& Johnson has agreed to a $230 million settlement with New York state that bars the company from promoting opioids and confirmed it has ended distribution of such products within the United States.\nNew York Attorney General Letitia James' office in a statement Saturday said the agreement bans J&J from promoting opioids through any means and prohibits lobbying about such products at the federal, state or local levels.\nJohnson & Johnson has not marketed opioids in the U.S. since 2015 and fully discontinued the business in 2020.\nAs part of the settlement, the company will resolve opioids-related claims and allocate payments over nine years. It could also pay $30 million more in the first year if the state executive chamber signs into law new legislation creating an opioid settlement fund, according to the press release from James’ office.\nThe settlement follows years of lawsuits by states, cities and counties against major pharmaceutical companies over the opioid crisis, which haskilled nearly 500,000 peoplein the U.S. in the last couple decades.\nGovernments have argued that companies over-prescribed the drugs, causing people to become addicted and abuse other illegal forms of opioids, while companies have said they’ve distributed the necessary amount of the product to help people with medical issues.\n“The opioid epidemic has wreaked havoc on countless communities across New York state and the rest of the nation, leaving millions still addicted to dangerous and deadly opioids,” James said in a statement.\n“Johnson & Johnson helped fuel this fire, but today they’re committing to leaving the opioid business — not only in New York, but across the entire country,” she said. “Opioids will no longer be manufactured or sold in the United States by J&J.”\nThe New York opioid lawsuit trial against the rest of the defendants will begin this week, according to the release. Other defendants in the New York suit include Purdue Pharma; Mallinckrodt LLC; Endo Health Solutions; Teva Pharmaceuticals USA; and Allergan Finance LLC.\nIn a statement Saturday, Johnson & Johnson said the settlement “is not an admission of liability or wrongdoing by the company” and is “consistent with the terms of the previously announced $5 billion all-in settlement agreement in principle for the resolution of opioid lawsuits and claims by states, cities, counties and tribal governments.”\nThe company also said it would continue to defend against any lawsuits the final agreement does not resolve.\nJames said the state will focus on funding for opioid prevention, treatment and education efforts in order to “prevent any future devastation.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":424,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":124198194,"gmtCreate":1624751803318,"gmtModify":1631883822609,"author":{"id":"3584603908581166","authorId":"3584603908581166","name":"ivanpoke","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea0ccdcc9f8bcee67f6fb907e482ccbe","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584603908581166","authorIdStr":"3584603908581166"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Give chance boss","listText":"Give chance boss","text":"Give chance boss","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/124198194","repostId":"1164137597","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":776,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":124102416,"gmtCreate":1624751260635,"gmtModify":1631883822623,"author":{"id":"3584603908581166","authorId":"3584603908581166","name":"ivanpoke","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea0ccdcc9f8bcee67f6fb907e482ccbe","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584603908581166","authorIdStr":"3584603908581166"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I put my life savings in s and p","listText":"I put my life savings in s and p","text":"I put my life savings in s and p","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/124102416","repostId":"1167326019","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1167326019","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1624541460,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1167326019?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-24 21:31","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 rises to retake record at the open, wiping out last week’s Fed swoon","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1167326019","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(June 24) The S&P 500 climbed on Thursday, surpassing its record high set a week ago as the market f","content":"
(June 24) The S&P 500 climbed on Thursday, surpassing its record high set a week ago as the market fully recovered losses triggered by the Federal Reserve’s surprise policy pivot.
\n
The broad equity benchmark rose 0.5% to hit an all-time high, retaking its previous record on June 14. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 207 points, or 0.6%. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 0.6% to reach another record.
\n
A broad group of stocks gained to push the benchmarks to new highs. Tesla added more than 2%, while GM and Caterpillar each gained about 1%.
\n
Data out Thursday showed jobless claimstotaled 411,000for the week ended June 19, higher than an estimate of 380,000 from economists polled by Dow Jones.
\n
Traders are also monitoringinfrastructure package negotiations.A bipartisan group of Senators that have made progress on a plan will meet President Joe Biden at the White House Thursday. Passengers flying on Singapore Airlines (SIA) or low-cost carrier Scoot from Friday (June 25) will be able to offset their share of the flight's carbon emissions by contributing to environmental projects in Indonesia, India, and Nepal.\nThey will be able to do so by buying carbon offsets from dedicated microsites before or after a flight.\nThis is part of a voluntary programme launched by SIA Group on Friday, which will enable customers across the group's passenger and cargo airlines to offset their carbon emissions.\nThe microsite for SIA Cargo customers will be available from next month, and corporate customers will be able to participate in the programme from the fourth quarter of this year.\nSIA and Scoot will match the offsets that their passengers buy for six months after the programme's launch.\nFrom the fourth quarter of this year, passengers will also be able to use their KrisFlyer miles and HighFlyer points to buy carbon offsets.\nSIA's senior vice-president for corporate planning, Ms Lee Wen Fen, said: \"Our customers now have an opportunity to offset their emissions through accredited projects that provide clear benefits to people and the planet. Matching their offsets is our way of encouraging our customers to fly carbon neutral.\"\nThe carbon offset programme is part of SIA Group's commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.\nIt has partnered with Australian carbon offset provider, Tasman Environmental Markets, to enable passengers to instantly calculate and offset their share of carbon emissions.\nFor instance, a passenger on a return trip between Singapore and Hong Kong will pay $5.40 to offset 415kg of CO2 emitted from his journey.\nThe offsets purchased will go towards projects that reduce future emissions.\nSIA Group said it selected high-quality carbon offset projects that have a \"proven and measurable impact\". They include a rainforest preservation project in Central Kalimantan in Indonesia, solar power projects in India, and projects that distribute efficient, clean-burning stoves to rural homes in Nepal.\nThese projects are verified at the highest international standards as well as by independent third parties. The projects are issued with carbon offsets, each with a unique serial number, equivalent to the amount of emissions they reduce.\nOnce SIA Group purchases carbon offsets from a project, they are then retired, ensuring the offset cannot be traded again.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":448,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":125518012,"gmtCreate":1624679946436,"gmtModify":1631883822694,"author":{"id":"3584603908581166","authorId":"3584603908581166","name":"ivanpoke","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea0ccdcc9f8bcee67f6fb907e482ccbe","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584603908581166","authorIdStr":"3584603908581166"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Let's go","listText":"Let's go","text":"Let's go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/125518012","repostId":"1198693501","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198693501","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624663008,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1198693501?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-26 07:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"SpaceX aims to launch first orbital Starship flight in July, company president says","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198693501","media":"CNBC","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nElon Musk’s SpaceX is “shooting for July” to launch the first orbital spaceflight of its","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nElon Musk’s SpaceX is “shooting for July” to launch the first orbital spaceflight of its Starship rocket, company president Gwynne Shotwell said on Friday.\n“I’m hoping we make it, but we ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The company in May revealed its plan for the flight, which would launch from the company’s facility in Texas and aim to splash down off the coast of Hawaii.\nStarship prototypes stand at about 160 feet tall, or around the size of a 16-story building, and are built of stainless steel – representing the early version of the rocket that Musk unveiled in 2019. The rocket initially launches on a “Super Heavy” booster, which makes up the bottom half of the rocket and stands about 230 feet tall. Together, Starship and Super Heavy will be nearly 400 feet tall when stacked for the launch.\nThe company is developing Starship to launch cargo and people on missions to the moon and Mars.\nWhile SpaceX’s fleet of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets are partially reusable, Musk’s goal is to make Starship fully reusable — envisioning a rocket that is more akin to a commercial airplane, with short turnaround times between flights where the only major cost is fuel.\n“I don’t think that people really have even comprehended what that system is going to do,” Shotwell said.\nShe emphasized that Musk “feels in a huge hurry” to develop Starship and create “a sustaining capability that will take people to the Moon and Mars.”\n“That means it’s not one ship every two years, right? We have to be able to fly dozens of ships during the timeframe when you can get people to Mars,” Shotwell added.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":504,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":false}
