Day Trading IBIT Call Options: Profiting from Selling Calls
In options trading, timing and price movement play a crucial role in generating profits. Recently, I executed a series of IBIT call option trades, successfully capturing premium fluctuations and locking in profits. This article will break down the trades, the strategy used, and the final profit calculation
.
Trading IBIT Calls: My Sell-and-Buy Strategy
On February 21, 2025, I executed multiple sell call and buy call transactions on IBIT options. The goal was to capitalize on price differences between selling and buying back at a lower price. Here’s how I structured the trades:
IBIT 77 Strike Call – Sell High, Hold the Premium
• Sold 1 contract at $1.07
• The price later dropped to $0.80
IBIT 78 Strike Call – Executing a Quick Arbitrage
• Sold 1 contract at $1.00
• Bought 1 contract at $0.95
• Profit per contract: $1.00 - $0.95 = $0.05 ($5 per contract)
IBIT 85 Strike Call – Selling High Again
• Sold 1 contract at $1.27
• Bought 1 contract at $1.23
• Profit per contract: $1.27 - $1.23 = $0.04 ($4 per contract)
Final Profit Calculation
Now that the IBIT call options have dropped to $0.80, let’s calculate the total profits from these trades.
1️⃣ IBIT 77 Call Profit
• Sold at $1.07, now trading at $0.80
• Unrealized gain: $1.07 - $0.80 = $0.27 ($27 per contract)
2️⃣ IBIT 78 Call Profit
• Locked in $5 per contract
3️⃣ IBIT 85 Call Profit
• Locked in $4 per contract
Total Profit: $36
• $27 from IBIT 77 call (unrealized gain if closed now)
• $5 from IBIT 78 call (realized)
• $4 from IBIT 85 call (realized)
Why Selling Calls Was a Winning Move
1️⃣ Collected Premium Upfront – Selling calls generates immediate income, reducing the cost basis of future trades.
2️⃣ Buying Back at a Lower Price – By closing the calls at a discount, I locked in profits and avoided potential risk if IBIT rebounded.
3️⃣ Capitalized on Time Decay – As options approach expiration, their value declines, allowing me to buy them back at a lower price.
Final Thoughts
This IBIT call-selling strategy demonstrates how traders can profit from short-term price movements. By selling calls at a premium and buying them back lower, I captured quick gains while minimizing downside risk.
