Shorting itself is not inherently wrong. HOWEVER, spreading misinformation and writing fake news to short a stock SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.

For example, Chinese stocks are easy targets. EHANG for example.. was said to be a fake company. It dropped from 120 to below 30 since then. It strips the option of companies to sell and raise funds for their growth.
