tax-and-spend program, leaving Democrats with few options for reviving the economic agenda.</p>\n<p>Goldman said in a research note Sunday that the likely failure of the Build Back Better legislation had prompted it to lower its real gross domestic product forecasts in 2022 to:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>2% in the first quarter from 3% previously</li>\n <li>3% in the second quarter versus. 3.5% before; and</li>\n <li>2.75% in the third quarter from 3% prior</li>\n</ul>\n<p>“We recently put the probability of a modified version of the BBB legislation passing at slightly better than even but, in light of Manchin’s comments, the odds have clearly declined and we will remove the assumption from our forecast,” Goldman economists led by Jan Hatzius said.</p>\n<p>Manchin’s announcement caught the White House off guard, following weeks of negotiations between President Joe Biden and the West Virginia Democrat and just a day after the Senate adjourned for the holidays.</p>\n<p>The administration now must determine whether it can salvage some of the tax-and-spending bill to address Manchin’s demands while maintaining the support of the rest of the Democratic caucus.</p>\n<p>Goldman said its forecast for headline CPI to reach as high as 7% in the next few months before easing means the inflation concerns Manchin and others had expressed are likely to persist, making passage more difficult. Mahaney set a price target on the stock of $1,770, for a potential gain of just over 21%.</p>\n<p>Shopify stock&nbsp;fell&nbsp;3%, at $1,326.88, in recent trading. The&nbsp;S&amp;P 500&nbsp;fell 0.9%.</p>\n<p>Mahaney offers a four-part thesis on his more bullish stance on Shopify.</p>\n<p>For one thing, he notes that the stock was off about 20% from its high for the year. Mahaney observes that the stock’s valuation, as measured by enterprise value as a multiple of forward sales, is back down to pre-Covid levels. And he argues that Shopify is “one of the biggest structural winners” from the Covid crisis, as more sellers shift business to a digital model.</p>\n<p>Mahaney writes that he views Shopify as “one of the highest quality” companies he covers. Through 2023, the company should grow at a compound annual growth rate of 34%, according to the analyst, which he says makes it among the fastest-growing midsize or large internet companies, trailing only&nbsp;Snap&nbsp;(SNAP) and&nbsp;Uber Technologies&nbsp;(UBER), both beneficiaries of easy 2021 comparisons.</p>\n<p>Mahaney also thinks Shopify’s Ebitda margins (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) will expand from 14% in 2019 to 18% this year, with levels above 20% in three of the last four quarters. “The long-term margin profile of Shopify was historically a key investor concern and we believe this year they have proved that this business can generate significant free cash flow,” he writes.</p>\n<p>A third positive for the stock, Mahaney contends, is growth in new and emerging areas. Among other things, he cites the extension of the company’s Shop Pay platform to non-Shopify merchants, the growth of Shopify’s fulfillment network, and the expansion of the company’s point-of-sale software, installment payments, and other value-added services, like shipping and financing.</p>\n<p>Finally, Mahaney writes that a recent RBC survey of consumer holiday shopping behavior finds declining buyer interest in traditional retailers like&nbsp;Amazon.com (AMZN),Walmart&nbsp;(WMT),Target&nbsp;(TGT),Kohl’s&nbsp;(KSS),Macy’s&nbsp;(M), and others. The S&P 500 fell 0.9%.\nMahaney offers a four-part thesis on his more bullish stance on Shopify.\nFor one thing, he notes that the stock was off about 20% from its high for the year. Mahaney observes that the stock’s valuation, as measured by enterprise value as a multiple of forward sales, is back down to pre-Covid levels. And he argues that Shopify is “one of the biggest structural winners” from the Covid crisis, as more sellers shift business to a digital model.\nMahaney writes that he views Shopify as “one of the highest quality” companies he covers. Projections from the American Diabetes Association suggest that the disease will be much more prevalent in the future -- the number of diabetes patients in the U.S. in 2000, approximately 11 million, is expected to nearly double to 20 million in 2025. And in 2050 there could be as many as 29 million Americans living with the disease.</p>\n<p>DexCom and its continuous glucose monitoring systems help people stay on top of their glucose levels, and demand for these products will remain strong for the foreseeable future; there isn't much guessing or speculation involved with the business. And while that safety isn't particularly exciting to speculators, investors who are looking to truly make money from the stock market should unquestionably pick DexCom over Ocugen.</p>\n<p>Similarly, you could buy an ETF like the <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/IYH\">iShares U.S. Healthcare ETF</a></b>, which holds many of the top healthcare stocks you'll find on the markets -- no, Ocugen isn't one. This flow is likely to dampen volatility in some names while exacerbating stock price moves in others.</p><p>How to trade this?</p><p>As Goldman's Vishal Vivek writes, at major expirations, options traders track situations where<b>a large amount of open interest is set to expire.</b>In situations where there is a significant amount of expiring open interest in at-the-money strikes (strike prices at or very near the current stockprice), delta-hedging activity can impact the underlying stock’s trading that day. If market makers or other options traders who delta-hedge their positions are net long ATM options, expiration-related flow could have the effect of dampening stock price movements, causing the stock price to settle near the strike with large open interest. This situation is often referred to as a “pin” and can be an ideal situation fora large investor trying to enter/exit a stock position. Alternatively, if delta-hedgers are net short ATM options (have a “negative gamma” position), their hedging activity could exacerbate stock price moves.</p><p>What that means it expiration-related trades may cause trading activity to aggressively pick up for stocks with a significant amount of ATM open interest.</p><p>So to help traders looking to hop on for daytrading opportunities, here is a table identifying possible focus stocks with large ATM open interest expiring today, which is compared to the average daily volume of the underlying stocks. To wit, daily options volumes are up 70% in April, up from YTD lows of $2.4bn on 30-Mar.In total, across single stocks, $544BN of options are set to expiry today, including $305BN calls.As such, today’s expiry could be important for stocks with large open interest in at-the-money(ATM) options, as market makers delta-hedging their unusually large options portfolios will be active. This flow is likely to dampen volatility in some names while exacerbating stock price moves in others.How to trade this?As Goldman's Vishal Vivek writes, at major expirations, options traders track situations wherea large amount of open interest is set to expire.In situations where there is a significant amount of expiring open interest in at-the-money strikes (strike prices at or very near the current stockprice), delta-hedging activity can impact the underlying stock’s trading that day.
