A former CCTV veteran who helped launch China’s Spanish global channel has pivoted to shaping the future of wealth management.

A former CCTV executive, who played key roles in launching the broadcaster's Spanish-language channels, has transformed his career into international wealth management, offering unique perspectives on China’s economic evolution and global outreach.

With a career spanning 11 years at China Central Television (CCTV).Victor Ai, the media veteran was deeply involved in China's international communication efforts during what he describes as "a golden decade for Chinese soft power."

Fluent in multiple languages and experienced in producing content that reached global audiences, he later moved into hosting high-profile events including the Beijing New Year Countdown.

DL Holdings Group currently has assets under management and investment of over US$ 3.5 billion, subsidiary DL Family Office contributes over US$2 billion.

From China to global

His career took a dramatic turn in 2016 when he left CCTV and joined DL Holdings (DL) - a Hong Kong-based wealth management and investment group - shortly after its establishment. Founded in 2010 as multi family office.DL initially focused on providing wealth structuring and family office services to high-net-worth mainland Chinese clients.

"When China's economy was still in a phase of high-speed growth, concepts like wealth preservation and succession planning were often overlooked," he explained. "But as the economic structure began shifting around 2015 to 2016, more entrepreneurs started looking seriously at sustainable asset management."

DL Holdings has since grown into a diversified global group with a presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo, and the United States. Its business now spans discretionary portfolio management, real estate investment, and FinTech-enabled community services, catering primarily to ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

ONE Carmel

One of the group's most ambitious projects is a high-end residential development located in Northern California's Monterey Bay area - a region known for its natural beauty and affluent communities. The project, called ONE Carmel, involves the sale of 66 individual land plots, each offering full ownership rights, with architectural oversight provided by a team of designers following strict local building codes.

"Were implementing drone patrols, automated security systems, and water-saving technologies that can save homeowners up to $20,000 annually," he shared. "It's about redefining luxury living through technology and sustainability," Ai told AsianInvestor Wealth.

In July, DL Holdings appointed Ai as CEO of DL Holdings (USA), who has served as DL Holdings' chief marketing officer since 2020 and executive director since 2022.

"We're not just managing wealth - we're building ecosystems where clients can invest, connect, and grow together internationally," he said. "That's the future of family office services," he said.

Technology powering financial inclusion

DL Holdings went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2020 and was later admitted to the Stock Connect program in September 2024 - a move that significantly boosted its market visibility and liquidity.

Reflecting on Hong Kong's role, he emphasized its continued importance as a gateway connecting China with international markets - especially in wealth management. "Hong Kong remains irreplaceable. It offers the legal framework, talent pool, and global connectivity that the industry relies on."

When asked about client trends, he noted a clear shift: "Earlier generations made their wealth in manufacturing and exports. Now, we're seeing more clients from tech, finance, and even virtual asset sectors. Their needs are more globalized and digitally native."

With offices across Asia, the firm continues to expand its service lines, recently launching a members-only club in California aimed at building a community among top-tier investors.
