requires years of negotiation with victims’ lawyers. During those talks, the lawsuits are typical halted, saving the company money.
\n
The two sides are scheduled to face off Wednesday morning in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the unit, LTL Management, sought bankruptcy protection to help negotiate an end to J&J’s talc and asbestos liabilities.
\n
On Monday, J&J asked U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Craig Whitley to block the lawsuits while LTL tries to negotiate a deal with victim groups, arguing in court papers that it deserves the same protection given other parent companies that have faced similar problems.
\n
Under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, companies that file bankruptcy are routinely granted such protection. Related companies also sometimes get the same help, even if they are not in bankruptcy themselves. For example, lumber giant Georgia Pacific and building products maker CertainTeed both won a reprieve from asbestos lawsuits after units they created under the Texas Two Step sought court protection.
\n
Victim lawyers said in response that LTL filed the wrong paperwork when it sought to protect J&J from the suits.
\n
J&J’s bankruptcy strategy started just as lawyers for victims began gearing up for a trial next year in federal court in New Jersey.
\n
The company denies that its baby powder, which it stopped selling in the U.S. last year, causes cancer. J&J says it is ready to put $2 billion into a trust fund for alleged victims and put its unit into bankruptcy only as a way to negotiate an end to the litigation.
\n
The case is LTL Management LLC, 21-30589, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of North Carolina (Charlotte).
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
J&J Seeks Early Victory in Fight With Baby Powder Cancer Victims
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nJ&J Seeks Early Victory in Fight With Baby Powder Cancer Victims\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-20 23:13 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Johnson & Johnson could start collecting on its new legal strategy for dealing with baby-powder cancer claims as early as Wednesday as it seeks to win an initial courtroom showdown with 35,000 people ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"JNJ":"强生"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/j-j-seeks-early-victory-114500249.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2176480374","content_text":"Johnson & Johnson could start collecting on its new legal strategy for dealing with baby-powder cancer claims as early as Wednesday as it seeks to win an initial courtroom showdown with 35,000 people who claim they were hurt by the widely used product.\nThe consumer health-care company wants a federal judge to temporarily halt all lawsuits related to the talc in its baby powder so it can negotiate a settlement under bankruptcy rules usually reserved for failed companies that can’t pay their debts.\nJohnson & Johnson itself is healthy financially. While Apple might look somewhat expensive at a price-to-earnings ratio of 27, analysts have been underestimating the iPhone maker for years. The stock has delivered multibagger returns over the last decade even though the brand was just as well known in 2011 as it is today.
\n
Wait times for the newest iPhones are reported to be the longest in at least four years at more than four weeks. While Wall Street tries to figure out whether it's genuine demand or supply shortages creating the delays, the only thing that matters is that the 5G upgrade cycle is definitely here, and it's going to lead to more revenue growth for Apple over the next few years.
\n
Apple started the year with an installed base of 1.65 billion devices worldwide, a new record. The introduction of 5G on the iPhone 12 drove strong revenue performance a year ago. Through the first three quarters of fiscal 2021 (through June), iPhone sales were up 37.5% year over year. The new iPhone 13 should pull in users that skipped last year's upgrade, especially once people get a look at the smoothness of the new screens on the Pro models.
\n
The iPhone is the flywheel product for Apple, since strong sales tend to spill over to other products and services. All said, Apple is looking at a profitable stretch of growth and is a good bet for investors.
\n
Micron Technology: A top provider of essential mobile hardware
\n
Micron is a leading supplier of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), non-volatile memory (NAND), and NOR flash memory and storage products that are used in consumer PCs, data centers, and by some of the leading smartphone manufacturers. Long-term demand trends in the data center and 5G markets are driving a strong growth phase for the company, with revenue up 29% in fiscal 2021, which ended in September.
\n
Micron's mobile business unit grew 26% in fiscal 2021 and accounted for slightly more than a quarter of its total revenue. Management is anticipating another strong year of growth, as 5G phones contain significantly more memory capacity than 4G phones.
\n
Micron has supplied products for iPhones in the past, but a recent teardown of the iPhone 13 revealed that Apple chose to use chips from Micron competitors SK Hynix and Kioxia this time around. This isn't a problem for Micron, though, since the smartphone market is much bigger than Apple, with 5G smartphone sales expected to reach 500 million units this year.
\n
Given the growth Micron is seeing across the data center, mobile, automotive, and industrial markets, the stock looks particularly attractive at a forward P/E of just 7.2. Throw in a small quarterly dividend of $0.10 per share (yielding about 0.15% at the current stock price), and investors are looking at one cheap stock to invest in the 5G growth cycle.
\n
Zynga: A fast-growing mobile game producer
\n
It's not just hardware suppliers that will benefit from 5G. People who play mobile games will see significant benefits, such as faster downloads, from the technology and Zynga is the company behind several popular mobile games, including FarmVille, Merge Magic!, Empires & Puzzles, and Words With Friends. While Apple might look somewhat expensive at a price-to-earnings ratio of 27, analysts have been underestimating the iPhone maker for years. The stock has delivered multibagger returns over the last decade even though the brand was just as well known in 2011 as it is today.\nWait times for the newest iPhones are reported to be the longest in at least four years at more than four weeks. While Wall Street tries to figure out whether it's genuine demand or supply shortages creating the delays, the only thing that matters is that the 5G upgrade cycle is definitely here, and it's going to lead to more revenue growth for Apple over the next few years.\nApple started the year with an installed base of 1.65 billion devices worldwide, a new record. The introduction of 5G on the iPhone 12 drove strong revenue performance a year ago. Through the first three quarters of fiscal 2021 (through June), iPhone sales were up 37.5% year over year. The new iPhone 13 should pull in users that skipped last year's upgrade, especially once people get a look at the smoothness of the new screens on the Pro models.\nThe iPhone is the flywheel product for Apple, since strong sales tend to spill over to other products and services. All said, Apple is looking at a profitable stretch of growth and is a good bet for investors.\nMicron Technology: A top provider of essential mobile hardware\nMicron is a leading supplier of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), non-volatile memory (NAND), and NOR flash memory and storage products that are used in consumer PCs, data centers, and by some of the leading smartphone manufacturers. Long-term demand trends in the data center and 5G markets are driving a strong growth phase for the company, with revenue up 29% in fiscal 2021, which ended in September.\nMicron's mobile business unit grew 26% in fiscal 2021 and accounted for slightly more than a quarter of its total revenue. Management is anticipating another strong year of growth, as 5G phones contain significantly more memory capacity than 4G phones.\nMicron has supplied products for iPhones in the past, but a recent teardown of the iPhone 13 revealed that Apple chose to use chips from Micron competitors SK Hynix and Kioxia this time around. This isn't a problem for Micron, though, since the smartphone market is much bigger than Apple, with 5G smartphone sales expected to reach 500 million units this year.\nGiven the growth Micron is seeing across the data center, mobile, automotive, and industrial markets, the stock looks particularly attractive at a forward P/E of just 7.2. Throw in a small quarterly dividend of $0.10 per share (yielding about 0.15% at the current stock price), and investors are looking at one cheap stock to invest in the 5G growth cycle.\nZynga: A fast-growing mobile game producer\nIt's not just hardware suppliers that will benefit from 5G. People who play mobile games will see significant benefits, such as faster downloads, from the technology and Zynga is the company behind several popular mobile games, including FarmVille, Merge Magic!, Empires & Puzzles, and Words With Friends. The stock has delivered a return of 150% over the last five years, and the era of 5G could significantly boost player engagement and growth for this company.\nPlayers using 5G devices will be able to download games with large file sizes much faster while away from their home Wi-Fi network, which could increase player engagement. 5G speeds will also bring major benefits to online multiplayer games, such as Zynga's CSR Racing. Overall, games will look better and play faster.\nManagement estimates that investments in international growth, cross-platform play, launching hyper-casual games, and mobile advertising put the company's long-term addressable market at $240 billion. Yet on the first day of October, investors looked a little bit more upbeat. Just before 8 a.m. EDT, futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) were up 143 points to 33,865. S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) futures moved higher by 16 points to 4,314, and the futures on the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) had picked up 49 points to 14,731.
\n
It's the first day of the month, and that means that China's major electric vehicle manufacturers were out overnight with their latest delivery numbers. Demand for EVs in China has been strong, and shares of popular Chinese automakers gained ground following their respective releases. The question U.S. investors have is whether Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), which reports its delivery numbers quarterly, will prove to have had just as much success when it makes its own announcement.
\n
What China's EV giants said
\n
Chinese EV manufacturer stocks were up across the board. XPeng (NYSE:XPEV) had the largest gain, rising almost 4% in pre-market trading. Nio (NYSE:NIO) also rose nicely with a 3% gain, and Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI) managed to post a 2% rise before the market opened for regular trading.
\n

\n
\n
Predictably, the quality of the numbers matched up well with the respective gains in the stocks. XPeng had a huge month, with deliveries of 10,412 vehicles in September topping the 10,000 milestone and tripling from year-ago levels. The numbers included more than 7,500 P7 sports sedans and more than 2,650 G3 and G3i SUVs. XPeng also got a solid start with its P5 family sedans, which launched mid-month and accounted for 244 vehicle deliveries. For the quarter, 25,666 deliveries was a record, also tripling year over year. Year to date, XPeng has delivered more than 56,400 cars and SUVs, more than 300% higher than at the same time in 2020.
\n
Nio's figures also showed considerable growth. With deliveries of 10,628 vehicles in September, Nio just barely topped XPeng's monthly total, with a record showing that was up 125% year over year. Deliveries included nearly 2,000 ES8 six- and seven-seat SUVs, more than 5,250 ES6 five-seat SUVs, and almost 3,400 EC6 coupe SUVs. For the quarter, Nio fell just short of XPeng at 24,439 deliveries, but that was double its year-earlier numbers and topped Nio's own forecast. Nio has delivered a total of more than 142,000 vehicles during its existence.
\n
Finally, Li Auto had promising numbers compared to last year's results, but the company noted some pressures that weighed on its sequential performance. Monthly deliveries of 7,094 vehicles were more than double what Li delivered in September 2020. That brought third-quarter deliveries to 25,116, up 190% from a year ago and finishing right between XPeng and Nio. Year-to-date deliveries came in at 55,720, and Li has delivered almost 89,000 vehicles over its history. Yet co-founder Yanan Shen pointed out that deliveries were down from August's figures due to an extended shortage of semiconductor chips. The company is trying to meet demand, but that hasn't yet shown up in shorter waiting times for buyers.
\n
What will Tesla say?
\n
Tesla often waits a day beyond the beginning of the quarter to post its latest delivery numbers, although the fact that Oct. 2 is a Saturday might change that timeline. Most of those watching Tesla, though, are optimistic about its prospects for delivery growth even as they worry about impacts of supply constraints.
\n
Tesla delivered 185,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2021 and more than 201,000 in the second quarter. Continued growth at that pace would imply roughly 217,000 to 218,000 vehicle deliveries in the third quarter. Some Tesla analysts have even higher expectations, with the typical forecast around 233,000. That would potentially include somewhere around 66,000 to 67,000 vehicles in China, keeping Tesla ahead of its three Chinese rivals in the EV space.
\n
At that pace, Tesla is well ahead of its forecast for 50% growth in 2021 to roughly 750,000 vehicles. If Tesla can keep motoring ahead even with supply constraints, it speaks volumes about just how strong the EV market is and how long the growth curve for Tesla, Nio, XPeng, and Li Auto could be.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MWW":0.9,"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2259,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":866148038,"gmtCreate":1632750261024,"gmtModify":1632798121886,"author":{"id":"3581569662385705","authorId":"3581569662385705","name":"Tiffany81","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581569662385705","authorIdStr":"3581569662385705"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please","listText":"Like please","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/866148038","repostId":"2170623306","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2170623306","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1632747457,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2170623306?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-27 20:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Boeing boosts durable-goods orders, but shortages still a drag on U.S. economy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2170623306","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Business investment still strong in a good sign for the U.S. economic recovery\nGeneral Motors Chevy ","content":"
Business investment still strong in a good sign for the U.S. economic recovery
\n
General Motors Chevy Camaros sit on a lot at the GM Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan.
